Well our first visit to BDC and I will start out with we will be back. A solid breakfast meal for us both. The wifey really enjoyed her Today's Special. As for me the Spicy Sausage Omelette was really really good. The sausage had a bite of heat but nothing crazy. Not sure what they used but don't stop - it was that good. We both also had Sweet Teas. We were warned from the start - they are dark and REAL sweet. Which for me was perfect. As for the service: there was one lady (dam forgot her name) taking care of all the guest and she did great. When I say taking care of - I mean everything. Bussing tables, sitting folks, taking orders, and cashing out. Again she was wonderful! The place is neat just like many have said before me. Old 80's type stuff on the walls and tables. Now let me address something that some past Yelpers clearly have an issue with. There are small indications of the owners political views within the location. Nothing crazy at all and unless you really look for it you won't notice. Some past yelpers I who clearly don't agree used this to bust down their Yelp review. That's ridiculous. If the owner wants to voice their opinion- they have every right. It's their place - with their money on the line and their time vested. They clearly treated every guest wonderfully and that's all you should really focused on. So looking for a very good meal (breakfast) at a nice little joint - go on in and enjoy. I'm sure we will be back and might even shoot for the lunch menu next time. read more

A true blast from the 80's past!!! The nostalgia is off the charts. I didn't take any inside pics out of respect for other diners. But there are numerous 80's themed posters on the wall. Our breakfast was incredible. I had the Portuguese sausage omelette which was absolutely amazing. My wife had their pancake offering which was huge and very tasty according to her. Great food and wonderful service. Really kind people. This is a great place to find a no frills, no fancy bs breakfast or lunch. I have dined with them a dozen or more times in the past year. They are always busy and have always been great to everyone in the restaurant. They understand service and good food, at a reasonable price. If you're looking for good traditional southern breakfast come here. Small and quaint interior with fun retro decor. Food seemed like old school high cholesterol love like grandma used to make. Quaint little cafe in downtown Suffolk. Been wanting to try this place for awhile. 80s theme / memorabilia and a simple straight forward menu. Prices are reasonable and portions are decent. I did feel the biscuit and gravy was a bit on the high side for two smaller biscuits but they tasted really good. I paid $15 for the biscuit & gravy platter with shredded hash browns, a side English muffin and an orange juice. Above and beyond nice people! Everybody says hello and asks how you are doing. I ordered some eggs and bacon with coffee. My mom ordered the Ferris wheel with hash browns and added onions. I'm on a low carb kick so no toast for me. The breakfast was delicious and the music was nicely playing in the background. read more

I was looking for a place to eat and relied on the listed hours, only to arrive and find a note stating the restaurant was closed despite the maps still showing it as open. On top of that, there was a sign making an unnecessary political statement, which only added to the disappointment. It's unfortunate that the owners felt the need to bring politics into the dining experience, as it creates an unwelcoming atmosphere. Overall, I'm giving 1 star due to the inaccurate business hours and the off-putting environment. On top of that, I do not get to freely express myself giving the review, that the owners or whomever feel the need to message me on the side to comment on my review right after it was posted. The food is good. The biscuits and gravy was fantastic. I'm a big fan of pancakes, but this one did not satisfy at all - it was thick and heavy, I prefer light and fluffy. Others in my party liked it. Everything else was really good. Loved the laid back, small town, "when you're here, you're family" atmosphere. That took us from 4 to 5 stars. read more

Food was nothing special, especially for the price. The ambiance and atmosphere definitely did not leave me feeling comfortable.

Food is delicious and the staff is very nice. It's not a restaurant with a lot of seating so choose the time of day you go very wisely lol. If you go there, you will see that they are very politically vocal. Which isn't a bad thing it's just not everybody's cup of tea. I was in Suffolk visiting my sister and we had lunch here Saturday. Fantastic place!! I highly recommend!!! This is a small mom and pop restaurant on Main Street in Suffolk. It's decorated with a variety of quaint fun photos and concert tickets. We were greeted when we came in and asked about drinks. We both ordered coffee and I had water with lemon. The coffee was fresh, hot and they refilled your cup often. I couldn't ask for better. My sister had the cheesesteak sub and left nothing on her plate . She loved it! I had the chicken omelette and asked them to add jalapeños. Delicious! They asked me if I wanted onions in my hash browns and I said "yes". Very good. Amazing food with large portions. Really is under priced for the quality in the amount you're getting. Service was outstanding. The atmosphere is just so nice. The other patrons definitely old-timer locals that are known nonsense group who enjoy good things comfort stuff in their lives. We definitely found a gem. Edited to add: as far as politics goes, why not try having a conversation with them? They used to work in the government etc and they know a thing or two. Very nice people. Don't let the media tell you who to like before meeting them. My sons and I came in for the first time Wednesday and we will be back any chance we get. I fell in love with this diner. There is a familial feel to this restaurant. The food was great.... I tried some Monster burger that was completely out side of my comfort zone, I crushed it!!!!! There is some sort of sausage with a weird name... cheese blankets..... hamburger seasoned to perfection..... rolls that are soft and chewy but strong enough to hold and sweet enough to enhance..... and IT DID NOT BREAK THE BUDGET!!!!!! And if that was not enough, after eating an amazing meal.... The chef came out and we sang together while he played the acoustic guitar..... we sang Tennessee Whiskey..... the service is amazing to match the food!!!!! Perfect name! We definitely had a brighter day once we left. The owners are very welcoming, friendly, attentive, and "southern" (which, if you don't know, is a good thing). I've been here twice, and each time, I had excellent food and service. It's like eating home cooked food without cooking and cleaning up. I've had the chicken omelet, steak omelet, pancakes, corned beef hash, scrambled eggs and hash browns. Let me give a separate compliment to the toast. I could have eaten that alone and been happy! The portions are not only huge but also GREAT! It is run like a well-oiled machine. I love the funny decor and amusing sayings on the wall. This feedback may be slightly different due to the COVID-19 situation so keep that in mind. This was my first time coming to this cafe. It's pretty eclectic in the inside with a bunch of retro posters on the walls. I really like the Michael Jackson wall sticker. So the atmosphere was nice. There was a large family in the cafe though and I don't really feel like the social distancing rules were enforced. Me and my friend made sure we had our masks on but nobody else did. One thing that I noticed and wasn't sure how to feel about this was that when I asked for sweet tea, I was told there was nothing left. However, when the large family asked for sweet tea after me, the owner's wife made sure they got some. Even though the owner tried to get me some after he visited our table and thanked us for being patient, she insisted there was nothing left. Not sure how I felt about that and it did feel weird but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. The owner was extremely nice to me and my friend and he really didn't have to thank us for being patient. We were more than happy to enjoy waiting to ensure the large family was taken care of, and I do think they may have been friends of the owners visiting from out of state, so I hope that they did enjoy their time. The linguica omelet had Portuguese sausage in it and wow did that remind me of home. I don't know what brand they used but it was pretty decent. Not what I'm used to but still good. Other than that one incident that left me feeling a little strange, I would be interested to try some other items on the menu. read more

Wonderful place downtown to have breakfast!! The owners were so kind to us and even personally waited on us. It was great service! The inside is an 80's vibe which my husband and I loved since we grew up in the 80's. It was clean and the food was delicious! I came for breakfast with my best friend and we both really enjoyed this place! It must be relatively new; neither of us knew it was here until randomly finding it on Yelp and we're happy we did! Brighter Day is a small, family owned place. The interior has an old school vibe. There were a lot of '80s movie posters and a Ms. PAC-man arcade machine. Each table had a set of trivia cards if you wanted something to do to pass the time while you waited. Service was great! The woman who waited on us was very friendly and readily answered any questions we had. I had a coffee and she was back to refill it as my cup was getting low without me having to ask, which I appreciated. The food was really good! We both had omelets and they were a very generous size and at a reasonable price. And breakfast is served all day! We had a great experience and are looking forward to coming back in the future to try their lunch menu! Originally planned on using a gift certificate at The Plaid Turnip but they are closed for renovations. Walked across the street the Brighter Day Cafe. I have been wanting to stop in but I always forget it's here! We were seated right away and greeted by our waitress (I think she's the owner...). The decor is DIY and kitschy- I like it! My favorite is the pac man arcade game. We ordered omelettes- after a bit of a wait (not a big deal, we weren't in a hurry) our meal came out. The food was excellent. Omelette was seasoned great and the hash browns were crispy and delicious. I was skeptical at first bc I had my heart set on the plaid turnip, but I will definitely be back.
