My friend and I were shopping around the area and decided to drop by for brunch. We went in and were told to get any table we wanted. We sat there and waited for about 15 minutes and we still weren't given any menu. So, we finally requested for the menu and it took forever to come. We had to ask the same waiter for it twice. Water also took forever to come. When we were finally ready to order, we ordered oysters and a main course. He said that they were out of those. Seriously? You could have told us earlier. He went away and we were so annoyed and disappointed with the service that we just left the place. Never ever coming back again. read more

This place was GREAT. Not only did I get a killer burger but when I told this chick to go fetch my bill she did. The waitress was much hotter than my wife so I left a decent tip which I asked to stuff into her bra. She said she couldn't at work but I know she wanted it. read more

This is my favorite met bar! I love their sweet potato fries and there kale salad. I usually sit at the bar downstairs which is first come first serve, and has a nice vibe. read more

Came to Met back bay for lunch on Tuesday, and loved everything. I had the Boston style burger that had smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg, burger was cooked perfectly at a medium rare temperature. My Bloody Mary was outstanding; the right amount of spice and seasoning. Service was impeccable. The manager Patrick came over, introduced himself and told us about the METs new dessert menu. Unfortunately we had no room left. But will be back for the homemade blueberry pie he suggested. Great experience from start to finish. If there were 6 stars available - I would give it! read more

EXTREMELY RUDE and inattentive. None of the staff seemed to communicate with one another. Said there were no tables available, that the open seats were reserved for people dining upstairs who were moving down, and then the bartender allowed a group of walk-ins to just sit wherever. Around awful. read more

Brian is an incredible cocktail mixologist! We came in hoping for a good drinks and were blown away but his creativity and attentiveness! He is the master at mixing good drinks, music, and conversation. Highly recommend checking this place out especially on a Saturday night - ask him to make you something with meddled berries and champagne you will not be disappointed! read more

Food was good but service was only OK. I had a reservation for a party of 8 which was for 9pm on Friday. I made the reservation about 5 days in advance and had wanted to come around 8pm but I understand it wasn't available for a group our size. So when we all arrived at Met Back Bay, they couldn't find our reservation - turns out the hostess booked it for Saturday and not Friday. So they scramble to try and seat us which took about 20 minutes, during which we just stood there in the lobby. I understand that mistakes happen so none of us were too upset - we were just hungry because it was getting late. You would think after something like that the service would be great.. oh no, our waiter was slow and treated us rudely. We were all just a little taken back by his attitude. Maybe it was just a fluke, I'd try Met one more time, but if it was the same service I'd think again about returning. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants! I love having a choice of where I want to sit and there's always a space for me to grab something to eat! The last time I went there I sat on the patio for the first time. What an amazing setup! I had to wait for a friend, so I grabbed a drink at the bar (the blood orange cosmo is amazing!!). The bartender was great, really friendly, and attentive, I almost didn't want to sit outside. The minute my friend arrived the hostess was ready to have us seated. The service was great and so was the food. I had the Paris burger which came out perfectly done and was a great choice. My friend ordered the chop salad which I am usually not a fan of, but found it quite good. Upon leaving the hostesses were warm and friendly as I talked to them about how often I come there but had never sat outside before. Overall I loved every minute and would suggest it to any of my friends!! read more

First visit to this location. Our server was great, did everything well so that's not the issue. Ordered Shrimp Cocktails for starters which were large but surprisingly bland. They didn't have that flavor you expect at that size. The cocktail sauce wasn't all that good either lacking the zest from horseradish that seemed to be there but wasn't. Ordered two steaks, a strip and a filet and they were okay nothing special at all. They came with "house fries" which were greasy and so-so. My issue is that price wise at $150 for two with three drinks the value for the quality of the food just wasn't worth it. In retrospect a visit to a high end steak house for similar prices would have had better steaks, shrimp and more atmosphere. Also, the servers of the food, (not our waitress) need to at least look like they are happy to serve your food. Everyone looked cranky. What's the big deal about this place? And no bread with a meal? Come on man. read more

Had a horrible experience at Met Back Bay in Boston this afternoon. I ordered the chicken cutlet from the kids menu for my 11 month old daughter and the chicken served was rancid. We sent it back and our server said she would take it off the bill. However she offered no apology, no gratuitous visit from the manager, no offer to bring us an alternative. . .it seems the restaurant has no problem serving spoiled food to an infant. We also found the place extremely unfriendly to families with young children. . .We were seated outside in the direct sunlight with no umbrella when there were plenty of empty tables with umbrellas. It was 4pm so not really that crowded. We asked to move to the shadier table and were obliged but had to promise to finish our meal by 5pm in case "other" larger parties needed the table. Meeting the 5 pm deadline wasn't a problem since my daughter's food was inedible. It wouldn't have been so bad if the staff were friendlier, apologetic, and sincere. read more

I have been to this restaurant 3 times....first time was great, second and third time the service was the worst ever!!!! The second time are food took forever to come....we discussed this with the manager and he comped 1 meal, yes 1 meal...there were 6 of us. Two days ago, my daugther and I had to make a quick trip to Boston and decided to give the Met one more chance because the food is good. Once again, everyone around us (people who also came after us) got their food first!!! The waitress apologized at least three times! Finally we complained and she asked if we wanted to speak to the manager. Of course, we said yes. All we got was a blank look from him and a few "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. This reaction was quite absurd and not professional at all! He did say do you still want to eat lunch (our food had just been delivered prior to him coming over to us). We should have said no! He offered us a gift card and we refused, being that we are not from the area and after this service we will never go back. He did say he would do something for us. My appetite at this point had disappeared and I nibbled at my meal, which was not very good anyways. The waitress didn't even come over to us after this and another waitress cleared our plates. When we asked for our bill, that was when our waitress reappeared! Did she think she was getting a tip?????? Not after this terrible service. She didn't even have the guts to stick up for their poor service. Too bad, as my family and I love to eat at great restaurants and we will definitely spread the word about the poor service this restaurant has given us. Maybe if the manager had been more sympathetic and not been so obnoxious with his attitude, we may have understood. This restaurant is not 3X and your our out, it is 2x and you our out! read more

I've been to the Met Back Bay at least 4 times since last August. Food was always consistent, high quality--until tonight. I love The Met's lobster roll and have had it during both lunch and dinner. It always came on a 12-inch roll with overflowing chunks of fresh lobster meat, which made it worth $28 in my opinion. I didn't see the lobster roll on the dinner menu tonight so I asked the waitress if the kitchen could make it for me. She confirmed that they could, so I happily ordered it. When the lobster roll came, it was half the size of the regular lobster roll. On top of that, the lobster tasted fishy and not so fresh tonight. When the check came I was billed the full $28. I brought this to the attention of the waitress, letting her know that I had only gotten half a lobster roll. She went away for 5 minutes and came back to inform me that this is The Met's new lobster roll, that although the bread was shorter, but the amount of lobster was the same, so she was still going to charge me $28. I'm sorry, but there was no way that the same amount of lobster would have fitted on this measly 6-inch roll. But at this point I didn't want to argue anymore so we paid and left, but I feel ripped off. read more

I don't usually hand out 1 star reviews but the service here was extremely poor. My girlfriend and I decided to go here for a drink after walking down Newbury Street. It was such a nice day out we asked to be seated in the patio area. Once seated it took a while for our waiter to come to our table. We gave him our drink order and when he asked if we would be dining we explained that we were just here for a couple drinks. He gave us a a rude look and then walked away. After he had brought our drinks we didn't see him again. Not even to ask how the drinks were. I had to flag him down for our check and once he brought us he proceeded to tell us in not the most polite way that the patio area was for full dining only. I explained to him that there were absolutely no signs around that explained that and he should have mentioned that before he brought us the check, which I felt was a very rude way to go about it. Besides the lousy service we received, none of the food looked that appealing anyway. You'd be better off going elsewhere. read more

I really wish I loved the Met. I want to love met.... But alas I just like it. I'll give a run down: arrived for our reservation for 6 and the Hostess was friendly and responsive. Was seated a fabulous booth - all is good. Server arrived while we were still taking our coats off (no coat check in Jan) and asked us for our cocktail order without giving us time to look at menu. He asked if we wanted Cosmo's to start, as if that's all that women in groups drink. Fast forward: food arrived promptly. Wedge salad was not truly a wedge, no blue cheese as they use ranch instead. Salad comes chopped w tomatoes in it, and almost no dressing. C+ for salads. Split Mac and cheese w my friend. They kindly pre-split the order for us, which was nice. I asked a bottle of hot sauce to give the dish some flavor (super bland...think cheese sauce vs. A nice tangy 5 cheese blend). 10 mins later no hot sauce, while the rest of the table ate. Finally my friend spoke up and asked server for sauce again. He came back w Tobasco poured on a small plate...stating they don't like to have bottles on the table. So I'm supposed to dip my Mac into the sauce? Waiter seemed ticked that I asked for bottle or small bowl instead - no resolution. B- for Mac and cheese. I felt like the bus boy was our server. He continuously tried to take our plates and glasses before we were finished...if there is still food on my plate and my fork is still in my hand, chances are I'm still eating. And when a cocktail is $13, I'm probably going to drink all of it. Bottom line: un-seasoned waitstaff that clearly is used to working at Friday's or Appleby's, entire experience was rushed by our server and left us feeling pushed out. Food looked better on menu than in reality....high aspirations with lackluster execution. B- read more

Went to this bar last night for dinner/drinks on Dartmouth Street. Didn't realize it is the old Joe's American Bar and Grill until I got there. Definitely a huge space, I've heard great things about it and I did think the drink menu was fun. For some reason at 7:45pm last night they were not too busy and so they sat 3 of us at a table meant for 9 or 10 people. I thought that was really odd. The waiter in that room (Library Bar?) was really good at suggesting entrees and drinks and apps. We had the octopus salad which was really good, but tiny. And we had the quinoa stuff, however you spell it, and that was so so. I thought it needed a cracker with it or something. I got the tuna steak which was recommended and delicious. However, I did get ill this morning so that was either the rare tuna or the plentiful drinks I consumed! One drink I had there, the hot toddy, was great; I have a cold and so I wanted something to kick that. My friends got the fountain of youth martini and said those were really good. All in all I'd say this was a decent spot, definitely happening bar, prices probably in-line with that area ($28 for a tuna steak). I wouldn't race to go back although I've heard they do a great brunch so maybe worth checking out. read more

So I've never written a review before but it's been bothering me all day. I've never been to Met before but my friend invited me for brunch today and I was excited to try it. It was pouring rain all day and when we arrived we saw people leaving from a door in the front of the restaurant so we went to what we thought was the front door. It was locked but a guy inside came to open it for us. A server quickly pushed him aside and mouthed through the window that it was "only an exit" ... Pouring down rain, she refused to let us in the door, that had just been open moments before. So, we walked to the side of the restaurant and chatted about how rude that server was to not let us in. Well as luck would have it, our friend we were meeting was seated in door patrol's section. She was a 28-35 year old European woman with a thick accent and she was very abrasive. We ordered the Nutella stuffed French toast for the table right after she brought us waters and greeted us and she was in such a hurry she walked away before we could even finish our order.. We wanted the avocado toast as well but she literally walked away from us while I was mid sentence. I totally understand brunch is busy, and you've got coffees to be making and mimosas to be refilling, but if you're truly that busy maybe ask for help or suggest to management that there needs to be another server on the floor.... She was only present when we were getting food and was always in a big hurry to get away from our table when she was there. She just was really rude and we all felt the same way. The food was amazing. We each got a different type of burger (mine, the turkey LA style was a bit over cooked and extremely charred on one half but it was still delish, and the appetizers were awesome. I'm just very disappointed with the service. From the moment I was near Met Bar Cafe, she made my experience a negative one. If I went back and had her again, I'd have to ask for another server. I'll also note that the "exit only" door didn't have any stickers or signs stating that outside. read more

I frequent the Met Bar often because of its delicious entrees and friendly waitstaff. Because it is a place that my mother and I love to go together, I chose it to be the location to have her birthday dinner this evening. When I called to make reservations a few days ago, I inquired about whether or not they do birthday desserts. The hostess said that they did and made a note to bring out a birthday slice of cake with a candle in it. Tonight, I was surprised to see that I was charged ($10) for a slice of chocolate cake. At every other fine dining restaurant that I have been to for a birthday (Abe and Louie's, Back Bay Social Club, Stephanie's etc.) the dessert is always included. After ordering a lobster dinner, several sides, a bottle of wine, and espresso, I thought that the cake would have been taken care of. I am disappointed because I love the waitstaff and menu, but I did not find this to be a professional way to handle a birthday, especially for regular customers. Next time, I will choose to go elsewhere. read more

I just had a surprisingly bad experience at Met Back Bay - my sandwich was horribly made and missing ingredients and our waiter did not appear to like me. I went for lunch and sat downstairs. We ordered our food and drink (no special requests), all was fine. I ordered their Club (with avocado, brie, & arugula). I ate the 1st half, which had a very small piece of chicken, but the bacon and avocado were there. Tasted fine. When I went to eat the 2nd half, realized all the bacon and avocado were on the 1st half. All it had was chicken and arugula (no condiments). Not caring that much, I just asked for a side of mayo The table next to me gets a side of mayo delivered. A minute later I hear a *thunk* and a squeeze bottle of mayo has been placed on the table with a lot of force. When I give a startled jump, the waiter snaps "you asked for mayo, right?". Somehow I completely offended him by asking for mayo. He then completely abandons our table. Someone else clears our plates and we have to wait before he finally comes with the check. He walks by us as we leave and doesn't even say goodbye. When I get back to the office and realize there was no brie on my sandwich... read more

Worst experience ever. First, we were are a party of 7, and although there were multiple open tables they said we would have wait, unless if they separated us and put us at two different tables. I found this bizarre since the tables were right next to each other, they could have easily conjoined them, especially since the entire section we sat in was open (3 large tables that sat 4, and 3 tables that sat 2). But we weren't that bothered by it so we overlooked it. The hostess did not inform the wait staff that although we were not sitting together, that we technically were all together, so each table had a separate waiter. The waitress that served my table was not personable at all, and I felt from the second she approached the table that we were bothering her by being patrons at the restaurant. The only thing that she said was "hi". And that was it, she did not introduce herself or let us know that she would be our server, the three of us were a bit confused because to be honest I wasn't even sure at this point if she was our waitress or someone who was just going to get us our water. She then continued to ask "if we knew what we wanted?" Then almost interrupted herself with the question of "are you even eating?" directed to the third guest because there was no menu in front of her. Mind you the hostess only gave us two menus. Again, something we didn't mind, but the directness and tone of her question completely shocked us. Continuing on we gave her our beverage and food order all at once. After she left to get our beverages, a different waiter approached the second table, already with waters (with straws) for them before he made his introduction and took their orders. Many minutes after that, she brought our waters, with no straws, and coffee to us. I assumed she left to bring us back straws but never returned. So about 10 minutes later we asked the hostess if we could get some straws for the waters. The waitress came over about 5 minutes after that with a cup of straws. At this point, I was trying to stay open minded and just thought that maybe waitress was having a bad day or something. We received our food after we watched a different serve go to 3 different tables to drop it off. Clearly he was not given proper instruction of which tables food it was. The food was good at best, but the experience was ruined. We all just wanted to eat and get out of there. The turning point for me, and the reason why I am even bothering to write this review was when I saw the inside of the glass that had the straws in it. It was absolutely filthy. Unlike anything I have ever seen before. It literally looked like it was taken from the container that held the dirty dishes. The inside looked like it was coated in a red liquid with drops on the inside. Horrified we showed our friends at the other table, and they told us that one of their glasses was served to them with lipstick on it. The waitress never checked in on us after she brought the food. And finally when she did return we just asked for the check. After we had already paid the bill she sent the manager over to check on us because clearly at this point she could tell that we weren't happy. The manager's reaction when we explained why we were not happy was the most detached response ever. You could tell she did not care, and no she was not rude at all, but I don't know if she even listened to us, she just stood there and nodded her head, basically just yessing us until we finished. Then continued to say that she wished this was brought to her attention earlier because since we already paid there is really nothing she could have done. If we hadn't paid, she would have taken the drinks off our bill, which were two coffees and an orange juice. We weren't looking for anything when we went there, besides an enjoyable meal. But the service was more than disappointing and the strange sense of the people working there was very uncomfortable. The worst part was from where were sitting on the outside patio, the restaurant was not busy at all, it would be nice to at least have that as an excuse for the poor service we received. read more

This past Saturday, we stopped here for lunch, and my cousin who was visiting from Switzerland with a friend, wanted to sit outside. Seeing that there were 2 EMPTY tables, side by side, with 2 chairs on one side and a bench/booth on the other that wrapped around (it was on their outside corner) and it was 4 of us, we asked if we could be seated there. The 'bouncer' (aka host) told us that we couldn't because he could not pull the tables together. Mind you, these are individual tables for 2 people, and they were about 5" apart from each other. We were not even asking to have the tables 'joined', but only to sit there, as a group of 4. He said "NO, I CANNOT JOIN THE TABLES. YOU NEED TO GO INSIDE". So we went inside, but the music was so loud that we walked out again. But before coming back to the entrance, we checked the tables again and sure, they were still empty and ready to take 4 people. So, again, I asked if we could just sit there, without pulling the tables together. He was talking to 2 other employees and barely looked at us. Was extremely rude and said again "MA'AM, I ALREADY TOLD YOU, WE CANNOT PUT THOSE TABLES TOGETHER!" (yes! he was yelling!!!) ~so we left, in complete disgust and had lunch down the street and a lovely place, with extremely friendly people. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT. Period! It has nothing to do with the food and all to do with the rude behavior of the people who are supposed to be the face of the business!!!! read more

Since zero stars are not an option I begrudgingly give one. Had an 8:15 reservation - table not ready. When I make a reservation I have an expectation that there is actually a table reserved for me. There were 5 in our party. They finally seat us and we see this beautiful large round table with 5 people sitting at it ordering after dinner drinks - it's clear this was supposed to be our table at 8:15 but Met overscheduled and it was about to become clear how they were gonna screw me. They lead us to a table meant for 3 that they somehow manage to set for 5. She seats us here like it's ok for us to eat our meals on top of each other. All around us there are parties of 2 in large spacious booths and here we are literally sitting on top of each other. We are foodies, we live in the Back Bay we eat out ALLOT this was NOT acceptable. We speak to the front desk woman she ushers us to the bar to wait some more. By then the juju was so bad after a few minutes we just got up and left. I mean really you use my neighborhood in your name and frankly you are just not worthy. Oh and the servers in jeans, yuck! read more
