shockingly terrible.
and I used to like this place.
We arrived and were unable to find someone (anyone!) with whom to check in for our reservation and seat us for almost ten minutes. Even when we asked for help (3 different people), when we were finally seated, the table had been set but NOT cleaned! (it was sticky and there was food on it!)
We ordered a bunch of small plates, including the grilled artichoke, at the suggestion of our curt, somewhat surly, and otherwise impossible-to-locate server. That dish came out first. It is basically inedible. It was room-temperature, previously halved (but not trimmed!) charred-to-a-black crisp, and served with a side of flavor free oil and a side of mayo. it was disgusting and had nearly nothing to eat on it!
Next was the hummus - this is supposed to come with harissa, house-made pita chips. Instead it was about 3 oz of garden-variety hummus, severely lacking in salt and acid, dusted with a tiny bit of dried paprika (which, technically, is harissa, but really??!) with five tiny pita chips already IN the dip (getting squishy). Best thing we were served.
Then we received the grilled cauliflower - supposed some come with herbs and romesco. Not quite. This was about a whole head of barely cut-up cauliflower, boiled lightly, with a flavorless tomato sauce on top. Also served room temp. It wasn't BAD per se, just intensely skill-less and boring. I'll give them points for size - this was HUGE.
We ordered the duo of salmon and tuna carpaccio - also to be served with taro chips. The chips were stale. The "carpaccio"s each were clearly days-old fish (smelled strongly fishy and the consistencies had become that weird soft texture) packed together with mayonnaise. This was so foul that we sent it back.
Sending the fish back was an issue. The reason is that our server NEVER checked on us. For like 15 minutes or more, after we received it. We could not get her attention, her back was to us in a small work-alcove. Finally, a different server approached us, we explained the problem, she took the fish (and the fries, up next) away, did not offer to replace it, and did not apparently communicate the issue to our server (and left it on our bill).
Finally, we got the last dish (and by now, we were VERRY hungry since other than the cauliflower, there was no food, and no service to try to resolve any of this), the famed truffle fries. greasy, limp, and cold. YES, cold. They are kind of coated entirely with cheese, also, giving them a strong, heavy, flavor. What they did NOT taste like was truffle, or even cheap truffle oil (which can be smelled a mile off, I find it so strong). We sent them back to be re-heated, and what we got was a HUGE inedible mass, similar to the first but now the topmost layer were warm (not piping hot) and still somehow didn't seem cooked through. Served with Mayo, no catsup, no truffle-sauce, no nothing.
The bill finally arrived, just dropped on the table with no words.
The server cleared the predominantly uneaten dishes without a word or question. (was it ok? did we want it packed up? no, nothing.)
It takes another 12 minutes (by this point I am actually looking at my watch) to get the server's attention to call to her attention that we were charged for the fish.
3 minutes later she returns with the adjusted tab.
Then doesn't pick up the check for another 20 (yes, TWENTY) minutes. And by this point the restaurant is almost completely empty.
I signed it, I walked out, absolutely annoyed (and embarrassed, and hungry!).
The worst food that I have been served in Boston in years, made worse by just about the worst service possible shy of her actually being rude. read more
