Yesterday me and my wife sent the kids to the beach with my sister and decided to go for a stroll on Newbury Street to grab a bite until we came across what we thought was Joe's but after scrolling thru the extensive Brunch menu we decided to give it a try at The Met Back Bay.
We wanted to sit outside in the patio under a shade but since the place was hoping we were told by the host it was going to be about 20 min wait and we were also offered a table inside without any wait but we decided to wait. After about 17 mins we got our table but not under a shade, it wasn't too hot for about 2 mins in the sun we were getting antsy seeing the 3 top in the corner under a shade next to us empty!(first come first serve ?!!) .
Meanwhile we were promptly greeted by our waiter with 2 glasses of water which were very welcome !! And introduced himself enthusiastically and offered us a couple cups of coffee , I was promptly served and immediately gave Cam our order( my wife loved his hair and complimented asking for his name). My wife got a Breakfast Burrito and I got Hen House Hash. We were in a hurry and hungry and asked our waiter how long would it take to get our food before he walked way to put our order in, and he said it would be about 15-20 mins since The Met makes everything from scratch , we thought it was manageable and decided it was going to be worth the wait.
Cameron kept checking on us and filling my cup of coffee, he also informed us that he had just spoken with his GM about our food taking longer than expected since we were on a rush, he said someone else from the management team was going to come by and speak with us, after about 10 min a manager introduced himself as Dan and apologized us about the wait and that they were going to take care of us. We told Dan that Cameron has told us the GM was already aware and we still haven't seen our food, both of the tables next to us have already gotten their food after getting there after we did and getting seats under the umbrellas we requested in the first place.
Cam kept us entertained saying he was going to stand there next to us with a couple trays over our heads until our food got there, that gave us a few giggles he seems to have been on top of it the whole time and genuinely feeling bad for us.
Forty minutes later and 3 cups of coffee we finally got our food delivered and decided to ask one of the runners what took so long , did anyone lose our ticket in the kitchen as a joke, he said that's exactly what happened!! We giggled again but right after we were angry. The food was delicious , it obviously came out fresh since they have to remake everything from scratch!!
At the end we were only charged for a cup of coffee and still left Cam a good tip for being entertaining and sympathetic 5 star material , but the restaurant experience only gets 1 star for the lack of organization, we never saw the GM when we asked one of the runners and were told he was busy expediting food , maybe he should've been on the floor making sure everyone was happy, instead, all we saw around us were stressed out staff sweaty under the hot sun(add more shades!!). We'll give it another shot in the winter inside for dinner, they have a great menu and friendly wait staff but right now the place its being poorly run! read more
