One of the few places I haven't tried on my first visit to Seattle so I figured why not. We decided to get two shumai, a curry beef puff, and a bbq pork hom bow. The shumai was a little pricey per piece and standard as far as shumai goes so I wouldn't suggest it. They were pretty big pieces though The hom bow was easily the best thing to get here with the small chunks of sweet ish pork within a nice soft bun. The curry beef puff was nice and flaky but wasn't as memorable. read more

Came here by recommendation of my bff on the curry beef hombow. Decided to try the other hombows as yelp stated they're all popular. We decided to get one of each for starters. They were all yummy to me. All were filled proportionately with meat and the pastry was light, fluffy and fresh. Not dense or too much dough like other places. I even decided to come back and get three more to bring on our flight. I would definitely come back again. Also, please note they have more items available for purchase, I think I saw a noodle dish and also bubble teas, possibly even a veggie hombow. There's no seating. Steamed Pork Hom Bow: The best when freshly steamed. Tasty pork. Very soft bun. My personal fave from this place. A little bit overpriced from other Hom Bows, but could be the location. Baked Pork Hom Bow: Also good, bouncier dough. I don't think I got enough pork to bun ratio either. Haha. Just want more of the filling and flavor. But it's still good. Pineapple Bread: Not overly sweet. Really soft and airy bread. Good size for the price. Love it. Overall, would still come back if I'm ever craving dimsum and I'm around the market. read more

Solid 3 1/2 stars! Who don't like some good manapua? Or as the folks at Mee Sum Pastry in Pike Place like to call a HOMBOW? Same thing! I like my Chinese food and snacks are no exception! Walked past on a cloudy Seattle morning looking for tasty lunch bites and caught the smell of baking bread. Ugh! Had to take a stop! Got some take out! -Chicken Hombow -BBQ Pork Hombow -Curry Beef Hombow -Potstickers I asked for the freshest ones they had, and got some warm hombow to go! All were pretty good - but I gotta say they are heavy on the bread & a bit light on the filling. The chicken hombow was a bit bland. The curry beef one was light on the curry spice as well. But the BBQ pork hombow was tasty! On the sweet side just like I like! But again a bit scant on the filling! The pot stickers were pretty good too! Those had quite a bit of pork in them, and I inhaled each with no problem. Pricing for Mee Sum Pastry is high for a bakery like this (cheaper here in Las Vegas), but for Pike Place standards it's very much so on the budget eats. That's probably why there's a bit of a line during the lunch rush. I got MEE SUM! And I liked it. read more

What a great hole in the wall spot! Initially, I was a bit skeptical about eating BBQ pork off a stick and how good it really could be and the potential for over hype because of all the tourism. My skepticism quickly changed as soon as we received our meal. Mee Sum offers delightful stuffed pastries with your favorite fillings. They even had an Indian filling that was AMAZING. I've had bad and buns before but these were super fresh and the pastry was light and fluffy. The BBQ pork had just enough fat as it did meat and the marinade was great as well....tons of flavor. I LOVE MEE SUM pork buns and xiu mai. With this being part of the Pike Market for a while now, Mee Sum serves ready to-go Chinese food at a somewhat reasonable cost. The xiu mai was pretty expensive for just one piece. I ordered 2 for almost $5. I was so skeptical at first because with $5 I could probably get double the amount I ordered elsewhere, but whatever. Their xiu mai was delicious, and me and my friend craved more after trying it. Re-visiting the Pike Market for about 2 years, I wanted to stop by to try their pork baos one more time. I enjoyed it the first time, and still enjoyed it during my recent visit. These were priced reasonably, so that was nice. The woman working may seem like she's in a rush, but that's just how most Chinese places are. It's all about the business and having the flow of things moving. Overall, great ready-to-go Chinese food and quick service. read more

We got this place at Pike Market because it reminded us of a Chinese bakery in the Bay Area where we are from. We ordered the BBQ pork Hom Bow, the curry beef Hom Bow and the matcha sesame ball. Both the hom bow were my favorites!! It was so comforting and flavorful! The curry beef hom bow is very flakey. :) The matcha sesame ball was good for a sesame ball, but it doesn't have much matcha flavor, so that was the only downside. Overall, a good experience, and the pastries tasted so nostalgic and yummy! read more

This is a great place for morning dim sum to go by Pike Place! The food looks great and tastes great. The dim sum can be pretty pricey once you order a lot of everything, but totally worth it! I would have to say the golden pork bun is the best thing there to try! I wasn't a big fan of the siu mai or dumplings. read more

Stopped by this place while walking Pike Place Market for a quick bite. The BBQ pork buns caught my eye! They're huge and the buns looked so soft! There was a long line on a Saturday Morning. Since I was trying a bunch of different restaurants that day in Pike Place, I only ordered a couple of the BBQ pork buns. Totally worth it! It was delicious! Everything we got was very good. Not life changing or anything but everything was fresh and great quality. I got a curry beef hom bow and puff. Both really great. The puff was so flaking and buttery. The hom bow had a tad bit of sweetness because of the topping. I wish I had tried the curry chicken or bbq pork. I got a shrimp and something else dumpling and it was fresh and fat. You do have to stand in line outside but I highly recommend because you know it's good when the Asian ladies who stand in line buy boxes and boxes of them to go. read more

This Chinese Bakery in Pike Place is a must-try if you're in Seattle! They are famous for their hombows but I didn't realize that until later. I ordered the Green Tea Sesame Ball (so good! I love the black sesame flavor but wish there were a stronger green tea flavor) and the BBQ Pork Pastry (also delicious -- the pastry was buttery and flaky and the pork inside was sweet, savory, and flavorful), although it might be worth getting the BBQ Pork Hombow! read more

This is hands down THE BEST BBQ pork bun I have ever had. I never knew it could be so good. I typically never really crave baos like that, usually they are just steamed white buns with ok meat in the middle. But THE ONES HERE ARE AMAZING.I never knew what I was missing out on. The line may seem semi long but they are quick and fast because everything is already made they just pass it out once you order it. The bun was the perfect amount of bread, but sweet and crispy at the same time. It complimented the pork really well. If I'm ever back in Seattle I'm definitely getting another one read more

I walked past by the store on a rainy day and not thinking to get anything but there were couple people standing next to it and eating the bbq pork bun. The steam and scent just knocked on me and I made my move to get bbq pork bun as well... the steamed bun was great, fresh and hot!!! I also bought moo cake and red bean egg yolk pie(Dan Huang su), these are normal and a little overpriced imo. read more

I really love this place since the moment we tried it! The BBQ pork humbao and red bean buns are AMAZING, they're big portions for around $3 depending on what you get. The only problem i had is on one occasion when we ordered about 12-14 humbao, we were heading home and it was a long car trip, one of the workers mumbled something in chinese(?) And i could only make out "Mexican" in there. I am not sure what they said or why they would say that, but it felt uncalled for. Apparently we had bought out all the ones in the case at the time, it was around $50 for 14 buns, and the worker was probably upset or angry about that? Despite this, i would definitely go back and buy more, hell I'll take home another dozen. Whats to stop 2 dozen? These buns are delicious! read more

Size are decent but quality is okay, with the location, they can sell anything and people would still buy their food. There are so many other awesome places to eat, if you want Chinese Dim Sum go to Bellevue or Issaquah. read more

It's located at Pike Place market where can be chaotic with all the tourists like me. I've actually been to Pike Place market before but didn't know about this bakery until I saw the reviews on yelp. There was a short line when we went around lunchtime on a Saturday. The line went very quickly so don't let it deter you. We ordered the baked BBQ Pork Hombow and baked curry beef hombow. We were trying to taste one food item from a variety of pike's place spots and knew we couldn't miss out on these bows! The baked green curry one was delicious. The bread was sweet and fluffy ness and the green curry balanced it out with a perfect blend of spices. Quick service and cute spot in the market. Read all the reviews and got the curry hom bao! The line is quick and short especially for a Sunday morning at Pike Place. Hard to eat in the rain but I saved it for later :D Loved the curry inside with the sweet flaky bun. Definitely wished I got two, but I always crave the taste whenever I think of Seattle! The curry isn't like a coconut curry, and it's bright yellow brown inside. There's meat filling and the bun melts in your mouth. I always stop by near closing time to avoid the long lines near Pike Place because their zong zi is to die for. It is $6 for a fat, stuffed zong zi that is filled with sticky rice, peanuts, meat, and a delicious egg yolk. It is sooo good and so worth the 6 bucks. It does get a little sticky, so make sure you grab a bunch of napkins. Would love to stop by to try some of their buns next time! read more

I don't know how this place has so many good reviews. It's pretty expensive and it isn't that great. I only tried this place because it had just opened as I was walking around the marketplace, about to head to the ferry. I bought a piece of shumai for a little over $2. Yes, ONE piece. For that price, it better be wrapped in edible gold, but it wasn't. It did have mushrooms in it, but it was okay. The shumai back in Maryland and New York are way better. I also got the steam pork bun and a chicken and chive pie. The pork bun did not have enough filling in it. This place made me miss the dimsum back home. If I ever head back to Pike Place Market , I'll have to remember that I do not want me some pastry. read more

Had to try their truffle Siu Mai. Can't tell if there was truffle in it. Might as well shovel some dirt on it and that will add some earthy flavors to it. It was not a bad Siu Mai but it wasn't great either. I expected the price to be lower here since there was no place to even stand and eat, let alone park my fat butt on a chair. Pike's Place is for tourists, so expect a touristy price. read more

I tried BBQ Bun and pineapple bun. I love the BBQ bun. It's worth to try it! But pineapple bun is not worth it. Too much bread dough. It's not fluffy and soft. I felt like I was chewing thick plain bread. But yea, definitely try their BBQ pork. Lots of meat filling in the bun. read more

Stopped to try this little stall because it had a decent line outside and smelled fantastic. Tried the baked beef curry bun and DANG. I've never had such a good bun. It was warm and soft with a sweet and crispy top that complemented the delicious savory curry filling. It's a little messy and left a bunch of crumbs in my beard, but 100% worth it. Service was quick and friendly, and other people in line couldn't shut up about the Crab Rangoons. Looks like I gotta go back again to sample those. read more

I've been a huge fan of Mee Sum for maybe 35 years. Everytime we're in the Market we have to stop by and pick up some of their bbq pork hom bao. And by some, its some to eat right away and some to bring home. We introduced their Hom Bao to our kids when they were toddlers and now they're hooked as well. I'm also now a fan of their red bean sesame balls, Yum!!! read more

Dungeness was perfect sweet, meaty, lightly covered with olive oil, lemon, parsley, some very tasty potato wedges and a side of broccolini. I'll never be able to eat crab legs again without trying to recreate the sweet cream melted butter to dip every morsel in. I ate more of the wedges than I should have... Then my hubby ordered the creme brulee to finish it off!! That's my favorite dessert... crunchy caramelized top, strawberries and fresh whipped cream... we couldn't finish it. So fresh and so delicious. The clam chowder was my second favorite and I would choose this clam chowder over Pike's. I thought the salmon belly wasn't bad, but it didn't live up to the price tag. It was the most expensive thing we got and my least favorite. Overall, get the poke and the clam chowder!!

Whatever they're doing back there, it's working. The brine was full and present in every shell, and the mignonette hit that rare sweet spot of light but actually seasoned. The Winter Old Fashioned? Get it. It was so delicious. Then came the crab Benedict. The side salad alone was worth writing home about -- big, buttery, peppery leaves draped in one of those feather-light vinaigrettes that sounds simple until you try to replicate it at home and realize you can't. But the real star of the entire plate was the potatoes. Crispy outside, genuinely fluffy inside, seasoned with conviction. A masterpiece is not too strong a word. Closed with a glass of pink wine. It was pretty dead when we arrived around 5pm, with only one other larger table seated, which made for a relaxed, easygoing happy hour. We took my mother - a person who lives with disabilities and requires a mobility scooter. The staff went out of their way to help her feel comfortable and well taken care of. In my book - the staff of Duke's of south Lake Union are a solid 5 stars rating. And, the food is a 3'ish rating. Put together- it's a place that is worth visiting if for nothing else than the amazing staff. Oh, and the view on Lake Union is also really great, especially if you can grab a table near one of the patio heaters.
