    Sashimi

By far, some of the best sushi I've had in the states. The tuna truffle special was out of the world flavorful that I was honestly shocked with the amount of flavor and taste I was hit with all at once. The udon was just okay, but the other sashimi rolls were fantastic. The drinks were also good and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the service as well as the setting/atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My friends and I dined at Matsuhisa this past weekend and had a very nice experience. Our friend who has dined here in the past took control and ordered for us. The service was superb. Between the food runners bringing the food out and our waitress always being present set the tone. The food was really good, but the wagyu wasn't worth it. Everything else was really good. I do suggest the bento box for dessert. The molten chocolate cake was hot and oozing chocolate filling. We sat out doors and the views were breathtaking looking into the mountains. The only con was that on Saturdays they have a dj playing in front of the restaurant which made it tough to talk. Otherwise a very nice experience.

We were SO looking forward to returning to Matsuhisa since we were last here in 2/20 (during the epic snowstorm). Matsuhisa has always been our favorite in Vail, however, the food fell really flat and was so disappointing. The sushi looked good but didn't taste fresh. Definitely was not memorable. The best part of the meal was the shrimp tempura, salad and the cocktails. Service was superb so would give 5-stars for that.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Incredible atmosphere and service![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place was hyped up and it delivered. The Sake, Cocktail and wine selection is a legit. The food, exquisite, lots of small bites and larger entrees. Ask for Dan behind the bar, super knowledgeable!

4.5 rounding up to a 5 because the service was impeccable. The food was very good overall, though the nigiri portions were quite skimpy--the fish was thin, especially considering the price, which was higher than top spots in Denver like Sushi Den or Temaki Den. However, the non-sushi dishes, like the crispy rice, black miso cod lettuce wraps, and sizzling cauliflower, were excellent. The service truly stood out--each time we used a plate, it was promptly replaced, and we felt very well taken care of. While I think it's one of the better restaurants in Vail, I might be biased because sushi is my favorite!

Everything here was amazing! They were super busy but our server was still on top of it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Family friendly but also great spot for a date.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The whitefish crudo was incredible! They also have amazing cocktails.

Unfortunately this place has really fallen off lately. We always have amazing service and super knowledgeable waiters, however, the sushi is just not worth the price at all. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Been wanting to try the upstairs bar though since it always seems lively/fun, so may have to come back and give them one more shot...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Giving this a 4 star food was excellent, so delicious everything, service is quick and nonstop and we got seated earlier than our reservation, only complaint is the waiters hovering waiting for you to finish but overall super good food, and such a cute little place

We went to Vail to ski at the end of February and beginning of March. First time staying in Vail so we relied on concierge from our hotel to make dinner reservations which ended up being all very similar restaurants. So after the first two days we started asking for recommendations and Matsuhisa was one of them along with Chasing Rabbits (see separate review). We tried making reservations but they were booked three weeks out. Told we could try to walk in if we showed up a little before 5pm. So a couple days later, we showed up a little after 5 and had to get in line but were seated within 20 minutes. As we were walking to our table we were greeted by the sitting patrons to "Irasshaimase". I stated laughing thinking I was in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and was expecting Larry David to pop out. Maitre'd told us the place was crazy for a month after that episode of Curb aired. My wife isn't a fan of Sushi but found a wonderful spinach salad with dry miso, parmesan, and grilled shrimp to enjoy as her main meal. We also snacked on Edamame and skewers of beef and chicken. I had the Blue Fin Tuna sashimi special and a separate order of sushi. The service was great and the food excellent. My wife tried the Gardener drink special which was flavorful with a little bite to it. The Gardener can be made with Tequila, Gin, or Vodka to suit your taste. The deserts were outstanding. My wife was in heaven with the rice pudding and I got my chocolate fix with the Bento Box. (See pictures of most of our meal). Looking forward to stopping here again next year. Irasshaimase.

Loved the food at matsuhisa. It's authentic Japanese food with both sushi and warm food options. We had the vegetable and yellowtail rolls and they were divine. As a couple we also shared a seafood soba noodle soup and the kitchen / server was so kind to serve the soup split into 2 bowls. The seafood were so well cooked and the broth was delicious. We also had a salad and tempura for appetizer and they were not bad but not as amazing as the sushi and soup. Overall, great dining experience although I would like to note that the server did want to push us to order more when we already ordered more than enough for 2 ppl, which made us feel slightly uncomfortable

The long wait was worth it, please make a reservation before coming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating was very nice you can choose to sit at the sushi bar or a table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sushi has a wide variety from sashimi, nigiri and American sushi. I would recommend the shrimp tempura roll, as that is my favorite sushi. It is also part of a hotel. Me and my friend came here after we skied and got very high quality sushi.

I ordered the lamp chops, which were presented beautifully. I requested medium-rare, but when I cut into the first piece, it was well done, and the second was the same. The third piece was slightly better, but I called the manager to complain. He assured me that they would replace it and make it perfect. By the time my new meal arrived, my friends had already finished theirs. I cut into the first piece, and it was again well done. The next two pieces were just okay, but I decided to eat them. They promised to replace the well-done piece, but when I tried the lamb, it was not even that great. It had an unusual texture and tasted terrible. I've had a lot of lamb in my life, and this was by far one of the worst I've ever had. To make amends, they gave us three small pieces of Mochi cut in half. Makoto, please do better.

This is a restaurant in Grant Hyatt, and I was anticipating a really nice dining experience…read more.. First of all, I called in for an early reservation (5:30 pm!) here well in advance, so I thought it wouldn't be difficult to snag a decent table...but nope! We ended up sitting in this super-narrow space in the middle of the restaurant by the kitchen AND the restroom. Well, anyone that knows me know that I am claustrophobic, and can't stand being in a tight space like this. We could hear every word said by the couple sitting right next to us...almost close enough to touch us!! It was awful...and I wanted to leave before even sitting down! ANYWAY, I decided to grit my teeth and endure the uncomfortable dining. I started with a very strong drink...this Whisky cocktail (forgot the name), which was ridiculously expensive ($24?), but luckily, very good! We ordered several items to share....Rock Shrimp appetizer, Wagyu Fried Rice, Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup and this fancy appetizer (forgot the name). Rock Shrimp appetizer and the Wagyu Fried Rice were both solid. However, the Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup was utterly tasteless...I could barely down half of it, even with chili sauce added to it. Tasted like really bad Pho (and I'm not even a fan of Pho). The dessert was very good, and I really enjoyed trying the pink Spagetti textured cream. The presentation was very awkward though. Why the brown tray...when this modern white dish (if you call it that?) was cool on its own?? Speaking of presentation, all the dishes were quite sloppy. Everything looked as if they were just slopped unto the dish without a care in the world...and just not fitting for the price points. Needless to say, it was a very disappointing experience for me. The seating itself ruined half of the experience...then the really bland ramen (more like Pho?!?) just seemed to cap it as the worst meal I've had in Vail and Breckenridge. Even the fancy dessert couldn't save it...as it struck me as a bit awkward-tacky? Tight, awkward seating...Limited options on the menu...Poor presentation...and way overpriced! Definitely will not be returning here.

If you want authentic Szechuan this is the place! What we got: - Wonton soup - homemade dumplings had a good ginger and garlic flavor. Big enough for two as an app. - Double cooked pork - absolutely outstanding. Big portion with vegetables, fermented black beans, so good! - Spicy crispy fish - highly recommend this if you like spicy food. I love this dish whether the chicken or fish variations and this might have been the best I've had! I can't say enough about the Chinese food. We were blown away with how good they were. Our server Patrick was incredible. He was so friendly and welcoming. He's a serious skier and you can often find him backpacking 30+ pounds of cooking gear to make fresh food slope side! We have tried many places in Vail and I highly, highly, highly recommend this place. The interior is small so I recommend making a reservation. Pro tip: it's BYOB so bring a bottle of wine or a few beers!

Since I'd parked at Lions Head, before I returned to Denver, I considered the Vail Chophouse, as their menu looked delicious, however when I went inside, the live music was so loud - even with my noise-canceling headphones still in- that I still couldn't hear, and knew I'd blow out my ear drums. Enter: Montauk Seafood Grill, the perfect antidote, with an equally appealing menu, and a much more serene ambiance. :-) Given I was famished, I asked my wonderful server, Brenn, for recommendations, and she was - hands down - one of the best servers I've had, in a long time. She was friendly, attentive, honest, and an all around delight. I started by asking her suggestion, as to if I should order the "Blood Moon" or "Happy Coconut" mocktail, and she recommended the Blood Moon, which was delicious! I love Blood Orange, and it had the perfect combination of mint, to be both sweet & sour. I needed a mocktail, given I was driving back to Denver, after dinner. She then brought me delicious Rosemary Sourdough and Citrus Butter, as a starter, which was fantastic, especially given I needed all the carbs, from skipping lunch, riding so much, and from fasting the night before, for a prior medical appointment, that morning, in Denver, hence my late start, snowboarding. Then I ordered - and loved - the Point Reyes Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon, medium rare, with the most delicious asparagus I've ever had, and I was grateful that they could make my truffle potatoes, whipped, instead of hash brown style. I ended my delicious dinner with a cappuccino, for the drive home. Perfection!

I had a delicious light salad and then had their signature salmon dish. Portion size was as perfect for both items! Others at the table were not as satisfied.
