Came back to an old favorite and things have definitely improved! Service has gotten better, and the food is somehow tastier. We've come in for happy hour, dinner and brunch, all of the options were worth the visit!

I didn't even know this Matchbox was over here but it was a vibe and I'll be back. They even had a DJ playing! I sat the bar before going to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Seems like brunch had just ended. Service was a little slow but I only wanted a drink. I ordered a strawberry lemon drop and it was pretty good.

I stopped by Matchbox on Capitol Hill and had such a great experience! The pizza was absolutely delicious -- perfectly crisp crust, fresh toppings, and that great wood-fired flavor that makes every bite memorable. You can really taste the quality in their ingredients. The cocktails were just as impressive -- well-crafted, balanced, and served with care. Whether you're into something classic or want to try one of their signature drinks, you can't go wrong. The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, and the staff made me feel right at home. It's the perfect spot for a casual dinner, date night, or drinks with friends. Can't wait to go back!

The Matchbox at Eastern Market, DC (Capitol Hill) Recently, I was walking around DC with my mom when lunchtime hunger hit us. After reviewing a few nearby options, we landed on Matchbox, largely because my mom had a craving for chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, that dish didn't make it onto the newly released menu. So, she pivoted to the fried chicken meal, which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. I, on the other hand, couldn't decide. There were too many tempting options left me paralyzed. In a moment of indecision, I hastily ordered the mumbo wings, a cup of cream of crab soup, and a guava lemonade. The décor was warm, well-laid-out, and inviting, so I was surprised by how quiet it was during prime lunch hours. When the food arrived, I instantly felt plate envy. My mom's fried chicken looked golden, crisp, and plentiful, with sides that appeared equally appetizing. My mumbo wings, however, were smaller and less flavorful than I hoped. Fortunately, the cream of crab soup was excellent, rich, creamy, and satisfying, and the guava lemonade was refreshingly good. One critique: given how light the crowd was, I expected a bit more attentiveness from the staff. While our food came out quickly, check-ins were scarce and service felt a bit detached. Recommendation level- mixed: * Food: Mixed -- some hits, some misses * Décor: High marks -- stylish and comfortable * Service: Could be more attentive Overall, a pleasant atmosphere and decent meal, but a few refinements could make the experience truly shine.

We were in the mood for hamburgers, so we came here. They were everything we'd been hoping for! My husband asked for onion straws instead of fries, & the waitress was accommodating.

Surprised my friend for her birthday with MatchBox's unlimited brunch special. It was the perfect opportunity to sample some of everything off the menu! Their biscuits are always my go to and I was glad they were included in the brunch special as we ordered 3 batches between the two of us. Our favorites were the sweet chili salmon pizza for the novelty, shrimp and grits for its creaminess, and blueberry lemon pancakes for their sweetness. The caesar salad was nice and the side of catfish was the right portion size. All the food was worth the brunch price. And the service of the waitress was excellent. She was attentive to our needs and checked on our table frequently. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the lighting at our table was awful. It effected the quality of our photos, bur an overall wonderful experience. I can see myself going back once a quarter for their brunches.

About a 1-1.5: We had ordered here for a work lunch, and while navigating the online system was extremely difficult (slow loading, error signs, etc.), we were managed to submit for a pickup. We had ordered: +a couple of the Roasted Salmon entrees - this was supposed to be butternut squash risotto with cremini mushrooms, oven-roasted tomatoes, and shaved Parm; we had requested the goat cheese and arugula on the side, but this came in a small condiment cup in which the arugula and the goat cheese were already mixed together; in addition, the arugula was not fresh, and the goat cheese was hardly in existence +a Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo - with sun-dried tomatoes and cremini mushroom; the chicken itself was overcooked and super chewy; the side of garlic bread was extremely soggy from the heat, as it was not even packed separately, but put inside the container; there was a request for extra alfredo sauce, but the pasta were hardly dressed and dried out Service was friendly at pickup, but there was confusion on the order and it didn't seem to have been ready yet, even though we had arrived during the pickup time quoted. Not a great experience; we'd probably try another eatery the next time around. +greens are not fresh +overcooked proteins +soggy breads +customizations not adhered to

From the minute we sat down EVERYTHING was great! We were a group of 6 and our waitstaff, Charles was outstanding at keeping our drinks filled and bellies full! We ordered Arancini- it comes with 3 balls which is fine to cut in half, 4- 10in pizzas (hot honey pepperoni, garlic chicken, shrimp Alfredo, margherita) garlic chicken was the table favorite (shocked us all with how good it was), catfish and grits which was plenty to share with the fish lovers at the table- you would need 2 if everyone in your party loves fish, and all 5 desserts! Listing them in the order we loved them, s'mores, donut holes, apple crisp, chocolate brownie and finally the cheesecake. It was fun to try all of them but the brownie and cheesecake weren't anything special and we could have ordered 2 orders of donut holes and the s'mores and been just as happy. Fun place to go with friends where you spend time talking and grazing thru the meal!

Chorizo eggs, grilled chicken on the taco bar were excellent! biscuits & strawberries amazing. Got a $5 reward by signing up with Thompson table rewards. Free cheesy bread for new customers!

Shrimp & Grits This was my least favorite but the flavor was all there!

This place was great! I love the atmosphere, service was friendly and professional, and they offered more food than I could eat lol They offer a bottomless brunch where you can eat w.e your heart desire for 2hrs. They also have a bottomless drink option that I took full advantage of! Will visit again next time I'm in town!

Was my first time stopping by. We received excellent customer service from Tracy T. There were so many food choices to choose from . The atmosphere is so beautiful and peaceful, totally recommend for a date. Will definitely be returning.

This place was very good! Didn't realize that the fried catfish sandwich was beer battered but other seafood was fried differently. Wasn't a fan of that. The service was great, they were accommodating. The ambiance was nice, it was a vibe.

I don't know if I'm selecting well or if it's maybe just low key the ultimate style of pizza but this is yet another fantastic example. Super Unique Setup With Cool Lights That Make It Easy To Spot. It's Different From Your Typical Pizza Place, Which I Actually Liked. This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. The Ingredients Tasted Fresh, & It Was Very Filling. The Size I Got Came With 4 Slices, & Honestly, 2 Slices Was More Than Enough. I'd Definitely Come Back & Bring My Son This Feels Like A Spot He'd Love, Especially If He's Into Breadsticks & Cheesy Pizza. The Staff Was Decent, Though I Didn't Interact Much. The Overall Setup Is Interesting, A Full Restaurant Vibe Inside With This Separate Pizza Concept On The Side. Different, But It Works. That month I had started Uber driving, was in this area of DC, had heard good things about Wiseguy, and decided to eat here. Although I don't like paying to park just to simply eat a meal, I sometimes will make an exception for convenience and/or if it's a place I really want to go. But for the most part, I'll go to restaurant where they have free parking or at least I can find free parking near the restaurant. I remembered getting a parking spot very close and feel like I feed the meter like 50 cents in 2014 parking prices for a quick 30 minute meal. They have all kinds of varieties of slices from the standard toppings or just cheese to fancy ones. Although the pizza is fairly thin, but average for New York style pizza. I tried Andy's Pizza 11 years later in 2025, and while it was solid although not as good as Wiseguy, my real complaint with Andy's was that the pizza is very thin, where I was hungry very soon later; so a much worse value as pricing is comparable to Wiseguy. Wiseguy slices are big, and the pizza is top notch New York style. I went to this location a couple of more times after my initial August 2014 visit as I loved the pizza. Then, they opened up other locations. I went to Navy Yard one at least twice, once after a Nationals baseball game after a disappointing loss for my 4th favorite baseball team, Texas Rangers. Sorry Nats fans, but Nats are in my bottom 10 teams. I also went to Rosslyn & Pentagon City location, where parking isn't quite as bad. They even had a Wheaton Mall food court location, which I got to experience once, but they sadly closed. Every experience with Wiseguy has been positive.

It's worth the compromise- trust me! Both were delicious but I'll skip the detroit crust next time, and there will be a next time. For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill. Continuing the last 3 of the runner-up alphabet series (& then onto 2025 alphabet series with…read morerunner-ups included at the same time) and the only representing 2023, W is for Wiseguy Pizza. I first had Wiseguy on 3rd & Massachusetts Ave NW way back in 2014, and I knew I loved their pizza. I had also been to a couple of other locations in Arlington & their only one in MD, which closed, at Wheaton Mall. I visited this Navy Yard Wiseguy about 3 times. The first was on Monday, January 6, 2020. I had work travel to DC. My girlfriend of that time was working in DC. It was a brief period of time. She started in December 2019, then on that Friday, 1/10, the contract was furloughed due to the contract company President dying, so she was off for 2 weeks. Then, it was back to normal commuting back to DC, which was brief, as Covid was around the corner, and became 100% remote. She was happy I surprised her coordinating lunch at Wiseguy at Navy Yard not far from her work. This location was pretty new at the time. She & I loved our pizza. It's a thin NY style, perhaps the best in the DMV! The other noteworthy time I visited was on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Early that afternoon, I was way up at Columbia Mall, where I happened to be writing this Yelp review now, as I ate lunch & had a movie on my AMC A-List. Afterward, I was texting/calling with a friend. He was itching to go to a baseball game. O's were away, but Nationals were in town playing against one of my favorite teams, the Texas Rangers, and I had their pitcher in our Fantasy baseball league. We coordinated that afternoon having about 1.5 hours to buy tickets on phone, for me to drive from Columbia to Greenbelt Metro with some modest traffic on parts of 95, & metro all the way on Green line for the 4:05 game. My friend was running a bit later, so we didn't enter right at 4:05, but my heart sank when I heard Nats fans loudly cheering for a homer. My Rangers pitcher got clobbered by the Nats. I was pissed at him quickly dropping him the next morning as soon as I could. Although rain chances were low like 15%, there was a heavy thunderstorm that blew from DCA to Nats Park; almost the entire region was clear, but just bad luck. The rain lasted like 15 minutes, but I was pissed at the Nats because they delayed the game by 1.5 hours! They should've gotten the game going within 45 minutes. I think it was a ploy by the Nats to get people to buy more drinks & food. I refused to give the Nats a dime besides the ticket to go to the game. But after the rain, I was hungry from like the 5th inning to the end. We should've been out of there about 6:30 (which would've been on par with my hunger level) but instead like 8 PM. I told my friend about Wiseguy seeing it was quick & relatively cheap. He loved their pizza too as did I once again. If I'm ever in Navy Yard, Wiseguy is definitely a viable option for me.
