What in the world happened to Mary Brown's Chicken? They used to be good and my favourite Canadian fried chicken. I know this for a fact since I have been a long-time customer and have tried Mary Brown's chicken from different locations ranging from Scarborough, North York, Vaughan and even in Newfoundland. I tried their Batter's Box in the new downtown Toronto location. I was dismayed and shocked of how their food quality went downhill. The chicken was so dry but at the same time it was greasy. I also find it less flavourful and less seasoned than before. And their taters which was my absolute fave (even though I'm not fond of fries) was now a dry and tasteless piece of crap. The crispy potatoes that i used to love is now a thing of the past. Don't even get me started on their biscuits - which is hard as a rock and tasted sweet and not savoury. So is this a location specific quality? If I go to another Mary Brown's location will I have a better experience? This is so disappointing since I'd rather patronize Canadian businesses vs their American chain counterparts. But if this is an ongoing food quality decline then I'd rather not return to this establishment.

Grand opening for Canadian fried chicken!

Did you know Mary Brown's is Canadian and started in Newfoundland? I only learned this fun fact today! I was walking along Spadina and the balloons caught my attention. Grand opening with free lunches for the first 100 people! The spicy chicken sandwich was tender and juicy. I liked the heat! I'm not usually a fan of wedges but to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the coating on these! They have a take out window which will open later along the Spadina side. The main entrance is facing Richmond. Seating both indoors and outdoors. A few more tidbits of information I'd like to share: all of the chicken is fresh and not frozen. They cut their chicken into 8 pieces, not 12 like some other places. They serve cans and bottles of beverages, they don't have fountain drinks. Today they put their best foot forward to show customers what to expect. Good luck and I wish you long term success! Elbows up!

The I Heart Butter Tart Concrete ($6.49) that I ordered was a little too much for myself. I did decide to go through and finish the ice cream / sundae just so I don't have anything to go. The interior of the place was properly though out and well designed. Self order stations are available to order from and the ordering interface is one of the better systems I have seen. When I dined in early afternoon on a weekday it was a rather slow day. There were a couple of Shake Shack employees constantly roaming about the premises ready to attend to any customer request. 1 such employee was thoughtful enough to serve me and a group of other customers some water. I have mixed feelings about the bathroom setup. Yes, it is clean and there were a few toilet rooms available, but it requires a code to be entered prior to using. The door screen shows as vacant but an employee still needs to give out the 4 digit code needed to access the toilets. I also found some issues with the water faucet sensors. It is inconsistently picking up my gestures resulting in an unreliable and unsteady flow of running water when I was washing my hands.

I couldn't let the opportunity pass. The dining space? Bright, clean, inviting. Modern but casual. Off to a genuinely good start. And then... things went south. I ordered the peri-peri chicken with two sides. The wait was excruciating. Not just long--confusing. Every single person who ordered after me was eating while I sat there wondering if my ticket got lost in another country. When the chicken finally arrived, I was stunned--and not in a good way. Easily the smallest leg/thigh combo I've ever seen. Yes, I'm used to USA-sized, GMO-filled chickens, but I've eaten plenty overseas. This wasn't "European portioning." This was kiddie-sized. Flavor? Underwhelming. Forgettable. Nothing that made me pause, nothing that lingered. For a place built on peri-peri heat and personality, this was shockingly flat. I can get chicken with more punch at my local Grocery & Go. The mac and cheese had decent texture--the breadcrumbs did their job--but flavor-wise? Completely bland. Zero soul. The fries? Although well seasoned, we're like warm. Overhyped things rarely deliver, and Nando's sadly fits the bill. Massive disappointment is the phrase that keeps coming to mind

The reason they have "express" in their store name is that the food is usually ready within 2 mins. During busy times, you have to wait until they get to your order. There is a little window where they place food that is ready, and a server brings them to your table (if you are dining in). We ordered the following: A1: Spring Roll 4 pcs ($11.99). A2: Shrimp Fresh Roll 4 pcs ($11.99). M1: Assorted Thap Cam Banh Mi ($8.99). P1: Special Beef Noodle Soup/Pho ($17.99). C2: Grilled Chicken and Fried Egg on Broken Rice ($15.99). V1: Grilled Pork & Spring Rolls with Vermicelli ($18.99). D1: Passion-Mango Green Tea ($4.99). D4: Ice Coffee with Condensed Milk ($4.99). D5: Pop x 2 ($1.99 x 2). The customer service is good. They forgot to tell us that extra condiments can be found on a counter near the washroom. There is plenty of indoor tables, most of them are for two people. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-230

Decided I was going to try all 3 of their banh mi along with the special beef noodle. Wow the baguettes are definitely something special. Super thin crispy shell with nice and airy bread. They can definitely sell the plain baguettes. Meat fillings were generous and tasted great. Both pork and chicken had a nice fresh grill taste with them. Beef special pho soup was also great. The soup didn't taste watered down. All in all a great addition. Place will do well if it maintains its standard. Only time will tell!

This restaurant chain introduced the "Chinese Hamburger" in a crispy bun to Toronto back in 2021-05-23 (soft opening). Very tasty indeed! Plus, they have a wide variety of appetizers. The two owners are from China. The brand was founded in Beijing on 2014-04-08 and now has over 65 locations in Beijing. The Chinese Hamburger is called Rou Jia Mo (肉夹馍) in Chinese, which literally translates to "meat in a bun". It is the cuisine of China's Shaanxi province, which has the capital city of Xi'An (or Xian), where you find the terracotta warriors. For Chinese hamburgers, there are two types of buns: crispy and non-crispy. Most restaurants use the non-crispy buns but Bingz is the only restaurant in the GTA that uses the baked crispy buns.
