It was only ok, but after tipping it was almost $75, with tip for two people (we paid with cash as we didn't want to get hit with a 3% surcharge for using a credit card, as was posted on the front door) it wasn't worth it. We had breakfast: $15 for French toast + $4.50 for a handful of berries, $7 for a side of bacon. I know prices have gone up everywhere, but for what we got, we probably won't be back. Typical breakfast / diner food. I had the macadamia pancakes, added bananas. It was literally just pancakes, with crumbled macadamia nuts on top lol nothing special! It was still tasty, and the coffee was good. I highly recommend asking for your potato's to be extra crispy. They'll do it, and it's delicious! We came in at about 12:30 on a Monday, and there was no wait. We also found parking right out front. The waitstaff was attentive and nice overall. Used to Be Great--Now It's Just Bad I don't know what happened to this place, but it's not the same anymore. The pancakes were flat, rubbery, and barely edible. The eggs Benedict? Completely bland--no flavor, no seasoning, just sad poached eggs on a soggy English muffin. The house potatoes tasted like absolutely nothing, and somehow the coffee managed to be worse than what you'd get at a gas station at 3 a.m. This used to be one of my favorite breakfast spots, but it's clear the quality has gone way downhill. Even the crowds and the hour and a half wait has gone away! If you remember how good it used to be, do yourself a favor and hold on to that memory--because now it's just disappointing. Stay away. Marston's has always had a solid reputation for excellent food. However, the last time I dined there was probably 20 years ago. Despite the delicious food it tends to offer, I have been reluctant to go back due to memories of long wait times and a tiny parking lot. Now, if I am gonna go enjoy a high-quality breakfast or lunch, the last thing I want to deal with is a long wait time and difficult parking. As I've gotten older and crustier, I definitely do not possess the patience for these things. Recently a friend suggested we meet at Marston's. I agreed because I know the food is good but mostly because this is a very good friend. And I will put my grievances about parking and waiting aside for her. For her only. So we meet and to my surprise, several tables are available! I avoided the parking lot entirely and parked at the public parking garage on Raymond just south of Walnut. It was a short walk to the restaurant. I sit down, decide on an order, then check in on Yelp to get the free piece of baklava they mention on their page. I let the waitress know, and she says, "Oh, we don't do that here". I said, "It's on your Yelp page" and she says, "Yea, but the owner doesn't do that anymore". I said, " Well, maybe the owner should update the page and remove the check in offer". The waitress just sort of shrugged and walked away. Honestly, I didn't care about getting the baklava. I rarely go for freebies of any kind. But it was kind of embarrassing and an uncomfortable transaction. Moving onto the food, the tuna melt and accompanying orzo salad were delicious. The atmosphere was homey, warm, and just what you what expect from eating in a cozy Pasadena craftsman house. The gentleman who refilled our drinks was pleasant and polite. I am usually quite generous with my Yelp reviews but I have to dock a star because of the Yelp check in thing. Also the parking situation does still suck. The food, however, is as excellent as I remember. If the owner or manager reads this, please do remove the free offer on your Yelp page! A good simple breakfast/lunch restaurant in a world of trendy brunch places. If you're looking for some hearty food without a fancy menu, this is a place to check out. Came here after a hike to echo mountain. Arrived around 1130am and was able to get seated quickly. The menu us simple. One side for breakfast, one side for lunch. I had the pulled pork benedict. Overall it was good, but the pulled pork was a little too mushy for my taste and there wasn't the bold smoky flavor that's typically expected from pulled pork. The potatoes were excellent though. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was about a 15 min wait for a table which wasn't too bad just wish LA wasn't 100 degrees outside that day but we waited under a shade :( anyway, when you walk in it feels like you're eating at home. It has a cozy vibe and the AC was on full blast so I ate my meal comfortably. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. I got the crispy chicken sandwich. It was very good. The service was lacking big time, not only for myself and boyfriend but for another poor patron as well who sat for about 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging him, he literally had to go up to the counter to ask for his order to be taken. We finally made it!!! Absolutely worth the drive! This cute little house is cooking up some serious deliciousness! My son and I shared a Denver omelette w/potatoes, he also had the kid's chocolate chip pancakes, and we tried the works French toast . Make sure to bring your appetite we had plenty left over to to bring home. Not only did everything looking amazing, it was amazing! Plenty of filling in the omelette, potatoes nicely seasoned, French toast crispy with plenty of fresh berries, pancakes prefect portion for a 9year old. This brunch place has always been one of my favorite. But I like it more for its traditional stability than any particular novelty. It feels like you're eating at your house, and the serving staff has always been nice and attentive in my experience. I usually have the Works (which is a fancy French toast dish) perfect for those looking for a sweet brunch or the Powerhouse omelet (which is a cheese-free egg white dish made for athletes and what I think is a healthy diet of vegetables and lean protein). You can order the powerhouse with regular eggs as well. The coffee is solid, but they don't have fancy coffee drinks, if you need your cold brew oat milk matcha latte with gold dust then this is not the place for you. Parking is limited for the restaurant, prob total 10-15 spots. There's additional parking on Raymond just south of walnut in a public parking structure. It costs 1$ for the first 2 hrs so pretty cheap. Overall solid brunch place for the old fashioned feel. read more

Ordered the works French toast and the huevos rancheros. I was twice disappointed. I love corn flakes and I love French toast. So I lamely thought the two together would be great! I was wrong. The corn flake crumbs don't add anything to the French toast. If anything the odd texture detracts from what would otherwise be very tasty French toast. The berries were sweet and fresh. But they forgot the candied pecans. Not like they would've helped much anyway. The huevos rancheros should not even be called huevos rancheros. Granted, this is Marston's and not Mexican but still, there's a certain reasonable expectation. These "huevos rancheros" were an obscene mass of black beans piled on top of three non-toasted, non-warmed, straight-from-the-plastic-bag corn tortillas. Had trouble finding the two eggs buried within. I was able to find one for sure. But if you like six or so whopping dollops of sour cream on your food, this is the dish for you! And the sliced avocado on top was good. The best part of this two-course disappointment were the potatoes. So three stars overall just for having fresh produce I guess. read more

Tried this place out on a whim. It's a little hidden and the parking lot is small. The servers are friendly and attentive. It's a cozy place and our meals were good. I like the fact that this was once upon a time someone's home. Im sure there is lots of history. I like old places like this to explore, some of the restaurant's home history is written and framed on the wall which is cool. If you are looking for a low key brunch place in Pasadena Marston's is the place for you. The restaurant is pretty popular for breakfast/ brunch and there is a always a line. The line moves pretty quick so make sure you put your name down on the list. We had the pulled pork Benedict and their popular French toast. The servers were extremely polite and efficient! They even split our Benedict for us without us asking for them to do it. The portions are large and definitely value for money! They have parking behind the restaurant but it gets filled up pretty quickly. They recommend parking at 171 N Raymond Ave for free 90 min parking. I arrived early and started off with the cheese popovers ($2.50 for 3). For my main, I ordered a turkey sandwich that comes w/ your choice of side ($10.95). My choice of side was a jicama salad. My associate ordered a blackened salmon salad ($18.50). First of all, the popovers were excellent. They were warm, moist and had a nice piece of cheese inside. These things are addicting!: 5 Stars. Secondarily, its hard to get excited about a turkey sandwich. However, this one was packed w/ moist turkey, and the produce was fresh. In addition, the jicama salad was very refreshing, and a nice change of pace from a green salad: 4 Stars. My associate's salmon was a large, thick piece of fish. He is a regular here, and he is a picky eater. Regarding the ambiance, its a converted home like a number of businesses (dentists, et al) in the Pasadena area. There is also outdoor seating: 4 Stars. Likewise, the service from Kat was friendly and warm. We were constantly being attended to: 4 Stars. My associate's office is right around the corner, so it made it easy to go to Marston's. Quaint atmosphere- free parking- indoor as well as outdoor seating. My friend and husband raved about their huevos rancheros however both my cousin and I felt our omelette s were slightly overcooked. Luckily, we got a parking spot in the corner in their lot, but I can see how it can be tricky especially during busy times. The place was jammed pack and super busy already!
