Typical breakfast / diner food. I had the macadamia pancakes, added bananas. It was literally just pancakes, with crumbled macadamia nuts on top lol nothing special! It was still tasty, and the coffee was good. I highly recommend asking for your potato's to be extra crispy. They'll do it, and it's delicious! We came in at about 12:30 on a Monday, and there was no wait. We also found parking right out front. The waitstaff was attentive and nice overall. It's a small place, so I don't recommend large groups unless you call ahead! read more

Marston's has always had a solid reputation for excellent food. However, the last time I dined there was probably 20 years ago. Despite the delicious food it tends to offer, I have been reluctant to go back due to memories of long wait times and a tiny parking lot. Now, if I am gonna go enjoy a high-quality breakfast or lunch, the last thing I want to deal with is a long wait time and difficult parking. As I've gotten older and crustier, I definitely do not possess the patience for these things. Recently a friend suggested we meet at Marston's. I agreed because I know the food is good but mostly because this is a very good friend. And I will put my grievances about parking and waiting aside for her. For her only. So we meet and to my surprise, several tables are available! I avoided the parking lot entirely and parked at the public parking garage on Raymond just south of Walnut. It was a short walk to the restaurant. I sit down, decide on an order, then check in on Yelp to get the free piece of baklava they mention on their page. I let the waitress know, and she says, "Oh, we don't do that here". I said, "It's on your Yelp page" and she says, "Yea, but the owner doesn't do that anymore". I said, " Well, maybe the owner should update the page and remove the check in offer". The waitress just sort of shrugged and walked away. Honestly, I didn't care about getting the baklava. I rarely go for freebies of any kind. But it was kind of embarrassing and an uncomfortable transaction. Moving onto the food, the tuna melt and accompanying orzo salad were delicious. The atmosphere was homey, warm, and just what you what expect from eating in a cozy Pasadena craftsman house. The gentleman who refilled our drinks was pleasant and polite. I am usually quite generous with my Yelp reviews but I have to dock a star because of the Yelp check in thing. Also the parking situation does still suck. The food, however, is as excellent as I remember. If the owner or manager reads this, please do remove the free offer on your Yelp page! Not only are you getting our hopes up for homemade baklava, but you are setting customers up for an uncomfortable and weird transaction. Thanks!:) read more

I had the traditional eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon. Not my first time at marathons but my first time with this dish. The eggs were perfect with a wonderful hollandaise sauce. Their signature potatoes were a wonderful side. The staff were very attentive to our needs and the coffee was amazing. We sat outside on a beautiful Saturday in pasadena. Marston's is a great place for a classic brunch. It's not super trendy, but it is a great family-friendly and DOG FRIENDLY place to grab a nice meal! We always bring my dog when we go and the servers are super wonderful and bring out a little water bowl for him. The best meals to get are the french toast and eggs benedict! read more

Loved this restaurant. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was about a 15 min wait for a table which wasn't too bad just wish LA wasn't 100 degrees outside that day but we waited under a shade :( anyway, when you walk in it feels like you're eating at home. It has a cozy vibe and the AC was on full blast so I ate my meal comfortably. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. I got the crispy chicken sandwich. It was very good. The waitress was very kind and checked on us frequently. Can't wait to come again. read more

This place used to be amazing !!! Until it was taken over by different owners !! We started noticing small changes like : The chicken nuggets are rubber -horrible The hamburgers - no seasoning bland The Pasadena salad -( was my favorite)no longer they made it with spinach and not the original mix The chicken was rubber and they only offer 2 of the cheese poppers instead of 3 Pancakes - aren't as fluffy as they used to be Fruit- looked like it was purchased a week ago If you're looking for the old Marstones with that warm and friendly family place don't go here it's changed for the worst !!! read more

Well this place is a very real OG Pasadena classic. Don't blink you might miss it tucked away just off E. Walnut across from Memorial Park and a half block from Raymond. I know it's mostly known for its fabulous breakfasts but I go for the American club sandwich which is FANTASTIC. Made just the way I like it. First timer for breakfast this morning and will be a last timer. The service was lacking big time, not only for myself and boyfriend but for another poor patron as well who sat for about 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging him, he literally had to go up to the counter to ask for his order to be taken. The waitresses seem oblivious and really don't care. I had the blueberry pancakes and bacon. We all know bacon is oily but the chef didn't even drain the grease, it was horrible. We finally made it!!! Absolutely worth the drive! This cute little house is cooking up some serious deliciousness! My son and I shared a Denver omelette w/potatoes, he also had the kid's chocolate chip pancakes, and we tried the works French toast . Make sure to bring your appetite we had plenty left over to to bring home. Not only did everything looking amazing, it was amazing! Plenty of filling in the omelette, potatoes nicely seasoned, French toast crispy with plenty of fresh berries, pancakes prefect portion for a 9year old. The morning was beautiful so we enjoyed sitting outside under the tent. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Can't wait to try the lunch! read more

I had the Rio Grande Tuna Melt. Not being a fan of tuna salad, I was stepping out of my comfort zone. Adding the chipotle peppers and onions is a must. I truly loved this sandwich. There were lots of flavors in every bite. Marston's is a down home pantry with good service. read more

This brunch place has always been one of my favorite. But I like it more for its traditional stability than any particular novelty. It feels like you're eating at your house, and the serving staff has always been nice and attentive in my experience. I usually have the Works (which is a fancy French toast dish) perfect for those looking for a sweet brunch or the Powerhouse omelet (which is a cheese-free egg white dish made for athletes and what I think is a healthy diet of vegetables and lean protein). You can order the powerhouse with regular eggs as well. The coffee is solid, but they don't have fancy coffee drinks, if you need your cold brew oat milk matcha latte with gold dust then this is not the place for you. Parking is limited for the restaurant, prob total 10-15 spots. There's additional parking on Raymond just south of walnut in a public parking structure. It costs 1$ for the first 2 hrs so pretty cheap. Overall solid brunch place for the old fashioned feel. read more

It took us 1.25 hours after seated to get our food. Upon arrival our food was painfully mediocre but we were so hungry but had no choice. For the price and the amount of time we had to wait, I would suggest skipping here and going somewhere else. Orange juice was great, must get. read more

Ordered the works French toast and the huevos rancheros. I was twice disappointed. I love corn flakes and I love French toast. So I lamely thought the two together would be great! I was wrong. The corn flake crumbs don't add anything to the French toast. If anything the odd texture detracts from what would otherwise be very tasty French toast. The berries were sweet and fresh. But they forgot the candied pecans. Not like they would've helped much anyway. The huevos rancheros should not even be called huevos rancheros. Granted, this is Marston's and not Mexican but still, there's a certain reasonable expectation. These "huevos rancheros" were an obscene mass of black beans piled on top of three non-toasted, non-warmed, straight-from-the-plastic-bag corn tortillas. Had trouble finding the two eggs buried within. I was able to find one for sure. But if you like six or so whopping dollops of sour cream on your food, this is the dish for you! And the sliced avocado on top was good. The best part of this two-course disappointment were the potatoes. So three stars overall just for having fresh produce I guess. read more

Tried this place out on a whim. It's a little hidden and the parking lot is small. The servers are friendly and attentive. It's a cozy place and our meals were good. I like the fact that this was once upon a time someone's home. Im sure there is lots of history. I like old places like this to explore, some of the restaurant's home history is written and framed on the wall which is cool. Even though it was a busy morning, it's a very calm and relaxing atmosphere which is nice and there is also some outside seating on the patio. read more

If you are looking for a low key brunch place in Pasadena Marston's is the place for you. The restaurant is pretty popular for breakfast/ brunch and there is a always a line. The line moves pretty quick so make sure you put your name down on the list. We had the pulled pork Benedict and their popular French toast. The servers were extremely polite and efficient! They even split our Benedict for us without us asking for them to do it. The portions are large and definitely value for money! They have parking behind the restaurant but it gets filled up pretty quickly. They recommend parking at 171 N Raymond Ave for free 90 min parking. If you are early enough you can snag some street parking! read more

I met a b'ness associate here and I was pleasantly surprised. Marston's is a bfast and lunch place on Walnut near Raymond in Pasadena. I arrived early and started off with the cheese popovers ($2.50 for 3). For my main, I ordered a turkey sandwich that comes w/ your choice of side ($10.95). My choice of side was a jicama salad. My associate ordered a blackened salmon salad ($18.50). First of all, the popovers were excellent. They were warm, moist and had a nice piece of cheese inside. These things are addicting!: 5 Stars. Secondarily, its hard to get excited about a turkey sandwich. However, this one was packed w/ moist turkey, and the produce was fresh. In addition, the jicama salad was very refreshing, and a nice change of pace from a green salad: 4 Stars. My associate's salmon was a large, thick piece of fish. He is a regular here, and he is a picky eater. Regarding the ambiance, its a converted home like a number of businesses (dentists, et al) in the Pasadena area. There is also outdoor seating: 4 Stars. Likewise, the service from Kat was friendly and warm. We were constantly being attended to: 4 Stars. My associate's office is right around the corner, so it made it easy to go to Marston's. However, I would have no qualms about returning here the next time I am in Pasadena. read more

A good simple breakfast/lunch restaurant in a world of trendy brunch places. If you're looking for some hearty food without a fancy menu, this is a place to check out. Came here after a hike to echo mountain. Arrived around 1130am and was able to get seated quickly. The menu us simple. One side for breakfast, one side for lunch. I had the pulled pork benedict. Overall it was good, but the pulled pork was a little too mushy for my taste and there wasn't the bold smoky flavor that's typically expected from pulled pork. The potatoes were excellent though. It doesn't come with toast, which is strange for the price you're paying. read more

Great service and one of the best breakfast restaurants that I've ever had in California!! The workers are actually very friendly and attentive most of their time while they are working hard with the customers for getting better services!! The Florentine Benedict is definitely my top favorite breakfast item from their main menu because it tastes really good and not so salty at all along with the special potatoes! The ambience of a restaurant is very nice, clean, charming, chic, and relaxing as well!! I'll be sure to stop by and eat there in Pasadena again when I have time!! Brunch on a Monday. We ordered the works French toast, just eggs with chicken cilantro meat, and poorhouse omelet with eggs. Served fast and very friendly attentive staff. Bustling morning crowd. Tons of tables to choose from. The French toast is solid but not as flavorful and flaky as I remember from the many birthdays I have celebrated here. This spot has been here for decades. It recently changed hands. That's often a death knell. That is not the case here. The food is actually better than before. The Pulled Pork Eggs Benny are amazingly good. The French Toast are legendary. The breakfasts are great period. The new owner kept the classics and added a few new items. You can literally taste the love in the food. If you've read any of my reviews in the past, that is what I look for. Love and passion in food. It's worth a drive or a flight. Hidden Gem! I had one of the best quaint breakfast experiences I've ever had here. I got the pulled pork benedict and it's SERIOUSLY good! The potatoes are awesome too, they have great seasoning and flavor. Everything here was great. The staff was tentative, the order to table time was great, and I couldn't have had a better breakfast that day. They have outdoor front and side dining, as an alternative to indoors. Quaint atmosphere- free parking- indoor as well as outdoor seating. My friend and husband raved about their huevos rancheros however both my cousin and I felt our omelette s were slightly overcooked. The coffee was a bit on the bitter side but the food was flavorful enough that I'd return with hopes of having a different server cause the server we had seemed harried and made me feel like we were an inconvenience. read more

This is my absolute favorite breakfast restaurant in Pasadena. If you disagree, you haven't been. I ordered the French Toast (full portion) and a side of special potatoes to go. I would post pictures, but I ate the food too fast. The woman who answered the phone was extremely pleasant. The men who assisted me in paying for my order were friendly as well. Very inviting, warm and friendly service. The servers are always checking up on you and ask if you need anything else. Food came out fast. Eggs Florentine was good. I've been coming here for a long time and since around 2020 , maybe even before the food hasn't been the same. The breakfast potatoes used to be amazing and now they are just so so. Same with the french toast I just ordered. The bread tasted stale and was so flat. It used to be the fluffiest french toast with a crunchy corn flake outer texture. There's just no love put in the food anymore. Quality has certainly declined. No need to come here anymore. read more

Came here on a Sunday morning around 9:30am for brunch, and waited only about 5 min for our name to be called. Luckily, we got a parking spot in the corner in their lot, but I can see how it can be tricky especially during busy times. The place was jammed pack and super busy already! It has a nice, homey feel. We got a tiny table in the corner, but happy to be seated. We were immediately greeted and served waters. Ended up ordering the blueberry pancake full stack as well as Eggs Benedict to share. The food came out pretty quickly and was piping hot. The pancakes were nice and fluffy, while the Eggs Benedict were savory and perfect with the runny yolk. The potatoes were a great side bonus. The shrimp taquitos were also not what you would expect, nice and light but still very good. Entrees we went with the center cut fillet and the prime rib dip with swiss cheese on a brioche bun. That sandwich just melts if your mouth after dipping it in the jous, and the cheese was the perfect accompiament. The fillet was cooked perfect as well, coming out medium rare. Overall, great restaurant in Pasadena. Definitely get the Mai Tai, Devine eggs and prime rib dip. Taquitos were good and, if you're feeling like another hg er appetizer, definitely a way to go . Despite its popularity, I find the food to be fairly average. Much of it tastes like it's made from standard commercial food-service ingredients rather than prepared fresh. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, the dining room has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is generally attentive. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood breakfast restaurant - nothing particularly memorable, but nothing especially disappointing either. The Reyn Special - 3/5. A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. They're cooked with a nicely browned, crispy crust while still remaining fairly moist inside. The real highlight, however, is the banana bread. It tastes homemade and is easily the best item on the plate. Crepes - 1/5. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. Both the crepe and ricotta filling have a generic flavor with noticeable artificial notes. You can choose either banana or strawberry topping, but both sauces taste overly processed and artificial. The accompanying breakfast plate is noticeably better. I chose the tater tots, which were well prepared - crispy on the outside while remaining soft inside. The bacon, however, was again overcooked and dry, making it tough to chew. The sausage was acceptable but unremarkable. Scrambled Supreme - 2.5/5. Despite the name, this is essentially an omelet. The eggs have a mild, neutral flavor, and the fillings are okay but don't stand out. Coffee - 2/5. The coffee is classic diner coffee in every sense. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. While the food is average, and several dishes rely on ingredients that taste commercially prepared rather than freshly made.

This is a average to good place for breakfast. Tried the 3 most popular dishes - Eggs Benedict, The Californian Omelette, and the Fantastic French Toast (sourdough). The Eggs Benedict are good, and that's because the eggs are cooked just right. When you cut the egg in half, you can just see the yolk slowly oozing out of the egg. And when you take a bite, you'll notice that the flavor of the ham complements the eggs well, giving you a blend of balanced flavors. $12-$13 The Californian Omelette was good too. I was a little disappointed because my omelette was a little overcooked. But the pork in the omelette was good. $12-$13 The Fantastic French Toast (Sourdough) wasn't too good. But that's probably because it was sourdough. The other types of bread like wheat look like it'd taste better. $8 And the orange juice was great in that it was fresh squeezed, but what we got really weren't the best oranges that got squeezed. They were "ok" oranges...seemed like they weren't the best oranges out of the batch. And it was $5 a glass. not worth it. Thought the tortilla under should have been crispy but finished the entire meal. Friendly staff. Refilled coffee all the time and checked on how we were doing twice within 30 minutes. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE. OMG. WOW. I LOVE YOU GUYS!! My bestie brought me here for lunch on Monday. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. Of course we had some wine, which was quite refreshing. We split the Cordierra Salad. THAT SALAD IS THE BOMB.COM I could totally eat it every day. There was not a scrap of lettuce left behind on that plate, when we were done. We also split a sandwich, that was on the special board but I can not remember the name of it. All I know is it was delicious. Once we were done, we were like hey, we should order the same thing over, to go, because it was sooooo goood. The servers were friendly and fast. The place was clean and cozy. The chairs were comfortable, the ambience was just perfect. I would TOTALLY recommend stopping in. I'd heard for years about Martson's french toast. Marston's is a well known breakfast and brunch spot that I'd heard about for years, but never managed to get to. Hubby and I finally did. The french toast starts with thick slices of sourdough bread that's dipped in egg, then rolled in cornflakes before it is fried. The portions are huge, the bacon crispy, and the fruit very fresh. But the french toast tasted like it had been cooked in oil that had previously fried fish. It was quite unpleasant. The coffee was ok. My brother enjoyed his omelet and said the fried potatoes were done just right. His meal was also huge. Given that Martson's is known for the french toast - I found it disappointing. OMG! Yummy place for breakfast. The French toast is to die for. Me being from New Orleans near the French quarter takes me back home! Kinda reminds me of the French beignets! Also the sausage is very tasty! I have to worn you on refilling the coffee, it's addicting, and by the 3rd cup, I became jittery and super talkative! Haha! You don't have to eat a whole lot to be filled. Parking is not the best there, but hey that's almost everywhere in Pasadena. This place gets super busy during the weekends. My suggestion is to come during off days like a Tuesday or Thursday before 10am for breakfast. Also the secret is to park at the meter in front which is free before 10am! Oops not a secret anymore! Having breakfast in the patio is a very warm welcome to a new day. I was glad that their server is very polite too. It was a really decent greeting of another day. The food came and everything was still perfect. Then came this woman. I am not sure if she is a waiter because she has a different outfit. Maybe she was late for work. She came to our table and rambled some unpleasant morning remarks, not a greeting at all. Then asked if we need some more, say water. My mouth was still full so I wasn't able to answer her promptly. Insanely fast service. However, the line is quite long, especially on the weekend. Never an empty coffee cup or water glass. If you like your coffee the right color and cream/coffee ratio, put a saucer on the cup, if you look away for a moment, someone will top off your coffee cup without you ever knowing it. The food is decent, but pricey... It is nice when you want something quick. I love all of the decorations on the walls. It makes everything so homey. read more

This was the third time at Marston's. The food was OK. The place is very crowded and that is because of the small space, but we were right next to other table which I could hear everything they were saying. The food was expensive and not that good. I think Lovebirds does a much better job with their omelette's. There was no improvements since the last time I was there, so 3 stars is enough. You just really appreciate if a restaurant serves and uncomplicated items on the menu. So I ordered sandwich and a soup just to fill my stomach. I only had a light lunch as I try to watch out my calorie intake. Then the bill arrived and it really shocked me. I couldn't believe I was paying that amount for the stuff I ordered. The outside patio of this place is very cool. Perfect for breakfast. It feels like a breakfast in England or in Paris. Then when you have the French toast as this place is popular for, you'd really get awake for thinking hard what made people think the French toast was cool. Amazing breakfast place! Food (especially the French Toast) are exceptional and the service is very friendly and helpful. One drawback is the wait (sometimes 20-30 minutes on a Sunday morning), but that's to be expected with such a busy place. However, don't let that deter you from trying Marston's out...just be prepared or arrive earlier. read more

Due to the Covid restrictions in Pasadena, the hotel I was staying in did not offer a breakfast that I found adequate. Luckily, I found Marston's was only a short walk away. They offered dine-in, porch tables, or take-out. The food was wonderful and I will certainly avail myself of their services when I am back in the area. Highly recommend! read more

I saw that this place was voted as one of the best breakfast places in california so that tempted me to try it out. Went with a couple of friends and were not disappointed. I needed the holder of lamb, that was prepared flawlessly and was along with a rejuvenating frisee greens with goat cheeses. We learned that a lot of the dishes were based on family recipes, which only added to the charm! They brought out the most incredible broccoli soup to start off with--rich, creamy, textured, perfectly salted, and paired with the best bread! They also gave us some slices of their pumpkin-walnut bread, which we could have eaten a loaf of! Everyone loved their respective entrees, which all were huge portion sizes. I thoroughly enjoyed the charbroiled burger topped with avocado, bacon, swiss cheese, tomatoes, white onions, and thousand island sauce with a flavorful dill pickle and a delicious side of refreshingly crisp and slightly sweet cole slaw. The Tuna Marco was a huge hit as well-- a delightful tuna salad, with tomato, lettuce, and swiss cheese on a soft, buttery croissant. My partner also raved about the Salmon Salad, which featured perfectly cooked, fresh, succulent charbroiled salmon atop a bed of mixed greens, tomatoes, capers, and onions, drizzled with a bright balsamic vinaigrette. Our discerning toddler also did a happy dance and ate a surprisingly large portion of her kids meal bean and rice burrito with a side of rice. Then for dessert, we had an entire chocolate velvet cream cake, which was four layers of heaven. This dessert was light, not too sweet, and really hit the spot. I could eat that every night! All around, I couldn't have asked for a better baby shower. Many thanks to Kathleen and her team for making it such a special afternoon.
