This was place was a surpise hit! I chose it as our breakfast spot based on other reviews. We were a group of 9 and had very little wait. Everything was delicious! Portions were generous. We all walked away stuffed. They brought around a sampling of free hummus and pita. It was so yummy! Best hummus I have ever tasted. The omelettes were very fresh and tasty. They were willingly to easily substitute items. The service was impeccable. We were well taken care of. We will be back for sure in the future. Highly recommend it! read more

Not like the old days. The eggs Benedict was $17. Way over priced. English muffin not toasted. Canadian bacon like out of an Oscar Meyer package. No sear. Look at the plate itself in my pic. Potatoes not totally fresh. This place used to be packed. Not now. Otis Marston sold it a while ago and it was ok for a bit. Not now. Skip it. Entire menu over priced. read more

Wow this place has really gone downhill. I used to wait in line 30+ minutes 5-6 years ago. 7-grain pancakes were my go-to but there were no grains, and texture was rubbery. I wasn't surprised that prices have increased since then, but they snuck in a "credit card fee". read more

Breakfast today at Marston's. I ordered the 1/2 order of the Macadamia Nut pancakes for $11.45 and an order of bacon for $7.25 and coffee for $4.95. The coffee was good, but not worth $5. The pancakes (2) were luke warm and served with a liitle cup of cold syrup. I had to ask for more syrup two times. Basically two regular pancakes with macadamia nuts sprinkled on top. The bacon was served crisp (the way I like it ) but not worth $7.25. I asked for a 1/2 order of bacon, however they refused. Wait staff nice but rushed due to crowd waiting. The ambience very nice and cozy! For the money, I think I will skip breakfast here and continue to eat lunch when i am in town. read more

Of all the wonderful breakfast restaurants in Pasadena, Marston's on Walnut Street (on the edge of Old Pasadena across the street from Memorial Part) reigns supreme. "I GET" that a lot of people don't want to deal with the limited parking... "I GET" that it is not located in the heart of Old Pasadena, on Colorado or Lake. But what "I GET" at Marston's time after time is a wonderful breakfast served by a staff that have been there for as long as I can remember! While Russel's is good and Urth Cafe is artsy, Marston's delivers a combination of food and ambiance that will nostalgically remind you of better times and a slower, more peaceful time. When it comes to Marston's, the walk down memory lane is as good as the food! read more

This place a a dingy dark filthy greasy piece of sh_t. Just look up at the ceiling and behold what you'd imagine a crack house to look like. They've packed the place with so many tables (to make profit) you can barely move. There's no ventilation. The prices are designed to steal your money and leave you bewildered asking why you ever stepped foot in this sh__ihole. I wanted a side of bacon and it was $7.25! I wanted two eggs and some eggs $20! Remember, you'll be sitting in a rat infested old house on fIng walnut st. It's not overlooking the Pacific Ocean it's overlooking nothing.. The owner is reaping in your cash probably living in a massive home overlooking the rose bowl while I'm paying $70 plus to have the worst greasiest piece of crap breakfast with my wife. My advice: Go to Russel's on fair oaks. You won't regret it. read more

Socially distanced outdoor seating in their parking lot under an easy up.. Service was excellent and food was decent. I'd like to mention almost bland. It's great for guest that like to add their own spice. I like Tabasco & ketchup on my eggs and potatoes. The food portions are good and you get free baklava w/yelp check in. We also reviewed a coupon for 10% off dinner which is new for them. I plan on using the coupon and checking out what dinner service has to bring. I had the Pulled Pork Benedict and my husband had the Texas Chili Omelette. I only ate half and husband finished his meal. read more

Yes I would and will come back but as a first timer the experience wasn't spectacular. Given the French toast was so incredible..if it wasn't for that plate I would not be giving it a three star. Nor would I ever go back.. I ordered the Egg Benedict with potato's and most of the meals do come with potato's.. in a realness,I received burnt potato skins... the waitress even was like yea that's not cool. Why did you serve it ? Anyways we also asked for egg white and we got regular on an omelet that tasted like rubber. Nothin fancy.. Go for the French toast and that's about it read more

I enjoyed my food it was simple but tasty. It was nice place the host was a very nice young man, very accommodating. He took care of everyone fairly and as quickly as he could. The problem solely rested at the feet of our waitress Tiffany who walked right past us to a table who had just been seated and proceeded to take their order even after I told her we were there first and had been waiting longer than we needed to be. I hesitated with what I was feeling until I watched her do the exact same thing to another couple who fit our exact description, 2 Black people. I took notice of the other side of the room where the waitress was taking very good care of all of her customers she even popped over to make sure we were ok. Marstons is a nice place just don't get stuck with Tiffany and it was quite clear that her co-workers knew she was the problem. 3 stars because customer service is important and I can't imagine that the boss hasn't heard about her poor behavior. read more

No frills. But who needs those when they make a BLTA that will rock your socks off? Freshest ingredients, heirloom tomato, perfect spread of deli mustard. I could go on but just take it from me- I'm as picky as they come. read more

This cute and quaint cottage style restaurant was just what I needed to kick off my birthday. I went here for brunch and enjoyed a delicious meal. My French toast was a bit too sweet for my linking. Not sure what it was battered in, but the fruit, nuts and whipped cream were my favorite part of the dish. There is very limited parking. I waited a good 10-15 minutes for someone to pull out so I could get a spot. There is outdoor seating here, which I preferred. The inside is a bit cramped, and for a Monday midday, this place was packed! I wasn't a fan of the mimosa. I hope that wasn't how all mimosas taste on the west coast. It was very bland. Other than that, everything else was great: the food, the service and the atmosphere get two thumbs up! read more

I stopped by for lunch on a Friday. Beautiful day so I sat on the front porch (feels like your sitting on a residential porch). First time here, a little dated on the inside. I had the Rio grande tuna melt. It was very good, not fishy at all. The bread for some reason had a slight French toast flavor to it on the crust, possibly a slight cinnamon? First time dining here (so many places to go)& we're glad we found this quaint cottage like place to eat breakfast . It's quiet (compared to other "loud" joints ) & the food is equally good! Never knew this place existed! We had been driving by this place for years without realizing it! We came for weekend brunch. What I liked: - The Works - this has to be one of their most popular items, for good reason. Really delicious and a must for brunch - Quick seating during brunch in Pasadena is hard to come by! A huge plus - nice staff, a few personable folks! However, I knocked off stars because my husband's pulled pork benedict was subpar and I did have to proactively flag a server every time I wanted a coffee refill. I also wish I didn't need to pay extra for fruit instead of potatoes, and we had a few bill mix ups that needed to be corrected. read more

Homemade cooking and home style atmosphere is the main concept here. The decor has a seventies feel like an episode of All in the Family. Along with a coffee counter and a front porch this is a nifty little breakfast spot. I started off with the Benedict with pulled pork. The plate came with a nice portion of their famous potatoes that were mildly spicy with a hint of garlic to follow. The pulled pork had a sweet aftertaste to compliment the combo. Their regular breakfast platter was also a tasty treat.This one had the usual fixings but came with gorgeous pieces of slightly burnt and fatty bacon that had me jonesing for more.The service was on point like a bee looking for nectar and always checking in. The parking is a little tight but one can find plenty across the street along side the park. Marston's is a quaint little brunch spot located inside of a repurposed cottage. On weekends, be prepared to wait a while for a table. Parking is a bit of a challenge here as well. The lot is usually full so you'll probably have to resort to street parking a block or two away. They offer the typical brunch assortment of omelettes, pancakes, and egg dishes. Yes, the French toast is rolled in Corn Flakes, but I'm personally not a fan of this dish. The texture is weird and gritty due to the crushed cereal, which ruins the milky, custardy texture that I'm used to in traditional French toast. I don't know, maybe it's a personal preference thing? I couldn't get on board with it. Prices are a bit steep considering the lack of innovation. I wouldn't consider the food here mind-blowing, but it's a solid spot if you're feeling like having some good ol' fashioned eggs and potatoes. read more

This review is really focused on their vegetarian friendly (or lack thereof) attitude, so if you are a carnivore, feel free to skip to the next review. Marstons has been our 'go to' breakfast location in Pasadena when we are in the area (another one of those places I'm surprised I've never reviewed). Its homey, service has been good, food has been decent, and we've enjoyed the ambiance. Our last visit, they had a midweek breakfast special menu. Seven or eight items, one vegetarian option...and a veggie omelette with *bacon* as a side. I asked if I could get the veggie omelette with the lower cost side of potatoes instead of bacon. It was pointed out the menu stated no substitutions (which it did), and they were most adamant about not making any exceptions. Certainly they as a restaurant have the right to do so, but why have a veggie meal with meat as a side? With no option to make the meal friendly to vegetarians? I was offered the option to make it veggie by omitting the meat (but still paying for it). We are past that, and done with Marston's as well. Sage vegan bistro is around the corner and will become our new Pasadena breakfast spot. read more

My family has been coming here for years now. Marstons has always been our go to favorite breakfast spot. Unfortunately this last year something has changed. The food and service has decided. Today we went for breakfast. It was not busy but our server was a space cadet and had that " I don't care " attitude. Items ordered were forgotten then eventually arrived late. My husband's omelet was lacking. And, our favorite breakfast potatoes were subpar which was a major disappointment. We absolutely loved the breakfast potatoes here but they clearly aren't being made the same. Absolutely no love added to the food anymore. Time to find a new spot. read more

How many ways and then how many languages can you say yummy yummy yummy yummy yummy. What a great little café. The staff was great the place was Homie and comfortable the food was absolutely satisfying. Don't miss the macadamia nut pancakes. They are truly special. The eggs Benedict Florentine was really tasty as well. Would definitely come back and chow down again. Truly looks like they have a dedicated local clientele which is always a good sign for a great place to eat. read more

Even though the breakfast was good, there were some issues. Their menu says fresh orange juice, which costs $7, but they pour orange juice out of a plastic 1 gallon container, and they confirmed that it was not squeezed there. One of the waitresses still insisted it was fresh. They charge approximately $5 for a simple side of toast. My omelette was $19. Kids' breakfast prices seem okay, but then you realize you're paying $8 for the pancakes and have to pay another $8 for the eggs, bacon, and potatoes. They don't tell you, but if you look at your receipt, you see they charge a 2% credit card processing fee. With prices like theirs, they don't need to charge the extra 2%. Many of the waitresses were not professional. They kept telling each other to go home (at 10 a.m.). The more aggressive ones wanted to make sure they got to stay and make money on the tips without compromising to anyone who would be willing to leave. Their parking lot was full and all street parking was metered parking, and the parking meters do not accept card payments. All this is a shame, because we have a connection with this place, it having been there for so long and us having gone there over decades. Our waitress was very nice and prompt. We were in a huge hurry and she made sure we were out of there on time. But still, I don't like it when restaurant owners try to take advantage of their customers. The 2% fee for a place like this--unbelievable. read more

This was only the 2nd restaurant we had gone to since the pandemic started. Although we are all fully vaccinated, we are only eating outside and we were still nervous. Unfortunately, a car pulled into the parking lot and the occupants immediately sat down without checking in at the front where we had signed in and were waiting to be seated. Luckily there was still one outside table left. There should be a sign in the parking lot directing guests to the front of the house. Tables were spaced appropriately and most guests kept their masks on when not actively eating. Of course the food and service is wonderful. Overall we felt safe and comfortable. We hope the owners will continue to provide outside seating through 2021. read more

We came after running in the inaugural Pasadena Half Marathon for a well deserved and needed brunch. We were spent after running on a cold, rainy and windy morning and Marston's offered welcome shelter from the elements. The restaurant is pretty small. And parking is very limited. You can either wait for a space or park at a school parking lot a block away. With good weather, a short stroll is not problem. But in pouring rain, the lack of parking was irritating. Despite the elements, there was a wait. We were offered the covered patio for immediate seating. Their was no heat lamps and the space is cramped and partially occupied by people waiting for tables. No thank you. We waited about 20 minutes and had to jostle a little with the hostess to get our table as the last person in our party was parking her car. Like many restaurants their policy is not to seat a table until everyone has arrived which is totally understandable. Once seated the rest of our meal was great. The food came very fast considering how busy they were. My bacon omelet was very satisfying and so scrumptious with the cheese and fresh avocado. I also ordered a blueberry pancake which was perfect! After a slow start, the coffee refill came fast and furious. Had to turn away the last 3 or 4 offers or else I would have to make pit stops on my way home. Overall Marston's is well deserving of its accolades and following. It's as good a place as any for a meal with family and friends but not suitable for a big group. The cottage feel and the rain outside provided a really warm and comfortable setting to celebrate our race. read more

Went on July 4th. Called to ask if they'd still be open when we arrived by 1:30. The guy we spoke to on the phone said they're closing early "because of the holiday" but would still be able to seat us if we arrived in 30 minutes. We arrived at the agreed upon time and they refused to serve us. lol such garbage customer service and food is overpriced. DON'T eat here. read more

We enjoyed a great breakfast at Marston's. I had the Texas chili omelet with cottage cheese instead of their potatoes (although I've heard the potatoes are really good). My wife had a bowl of oatmeal, which was a lot more oatmeal than she expected. Good food, great service. Nice ambiance across from the park. read more

Came to Marston's for brunch but missed it by 6 minutes! 11:36am. Had to settle for lunch and it was just okay in my opinion. I ordered a pretty standard Reuben...and for some reason it was delivered open faced. The hot pastrami, ample sauerkraut, and melty swiss cheese...all made the sandwich a soggy, oily mess. There was no way to pick this up and eat it! So sad! Sandwiches are not fork and knife food! The sweet potato fries were good though. I guess that was a redeeming factor. read more

We're staying at a hotel nearby so the location with parking was great. Unfortunately portions were small for the price. My child wanted pancakes with sides of meat. For him alone, his plate would have been $20-$30 for pancakes with 2 sides of meats. I guess this place would be great for a lite breakfast. If your like my family that on a busy day want a good hearty breakfast to start the day, it's best to look elsewhere. Not to mention we never got a refill on our drinks and had to wait to get our ticket. We won't be back. read more

Such a bummer, used to be great, now it's just expensive! We thought the pancakes were keto because they were so dry and hard. If I'm going to cheat on the diet it has to be worth it but it wasn't. I'm Guessing new ownership because you didn't get quality nor quantity. Breakfast for two at almost seventy bucks should either taste great or leave full for the rest of the day and this place did neither. Looks like COVID took another one... read more

Marston's is pretty good for brunch and breakfast food. My favorite dish to order here are their 7 grain pancakes. These pancakes make me feel slightly healthier and there's a huge amount of fresh fruit toppings. The pancakes are gigantic too! I usually have to take these for leftovers. They have nice omelettes as well. Their French toast is extremely popular and probably their most well known dish. I think it's good but too thick and crunchy for me. On weekdays it isn't an issue getting a table, however like most brunch places, on weekends there are sometimes lines. I think their food is solid so I'd be willing to wait maybe 30min, but beyond that, you can easily go to another place. Another FYI, the restaurant is very small so sometimes it can feel a bit claustrophobic eating in there read more

I was the first customer here in the official change in LA county Covid status. It use to be pretty innovative, using avocado on eggs 20 years ago was novel. Now, sadly, it's a shadow of its former self. The huevos rancheros was very pedestrian if not on the low end of the spectrum of ok. Canned black beans all over several corn tortillas covering 2 eggs and a blob of sour cream. The Pico de Gallo was bland. It's heyday has passed... there are too many good breakfast places now. Don't settle for this. Go here in a pinch. Management has to keep up with the times or they'll be closed soon. Sorry but true. My friends scrambled eggs can be made by anyone. French the eggs at least so there's no clumping. read more

Made a reservation about an hour before, so when we got there we were seated immediately. After a quick glance at the drink menu, had to get the Mai Tai with lilikoi foam on top. So delicious. Had my first lilikoi foam in Maui and I love that I'm starting to see it around Los Angeles now. Adds such a punch of flavor to an after we balanced drink. For food, we started with the bacon deviled eggs and shrimp taquitos. Those deviled eggs were lightly fried, which was different, then had apple wood smoked bacon on top, just a really tasty bite. The shrimp taquitos were also not what you would expect, nice and light but still very good. Entrees we went with the center cut fillet and the prime rib dip with swiss cheese on a brioche bun. That sandwich just melts if your mouth after dipping it in the jous, and the cheese was the perfect accompiament. The fillet was cooked perfect as well, coming out medium rare. Overall, great restaurant in Pasadena. Definitely get the Mai Tai, Devine eggs and prime rib dip. Taquitos were good and, if you're feeling like another hg er appetizer, definitely a way to go . We ended up at Magnolia House for a late lunch/early dinner. They also serve breakfast/brunch only on weekends. Walked in around 4:30pm and we were greeted by Brian, one of the managers. Brian was the standout star of the whole experience! His energy was exceptional and he is such a great conversationalist. He checked on us several times throughout our meal and made sure we were doing well. He on his own was HANDS DOWN a five star human being. At first, he wanted to seat us in the back corner but I told him the table was too small and he accommodated us with a bigger table. Our server Kiana came up to the table with a pleasant smile and greeting to take our drink orders. I got a glass of cranberry juice along with some water. My son got the American Dream cocktail along with some water. We skipped on dessert. From 4-6pm, they have a happy hour menu with some of their cocktails and shareable plates. The portions are just a bit smaller and the prices are a little lower. It's a good way to sample different items. I think we got a good variety of food to enjoy. To start, we got the Little Gem Salad. It was such a unique combination of flavors and SUPER delicate/light. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The next starter was the Zucchini and Feta Fritters, which was good but not the best out of everything else we ordered. The zucchini was a bit mushy but the batter it was fried in was crispy. Another starter we shared were the Moroccan Spiced Chicken Wings. These wings are gigantic and very flavorful. They definitely pack some heat, so be careful. I don't think the A/C was NOT working to begin with, so the place was already hot. The wings made us sweat even more. For entrées, we got the burger and the pork belly. Brian said they are known for their burger and after taking the first bite, it's clear as to why. It was absolutely PERFRCTION. So delicious! The bun, the meat, the cheese, the onions, and the crispy bacon...all of it mixed together into the perfect burger. I had wanted to add some mushrooms and avocado to it, but Kiana said they were unable to do it. I also asked for lettuce and she said that would be an extra charge. What extra charge for lettuce? We still got charged for avocado when the bill came, but they took it off once we mentioned it. The pork belly was also very tender, flavorful, and crispy. It's just hard to compete with the burger! We also got an order of the Belgian Fries to share and we were both pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The fries are salty and cut pretty thick. The sauce that came on the side was so yummy. We asked for a small extra cup to-go. All in all, the food was great and we liked everything. The vibe of the restaurant wasn't really all that for me. Brian genuinely made up for anything that was lacking in the atmosphere. He is such a wonderful asset to the restaurant and their company. The restaurant itself has been here for about 15 years now and it used to be a very old house. You can tell when you look around. They did a good job with the renovations, but you can see the different areas/rooms. I think they tried to keep the casual comfort of a home, while making it a slightly elevated experience. It was very clean everywhere, especially the bathrooms. They have one gender neutral bathroom, one for men, and one for women. No private parking, so you'll have to park on the street and put money in the kiosk. They also had an outdoor seating. Pretty BIG, only took picture of one side. They also have 2 small TVs. In the bar area and inside their cute lounge. I normally like to try new places, especially when I'm in Pasadena, so I'm not sure if I'll come back here. We also ordered a boulevardier and espresso martini. The pork and chicken were so tender and flavorful! My espresso martini tasted like a smooth liquid dessert . Very loud inside. My husband could barely hear me. Curious about the rooftop seating so maybe a reservation for up there next time, maybe I'll get to try the peri peri chicken. Highly recommend!

I also ordered the sea bass. The fish was good, but the sauce and vegetables lacked flavor depth. The drinks were also great. I got the berry mojito mocktail - it was one of the best mocktails I had. I also really enjoyed the candied eggplant. It had a great contrast of textures and a slightly sweet, caramelized flavor that made it very addictive. The braised sea cucumber with beef tendon was another standout. Both the sea cucumber and tendon were cooked until tender and soaked up the savory sauce beautifully. We also had fresh uni and eel, and everything was presented with a lot of attention to detail. The ingredients tasted fresh, the flavors were well balanced, and the entire meal felt thoughtfully prepared rather than simply being about presentation. Service throughout the evening was excellent as well. Everyone was attentive and made us feel very well taken care of. I've been to Panda Inn before, but this customized dinner was truly a different experience. Beautiful presentation, thoughtful dishes, and a very memorable evening. This is a average to good place for breakfast. Tried the 3 most popular dishes - Eggs Benedict, The Californian Omelette, and the Fantastic French Toast (sourdough). The Eggs Benedict are good, and that's because the eggs are cooked just right. When you cut the egg in half, you can just see the yolk slowly oozing out of the egg. And when you take a bite, you'll notice that the flavor of the ham complements the eggs well, giving you a blend of balanced flavors. $12-$13 The Californian Omelette was good too. I was a little disappointed because my omelette was a little overcooked. But the pork in the omelette was good. $12-$13 The Fantastic French Toast (Sourdough) wasn't too good. But that's probably because it was sourdough. The other types of bread like wheat look like it'd taste better. $8 And the orange juice was great in that it was fresh squeezed, but what we got really weren't the best oranges that got squeezed. They were "ok" oranges...seemed like they weren't the best oranges out of the batch. And it was $5 a glass. not worth it. Went here on a Friday morning at around 10:30. My friend and I were seated immediately. I called for a reservation but the lady told me it's first come first serve. Restaurant looks like a typical house from outside and has a very cozy feeling that comes along with it. Received our food within 10 minutes. Had the eggs benedict with the special potatoes. Delicious except for the potatoes. I personally love plain, crispy hash browns and was surprised they didn't have it. The potatoes had the skins, mixed with onions and bellpeppers. I barely chewed down my frist bite. Not my type but obviously others like it. My friend had the hevos rancheras (breakfast item) or something like that. She liked it. Thought the tortilla under should have been crispy but finished the entire meal. Friendly staff. Refilled coffee all the time and checked on how we were doing twice within 30 minutes. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE. OMG. WOW. I LOVE YOU GUYS!! My bestie brought me here for lunch on Monday. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. Of course we had some wine, which was quite refreshing. We split the Cordierra Salad. THAT SALAD IS THE BOMB.COM I could totally eat it every day. There was not a scrap of lettuce left behind on that plate, when we were done. We also split a sandwich, that was on the special board but I can not remember the name of it. All I know is it was delicious. Once we were done, we were like hey, we should order the same thing over, to go, because it was sooooo goood. The servers were friendly and fast. The place was clean and cozy. The chairs were comfortable, the ambience was just perfect. I would TOTALLY recommend stopping in. I'd heard for years about Martson's french toast. Marston's is a well known breakfast and brunch spot that I'd heard about for years, but never managed to get to. Hubby and I finally did. The french toast starts with thick slices of sourdough bread that's dipped in egg, then rolled in cornflakes before it is fried. The portions are huge, the bacon crispy, and the fruit very fresh. But the french toast tasted like it had been cooked in oil that had previously fried fish. It was quite unpleasant. The coffee was ok. My brother enjoyed his omelet and said the fried potatoes were done just right. His meal was also huge. Given that Martson's is known for the french toast - I found it disappointing. OMG! Yummy place for breakfast. The French toast is to die for. Me being from New Orleans near the French quarter takes me back home! Kinda reminds me of the French beignets! Also the sausage is very tasty! I have to worn you on refilling the coffee, it's addicting, and by the 3rd cup, I became jittery and super talkative! Haha! You don't have to eat a whole lot to be filled. Parking is not the best there, but hey that's almost everywhere in Pasadena. This place gets super busy during the weekends. My suggestion is to come during off days like a Tuesday or Thursday before 10am for breakfast. Also the secret is to park at the meter in front which is free before 10am! Oops not a secret anymore! Having breakfast in the patio is a very warm welcome to a new day. I was glad that their server is very polite too. It was a really decent greeting of another day. The food came and everything was still perfect. Then came this woman. I am not sure if she is a waiter because she has a different outfit. Maybe she was late for work. She came to our table and rambled some unpleasant morning remarks, not a greeting at all. Then asked if we need some more, say water. My mouth was still full so I wasn't able to answer her promptly. Insanely fast service. However, the line is quite long, especially on the weekend. Never an empty coffee cup or water glass. If you like your coffee the right color and cream/coffee ratio, put a saucer on the cup, if you look away for a moment, someone will top off your coffee cup without you ever knowing it. The food is decent, but pricey... It is nice when you want something quick. I love all of the decorations on the walls. It makes everything so homey. read more

This was the third time at Marston's. The food was OK. The place is very crowded and that is because of the small space, but we were right next to other table which I could hear everything they were saying. The food was expensive and not that good. I think Lovebirds does a much better job with their omelette's. There was no improvements since the last time I was there, so 3 stars is enough. You just really appreciate if a restaurant serves and uncomplicated items on the menu. So I ordered sandwich and a soup just to fill my stomach. I only had a light lunch as I try to watch out my calorie intake. Then the bill arrived and it really shocked me. I couldn't believe I was paying that amount for the stuff I ordered. The outside patio of this place is very cool. Perfect for breakfast. It feels like a breakfast in England or in Paris. Then when you have the French toast as this place is popular for, you'd really get awake for thinking hard what made people think the French toast was cool. But as I said, the ambiance was really a perfect morning setting. Maybe just order something else so you'd enjoy your breakfast more. read more

Good place for brunch!! I had a breakfast sandwich with the house potatoes that hit the spot. Seating was good for my party of 7 and my waitress was very tentative. We did not wait long for our food and had not one problem with anything. The parking was either in front on the street or the small lot right next to Marston's. Amazing breakfast place! Food (especially the French Toast) are exceptional and the service is very friendly and helpful. One drawback is the wait (sometimes 20-30 minutes on a Sunday morning), but that's to be expected with such a busy place. However, don't let that deter you from trying Marston's out...just be prepared or arrive earlier. read more

Due to the Covid restrictions in Pasadena, the hotel I was staying in did not offer a breakfast that I found adequate. Luckily, I found Marston's was only a short walk away. They offered dine-in, porch tables, or take-out. The food was wonderful and I will certainly avail myself of their services when I am back in the area. Highly recommend! read more

I saw that this place was voted as one of the best breakfast places in california so that tempted me to try it out. Went with a couple of friends and were not disappointed. French toast and eggs benedict were perfect. Price is not the cheapest but not too bad either. I would definitely come back and try other things on their menu. read more

I needed the holder of lamb, that was prepared flawlessly and was along with a rejuvenating frisee greens with goat cheeses. My eating partner experienced the corn soups -- a puree with plenty of corn taste plus some bacon and mushrooms. She also experienced the salmon, which she appreciated. read more

Kathleen and her team warmly welcomed us into the private room next to the main dining area. They had prepared a wonderful menu for the party to select from and throughout the afternoon floated in and out refreshing everyone's drinks. We learned that a lot of the dishes were based on family recipes, which only added to the charm! They brought out the most incredible broccoli soup to start off with--rich, creamy, textured, perfectly salted, and paired with the best bread! They also gave us some slices of their pumpkin-walnut bread, which we could have eaten a loaf of! Everyone loved their respective entrees, which all were huge portion sizes. I thoroughly enjoyed the charbroiled burger topped with avocado, bacon, swiss cheese, tomatoes, white onions, and thousand island sauce with a flavorful dill pickle and a delicious side of refreshingly crisp and slightly sweet cole slaw. The Tuna Marco was a huge hit as well-- a delightful tuna salad, with tomato, lettuce, and swiss cheese on a soft, buttery croissant. My partner also raved about the Salmon Salad, which featured perfectly cooked, fresh, succulent charbroiled salmon atop a bed of mixed greens, tomatoes, capers, and onions, drizzled with a bright balsamic vinaigrette. Our discerning toddler also did a happy dance and ate a surprisingly large portion of her kids meal bean and rice burrito with a side of rice. Then for dessert, we had an entire chocolate velvet cream cake, which was four layers of heaven. This dessert was light, not too sweet, and really hit the spot. I could eat that every night! All around, I couldn't have asked for a better baby shower. Many thanks to Kathleen and her team for making it such a special afternoon. My only complaint is they threw in a couple of strips of pork belly. That kind of gave you an uneven bite in the sandwich, not to mention that the belly strips were rather tough and chewy. The menu is varied enough to make me want to try this spot again, so a pretty good time was had by all.
