While staying at the Westin Las Vegas Lake Spa & Resort my husband, son and I, had been traveling all day and we're looking forward to a fine dining experience. We showed up at Marssa shortly after it opened. There was only one other table occupied when we got there. The hostess explained that she was new and she was waiting for the other hostess to come over and seat us. We only waited a moment and we were escorted next to the other table that was full. We had a nice, Lake view. They forgot to bring over a highchair so we asked one of the servers to. They obliged kindly and right away. Not shortly after that we were approached by our server who took our drink menu. At first it appears that they don't have a full bar, but they can get anything from the bar adjacent to the restaurant. I had discovered the most amazing Sauvignon Blanc. It's called Illumination. It was $17 for one small glass but it was actually well worth it. My husband ordered a bourbon on the rocks. We started out with a truffle salmon and scallops as well as a spicy tuna roll for appetizers. After that, my husband and I shared the beef wok. Everything was delicious, fair portions, fine dining/hotel prices on the higher end. Good service. Our server let us know that he was having problems with the receipt printing so we did have to wait a few moments for that, but it wasn't anything extra. Unfortunately we did not try any dessert. We will be back! What an excellent restaurant! I'm so happy I finally got to try this restaurant, it has been on my list of places to eat for a hot minute and they did not disappoint! We were starving and our server Luis was very helpful on his suggestions on what is popular and delicious! We ordered the sashimi salad, which to my surprise was not a regular sashimi salad it was really fresh and delicious! Tiger roll is a must The crunchy roll was fab as well! The honey walnut shrimp was Devine! Not only in regards to presentation but also flavor profiles everything was on point! Now lets get to the dessert - the end of the meal is the absolute most important part of the meal and they hit the nail the molten lava cake was decadent and the donuts with the banana foster cream was fresh and light. Great combo! Try their sake cocktails as well! You won't be disappointed! There was only 2 dissapointing factors in regards to our meal they were out of the Yuzu cheesecake and Cajun Albacore- I guess that just means we will just have to come back lol - happily :) read more

Just had my birthday dinner here and reviewing right away. Great food, nice ambience, very classy but over priced. The food presentation was appealing, the food quality is great and everything tasted fresh. The portions are small for the price you pay. That said, the portions were enough for us. Service was pretty fast for a fine dining classy place. Awesome place for date nights. Servers were friendly but we felt like they weren't very happy today. Highly recommend the spicy garlic edmame. It was terrific, super flavorful. The sauces, oil, garlic flavor was just perfect. The black sea bass with a side of wok vegetables was good, but way too over priced. A medium size fillet was priced around 40-50$ and was served with only 5-6 small veggies. The bass was bland to mild flavor. Fried rice was not that impressive. We were served an extra bowl of vegetables and these veggies were really flavorful, I especially loved the burnt smoky flavor they had. Shrimp tempuras were good, nothing special though. Got 5 of them in one order priced at about 17$. Marssa is a good choice if staying at Westin and you want to dine on-site or if staying at Lake Las Vegas. I wouldn't drive all the way from elsewhere just to dine here though. read more

The service was a bit slow. Tables could be cleaning around the trimmings, there's old food and crusted rice that were hidden between the glass cracks. We went with a party of 7 and the servers were nice. But it could of been better we waited too long until they took our order, after we ordered our drinks. Food also took longer than expected. We were literally there as the last customer. Dinner reservation was at 7p. Food was good but nothing that will significantly bring me back and try again. We spent nearly $600 and was not as content. The view atmosphere ambiance was nice. Could be cleaner and more portions on food and quality. read more

My husband and I went here for date night this past Saturday. The restaurant was very nice and had amazing views of the lake and the beautiful homes on the hills. The customer service was great! Our waitress, servers and host were all very nice. Food was good despite being disappointed by the wagyu ribeye. We ordered the tiger roll for our appetizer, Wagyu ribeye, wasabi mashed potatoes, mushroom medley and honey walnut shrimp for our entree and malasada for our dessert. My husband also ordered a bourbon mule (I think it was bourbon). The tiger roll was delicious! The wagyu ribeye was not worth the price. We asked for it to be cooked medium but it came out a little over. It was lacking flavor and we thought the size was very small. They provided us with yuzu butter, teriyaki dip and chimichurri to eat with the steak so it tasted a lot better with that. The mashed potatoes and mushrooms were delicious!! Wasabi in the mash was not overbearing at all and the flavor of the mushrooms was amazing! The walnut shrimp was also great! The maladadas were good but not great. My husband didn't like his drink. It was supposed to be a mule but the ginger beer was flat so it didn't have that fizz you look forward too while drinking a mule. The reason why I'm only rating this place 3 stars is because the wagyu should've been the star of our dinner but that was the only thing we regret ordering. It wasn't worth the price. When you insist on going to this restaurant, making your mom spend $160 for the WORST meal we had during our 4 day Vegas trip, you feel pretty bad. Miso cod was "fishy," wok beef was oily, fatty, and chewy, SWIMMING (half the large bowl was filled) in watery stir fry sauce, and the blandest miso soup on earth. How can you make already pretty bland soup 100x's more bland? If I was the chef that approved this food to go out I'd question my career choice. Why I didn't complain and insist they take at LEAST one of the mains off the bill, I'll never know. Restaurant is pretty with a great view, so there's where I'll give it a star! read more

This is hands down the best overall dining experience you can have in Lake Las Vegas. The chefs at the Westin are meticulous and their post-covid opening has been a smash hit with big improvements to the menu. The vibe is pan Asian meets seafood. If I would have stuck to the first two visits I had here this place would have had a five for me but this last time wasn't a good one. Marssa changed their look since the last time I had visited and they did a great job with that. We came in and got the: Rib eye steak it was really fatty and my boyfriend noticed that as well. The flavor was different from the previous two experiences and that was dissapointing. Espessially due to the fact that when we came in the previous times and it was $42 and this time it was $48 so I felt like we paid more for lower quality. Duck breast I didn't find anything wrong with the duck it was super delicious but then again I don't have much experience with duck to base it off. My boyfriend wasn't much impressed with the duck but I was. Shishito pepper I feel like you can never go wrong with this appetizer. The peppers are delicious and they make it just right that you just taste the pepper not to much of the spice. We usually got it for the happy hour but they also raised the price from $27 to $33 dollars and we wanted just two of the items so we just bought them separately. Seafood don or sushi don I'm not to sure the name it was one or the other another new item. It consisted of sashimi and a bowl of rice and it was delicious I do recommend. They also have changed their hours it seems they open at 5pm so thus happy hour has changed to 5-6pm. I'm hoping it was an off day but it seemed like this was the new norm for the place. It was very slow service too we had to wait about 20 minutes for our check which I found odd because usually found it to be quicker service on a Friday when you would believe it to be slower. Restaurant Week has really proven its worth and shown me two great restaurants that I probably would have never experienced before. I almost want to keep this place to myself, but I have to talk about it because it really was that good! Marssa is located in the Loews Las Vegas Resort which is further out than the MonteLago Village of Lake Las Vegas. We thought we had missed the hotel since we were driving along for awhile. Loews Las Vegas is a hidden gem of a resort and I'm glad we found ourselves there. Their Restaurant Week menu offered you a choice among two starters, two entrees, and two desserts. Luckily, the Big F and I agree on one really important thing, and that's food. We easily decided to try the whole menu. Just as we were about to put in our order, our waiter came by and told us they were out of hamachi. That definitely put a damper on things and we looked over what we could substitute with hamachi. As we perused over all the different rolls and sushi, the waiter came back and said they found more! Yay! Service continued being a little quirky when steak knives soon appeared and an entrée consisting of beef arrived in front of me. When a second steak showed up in front of the Big F, we knew something was wrong. We motioned to a waiter (not our original one), and told him we didn't think these were our entrees. Our waiter swiftly took them away (as they were $100 pieces of steak)! Then the Big F noticed some discussion going on at a nearby table and had a feeling that they received our starters. Indeed, that is what happened! All was sorted out and we finally got our meal! Starters, choice of: * Sashimi Trio "cajun seared albacore, garlic ponzu sauce; togarashi seared tuna yuzu miso sauce; and yellowtail asian pico del gallo" - Two pieces of sashimi each and what makes this fish different is their unique and complementing sauces. They had us scooping up all the sauce we could! or * Sushi Sampler "4 pieces hamachi verde: (yellowtail, scallions, Thai chilis topped with cilantro, and thinly sliced limes) and 2 pieces temari scallop (slices of tuna around spicy sea scallops with wasabi flying fish roe and wasabi aioli)." - The hamachi verde is a refreshing sushi roll with the lime slices, but it's the temari scallop roll that was the real winner. We really enjoyed the scallop and wasabi aioli, it had us wanting more! Entrees, choice of: * Miso Braised Kobe Short Rib "shiitake mushrooms, grilled asparagus, crisp maui onions" - One of their most popular dishes, and you can easily see why. The morsels of meat were gently braised and quite delicious. The buttery mashed potatoes were just fattening and oh-so good! A heavy dish indeed! or * Opakapaka Lau Lau "coconut ginger cream, kobocha squash and banana chutney." - Beautifully presented where they 'release' the banana leaves to showcase the hidden secrets that lay within. I'm not one for cooked fish, but this was extraordinary. Not dry at all, and the sweetness from the banana chutney adds a completely new dimension to it. I would go back and order this again for sure! Desserts, choice of: * Chocolate Lava Cake - A molten center with lovely sauces and fresh berries that come with it. or *Asian Pear Tart - Oh my gawd delicious. So good that it's not worth sharing. The tart is flaky and light, and the asian pears are sweet and just perfect. And the sauces that come with it only add to the happy hum in your mouth. Worth driving out this way just for a slice of heaven. It's definitely one of my favorite desserts ever. You probably saw me licking the plate! Our waiter forgot that we ordered the sake flight, a sampling of four sakes ($19). And when we told him midway through our meal that he could just forget about it, he decided instead to give it to us complimentary! The four samples included "shirakaberuga junmai, dewazakura "oka", hoyo "fair maiden", and creme de sake." We did notice that it was hard to find our waiter and it looked understaffed. When we had a chance to chat with the waiter later on, he did confirm that it was understaffed that night, which definitely explains the mix-up with all the food. Despite all the weird service, I'd give Marssa a 4.5. (I'm sure it would be a solid 5 during our return visit. We're told we have to try their Dinner for Two Sushi Platters created by Master Sushi Chef Osama "Fuji" Fujita!) Master Fuji was actually on hand when we left so we got to say hi too! With him being the ONLY master sushi chef in Nevada, how can you resist not sitting in front of him? But if we don't go for sushi, I'd definitely return for their other entrees instead. This is one of my top choices for a nice date restaurant! (And you know pics are posted of this fabulous dinner!) Update! 12/08 - Returned for another fabulous visit. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. This was my choice for Valentines Day diner. This is how you know you had a good diner,...When there isn't one thing you didn't enjoy and everything you tried was really delicious. When it comes to sushi sometimes it's hard to have your taste buds surprised in a good way- this place did just that. The service was what I wish every place to be like! Our sushi came out pretty fast. Our waitress, Natasha was really nice. When we asked what she liked best she didn't just say the most expensive items she mentioned a few different choices. Also every plate we ordered she knew what it was and explained the dish to us when she brought it out! Chef Fuji offers sushi "classes" (sushi and sake sessions). Our dinner orders where so beautiful we're defiantly considering taking a class, I'm sure we'd learn a thing or two! I was reading online that chef Fuji is the only master sushi chef in all of Nevada (this may or may not be true). One fact is that all of our fish was fresh, beautifully prepared, and delicious! The kobe beef short ribs where very savory. Our favorite item was the Tropical Salmon Sushi Roll: tuna, avocado, rolled with salmon, sliced mango, and a squeeze of lemon. The salmon and mango blended in both taste and texture so well, it was a really refreshing sushi roll. We ordered a sake sampler (which was all cold sakes) my favorite was the Shirakabegura Tokubetsu Junmai. If you come here please order the Hamachi/ Yellow Tail that was also one of our favorites. In the pictures you'll see we also got the Bento Box- crispy lobster, kobe satay, edamame dumplings, and chicken yahatamaki. And we got The "Marssa" with all soy paper, which is chef Fuji's specialty sushi and sashimi. It was so nice getting to try all these different bites, and when our waitress Natasha brought it out she knew everything that was in each of his specialties so again that made it more fun to try. Last but not least we ordered ice cream and the chocolate lava for desert. Our dinner came with amuse-gueule of seared hamachi and at the end with chocolate lollipops. We can't wait for patio dining to open up- the view of the lake is nice here and once the patio opens up it'll be even nicer. Lake Las Vegas is a drive if you live on the West side of town but trust me it's completely worth it and really nice break from the city! We'll be coming back here! read more

Spider roll and crunchy eel-4/5- Really good rolls the great thing about this place is the crab they use in the rolls is snow crab.great flavor only thing I can say is I wanted more eel and soft shell crab in my rolls Spicy edamame-3/5-not bad not the best either Sea urchin (uni nigiri) 5/5-super fresh! Very solid food preparation and stellar service. Marssa is the 'high end' restaurant located in the Westin Lake Las Vegas. I brought my girlfriend to this hotel for a very special dinner before a surprise event that I was planning, and the level of food and service was on par with what I was expecting. The restaurant decor is a bit understated and the long, narrow space doesn't exactly command a grand presence, but the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the beautiful Lake Las Vegas created a quiet and elegant atmosphere. After reading through some of the reviews, I felt it was wise to stick with the more traditional entrees, rather than go with their sushi menu. Not to discredit the sushi chef in any way, I've just never been to a restaurant that serves great steak and prepared fish, that also serves impressively good sushi. Maybe being in the middle of the desert had something to do with it as well. I went with their grilled ribeye which came with nicely textured mash potatoes and shishito peppers, while my girl went with the John Dorry cooked Hawaiian Lau Lau Style. The quality of my ribeye was fantastic, and I enjoyed every tender bite of the solid beef flavor. The John Dory was cooked perfectly in banana leaves and served with a delicate yet tasty sauce. Both of our entrees were executed perfectly and were delicious. The service we received was excellent as well. Granted it wasn't very crowded on a Saturday night, but our server was knowledgeable and attentive, while still giving us our space to enjoy our meal. The only slight awkward moment we encountered, was when I ordered my steak well done and he insisted that I get it at least medium well. I actually prefer my steak a nice medium rare, but perhaps there might be reason why someone would order their steak completely cooked. ;) No big deal, just a little food for thought. If you have never been to the Westin Lake Las Vegas, I would highly recommend it on your next trip to Vegas. And if you do stay here, Marssa is the place to dine. We came here expecting to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of Lake Las Vegas, and we were treated to a pretty excellent meal. Thanks Marssa. read more

I had the filet mignon and it was the best steak I've had in probably 5 years! Also to note, the place might have the best Japanese whisky collection in the entire Las Vegas valley, so of course I had to try a few. Next time I am in the area, I am eating there for sure! read more

One star is generous. First, the menu photos on Yelp are outdated. There is no happy hour. Second, our waiter forgot our order! We were with another couple who clearly heard us order our food. He did head our order for 2 miso soups which were room temperature. We returned them and received them warmer! Meanwhile, our friends received their dinner and we waited and waited for our food. We finally asked our waiter where the rest of food and he said that's all we ordered! He did not apologize. The food was good. The service was miserable. No apology. No offer to comp or an offer to give a dessert. Nothing! We will not return. It ruined our dinner as well as our friends. We live in Lake Las Vegas. We will share our experience with our friends. (Husbands review but I concur!) Booked a table for myself and my wife for her birthday dinner celebration. Neither of us had been here before, and from what I saw (reviews, menu), I decided to book through OpenTable. The initial entry and seating were fine. They provided a paper menu for my wife that read "Happy Birthday". They informed us that she could keep it and take it home, as if she were a child and we were at Denny's. Nice gesture, but unsuitable for a "fine dining" establishment. Next, we were greeted by our server, who was very nice, and gave us ample time to decide on drinks and food. We ordered a cocktail and a glass of wine, as well as a couple of appetizers. The quality of our starters was decent, but nothing great or spectacular. When it came time to order dinner, we knew we were in trouble when the server explained his very basic preference between two entrees and could not pronounce the proper name of the ingredients. As a "fine dining" restaurant, the staff here should possess a higher level of culinary knowledge. Upon delivery of our entrees, I noticed that my steak was very under cooked. I ordered a medium ribeye, and received a very rare ribeye. I politely informed the server of the mistake, and had it sent back. He returned about 5 minutes later with my steak, apologized for the mishap, set it down, and left. As soon as I looked at my steak, I noticed that it had not been cooked any longer than before. I immediately became upset , and when he came back, I informed him that the steak was still very rare. I told him that I did not want it, and had him take it away. Long story short, I did not get to eat dinner with my wife for her birthday. This restaurant (with STEAK as the second word in their name) was unable to cook a ribeye to a basic standard. We talked with the manager, and he informed us that the next time we come in, dinner would be on him. Thanks, but no thanks. There are about a million great steak houses in Vegas. I'm kicking off this review by saying that the Weston on Lake Las Vegas is such a cool hotel. Marssa falls right in line with that statement. We (my girlfriend and I) chose Sushi, which was truthfully delicious. The prices were slightly inflated, but that's typical for a hotel in my opinion! So this particular hotel has an outdoor seating area, just outside the restaurant that overlooks Lake Las Vegas. The seating area includes multiple fire pits! Love it! We plan to go back! read more

This place may be quite a drive for many, but it is certainly worth the drive. I would highly advise to order the sashimi. I'm not really sure why you would go to a specialty restaurant for fish and order the steak at least I never do. I did see the steak orders at tables near us and I didn't find myself wanting to order them. Hence the reason why I only gave it a four-star. Also I would say it is pretty pricey. The sashimi is extremely fresh and what the chef does with the little condiments is amazing. Be prepared to open up your wallet you will spend $25 for about five pieces, but it is delicious! We will be back for another special occasion of course. read more

My wife and I took her parents to this restaurant and although my FIL had the lamb chops and loved them, the (3) of us had the "Ribeye". The Miso soup was wonderful, as well as the edamame, and shrimp tempura. I also ordered (2) pcs of Sake sashimi (Salmon) and for $9 they were extremely small pcs. But they tasted great so I didn't complain. Worth mentioning was the Wasabi mashed. It was unique and tasted great also. Mostly it was the Ribeye that upset me, my wife and my MIL. I went ahead and snapped a picture of it so you can see the lack of marbling. The entire flank steak was like this with the exception of some fat around the edges of the steak. It lacked taste which meant I needed more of the side sauce that came with it, which did have an amazing and unique taste as well. Mostly, it was the steak that is the cause of this review. Everything else was above-average. I even asked the waiter if this was a Ribeye steak and he said that it was. I've had Ribeye steaks in just about every state in this great country and this was by far the worst I've ever had, if indeed it was a Ribeye. Afterward, the waiter offered complimentary drinks for the table which we declined (except one person). In case you're wondering, yes, I did tip the waiter more than 20% for his efforts. He shouldn't have to suffer for his employers inferior supply chain. Marssa, we won't be back but we wish you the best of luck in finding another steak supplier. Best wishes. read more

Totally mixed feelings about this place. On one hand, the short-ribs (recommended by the waiter) that I had was excellent. Some of the best I have ever had... Perfectly cooked, the Okinawan sweet potato mash wonderful, the pickled vegetables excellent. The cost was pretty outrageous. Yes we are trapped here (if you don't want to drive), and there aren't that many choices... Don't expect to get out of here cheap. Literally, our dinner was more than our 2-day stay! Service was super slow. Quite frankly to get seated, ordered, and eat took nearly 2-hours. We were starving, the kids were cranky... It was just plain slow, considering we had sashimi, sushi, fried rice, and short ribs (which had to already been cooked)... Its also not a very large restaurant which makes me question... why so slow? Also we thought our host (not waiter) was rather rude. True we did not have a reservation, however, when paying what we paid, you would think service would be better or at least nicer. While the food was excellent, I think if we stay at the Westin, that we will just take a drive and dine at the Village instead... read more

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT get sushi at this restaurant. I ordered the sin city roll and i could barely eat more than two pieces due to how badly it is prepared. It was smothered in so much mayonnaise and had a weird burnt/torched taste from the blow torch they use to sear it. Even after I tried to scrape off the copious amounts of mayonnaise it still tasted like a gross warm mouthful of mayo. Not to mention this roll costs $20. I love sushi but I couldn't bring myself to eat this garbage.. such a waste. To top it all off service was slow and this was after the dinner rush when the restaurant wasn't very full. The staff didn't seem to care much about making sure I had a pleasant experience when I told them I couldn't eat the roll. No apologies or offer to make it right, just excuses. read more

Possibly my favorite dish ever... I would never do this dish justice by attempting to describe it but all I can say is that I've never had anything like it before and whenever friends ask me where to eat I can't help but to bring this place up just for this dish alone! You can pick any fish you'd like & it's cooked in a banana leaf with coconut milk, potatoes and bananas. The aroma alone might cause you to make a sound that isn't appropriate at any restaurant :) Amazingness doesn't begin to describe the dish. I could eat it every day, all day for the rest of my life. For this dish alone I have to give this place 5 stars. As for everything else, it's ok, nothing spectacular. The restaurant itself is very dated and desperately needs a facelift. It overlooks the lake which is probably beautiful during the day but at night you can't see any of it. All the other dishes including the sushi are overpriced & good but again nothing amazing. I drive from Summerlin for this one fish dish cooked in a banana leaf which is crazy but every bite of it is so worth it! My girlfriend and I came here on our way from Colorado to California. First of all I love the Westin hotel where the Marssa restaurant is located. We had the tempura as appetizer which was fantastic. Progressed to a halibut Nigiri which was amazing. Afterwards we had your basic rolls; Philadelphia, California, and Tiger roll. The fish melted in our mouths. I honestly would say it was one of the best sushi restaurants. I have dined at. Our waiter Brett and other staff paid us utmost attention without being disruptive. I highly recommend you try Marssa. I guess the reviews do not lie! This place is amazing! We ordered the salmon/tuna mango roll and it was great. Their ingredients, specially their fish was fresh and tasty! For our main entree we ordered the filet mignon and the duck. We couldn't decide which one was better as they were both cooked to perfection. They both had the same sauce reduction which complemented the food to perfection. We started at Marssa with the Bento Box. This appetizer was a 3-4 (see below). BUT, the rest of the meal, and the service, and the overall ambiance of the place, brought the rating up to 5 stars. The rest of the evening was that good. It was fantastic. Even though we never ate here when Chef Fuji was here, we did not find the main courses lacking. I can't wait to return. Drew was our server, and he was perfect the entire night. Refills both from the bar and with our water were very quick. He had great recommendations and did not try to upsell us at all. I was so pleased I told the manager. We'll be sure to ask for him next time we are at Marssa. As noted above, we had the Bento Box appetizer, and it didn't knock our socks off. It contains 4 items: honey walnut shrimp, an edamame dumpling, lobster cakes with crab/cucumber salad, and duck confit spring roll. The dumpling was fine, I enjoyed the broth it was in about as much as the dumpling itself, if not more. The lobster cakes were solid, but I could have used more of the sauce. The cakes were underseasoned. I didn't care for the walnut honey shrimp. While it was cooked very well, the honey glaze did nothing for me, it was bland. I liked the duck confit spring roll, but without the accompany sesame sauce. I liked that you can try lots of things, but more than one dish missed. So, the appetizer left us a little worried about the rest of the meal. Our fears were unfounded. I had the Marssa, a 9 piece chef's tasting platter that included both hot and cold dishes. The winners were the Cajun albacore tuna, the A5 wagyu beef, the mackerel, and the shrimp ceviche. The shrimp was so fresh, the body/head were moving a little on the plate. I've never seen anything like it. It was not off putting at all. You are clearly at the mercy of the chef, and at $48 it's not cheap, but I certainly felt well taken care of. It was a fantastic meal. The wife had the seafood katayakisoba. This is crispy noodles with broth and many types of seafood: calamari, scallops, crab, shrimp. It also has veggies and mushrooms. This was a massive dish, and again, it was fantastic. The seafood was cooked perfectly, very tender. The noodles were crispy at the top, and when you got more into the dish, they soaked up some of the broth. Very flavorful. This is a definite repeat. For dessert, we tried the pear tart with cinnamon sorbet. It was very good, the pear took on an almost apple like quality. This was a large dessert, easily shareable and well worth the money. Overall, we found both the raw and cooked dishes to be executed very very well. It was a pleasant evening in a great setting with excellent service. You can't ask for much more than that. It may be a long haul for most in the Valley, but it's worth it. read more

Wow! This place is amazing! Everything, and I mean everything we tried was delicious. There was 4 adults and 3 kids in our group and no one was disappointed with anything. They have a some would say small menu... but everything on it is well thought out and good. Great presentation, wish I had taken more photos. My friend had the Chilean sea bass and she said it was to die for. Rest of us ate sushi and the fish melted in your mouth! The spicy edamame was delicious and the kids loved the lava cakes. Very convenient if staying at the Westin, but even if your not... make the drive. It's worth it. Only downfall but I noticed it's a trend in this area... they added a 20% service charge.... on a 400$ check this makes a difference. And the service was great so we would leave 20% anyway but it's upsetting to feel you aren't tipping because you know the waiter is not getting that 20%... he looked bummed when he grabbed the check and we had not added anything additional.... BUT leaving another 20% would make it a 40% gratuity which is absolutely insane! Wish they wouldn't do this. For this I take away one star. But the food seriously deserves five! Oh and that funky smell you get a whiff off when you walk in...? They need to straighten this out, it probably causes some people to walk away and not give them a chance. read more

I think my expectations were a bit too high for this place. Maybe I was blinded by the shiny Four Diamond award, or the fact that Chef Fuji's master sushi chef title was mentioned every 5 seconds at dinner. I don't know, but it didn't quite make it for me. When I walk into a restaurant with so many accolades, I expect to be wowed. Our table ordered the first round of cocktails and some edamame to kill time while we waited for a couple of friends who were running late. Our server was very nice, but seemed a little unclear about the cocktail menu. It seems that the restaurant does not have their own bar, rather, the lobby bar makes the drinks and they have to bring them down. OK, no problem, but unusual. Apparently most people don't order cocktails, just wine and sake. He also had a couple of assistants who introduced themselves to the table, but didn't have answers to any questions. The edamame was pretty bland, but it was a decent snack with our cocktails. For round two, I ordered a Bombay Sapphire martini, very dry. It arrived with way too much vermouth. Disappointing. Since the chef is a master sushi chef, I was expecting some inventive and creative options on the menu. I was sad to see that there were only about 10 choices of rolls, most of them involving tempura, and the usual suspects when it came to nigiri and sashimi. I was pretty excited that foie gras was an option, but I decided to go with the sushi & sashimi sampler, which is supposed to be 9 of the chef's signature sushi creations. I figured I would give the chef free reign. I even told my server that I am very adventurous when it comes to sushi and that Chef should feel free to try out something new, or whatever he wanted. He said something like, "better be careful or you'll get the uni." I said, "um, yeah, it's my favorite, I hope the chef puts it on there...hint." I then allowed myself to dream of all the natto flying around and some weird fish I'd never heard of. Ahhh... But no. My sampler arrived, and while beautifully presented, I learned that 4 out of 9 of my bites were crab based. The other 5 were two pieces of tempura roll, spicy scallop, cajun albacore and a teeny piece of my beloved uni. The sushi was fresh and good enough (well maybe not so much the scallop), but I am kind of upset that I spent $38 for the Forrest Gump of California Rolls. Crab avocado, crab cucumber, crab ceviche... I'm not sure if it was just the price of the dish that was holding Chef Fuji back (I know he's got some good stuff up his sleeve - and I would have been willing to throw in a couple more bucks for the good stuff), or maybe he didn't believe that I could handle anything more than the basic. Great restaurant! My husband and I are here twice during our stay-cation at the Westin. Service was phenomenal, our waiter was Daniel. He made great recommendations for food and wine pairings. Let's talk about the food--some of the best sushi we have had in Vegas, even compared to the celebrity restaurants downtown. We especially enjoyed the fish lau-lau style, the fish carpaccio, the filet, tiger rolls and tuna sashimi. Must try the banana tempura dessert--to die for!
