Food here goes from tacos, sushi, rice dishes, sashimi, to Asian fusion dishes. We started with the beet tostados, wasabi aioli, watermelon radish, jalapenos and cilantro. A beautiful, fresh and light crunchy tostado with a slight sweetness of the beets. A definite must try. The three blackened shrimp tacos with spicy mayo, yuzu cilantro slaw, cilantro and pickled red onions were tasty, over-dressed with slaw but a solid. Our final selection was the King Kong roll with spicey tuna, avocado, cucumber, and covered in togarashi tuna, wasabi aioli, crispy onions and ponzu. This was tasty, multiple flavors and a bit of a bite. Chinitas is fun and serves casual Asian fusion treats. The innovation here is spot-on. Wifey and I decided to check out a Desert Dogs game and heard good things about Chinitas. So figured it's tapas and sushi, we can get some little things before the game. First, give yourself time to park. Water Street can be a little hard to find parking at times. Nothing that the restaurant has to do with. The food was good. Nothing crazy exciting, but good. We got some lettuce wraps, some rolls, steak frittes and some nigiri. Wasn't very fusion to me. Different cuisines yes. But no fusion as far as combining flavors. Service: Service was good. I'm not one to just throw around five stars. This place has earned it. Not only from this trip alone but every other time I've came here as well. I've dined in and ordered pick up and am always met with great, friendly customer service. The vibe in here is always right, during the day and at night. My family has normally main dishes off the menu but this last visit we just happened to pull up during happy hour so we indulged in small plates and they were all delicious! We have friends who live in Vegas, and we are honestly very upset that after years of visiting them, they are just now showing us Chinitas, because this place is so good. They have a huge menu, which I'm typically not a fan of, but we tried a little bit of everything and every single bite was delicious. Fun dine in experience at Chinitas! Walked in and we were sat at a booth. The music was a fun lively volume with a good upbeat mix of songs. Our server, Dennis, was attentive and friendly. We ordered two sushi rolls (Spicy Tuna Crunch & King Kong), blackened shrimp tacos (added cheese) and chips with guacamole (ask for a side of salsa). The food was great, good portions and very fresh. Stopped by again after a while and noticed they changed their happy hour menu. Monday happy hour is all day and Tuesday through Sunday it runs from 2 PM to 6 PM. They also have daily specials like $5 sushi on Wednesdays. I like the booths and they have really nice bathrooms. The churros are still one of my favorites even though they changed them a little. This place was a bit inconspicuous to find as I went upstairs first but realized they are downstairs overlooking water street. Place is a good size, decorated nicely, and has great staff. Food is Wonderful. 10/10. I got the "taco's" and got the mini beet tostada's. It was mini corn shells that taste homemade, beautiful golden beets, a horseradish drizzle and pickled red onions. I could have easily eaten 10. I also had the crispy Brussels sprouts which had a sweet start but finished with a nice spice/heat. They were so amazing I didn't want it to end. I also enjoyed chips and guacamole, spicy edamame, and a few rolls off my friend's plate which was avocado and tuna. Everything I ate was so good and I cannot wait to come back for more. This one's tricky... and I'll tell you why. Upon arrival, on a Saturday afternoon (beginning of happy hour) it wasn't busy, but as you can imagine, I walked in with 3 groups behind me. The hostess wasn't in her station, I get it, downtime, but the bartenders watching the door didn't greet with a smile either. I felt ignored.. hostess seen the crowd of people and moved quickly. Visited Chinitas on 2/14 for a quick brunch. Ordered the carnitas fries, birria egg rolls, and salmon and lemon sushi roll (forgot the specific name). The food tasted delicious and paired well with the drink I got. Since it was Valentine's Day, the venue was hosting a Galentine's event in the patio and also had a DJ. Wow, creative drink and food menu. Hubs loved his Chicken Tinga Happy Hour Tostadas, and I devoured my Beet Tosadas. Draft beer and a special cocktail rounded out our first Happy Hour here. Here at Chinitas on Water Street, you will find a mixed fusion of Japanese and Mexican food. We walked in and we were seated right away, where a live DJ was present on the outdoor patio. Reservations are recommended during peak hours, but that didn't matter to us since we got here later in the night. Kyle and I have had sushi on our minds for a while now and we immediately looked at the sushi menu. But first, we decided to share an appetizer of birria eggrolls, which were topped with cilantro and pickled onions. These were really good! Whenever we go to a Japanese restaurant, Kyle always orders a thing of nigiri on the side along with his sushi. Nigiri is a sometimes kind of dish for me because I'll never know how many sushi rolls I'll get, and I'm that someone who gets full easily. I ordered the Hawaiian Roll and Kyle ordered the Baka Roll, along with the salmon nigiri. The first and last Hawaiian Roll on my plate had a crunchy shrimp tail attached on one side, which ended up adding more of that fishy flavor to it. The Baka Roll came with a thing of noodles and was topped with I believe were crunchy onions, drizzled with numerous sauces. Before we left, I went to go use the restroom and they were very clean, although I did have some trouble locking the stall door at first. A clean restroom is something that I always expect when I visit a restaurant. If you're a happy hour fan, Monday is definitely the best day to be here, as they have this all day on Monday's. They have updated the lighting and removed the flowers from the dining room. There was a themed line dance event upstairs. It's nice they are keeping things fresh. We ordered both sushi and kitchen items. First the sushi roll came, a few minutes later the kitchen items arrived, the nigiri items were missing. However, the service was not good today. No silverware, no one came to the table to check on us so I had to get our own silverware from the service station. I had to ask the server to bring the nigiri, it was sitting up on the service counter for pickup, after we had eaten the sushi roll and the kitchen items. He then stopped at four more tables before bringing the nigiri. And that's only happened after he caught glimpse of our table having completed our meal and waiting for the nigiri. Was the food good? So the food here is good, fresh and different. I would have returned for that. But I'm having a hard time after holding an event there. Their event space is beautiful, I will give them that, but the way we were pushed out and treated at the end and the fact that we didn't get to enjoy the food for half of the food service time we were supposed to.. I'm still mad about that. We were told that we would have food service for 90 minutes. They didn't tell us that the food was ready until 45 mins in, so we only had service for 45 mins. And they didn't start clearing it at the 90 mins, they did so before and it was all gone by the time the 90 was up. Then at the end, we were basically told to get out, they needed us out of there. We weren't "enjoying" the space longer than we should, we were cleaning up and were told they needed us to leave because the event was over, very standoffish and rudely. I've been to plenty of events where they ask you to leave at the end, but never in that manner. With the money we spent to hold this event, I was mad and disappointed by the time it was done and still fume about it months later. Which makes me mad that I spent my money there and didn't go elsewhere. It took away from our family event and this is the memory I have of it now. After the fact, we wish we hadn't done it there. Serendipitously it was Happy Hour when we came in so that allowed us to try more of their items. Tried the Spicy Tuna Roll, Wagyu Burger, Elote Ribs, Bulgogi Fries, and Chicken Lettuce Cups. It came out in this order too. I actually don't mind when the food comes out as it's done versus all together. My favorite item was the Wagyu Burger. And my only critique is that the chicken salad was served on four pieces of lettuce versus just two. The fillings were spilling over as I was trying to bring it to my mouth and take a bite.
