So the first time I came here I bought my family out for my wife bday the food was so bad that we didn't wanna take back all the leftovers . Our server was sweet and noticed we was not pleased with our food at all . The brisket was tough and most of the meats we tried were beyond dried . Our waiter gave us a 40$ gift card since we payed about 200+ on the food and left about half of it at the table . My kids told me they refuse to eat this as leftovers . A month passed by and then I thought of the 40$ gift card we was given because of the bad experience . I had already made some dinner and just needed to pick up some sides like who can mess up Mac and cheese and beans right ? Lol oh yeah you can . After we ordered we had to look at the chef who looked fresh from the trailer park just tossing our food all messy into the large containers we had ordered. This isn't where the review ends because once we got back omg !! The beans tasted like they were barely cooked .... Nasty like I've never tested bad beans from any bbq place ever . This review is based on a first-time visit on 5/6/26. I arrived for lunch at 1:30 with a party of 6 and asked if I could stake out some space for us at one of their large communal tables. We all placed our orders once everyone arrived, and proceeded to chow down. I was really happy to see that the menu had a section for "Green Stuff" and proceeded to order the Kale Caesar with Brisket (I can't go to a BBQ place without getting their brisket), along with an order of their Marble Cornbread. The Kale Caesar had a lovely dressing - bright and perfect for the kale. The brisket was a teeny bit dry, but had a lovely smoky flavor, which rounded out the salad nicely. The order cornbread was generous... so much so that I had to ask if that was one or two orders. It was buttery and dessert-adjacent without being overly sweet. Yum! Others in my party raved about their food too. The chicken in particular got a nice shout out, and we all left full and happy, AND with leftovers in to-go boxes. This joint is hands down the best barbecue we've had in the henderson area, and definitely could be included in a conversation for best in vegas. Our expectations were absolutely shattered. We had tried to come to this place once before for a dessert we saw online, however they were sold out. We made a mental note to visit again if we were in the area, and I am sure glad we did. The experience started off great, when walking in we were greeted by a very friendly woman and the pit master himself who made some conversation and gave us some of his recommendations as first timers. I ordered the 2 meat 2 side combo, brisket and the pig candy with mac n cheese and creamed corn. She ordered the 1/4 chicken and potato salad. Immediately upon receiving the food I was impressed and knew we were in for a good meal. The brisket was tender and delicious, the chicken was cooked to a smoky and moist perfection, but for me the pig candy was the star of the show, I can confidently say no barbecue place we've been to is doing anything like that, do yourself a favor and order it. The sides were equally excellent, I find a-lot of times bbq places excel on one side, either the meat or the sides, this place makes an exception and cracked the code on both. The mac n cheese was excellent, the creamed corn was exactly what I wanted, and if you like pickles or dill flavor 100% order the potato salad. One aspect I especially think this place shines in, is that they aren't afraid to make the food how they think it should be done, every one of the meats had a little extra flavor either from an additional seasoning, or from a sauce. Most places stick to the traditional way things are made and that is fine but its very safe, when you add something to classic barbecued meats like these that shows confidence in your skill and the product you put out as a chef and as a business. I wish more places would throw their own flair on stuff and make it exciting and exclusive to themselves like this place does. The restaurant itself was very clean, comfortable, well kept and very organized, everything is right where you want and expect it to be. I wanted to make a section of this review just for the woman who came around to the tables, she was one of the most friendly restaurant staff members we've ever come across. Whatever you are paying her, pay her more because she deserves it. This place isn't just a if you are in the area, this place is worth a trip from anywhere in the vegas valley. The sides: coleslaw, Mac and cheese, baked beans, hush puppies, creamed corn, a singular Kugel, collard greens, potato salad and fries. They got the brisket right, juicy and tender with a decent smoke flavor, so well done on that. I enjoyed the pastrami the best, thick cut, really good flavor. While the others like the burnt ends and the pulled pork. The only negative there were the rib tips (I think) were rather burnt and inedible. All the sides were REALLY good. Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, hush puppies were sweet potato hush puppies, frickin amazing. All the sides, chef's kiss! Kid 1 is making me mention the kugel was amazing, she could have eaten 10 more. For the desserts, banana pudding, cookie w/ice cream and key lime pie. Now, onto the food: **Brisket:** Standard practice at many joints is to offer a choice between lean, fatty, or a mix. I was given the lean cut by default, so I can only speak to that, but it was executed well. It carried a nice smoke flavor and managed to avoid the dryness that often ruins a lean cut. **Ribs:** A very solid cook. They had great smoke flavor and were perfectly tender, pulling cleanly without falling completely off the bone. The rub gave me distinct Rendezvous in Memphis vibes, which was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. **Greens:** The texture was nicely tender, but they unfortunately lacked any real seasoning or depth of flavor. **Dirty Dirty Beans:** The beans themselves were cooked perfectly with a great texture, but the flavor profile missed the mark. The staff were prompt and friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. If you are a vegetarian or don't eat red meat, the options are limited but then again it's bbq. I just found my new favorite BBQ in town! I travel a til for work and have BBQ pretty regularly and haven't found good BBQ in Vegas, only mediocre, until now. The smoked salmon was the real surprise--perfectly juicy yet lean, with just the right amount of smoke. Not heavy at all and incredibly flavorful. I ordered a combo plate with brisket, burnt ends, mac & cheese, fries, cornbread, hush puppies, and toast, and overall it was a solid experience with some definite highlights and a few misses. One thing I really appreciated is that you can ask for your brisket cut exactly how you want it, lean, fatty, or 50/50, which is such a nice touch. The brisket had really good flavor, but for my personal taste it leaned a little dry nothing BBQ sauce couldn't fix though. Once I added sauce, it came together nicely. The burnt ends were a standout for me: super flavorful, rich, and cooked well. Definitely one of the better items on the tray. The mac & cheese was creamy and comforting, not overly cheesy but still satisfying. The hush puppies surprised me in the best way, they were sweet potato hush puppies, which was new for me, and they were super flavorful with a nice sweetness. I'd absolutely get those again. Now for the not-so-great parts: the cornbread was unfortunately a miss. It was very grainy and hard, I could barely bite through it, which was disappointing. The fries had good seasoning, but they came out a bit cold; I really wish I had asked for them well done because I think that would've made a big difference. Price-wise, the combo plates are a little steep compared to other BBQ spots, especially considering a few sides didn't fully hit. I wouldn't say the food was out of this world but a pretty solid BBQ place. That said, the service helped balance things out everyone was super nice, and I liked that you can order either at the register or through a kiosk. The place itself was also clean and well-kept, which I always appreciate.One major recommendation: get the white mama sauce. It is hands down one of the best sauces they offer and really elevates the meats. This is my second time at SMKD BBQ and let me tell you I knew it was going to be as good as my first. And I was not disappointed. This place is tucked away in a little. A little strip mall off Eastern, easy to find with bright and vibrant signage.. but the real real way to find the place is to roll down your window and smell the amazing smoke of meats being cooked right out front. I got to meet Alex, Gene, Karen, and Heather. Every one of them super friendly, fun interact with and had great suggestions. As far as I know we had ordered a full rack of ribs, and let me tell you they were so meaty and lean, and not a lot of fat. These were St. Louis style so they had the rub, but you need to add your own sauce. Speaking of sauces that they have three very delicious sauces. I myself prefer the original and spicy version, plus they have a white sauce that is mostly vinegar based. If you want a little bit of a kick, I suggest mixing the original with the spicy or if you want to go full bore, just douse those ribs and spicy. You will not be disappointed! Okay, let's talk about dessert. As a big fan of sweets, how could I say no to the chocolate peanut butter pie with toasted marshmallows on top? I wish I would have ordered a half a rack of ribs and one of the full pies because that would have been a perfect meal. This thing was so good, I literally could have eaten a couple of pieces. Stopped at SMKD to pick up some takeout today I tried the piggy candy and mac & cheese. I loved the mac & cheese. I guess I wasn't clear on what the piggy candy was, but I'll tell you, it was all fat. Next time I'll definitely be ordering a brisket or a pulled pork.. I will come back and try this place again. I do think some of their portions are a little small and a bit pricey for example I usually get the one meat deal with two sides and the brisket. Excuse my language but holy f**k is this place good. Wendy greeted us with such warm eyes and answered all of our questions! We ordered the Pig Candy and Marble corn bread for appetizers and combo plates for our main dishes. The pig candy was 4 slices of pork belly that was so sweet and fatty, and the marble cornbread was buttery and laced with ube. I literally have tried a number of dishes at SMKD and have yet to find something I don't like or said I'll never try again! Everything I've ordered has been flavorful, savory, juicy, and down right delicious! The photos I've shared are from my various visits (no I didn't order it all at once). The team did an amazing job redoing the inside after closing down Bell's BBQ. You get a gourmet meal with a fast casual yet homely welcoming vibe every time. From the moment you walk in and all the way through your entire dining experience you just feel like you're at home having great food with family. I was blessed with a chance to try food from Smkd recently. I don't know what was ordered but I tried a little of everything. I can't speak on service but I heard it was good. Brisket was tender and yummy. Smoked wings were amazing. Smoked chicken was also amazing. The small ribs were amazing. The smoke sausage were amazing. The pulled pork was good with sauce. Mac n cheese had truffle oil or seasoning. It was good and cheesy. Coleslaw and potato salad were good I will have to try inside soon. I loved every bite and I was in a food coma.
