I frequent this establishment quite often for brunch and dinner. I must have been there a minimum of 10 times in 2022. My last two experiences left a lot to be desired. The next to last visit, I was over charged a little over $100.00. It took 3 days and 9 phone calls for a member of management to return my call and resolve the issue. My most recent visit, on New Year's Eve, was a huge disappointment. I had a guest in and bragged how great the food and service is. Our server was great. However, the meal left a lot to be desired. I won't go into specifics, but I can say that I spent over $600 with tip and the best parts of the meal were the ice cream and mashed potatoes. It's going on day 3 with no response from management. Definitely the smarter choice during spring/ summer for the AC and good vibes indoor. Everything was amazing, ranging from the customer service to the foood!!! The customized menu that my bf received was so f awesome and sweet. I think it made him feel rly special. The small details at this restaurant are just outstanding. We ordered and this was for TWO :) -Hamachi Crudo -Dry aged meatballs -Seafood tower -Mac n Cheese -Brussels -28 days old Ribeye -Coffee and ice cream (vanilla and chocolate) to finish it off -Pornstar Martini, Kyoto Old Fashion, Ugh the hamachi was so fresh and vinegery- very tasty. Meatballs came with warm and crispy, garlic bread that was so good. It also had cheese curds in the dish! Yum. The seafood tower was delicious, the chili oil butter sauce was so flavorful. I was contacted by management and asked to give them another opportunity. I agreed to do so and I was not disappointed. Side note: I did not notify them when I was returning as I wanted a full experience and not a speciality one. After my new experience they receive 5 stars. The food was fantastic ! The service was excellent and the ambience was perfect for celebrating a wedding anniversary. I've been to Maple & Ash quite a few times but this was my first time coming for a happy hour! So the happy hour is literally for an hour, 5-6pm and is only in the lounge. There a $10 martinis and $30 seafood towers. The tower consisted of scallops, mussels, shrimp and crab. We added the pasta for an extra fee (definitely try it if you can). The seafood tower was delicious! However, I did have to take off a star because our waitress was not very tentative. We literally had to physically get up and ask her for things we had ordered at one point. Unfortunately, any time I've visited Maple & Ash I would rate the service less than the food. But, it's honestly not the worst I've experienced at all. If in the area, I would definitely stop in for the happy hour again. But considering it's only an hour, I'm not to sure if I would go out of my way for this deal. read more

I got to hand it to Maple & Ash. Our night celebrating our 5 year anniversary was made memorable through the dining experience and wonderful service we received here. From the carpaccio to the steaks the food here is like a 5 star hotel. The ambience speaks for itself. Our waiter was just the nicest person ever. He made it a point to really make our night special. I absolutely loved how they make the custom menus. This is just an extra touch of awesomeness. For the sides we opted for a lobster mac & a mushroom curry type deal. Both were superb. This is where you eat when you want people to know that you have money. Ironically, you'll sit down and then realize that it's too dim to take good pictures to share with your fanbase. Maple & Ash upended the high-end birthday market in Chicago by virtue of printing out personalized Happy Birthday messages on card stock and throwing in an expletive for good measure. I find the arrangement garish down to the fact that they employ a restroom attendant who appeared to serve no purpose aside from deterring people from continuing their celebrations inside the restroom. I've been here 4 times and every visit was the same story. Extremely high expectations mostly realized with a high-end meal, but being left with the feeling of having been hustled. Don't get me wrong, this is a top tier Chicago steakhouse, but it's the steakhouse equivalent of Nobu. A lot of the people who dine here do it *just* to collect that picture; just to keep score. Maybe that's just Gold Coast dining but I hate it. The likely explanation for why I don't like it is that it reminds me too much of NYC. I'm on edge the whole time aware of the people walking too close to me while preparing myself to dodge the arms of the waitstaff each time they have to touch something on the table. Every area of this restaurant is cramped with lighting better suited for the dance floors I frequented in college. The waitstaff members are good but never great. No, this is not the best steakhouse in Chicago despite all the hype and high-priced menu items. When I go to a steakhouse, the most important thing is the quality of the steak / food, quality service, and ambience. This restaurant is very good don't get me wrong, but there are better steakhouses in Chicago (Gibsons Italia, Original Gibsons, etc). We had an 8:15 reservation and we were seated exactly on time which was awesome. The location of this restaurant is in what is arguably the most expensive part of Chicago, so you're paying more for this luxury location and the rent that comes with it. You'll see that reflected in the food and beverage costs, and they have a minimum spend of $100 per person which is collected in the form of a deposit when you book your reservation. The service was overall really good and very attentive. Our server had quite the personality and was very engaging. Most drinks will be around $20 and up, which is what we expected. Our favorite part of the meal was actually the appetizers. We had the dry age meatballs and the burrata, both of which were absolutely amazing. One trend that I noticed with most of our food was that most dishes were overly salted and really too rich in flavor. The saltiness of the food actually gets in the way of enjoying the dish, which was a detractor. We had 2 sides, and they were both average at best. The au gratin potatoes were so overly salty that they were hard to even eat, and the mushrooms were similar being very salty and cheesy. I feel like we probably should have ordered better and thought it through more, but the servers definitely rush you when you're thinking about placing your order. The big issue I had with my experience was the cooking temperature of the steak. I ordered the bone in filet medium rare plus, and it came out so raw it was almost shocking. The inside of the steak was completely uncooked more like a very rare steak, not medium rare plus. Once I asked for a new steak, I feel like the mood of our server completely changed and he essentially disappeared. We were there for my birthday and he didn't even offer us a dessert menu at the end which was ridiculous. I do think the custom menu printing is a really cool idea, but it's really gimmicky because everyone in the restaurant had one and you feel a lot less special. TL;DR - Individualized printed menus, food is worth every penny, make sure to get a reservation! Maple & Ash was a fantastic brunch spot for Saturday, but expect to pay dinner prices. The quality of the food and drinks were amazing, so we were willing to pay since it was also for the experience. We decided on the "Courtyard" which is an indoor, tent space a few building spots down from the restaurant. The decor is very instagrammable with greenery and the lit candle waiting for us at the table for brunch. They are known for their printed individualized menu's for the occasion. We didn't make a big deal about the birthday, but they saw I put "birthday" as the occasion on our reservation and printed the menu, and gave us espresso martini shots with a candle in it to celebrate. I can't recommend this place enough, we got advice on which sushi roll to order (yes I got sushi for brunch and didn't look back), and I was so happy with my spicy salmon roll. I also got the purple rein drink which was tastefully fruity bourbon cocktail and perfect for anyone dipping their toes into the bourbon world. M & A is an extra special spot in Chicago! read more

The food was amazing! I had reservations for 4 on Mother's Day. We called to change the number of guests to 2 people, as we were on the way to our reservations. To access the restaurant, you have to take an elevator upstairs. We were offered coat check prior to getting on the elevator. We were walked to our two-seater table in the back (points for the quick table change). There's an open kitchen in the middle of the floor which was cool. Bobby was our server and he was fantastic! He made recommendations when prompted and insisted that we let him know if we didn't like anything, as he'd replace them with something else. This restaurant is definitely a vibe. Beautifully decorated and the dripping candles with the vintage holders were my favorite detail. When we arrived they sent us to the upstairs to wait for our table. Not a huge fan of this part because for what we were paying for a party of 6 a hostess should have walked us to an available area at the bar or the couches instead of just saying we can wait over there. Every bar seat and couch table had a reserved sign on it so we didn't know if we could actually sit or not, super confusing. When we sat down we were greeted by our amazing server, I wish I could remember her name but she was a total star. She spoke like she could have been the GM so I greatly appreciated her service. The "snack" before appetizers was very underwhelming. we really thought it was ruffles and French onion dip when it was placed on the table. I get it was made from scratch but I honestly would have preferred bread and butter over that for the price point of this restaurant. I did however appreciate the welcome cocktail which was a nice touch. We ordered 3 appetizers for the table and the most note worthy was the oysters. Although the smallest oysters I've ever received from a steakhouse, they were delicious and fresh. The wood grilled Spanish octopus was a little inconsistent. Some was grilled perfectly but most of it was tough. I understand that's hard to keep right with a busy dinner hour but again... I'm basing this on price point. The potatoes with it were great. We all had a wide variety of entrees. My husband had the filet which he raved about and I got the 22oz ribeye. They stayed true to the size which I appreciated. Most steakhouses will tout a 22oz which is clearly a 12oz. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I will say there was too much inedible grizzle in the cut of meat which is absolutely no reflection of the chef. Again, I know I sound like a broken record, but for the price point, It should be a legit prime cut. The sides are good for sharing. The mashed potatoes and mac & cheese are to die for. The drinks were very good. I got the Old Fashioned and the celebration shot for an after dinner drink. The Old Fashioned was the strongest Old Fashioned I've had in my life. I ordered a medium rare filet, which was cooked perfectly. Hubby ordered surf and turf. He said the lobster was succulent. I ordered the baked and loaded side. I will preface this review by saying I know Chicago just moved into the bridge-phase of opening up and everyone is trying to figure out what that means. This might not have been the standard for this restaurant, but it is what I saw. The Good: the servers were incredibly friendly and accommodating. They were cheerful and polite. They wore masks whenever interacting with guess. Most of the food was good, especially the seafood tower and truffle pasta. What they specialize in, they do well. The mixed drinks were also refreshing and tasty. The selection of liquor was also good. The Bad: the restaurant, for COVID precautions, was horrid. The tables were very close together, it was crowded, and there was no widely available hand sanitizer. The bathrooms were atrocious! There was urine on the floor that people made feeble attempts to clean up by putting paper towels down on it. They were a mess of overflowing trash cans and bodily fluids. Not at all what I expected from a supposed fine dining establishment. I was with a slightly larger group of people broken into two tables. The service was incredibly slow. It took items nearly 30 minutes at a time to come out. We brought a cake to the restaurant for our celebration. It took 40 minutes for them just to cut it! We started to wonder if they dropped the cake and were trying to cover their tracks. Our meal took 3 hours! Not to mention for a pre-set meal selected ahead of time, the portions were poorly thought out. For a table of 7 people, we were served 6 meatballs and 6 pieces of bread. Someone went without. They served the messy seafood tower in the middle of a rectangular table. Only the 4 people sitting near it were able to get any of food without begging someone to pass them some. If you cannot accommodate a group dining situation, do not pretend that you can to make some fast cash. If your dishes are only made for smaller groups/couples, don't pretend to be something different. The prices were also charged at a hipster rate. I am happy to pay more for fine food, but the quality of the food was not worth the price point. I've heard a lot of people say Maple and Ash is their favorite - mostly from millennial TikTok people, and the photos online made the decor look outdated. I was wrong. The food was actually amazing. I loved the seafood tower! Definitely would recommend. We got the pro version which is around $138 I believe. That was my favorite dish. The pasta was my second favorite. It is the mushroom pasta - can't remember the exact name. The French onion soup and steak were also good too. However, I gave it four stars only for two reasons. One, the waiter asked if we wanted to get some vegetables. This is stupid on my part, but I felt pressured to say yes when they asked, so I did. That's fine, but the Brussel sprouts were not good. They were not crispy - almost tasted just boiled. Two, the waiter added pasta in our seafood tower, which was fine until we found out that was a $10 extra charge. They should have just asked before hand, which was a bit annoying. Overall, the atmosphere is great. The interior is actually really cool and moody. Good if you want pics. Food was very solid. The IDGAF menu is absolutely worth the splurge if you have the budget for it. Super decadent, way more than you can eat in one sitting, but makes for great leftovers. Such a wide variety as well. They say four courses but it's closer to 7 as they double up on many of the courses. We had oysters with caviar with a vodka shot, seafood platter of shrimp, oysters, clams and crab, cheese pasta to go with the excess chili oil and butter sauce, wedge salad with maple bacon and onion ring, ahi tuna tartare with nori chips, NY strip steak with bone marrow, salmon, mushrooms and mashed potato sides, truffle agnolotti and hazelnut cake to finish off. Underwhelming upon entrance as it was my first visit to M&A. It's more like a happy hour bar with fine dining options ( at least on the first floor). This by far has been the best dining experience I have ever had in Chicago. Wowwwwwwwwww! Everything from valet parking, the greeting, the ambiance, and the FOOD... everything was pure perfection. Even the restaurant patrons were extremely friendly. We arrived a bit early so we were escorted to the lounge where we had a cocktail. Shortly after the hostess sat us at our candle lit table. Our server greeted us with a "welcoming cocktail" and an appetizer. Nick was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and picked the perfect cocktail to go with my meal. The wagyu just melted as soon as I tasted it... the best steak I have ever tasted. We will absolutely be returning soon! read more

Seafood tower all day and twice on Sunday we did the pro and eat a lot of different apps! The steaks could have been better but we're still good. The sides were unreal and the service was amazing. Now to tell you about the place it has the best feel like you're in Miami or vegas ambiance is just unreal the place is packed with amazing people who's who of Chicago and the staff was just super friendly and accommodating to your every need. Came here during Christmas Eve this year, it was fairly busy in the tent. It was a great size and nicely decorated. I want to say it was about 25-30 tables, 4 people max. It was still pretty cold, it was about 17 degrees outside, so we still wore jackets. Our feet were FREEZING by the time we left. The waiter was very nice and recommended different food and drinks. He also offered complimentary shots at the end of our dinner. The Curious Jorge was good and had a nice "smoked" taste to the drink. As for the food, I can see why everyone love the meatballs! The bread was amazing too. The salmon lacked flavor and the skin was ridiculously salty, overrated. The sides were the best part! The Mac and Cheese was really good, very creamy. The sweet potatoes were my favorite! We also had asparagus...with nuts??? I wasn't a fan but I just scrapped it off lol. It was my birthday so I ordered the chocolate cake, it wasn't complimentary but it was good! Wasn't too sweet, just the right amount of chocolate. They also gave a souvenir menu with my name on it! Overall, good restaurant and very good effort during the pandemic. The dining room tent looked like interior of a actual restaurant.
