Saturday night dinner reservation here. One of the trendy restaurants that specialized in steak and American style fare. Made a reservation for 9:30 and got here right at that time. Upon checkin to the hostess stand inside the door - you're sent thru the bar area to an elevator and up to the 3rd floor, where you enter the restaurant. We checked in there and were told the table was being prepared. The issue here is the hostesses are told to tell people to hang out at the bar and they'll come and get you when your table is ready. Issue with this is: you can't hear yourself think and there was an insane log jam there. So we retreated and sat out at the foyer. We were taken to our table in about 15min. Still very loud - and I'm not sensitive to loud ambience but it was heavy. Darkly lit place with no ceiling lights just candelabras on the tables. Kind of cool - very loud. We started with the Caesar salad which was partly charred and served with a soft boiled egg. It was good enough but the charring was a little over the top. For an entree I ordered the special Japanese's wagyu 6oz. I also added the brussel sprouts and we shared the au gratin potatoes. The steak was perfect really - tender, evaporated upon taste, and executed perfectly. The sides were ok - potatoes were the better of the two we got - as the brussel sprouts were just brussel sprout leaves no sprout themselves. Very hard to eat this way. For dessert I ordered the coconut cream pie which was a massive wedge. Tasted very good and I polished it. Our waitress - English? Took care of us, but was handling other tables as well so other staff also stepped in to fill drinks and make sure our experience continued at a timely rate. Overall, I would recommend here as a nice different speed than the usual steakhouse.

i've been here three times now and each visit surpasses the last. i am constantly blown away by the level of service, the quality of the food, and the attention to detail in every single dish. i'd be hard pressed to name my favorite bite, and each time the menu has been a little different, but you can't miss with anything steak or seafood. each time i've let the servers help guide my choices and i have not once been disappointed, even in dishes that wouldn't necessarily have been my first choice. pricey? definitely. worth it? without a doubt. 10 out of 10, no notes.

This used to be the spot for dates, anniversaries, celebrations, etc. The food seems to have changed and quality is not the same. The cocktails used to be the best in the city but they have changed the menu.

Maple & Ash has been one of my go-to restaurants since they first opened. While certain things never disappoint, some aspects simply are not as good as they used to be. The service and ambiance remain top tier. The staff is attentive, polished, and consistently helpful. While I appreciate the restaurant's attire policy, it does seem selectively enforced, considering the number of guests wearing sneakers and t-shirts. It gives the impression that enforcement is somewhat at-will. The welcome treats at the start of the meal are always a nice touch. Our server, Brad, was excellent...attentive, knowledgeable, and thorough in explaining the current offerings. And those meatballs...still incredible. Absolutely one of the standout items on the menu. Shrimp Scampi...yes and yes! The mushrooms were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. The sautéed greens were refreshing and something I would gladly order again. One surprise of the evening was the Steak Frites. Even though I did not order it myself, it was honestly the best steak entree at the table. Unfortunately, my Steak au Poivre (ribeye medallion) was the biggest disappointment of the night. The Steak au Poivre, served with peppercorn seasoning and a green peppercorn sauce, arrived split down the middle and lacked flavor almost entirely. To its credit, it was cooked perfectly. But for the price point, flavor matters most, and this dish simply did not deliver. As someone who loves a good ribeye, I would not order this entree again. The beverages were enjoyed by everyone at the table, and after a long week, that macchiato definitely hit the spot. If you love espresso, this is an excellent choice. And last, the chocolate is a nice treat share. Everyone can enjoy a taste, if you love chocolate. Overall, Maple & Ash still delivered a great birthday dinner experience. I came, I ate, I paid...but I definitely will not be ordering that Steak au Poivre again.

I am thoroughly surprised with my experience at Maple & Ash! The energy from our server and staff was outstanding! We were welcomed with a 'welcome drink' and a sign for it being our first time. We decided to order the "I Dont Give a F*@K" from the menu, and the bourbon tasting. It's a chef's choice option on the menu. The menu included an oyster shooter, caesar salad, seafood tower (clams, king crab, oyster), ribeye with accompaniments, and ice cream sundae with toppings tower.

What an amazing experience. This is the epitome of what a Chicago steakhouse should be. I will compare all future experiences and restaurants to this one. Amazing service, great pacing for the food, and delicious entrees. My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday, and Sarah took great care of us. We loved the personal touch with the printed menu. We decided to go all out and do the tasting menu, and we were so glad we did. They said they'd take care of us and they didn't disappoint. Standouts were the halibut, the seafood tower, the New York strip with bone marrow, the ice cream sundae, the coconut pie, and the wedge salad. I love that the menu was seasonal as well, the hamachi sashimi came with strawberries in a strawberry chili sauce that was tangy and flavorful. Every course left an impression on us. We thought the Brussel sprouts were a little bitter, and Sarah immediately asked if we'd like a substitute with asparagus or dessert. We chose the dessert and were surprised at the level of care from the staff here. Highly recommend coming here for a special occasion. They'll make you feel so welcome and taken care of. The food is definitely on the pricier end but it's totally worth every dollar. Two people doing the tasting menu with 1 cocktail cost around $550 pre tip. Employee benefits and tax are included as added costs to the bill. All the employees act as a well oiled machine, working in-sync to set clean utensils, clear the table, and set up the next entree. Bathrooms were upstairs and were spacious and clean. The restaurant itself has a dark ambience lit just by candles at the table. The music in the background is a little loud and distracting. It's got a fun, young vibe. If they had a piano in the background playing jazz music, that might fit the ambiance more. It was a little hard to hear my husband above the music.

Whether it's for a birthday dinner or weekend brunch, the menus come custom. Excellent happy hour, perfectly located in the Gold Coast with much shopping and scenery nearby. Delicious options and lovely patio seating.

We tried the Happy Hour (3-6pm) we saw on their social media at Maple & Ash Friday night. We got there about 5pm. They seated us at a bar table immediately. Our server Alex was so knowledgeable & friendly. We would definitely ask for him again. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura and the Crispy Chicken on their HH menu. It was perfection! The presentation was beautiful. If you haven't been to M & A, the ambiance is gorgeous. Romantic setting with lovely lighting. A must try!

The "I Don't Give A F*@k" chef's choice tasting menu: NY strip steak - it was cooked medium so it was a little more tough, wish it was more tender Bone marrow stuffing - very rich in taste, texture like gelatin, eat it with the onion and parsley to add more flavor Fire-roasted seafood tower - the BEST, the king crab was delicious, soaked in butter, you can taste the smoky flavor which was amazing, they add pasta at the end in the sauce and it was delicious Oyster and caviar - taste was fresh, comes with a vodka shot but also accommodates for non-alcoholic Bloody Mary which was spicy Sashimi w/ radish and grapes - they add some sauce to the plate but I forgot what it called, the sashimi had a strong fishy taste Yukon Gold Potatoes au Gratin - can't go wrong with this, the cheese on top was a little overcooked so it had a slight burnt taste Roasted asparagus - pretty good Rolls and butter - the rolls were fluffy and soft and the butter had a thicker texture Fork & knife Caesar salad - comes in 3 long pieces of romaine lettuce which you need to cut into pieces and in the top layer is stuffed with creamy dressing and Parmesan cheese Veggie and cream cheese dip - eh, this was alright, fresh and colorful veggies Build-your-own sundae tower - so much fun to eat, felt like a kid again as I was adding toppings to my 3 scoop Neopolitan ice cream in a bowl, the ice cream itself was really good, creamy and yummy, they give you 13 toppings to choose from served on a 3-tiered stand, pour the warm chocolate fudge over your ice cream and it hardens later Really great service here. They are very attentive to your needs (fill up your water every 5 min) and the general manager was amazing. She was very good and entertaining. Low and moody lighting and can get dim, romantic ambience. The room where you check in for your reservations was very dark. The tables had lit up candle sticks with huge candelabras. The building is 4 stories high. The first floor was the Eight Bar area. You walk all the way to the back to get on an elevator to the third floor where the main restaurant is. There's a coat check next to the elevator too. Not sure what is on the second floor. On the fourth floor are the restrooms which you walk up the stairs from the third floor. Before the hallway to the restrooms, there's a dry-aging fridge that has the steaks. In the ladies' restroom, there is an also restroom attendant.

Great steakhouse. The portions are good and the staff gives great reccomendations on how to order. Andy was an awesome bartender. Looking forward to coming back

What really surprised me was I've heard so much about this place but walking in the lounge felt underwhelming. I'm under impressed by it but then we walked upstairs and it turns out the third floor is gorgeous. The views are amazing and the place is buzzing. We got seated at a small sofa next to the bar and the whole evening people were just in and out. I really like the atmosphere; it's very good for a date or for celebrating special occasions. They also gave us complimentary bread. We ordered drinks, which were pretty strong, and then we got a few appetizers to share. Overall highly recommend. We didn't make a reservation and didn't even have to wait long on a Saturday night

A night at Maple & Ash is always a moment. From the lighting to the energy, the ambience alone sets the tone, dim, sexy, and buzzing in a way that makes you want to lean in closer. We started with the fork-and-knife Caesar, which never disappoints. Perfectly dressed and one of my favorite Caesars in the city. For mains, the swordfish was surprisingly underwhelming, but well-prepared. On the other hand, the turbot paired with a side of mac & cheese redeemed the moment. We were clearly very hungry (no photos of the mains were taken), but when it came time for dessert, restraint went completely out the window. We couldn't decide, so we didn't! We ordered both the brown butter apple galette and the coconut cream pie. ZERO regrets!

We went for "tower hour" to get their seafood tower happy hour special, which was absolutely delicious. The butter chili poured overtop was good enough I dipped our fries in it (which were hot and crispy and delicious). The restaurant was a little dark so I was absolutely that person using my phone to read the menu, but the place itself was beautiful and the couches we were at very comfortable.

How is the noise level in this restaurant? baby-friendly?

LOADED WEDGE SALAD w/BACON, TOMATO & BLUE CHEESE: -- appropriate amount of tasty creamy dressing -- very large but great for 3 people needing some greens with their beef -- I stirred it up well and very tasty -- good or better balance of ingredients RATING = A 22 OUNCE CHICAGO CUT: -- ribeye type cut -- medium-rare -- pre-cut per our request (I prefer not as steak stays hotter when served) -- nice edge bark -- nicely cooked -- best beef of the night -- the rib bone piece was legit but did adhere to the bone a lot RATING = A FILET MIGNON (14 ounce): -- cooked rare plus -- definitely rare -- pre-cut again -- cuts easily but maybe not like butter -- very good steak but I still feel like a recent Mastro's petit filet cooked rare + was better) -- served with Bernaise sauce RATING = A- JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE w/thousand island sauce?: -- big fat delish cake -- lightly breaded -- tender and fresh RATING = A+ CARROT CAKE: The MOOSE is loose!!! -- this slice of cake is the size of our head -- it appears to be a 1/4 cut of a gigantic carrot cake -- there are three cake layers w/thick layer of cream cheese on top of each layer -- it could be better with black walnut throughout the cake -- there are walnuts pressed into the backside of it which is nice -- the golden raisins are not ideal but forgivable compared with regular raisins ("squishy" is not needed in carrot cake) -- very moist even days later stored in their plastic to-go container RATING = A The dining room is super active with staff and very noisy so it may not be the ideal choice for a romantic dinner or true catchup with friends you have not seen in a long time. But there is no denying the STAFF are fun and excellent as is the chowder.

She absolutely fell in love with the place and said she was having a great birthday. She wasn't planting seeds, I swear, but our server, ever the professional, said he'd take care of us. And he did, punctuating our dinner with a wonderful dessert with a birthday candle. Speaking of candles, the focaccia appetizer came out with a lit candle that melts a tasty, buttery dipping sauce. I had work done at the dentist earlier, so I had a hard time eating. Every bite was painful, but I heated up our leftovers and fell in love with my rigatoni with vodka sauce all over again. Yum. The only drawback is the prices. We're not rich, but we love a great experience. We understand that an experience like that comes with a price, so we'll be back as much as we can.

The good: Salad was amazing with bits of nicely cooked pork belly mixed in and the salad dressing is to die for Focaccia bread was very good but nothing special but the bone tarrow butter was fantastic and carried this bread. Brussel sprouts were flavorful but greasy and overcooked... Beef cheek ragu noodle dish was heavy yet tasty.. Rib eye steak done medium rare was fatty and very very chewy so this was a complete fail, but seasoned very well...extra 10 bucks for some dipping sauce for the steak but worth getting to elevate the steak...Definitely don't do any steak under medium here... Lemon sorbet was the true winner of the night...Delicious without being too tart..... Overall like I said, not worth the $250 price tag before tip...._

Perilla is a tastefully decorated restaurant, both loungey and rich, but still makes you feel like the joint is all for you. You know, 5 star service is such a lost art, it makes you forget how much you miss it when all of a sudden it happens to be right in front of you. Ricardo, our bartender, what a gem. Forget about the perfectly made drinks that were served to us. Ricardo made us feel right at home with his kind disposition and friendly demeanor. But it doesn't just stop at Ricardo. Everyone was absolutely fantastic. We could have been served 7-11 sushi at this point and I still would have left 5 stars. Food time. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. They were not extra or over the top in anyway. But you can tell when something is done well and correctly, just like these fries were. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience. All the accompanying condiments were exceptional on their own and could have functioned as their own course. The Japchae glass noodles were a stunner. The real sleeper was the chopped lettuce greens tossed in their chili vinaigrette. Could have eaten 20 bowls of those lettuce greens. Sadly, I forgot the name of our server who cooked and cut our meat for us. She really added to the experience. She expertly prepared our food while maintaining a fun and pleasant conversation with us. The meat itself, my goodness, tender, smoky, quality-forward, and perfect served with the condiments. What a spectacular meal and overall experience.

I was staying at the hotel and encouraged to check out the restaurant so came downstairs to reach out to the host about a reservation. They told me they were fully committed the whole night, I said okay is there a waitlist, she looked at me unsure. I explained further if there is a cancellation would love to be notified and she wrote my name down. I went back to the lobby, looked on OpenTable and I saw multiple reservations. I went back to the hostess showing the 8:15 resy I got and she said it wasn't accurate and if someone booked it and came they would refuse them (what???!! There's a cancellation fee as well). I asked about the 8:45 and her coworker said that IS available. I was confused, because a minute ago she said they were fully commited. Which I said back, she said there is actually an 8:45 (okay so you lied). I asked if we could put our name down for that and did. After that extremely strange interaction, which I was not used to after eating at many higher end restaurants we sat down at 8:45. We ended up getting a mix of small plates. The waiter was clearly trying to sell us their expensive courses for his tip though he was very sweet... which he may not have realized we had an expense budget for work and we were trying not pass that. He emphasized the small plates were small and not enough food which we fell for and got more and had way too much food and passed our expense budget due to it. The food is great, it's the service that has work to do especially for such a high price tag. Get the chicken for sure. Dumplings you can pass on. The broccolini (not pictured) is great as well. Amazing sauce. As the food is good I would not come here again due to the service as their are other restaurants that are more buttoned up than this.

I had seen it previously advertised on TikTok and decided it looked like a nice, upscale dining experience and the perfect mimosa-filled brunch opportunity. Upon coming in at 11 when the location opened, I was already impressed by the beautiful cafe inspired French interior. The warm lighting and refined Parisian details were so beautiful and elegant, and I especially loved the look of the bar, which is a central statement of this restaurant. I chose the French toast breakfast and my boyfriend got the steak and eggs, and we both had mimosas as well! My French toast was light, fluffy, and delicious, definitely a solid choice. My boyfriend was super impressed by the steak and eggs and said it was the best breakfast he had our entire trip! The food itself was great and I would love to come back and try their dinner menu at some point. The service, however, is what truly stood out to me in our experience. Our servers were very helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and speedy. We truly felt taken care of. Fernando was the sweetest and most welcoming, and he immediately made my boyfriend and I feel so welcomed and at home in Chicago. We greatly enjoyed our conversation with him and he even gifted me a coffee table book detailing the history and menu of La Grande Boucherie, which was so kind and such an amazing gesture. Fernando set our experience apart from any other dining experience in Chicago and he made this meal one of our favorites!

We ordered the $195.00 seafood tower, only to find that it barely included any seafood, 1/2 of a lobster, 4 shrimp and about a dozen oysters. I understand that Chicago is not a coastal city, but to not even include an entire lobster for a tower that cost $195.00?! Yikes! The drinks are also very expensive, and we found the steaks to be tough and dry. The Niçoise salad was awful, and not at all what we expected. It was drowning in dressing and the combination of anchovies and tuna did not work. It was also quite obvious that the tuna was not seared properly. I did think the roast chicken was good, and the fries were by far the best part of the meal. We went to several fine restaurants over the past few days to celebrate a milestone birthday, and La Grande Boucherie was the absolute worst in terms of value and quality of food. They were also the only establishment that didn't give the celebrant a small desert with a candle to mark the occasion. Just disappointing all around.
