We were recommended this place by our friends in Chicago and it did not disappoint! There was a large group of us and we ended up splitting the tomahawk, a couple sides, some salads, meatballs, and other plates to try a nice variety. I attended a special 14-course dinner at Maple & Ash that was nothing short of phenomenal! Everything was an absolute vibe; the food, the ambiance, the service, and one of the best meals that I had all year. We were a party of 12, so we had a special tasting menu curated for us, featuring items from the main menu. This was the best way to enjoy my meal at Maple & Ash, as I got to experience a variety of courses and fully appreciate the menu's flavors. We began with the Blacked Out Oysters on the Half Shell, the Fire-Roasted Seafood Tower with Housemade Pasta Back, Maple & Ash Wedge Salad, Dry-Aged Meatballs, Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, and Wood-Grilled Spanish Octopus. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated at the bar while we waited for our table. This place has such a sexy ambience. We decided to order cocktails and the seafood tower while at the bar. We were pleased with both selections. For entrees we both selected filet mignon. My friend and I both requested our steaks at medium temperature; but the steaks came out a bit over cooked for our taste. We informed our server that the steaks were a bit overcooked; he happily requested two new steaks for our table. The next steaks that were brought out were perfect! Was the check as much as my rent for the month? Yes. Would I go again? Obviously! Unmatched vibes upon walking in- really great ambience, they are serious about their dress code (we saw people get turned away... they were wearing crocs so it was fair), and they maintain an impeccably clean and beautifully decorated restaurant with candles in just about every square inch. The food was amazing and for pretty much every dish I would say the cost was justified. They start you off with complimentary chips and dip with caviar- it's like an elevated version of the Dean's french onion dip. We loved it! Moving on to appetizers we had the Fire Roasted Seafood Tower, the Bone Marrow, the Wagyu Carpaccio, and the Hamachi Crudo. They were out of crab, which was disappointing because we had heard excellent things- but the rest of the seafood was great and well seasoned. Not as much as you would think for a $200 tower, especially given they were out of something on it- but we were happy enough with it. The marrow was excellent and I would get that and the carpaccio again in a minute. The hamachi was especially wonderful and we all wish we ordered a second one. For the entree, me and 2 friends wanted to share all 3 of our entrees- so they pre sliced my filet mignon and gave us sharing plates without having to ask! We split the Filet, the Ricotta Agnolotti, and the Atlantic Halibut. We loved all of them and thought the agnolotti was an especially stand-out dish. Very unique, flavorful, and filling. For sides we had the Mushrooms, the Yukon Au Gratin Potatoes, and the Whipped Potatoes. Again, all were a hit with the table and gone by the end of the night. Totally a split on which was everyone's favorite- but I loved the whipped potatoes best. Lastly, we got the Sundae Tower and it was a HIT! Everyone had so much fun making their own sundaes and the options for toppings were delicious and a there was a wide range of them (nuts, coconut, chocolate, oreos, pb cups, cherries, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce and whipped cream are the ones I recall). We dined at Maple & Ash for our 15th wedding anniversary and the experience from start to finish was excellent. Fair or not I judge steakhouses by their seafood. Some are exceptional and some are ordinary, and on this evening the seafood was exceptional! Great quick conversation at the third floor bar with the staff while I enjoyed two pours of bourbon from one the best bourbon collections in Chicago. I had just come from Little Toasted which I consider to be the best bourbon collection, and was a little sticker shocked at the up charge on most of the bourbon offerings. However, you're at a high end bar so worth the extra few dollars. We ordered crispy rice and sashimi at the bar which was fantastic, delicious sauce to accompany three types of fish. The crispy rice had truffle which I despise, but this dish was very faint and didn't offend my palate. The oysters were great, served raw and HOT which was new and fun, along with a half pound of cold king crab. My only regret on the night was opting for cold crab over hot but that's just personal preference. For $16 there better be some heaping brussels, but this was just like shavings / leaves that were overcooked and oily. My wife just kept looking at it saying there's nothing here. It was spread out on the plate to look like way more than what it was. They also gave some weird excuse as to why there was no spinach which was the dish we wanted in the first place. I failed you by not taking pics! It was a nice atmosphere on the darker side decor. You are greeted and sent upstairs to an elevator to the 3rd floor. The bathrooms are on another level I believe. A nice cocktail was given along with chips and onion dip with caviar. Both delicious. We choose oysters for the app. Fresh and some of the best we have tasted. I went for the fire roasted crab in garlic butter and the au gratin potatoes as a side. Both were good although my friend got the loaded potato and I would recommend that over the au gratin! His steak was very tender and he liked the flavor. Service was great! Food and drinks came swiftly and the table was swept of empty dishes. I never would have considered anything other than raw seafood towers, but, M&A made me a believer of the roasted version. I haven't been to Maple and Ash in seven years, and I noticed that all of their prices increased dramatically and the serving size for the lamb chops was reduced as well. I like that our waiter asked what kind go tequila I wanted. Our waiter recommended we try the ricotta agnolotti, which we got because I love truffle. It was so soft, creamy, and full of flavor. Definitely warm and a great way to begin my meal. I have a very sensitive stomach and cannot handle any red in my meat; our waiter did not shame me (at least not in front of me) for asking my steak be cooked well done and he offered to have it butterflied, which I prefer. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The sides we got; mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, and roasted asparagus were okay but none of them really stood out. For dessert we go the build your own sundae which was cool. You get a little tower with a bunch of different toppings along with a cup of Neapolitan ice cream. Absolutely my new favorite spot for "breakfast extraordinaire" in Chicago. This place is absolutely amazing and "all the special things". The pictures do not do it justice. It is so elaborately decorated with full class and distinction and the sea of large lit candelabras provides the perfect finishing touch. In addition to the exceptional ambiance, the customer service is second to none. Our waiter was fabulous and helped us select the perfect breakfast entrees. And to top it all off; breakfast was hands down over the top fabulous in every way from presentation to taste it was incredibly delectable. I can't say enough good things about this place and as a "foodie", I am particularly selective on what I consider fabulous and amazing. As if our visit could not get any better, we simply asked the guest stand of ladies on the way out if they could direct us to a good pedicure shop for a quick stop. My birthday dinner was at Maple & Ash like so many other people dining in. It was one of the BEST birthday dinners I've ever had, if not THE best. Immediately I was smacked in the face with luxury and attentiveness. After checking our coats downstairs we took the elevator up to the restaurant, which is dark, sexy, gorgeous, opulent, and warm. Decor is beautiful, and very detailed and well thought out. As we were led to our table, I was thoroughly impressed. This would only continue through the night. My partner and I were seated at an intimate corner booth, by one of the windows and shortly thereafter were greeted by our server, who was an absolute gem. She came over with a replica of the menu that you may've seen on Instagram. This is part of the birthday experience and my menu said "HAPPY F*@KING BIRTHDAY ZACK." I was obsessed. We were also brought complimentary birthday cocktails which made me feel even more special. We ordered some cabs as well, and the server helped me decide which one I wanted to order. After that, we were brought caviar topped dip with chips and bread with butter. All of this was exquisite. The caviar was so buttery and smooth going down, which just exemplifies the quality. Barely an ounce of fishy taste whatsoever. From there, we ordered the Maple & Ash Wedge salad to share, each of us ordered a 32-Day Dry-Aged Bone-In NY Strip steak medium rare, and we also ordered the whipped & buttered potatoes and winter squash for the table. The salad was beyond and every part of it, played off the other and landed in a marriage of flavors that made my body physically relax with the rush of dopamine it was getting. The salad also came with an onion ring which was easily the best I've had. (Granted my experience with onion rings is pretty limited to fast food/chains, but still) The potatoes were butter incarnate and light, fluffy, and extremely easy to eat, the squash was so flavorful, and unique! Portions were big enough that we were able to bring both sides home for leftovers. Lastly, the star of the show, the steak, was like cutting into butter, with a full-bodied flavor that actually made my eyes roll back for a split second. Tastebuds were eating good! Oh! As is customary for a birthday, we did also order dessert and while there were SO many options (dangerous for someone like me with a massive sweet tooth), I ultimately chose the roasted apple galette, which was light, airy, flaky and warmed my entire body. I ordered scallops, which were over-charred and had to be sent back however the wait had been so long that I chose not to reorder. The most disappointing part was the added surcharge for employee benefits. I go out to eat to enjoy myself and don't believe guests should be responsible for covering a company's internal obligations Lastly, while our server wasn't rude, his energy felt rushed and transactional rather than warm or attentive, which dampened the experience even more. I can't believe I'm giving this 3 stars, but I feel like I have to be honest! I want to start with the AMAZING, first off this is a beautiful restaurant and very romantic so it definitely gets points for that! Next were the cocktails, omg so creative and delicious! These are not cocktails you're getting other places, the home by 8 was definitely my favorite easily! Next were the appetizers they bring to the table (potato chips and caviar, as well as bread) which was FANTASTIC! They also serve a complimentary cocktail which was also delicious. The sides are served family style and we ordered the Au Gratin potatoes, the mushrooms and Mac and cheese, all which were 10/10. Would highly highly recommend. Lastly on the good, our waiter was so attentive and friendly, if we needed something he was there! Now the bad... no one at our table LOVED our protein. We got the ribeye and the salmon..both cooked well (the rate was cooked rare properly) but the entire steak was ruined by an overwhelming charcoal/charred taste. I'm not sure if something got burned on the grill, or it was too hot but the entire steak just tasted charred. Which is the reason for my 3 star review, if this wasn't a steakhouse I wouldn't let it affect my score so much but they are not cheap meals, and it's supposed to be what this restaurant is known for. It just makes me a little disappointed in our experience, I think I would check out another steak house before I came back to this one unfortunately. The service was the worst I have ever received. The waiter rushed at our table. I'm used to exceptional service and this was awful. For example, they served my husband's lamb chops and he placed them then as he walked away he was saying those are beautiful artichokes. Our waiter never stayed at our table longer than one minute. In the past i have had servers plate some of the sides. He also mentioned something about the bread but he was walking away while he was speaking. He was beyond dismissive. Then the steak debacle. I touched my steak and immediately knew it was under. I cut into it and confirmed so i sent it back. I ordered it medium. Upon receiving it again i saw that they scraped the Oscar sauce off then reheated the same steak. One part was properly cooked the other was not. When the manager came over i then asked does this lol like medium. He told me yes...i told him no, we have now only reached medium rare. I asked two other servers who confirmed the steak was medium rare (plus) due to the outside being charred. They offered to take it back again but i declined and asked to speak to the manager again. The manager then returned saying oh i apologize i saw the steak in the light and confirmed it was medium rare, you were right. I had taken a picture with a flash to already confirm this. I just don't appreciate the manager insinuating that I did not know what i was talking about until it was dually confirmed by two other servers. They did remove the steak off of our check. But I have had better service at a fast food restaurant. read more

Yuck. Lots of seed oils, my omelette had so much oil in it. You could push down on it with your fork and the oil would come out. I didn't feel great after eating here, neither did my mom or grandma. My dad and brother used to go here every once in a while but the last couple times they didn't feel good after eating here. I would recommend avoiding this place on food quality alone. I'm giving it more than one star because my dad and brother say the service is good, the food is just dreadful. The ambience is just kind of boring stereotypical Midwest restaurant. read more

I'd suggest to make a reservation bc it's always packed! This particular night, it was two of us. We were seated in a nice booth on the edge of the main dining room. It can be a little loud in the center of the dining room but everyone is having a good time! *It's not out of hand... Just celebrations! I recommend everything on the menu! Enjoy! Maple & Ash has always been one of our favorite restaurants for New Year's Eve, which made this experience especially disappointing. The New Year's Eve set menu was one of the biggest letdowns we've ever had here. My husband ordered his steak medium rare, and it arrived well done. I opted out of the set menu and ordered the seafood tower instead, expecting a premium experience. What I received was one shrimp, one scallop, a pile of clams, and a lobster that was raw. For a restaurant of this caliber--and on a holiday night--we expected much better execution and value. Although our service was impeccable from our server to the Bus boys to the welcoming ice sculpture and balloon drop, it was very sad that the food did not meet our expectations. The seafood here was really good! I loved the oysters and king crab so much - the garlic butter was so delicious and the Pillows of Love pasta cooked in the remnants of the seafood was truly worth it. The mocktail I got was surprisingly a lot better than I expected! That being said, my party was sat three different times at different tables until we finally got our actual dinner table. The waiter was kind but it was very clear that he was trying to upsell different menu items throughout the night, which was a little off putting. The steak ordered did not come out the way it was supposed to and the sides were nothing to rave about. I would come back for the oysters and king crab during the happy hour but safe to say, for the price point, the service and lack of flavor/consideration in other aspects didn't make for an amazing experience. read more

Fantastic. Last minute trip coming in town from LA. Restaurant is up on 3rd floor -- was told my hoodie was a no-go unless I kept the sportcoat on (duh). It's coming east guys. . . . Shrimp cocktail was excellent. Big, thick, cooked well, great accoutrements. Spanish octopus may have been the highlight. Octopus and potatoes - a spicy, crisp chile sauce on it - really tasty. The octopus was cooked great and the fire smoked touch was noticeable and delicious. The filet with a blue cheese crust was really solid. Washed it all down with a chablis (a bit under the weather) and called it a (great) night. I will be back with friends -- was a cold, quiet evening for one, but well worth the visit. read more

My out of town hosts asked me to recommend a top streak house. Based on reviews and recommendations, I excitedly selected Maple & Ash. 5 stars for service. Seated right away. Perfect attention from everyone. 5 stars for ambiance 5 stars for appetizers 5 stars for side dishes 5 stars for deserts 5 stars for portions 1 star for my steak. I ordered the 22oz, 28 day dry-aged bone-in ribeye. Medium Rare and was prepared to be blown away. The presentation was great. Well seasoned but my god the cut was horrible. It was by far the toughest price of meat I ever ate. The internal coloring was consistent with medium rare, but extremely fibrous and dry. I actually struggled to cut I with my steak knife. I choked it down without bringing it to the attention of our (fabulous) server so as not to embarrass my hosts, who by the way raved about their dinner. I don't know if I would have the opportunity to go back, but given the choice and considering the quality of my steak and cost, I would probably recommend another restaurant. read more

We were a large party of 14 (split btw 2 tables)for Easter Brunch. Service was great! Our server was Q. The reason for the average rating is because it didn't live up to the hype IMO. SEVERAL ppl have RAVED about this restaurant over the years so I expected greatness. To be fair this was an event and not their regular menu so I will have to go back in a regular day for a regular experience but I'm in no hurry. Collectively we spent 2K. It was right then and there we decided we'd cook next year Overall the food tasted ok. Nothing wow'd me. A couple ppl order chicken & biscuits. When the food arrived Q said, 'Sorry we're out of biscuits'. I literally thought it was a joke at first. It wasn't. It didn't even sound like they'd try to substitute with anything until we questioned multiple times and they found some bread The most disappointing part was how my mother got treated. She's vegan. She and my sister had extensive conversations prior to the event with their Maple & Ash contact person. She was told that there were ~5 options to choose from. When it was all said and done she basically only had a salad not a 3 course meal like the rest of us. It was just overall a waste of time and most definitely money read more

This was my first time visiting Maple & Ash, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. I ordered a steak that was extremely salty, along with mashed potatoes that were also overly salted. I paid $104 for a steak that I was unable to enjoy, which was very disappointing--especially for a restaurant of this caliber. In addition, my friend, who brought me here to celebrate my birthday, received a steak that was overcooked and had to be sent back. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations, and it was disappointing for what was meant to be a special occasion. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. read more
