We have eaten here once before probably a year or so ago and thought it was decent. Last night, meh...We ordered chicken and broccoli and chicken with mixed vegetables along with an order of egg rolls. We both agreed neither dish had a lot of flavor nor seemed very fresh, and the veggies were overcooked. The egg rolls were crispy, but again, not much flavor. I don't normally write reviews but I really have to say that it was lacking.. I've eaten there before and the double edged pork is always pretty good and very much the same every time. However, the lo mein has a lot of sauce to it which I don't like, the wonton soup was absolutely tasteless and the crab Rangoon was like puffy balls filled with cream cheese. I did call the restaurant after letting them know how much we disliked the soup and the crab Rangoon. The young lady was very nice and said she'd tell The manager but there wasn't an offering of something else or comp of any sort. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. read more

Pretty quick delivery considering we don't live super close. One of the containers leaked in the bag, but it didn't really affect the food. Ordered chicken with snow peas, combo fried rice and lo mein, steamed dumplings, salt & pepper squid (calamari), and shrimp toast. Except for the calamari, the portion sizes were very generous. I would have liked more calamari for the price. Chicken with snow peas was made with white sauce instead of brown, which was nice because I prefer the white sauce, but it was kind of bland. Everything else was fresh tasting and well-seasoned, except for the shrimp toast which tasted overly salty. Overall, would definitely order again and try some more dishes. read more

The food was delicious ,especially their Bobba but they charged me $5.50 for the drink and I wasn't upset till I realized that it was almost 100 ice I barley got anything to drink this is completely different to the other places in which I've gotten boba from . I would definitely recommend their fried rice and spicy chicken but if you are going there just to get boba tea then take your business else where. read more

So disappointed. I literally just got home from my first experience with Mandarin... WHY CANT I FIND A GOOD CHINESE/ASIAN takeout/restaurant place in this areeeeeaaaaa ahhhhh! So frustrated. There is a plentitude of Chinese restaurants in the area and today, I tried Mandarin. The place was tucked away in a strip mall right next to Home Depot. When I found the place, I was a bit hesitant to try it out, but I'm glad I did. I got takeout for the folks in my office so we could watch the NCAA championships in the conference room. We had the Triple Delight, Hunan Pork, Sesame Chicken, Green Pepper Beef, Combination Lomein and Chicken Fried Rice. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat that was used. In my experiences, I've always felt that restaurants would jip you with the meat. Not this place~! Everything was full of flavor and didn't seem as greasy as some other places I've ordered from. The styro containers with the lomein and friend rice were overflowing! Although I ordered large dishes for the others, the containers could have been a tad bit larger. The ingredients were fresh and colorful and the service was quick and efficient. My fav dish was the Green Pepper Beef~ This isn't the type of place you want to dine in at. It's more of a carry-out / delivery restaurant. There are about 3 tables that will seat 4 people and a couple tables that will seat 2. There is also a tiny 10" t.v. that I was watchin 'The Price Is Right' on while I waited for my order. I will definitely visit again very soon for takeout! read more

I have not been to this place in many years. My family decided to order take out for Chinese New Year. My mother's friends love ordering from here because they have a Chinese menu. All in all, there were 6 dishes ordered. Beef chow fun, dried tofu and pork, chicken and snow peas, some type of pork chops, a spicy beef dish, and one other dish, and some hot and sour soup. All in all, it was decent. I can't say anything stood out. If I had to pick a favorite dish, it would have been the spicy beef dish and the dried tofu and pork dish. They tend to make things on the spicy side. So if you like spicy, then this is the place for you. This place is pretty fast. There are some tables to eat in, but this is mostly a take out joint. If I'm in the area, I'd go back again. From what I see on their menu, the have beef noodle soup. That I have to check out. read more

This place has been my main stay since I was in high school. It's mostly a take out/delivery place but that's a'ight. Reasonably priced chinese food straight to my folks' door in less than 30 minutes. That's what's up. Everything is pretty delicious here. I especially love the Orange Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken and Shrimp, Dragon and Phoenix, and their Steamed Meat Dumplings. The best thing about Mandarin are the lunch specials from 11-3 every day but Sunday. $5.25 gets you one of 11 favortie dishes with an Egg Roll and Fried Rice. That's about as good as it gets in Reston these days. Mandarin should be on your speed dial if it isn't already. -1 Star for the lacking Vegetable options. They have about 11 vegetable dishes (compared to 71 other options) and no vegetable options on the lunch menu. So far, I've tried about 4 of the vegetable options and none of them are too happening. I'm also not crazy about the egg sauce they put on all their shrimp dishes. read more

I wish I could give them more than one star but the lack of a good customer service won't let me. 1* The Asian lady that's always with her starburst t shirt is very rude. 2* If your are trying to eat your food there, the tables are always dirty and if you ask to please clean them, they give you an attitude problem. 3* They charge you $.25 cents for hot sauce? that's crazy! Inexpensive & quick carry-out, with friendly service. Local family owned business, that has long term, full-time employees that are happy. Have gotten food from here 2-3 times per month for many years. The food is consistent from day to day. Definitely *american*-chinese, not traditional. The menu caters to the hungry masses, not the gourmet. It isn't a culinary statement, but it is decent food at a decent price. And if you order a battered, deep-fried dish with sugary sauce, then that is what you get. But you can order dishes with veggies, light sauce, and white rice if you have self-control. Look at the pictures on the walls and ask the people behind the counter about what you are ordering. They can accommodate requests for more veggies and less meat, or requests for less sauce. read more

The bad: - Delivery takes FOREVER (was told it would take over an hour so why don't I pick up instead?) - The Dragon & Phoenix was the saltiest dish I have ever eaten. Like when you get out of the ocean and walk on the beach and all the sand sticks to you, except instead of sand it is salt. And then you drink the entire salty ocean. That is the Dragon & Phoenix on the scale of saltiness. - General Tso didn't have a single veggie in it. Not one. Their sister restaurant House of Mandarin at least puts a few faux broccolis in theirs. Look, I know chinese food isn't healthy for you but goddamnit LET'S PRETEND. The good: - It was cheap - Dragon & Phoenix had tons of broccoli, and they weren't covered in that super mega salty sauce - They posted pics of almost their entire menu on Yelp With that said, I don't think I'll be coming back and will drive over to House of Mandarin instead. read more

I have business travel a lot. I am Chinese. I like burger, steak, noodles, but my favorite diet is Chinese food. This restaurant is very good for me, though not all of dishes are authentic Chinese (I agree they have to cook some American Chinese food for western people) , yet some dishes are very authentic home cooking. I recommend: shredded pork with chili pepper , shredded pork tripe with pickled mustard green. I stayed here only for 2 days, if I come back, I will go to this restaurant again. read more

Holy smokes! So much food!! If you get the lo-mein or fried rice (small take out size) prepare for a generously large feast. Easily enough for at least two people and pretty good all round for taste, friendly service, price and quick. Ordered twice. I liked the fact that I can order extra spicy and they actually make it extra spicy. To often they dont actually believe you. Solid Chinese in restaurant, which has a dearth of good Chinese. Of course it's pure American style Chinese, with the typical fare. Have enjoyed the Kung Pao Delight, Singapore noodles and Yuling duck. I also like the broth they use for their wonton soup, it's got more flavor than most places. read more

Garbage. Got General Tao tofu and asked then to make the tofu extra chewy. They didn't even know how to do that. Sounds like they need a new cook. The toft was crispy on the outside and not even cooked on the inside. Yes is not easy to make tofu, but that's no excuse. The flavor was subpar, didn't even taste like General Taos. This is a pretty nice little faux-Chinese food joint. The stuff here is far from authentic and the meat is not going to be high grade. But the portions are huge, the flavors are not timid, and most of the dishes come out very solid. If it's any indication of quality, my Chinese coworkers and I (as in, born in the Mainland) come here all the time. You'll definitely want to order the twice-cooked pork. It's nothing like actual authentic huiguo rou, which uses thin slices of pork attached to fat. But the Mandarin version has deliciously tender lean pork, which makes it a good order for a non-Chinese palette. The best kept secret, however, is hidden in plain sight on a sign written in Chinese outside - hongshao niurou mian, or beef noodle soup. This is a wonderful, hearty noodle soup with a huge portion of tender stewed beef over fat Chinese noodles in a delicious broth. This one takes a bit longer to cook in order to get the beef tender, but it's totally worth the $9 cost when you're in the mood for soup and you just had pho yesterday. Anytime my boyfriend and I are in the area and are craving Chinese, this is always our destination (it has been for quite a while). I get the same thing every time, Chicken Lo Mein and spring rolls. My boyfriend changes his order almost every time, but generally gets the same things, General Tso's or the Dragon and Phoenix (and egg rolls). We then share an order of Chicken Fried Rice. The serving sizes here are huge, the flavors are undeniable and the people who work there are always friendly (for a while, there was a man who owned this place who knew us by name. Looks can be deceiving. It doesn't look like a great restaurant but I really like their food! The orange chicken is fantastic. The beef with mixed vegetables are one of my favorites too. Their panfried dumplings (potstickers) both vegetable and meat are very very good. Bbq pork with snow peas and the moo shi vegetables with pancakes are very good as well (make sure you order extra pancakes!) Good lo mein and the fried rice isn't bad. I've tried other dishes on the menu that I wasn't crazy about, but I have my favorites and I stick to those every time. They give you plenty of rice with your order. It's tough to find good food in the burbs that isn't doesn't contain the word "burger". I'm not going to say mandarin is knock-your-socks off great. But we like the fried rice (pork for me, shrimp for my girls), Szechuan string beans, the Szechuan beef proper, and every once in a while you just feel like having some Kung pao or general Tso. I am so surprised that my favorite Chinese take-out place in Reston was so underrated. I am from China and work in Reston. In the past 10-years I have been visiting them, especially during my single years, I almost paid daily visits. The previous owner was an old man from Taiwan. Then he sold the store and passed all his recipes to a Chinese owner. The Spanish Chefs were there since my first visit. The flavor and the food quality did not change when the restaurant changed hand. The prices are good, food portions are reasonable and the gradients are quite fresh. This place offer authentic Chinese style stir-fried food than any other take-out places in the entire US that I have been too. And some of their dishes are prepared quite old-schooled. For example, the Mu-shoo Pork is offered with pancake other than rice. Some of their dishes are Americanized, i.e. cooked with the sweet/sour or white/brown sauces, and they taste horrible just like all other Americanized Chinese food. If you go to a Chinese restaurant and order General-Tao's chicken, then you may have problem with this place, because General-Tao's Chicken does not exist in China, just like the fortune cookies. I do not blame them if they could not cook it well. My all time favorites and their most authentic Chinese dishes: (A little salty from my point-of-view, but I always ask for less salt. Disgusting! Ordered chicken fried rice and general Tso chicken about 1 week ago. The chicken fried rice looked like it had an entire bottle of soy sauce added to it, and the chicken was fatty and chewy. The general Tso chicken was downright inedible and I'm not even sure it was chicken to be 100% honest. They will not be getting my business ever again. Way more food than I could eat, but I tried. I ordered the pork and string beans from the lunch menu and it comes with an egg roll and fried rice. I asked to remove the pork from the entree and make the dish extra spicy. I also asked for a veggie roll instead of an egg roll. They were very accommodating and the wait time was less than 10 minutes. When I peeked into my bag and saw those vibrant green beans loaded with spices I kicked into high gear to get back to my office to enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed every single spicy crunchy bite. I know the spice is right when my nose begins to run and that dish had me eating with a fork and a tissue. The fried rice was more like brown rice with nothing in it which worked fine to coat my tongue while I consumed the spicy green beans. I didn't want to stop eating but I had to try the veggie roll. It was really fresh and loaded with crunchy cabbage and a few sprigs of carrots. I've had better, however I enjoyed the freshness of it. I will certainly be trying other items on the menu now that I know there is pretty good Chinese takeout near work. By the way, I didn't finish the green beans because it was so much food. Have ordered there twice in the last 6 months, both times delivery. First time got the worst shrimp with lobster sauce of all time. Disgusting taste to the sauce and I've eaten this dish in at least 20 Chinese restaurants. Did get some decent Mongolian lamb, so tried them again. This time ordered shrimp tempura and a shrimp and lo mein dish. The shrimp tempura was not shrimp and not tempura. It tasted like some pre made frozen item they reheat and sell. But trust me, it was not shrimp, some kind of ground mush with shrimp flavored sauce and the batter had no tempura taste at all. Really, really bad. The lo mein dish had plenty of lo mein, but talk about tiny shrimp! Basically lots of noodles and about an ounce of 90-110 count shrimp. Not other veggies mixed in. Not as bad as the tempura but certainly not good. We also got the lamb again and that was decent. But this is the last time for these guys. read more

I've been getting take-out from Mandarin for over 10 years now. Their Chicken Lo Mein is the best I've had -- I love the thicker noodles that they use. The Chicken Fried Rice is also tasty. The egg rolls are very good and not greasy, as I commonly find upon reheating my leftover egg rolls. I also enjoy the steamed vegetable dumplings. Service has always been good when placing my order and picking up. Although I don't live as close to Mandarin as I used to, I will make a special trip for the best Chicken Lo Mein! read more
