I'm glad Peter is done hiding and can open restaurants regularly without threat of being deported or kidnapped by Chinese spies. The food is great and the service is quick and attentive. I was here twice over the last two months. The first time, I ordered off the regular menu. The second time, I did the AYCE dim sum/tapas. Obviously, ordering a la carte, you'll get larger portions. It was all fantastic. The server was attentive and friendly. Dishes came out lightning fast. And the food itself was stellar! I'll let the photos speak for themselves. You can't go wrong here, especially if you're getting one of the AYCE specials (there's a similar one at Mama Chang's). I want to note though, three of the dishes have the same flavor profile, just different main ingredients: spicy dry fish, spicy dry cauliflower, and dry fried spicy eggplant. They use dry fried red chili and ground Szechuan peppercorn. If you like this, great! Just know it's the same seasoning across these dishes. Outstanding meal from start to finish. The Peking duck was perfectly roasted crispy skin, tender meat, and the presentation is elegant. The duck roll was amazing and fresh, flavorful, great execution. The cucumber salad was refreshing and perfectly balanced. But the Mongolian chicken was phenomenal. I kept seeing rave reviews about Peter Chang, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered through Uber Eats, and here are my thoughts: - Spicy Chicken with Mixed Pepper and Basil ($20): The portion was generous, and the chicken was tender. However, despite its name, I didn't find the dish spicy at all. I also felt it could've used more seasoning, as the flavors were milder than I expected. - Cumin Spicy Diced Lamb ($13): This was my favorite dish. The lamb was tender, the cumin flavor really stood out, and it actually had the level of spice I was hoping for. - Vegan Szechuan Cold Noodles ($7): I've had this dish at other restaurants and usually love it, but this version was disappointing. It arrived warm instead of cold, so I refrigerated it overnight. By the next day, the noodles had become too firm, and the Szechuan flavors were very subtle. This may just be one of those dishes that's better enjoyed fresh in the restaurant rather than delivered. One thing to note is that rice isn't included with the entrées. If Chinese food were a reliability test, this place would pass every audit with flying colors. We've ordered from here more times than I'd like to admit, and the food is always consistently delicious. It's our go to Chinese restaurant and the food travels surprisingly well, so if the takeout tastes this good, I can only imagine how amazing it is fresh in the restaurant. For my recent visit to Peter Chang's weekend Bottomless Dim Sum and Tapas Brunch, I prepared by: * Fasting for 12 hours * A one hour gym workout * Two hours playing pickleball Met up with my immediate family to celebrate Mother's Day this past weekend, and I gotta say, this brunch is one of the better AYCE deals currently in NOVA. Located off of busy Centreville Road in Herndon, DMV legendary restaurateur Peter Chang opened this latest establishment in September 2024. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended for their Bottomless weekend brunch; and especially if you have a large group, as we did. There is limited parking right in front, but drive a bit further for a larger lot across the street within a 2-3 min walk. The interior is modern with the familiar high ceilings, exposed duct work, faux greenery, and Asian themed artwork. Combined with the choice of almost tropical like tables and chairs, the decor was giving off serious Malaysia vibes. When our server arrived, she explained that diners could choose items from EITHER the Chinese Tapas or Traditional Dim Sum menu, which is awesome since this allows for the culinary options of over 45+ items!!! Depending on the size of your group, I would suggest ordering 6-8 items at a time, since the plates are small (about a 1-2 person serving size). And TBH, I like this style of AYCE as opposed to the the usual long steam tables of food which just sits underneath heat lamps, and has tongs which have been handled by lots of people...yuck! And for the restaurant, it helps to limit food waste. Over the next 90 minutes (time limit for the AYCE brunch), we sampled so many items, but some of the standouts were: * Crystal Shrimp Dumpling (har gow) - wrapper wasn't too thick, and the shrimp filling was plentiful and had excellent flavor * Steamed pork and shrimp shu mai - very good version of a dim sum staple. * Beef Chow Fun - noodles could've had more "wok hei" flavor, but beef was tender and not too salty. * Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) - good amount of seasoned soup inside the wrapper with tasty pork filling * Salt and pepper shrimp - peeled shrimp was flash fried, but not rubbery. It was topped with a salty peppery crunchy topping. We had several rounds of this dish. * Black Sesame egg yolk bao - creamy and not too sweet eggy filling, inside the soft black sesame bao I will detract one star for the service, however. Im my estimation, the place is understaffed for the volume of customers. Water and tea was a bit slow to arrive (after 8 min of sitting down) and it was challening to flag down our server to order more items; hence the reason it's recommended to get multiple dishes at one time. But at the end of the meal, everyone was quite pleased and satisfied, most importantly, mom and dad enjoyed the experience. When the check arrived, our party of 10 had ordered 40 items. With tax and tip, the total came out to a tad under $400. Tbh, for the quality and variety of food, $40/person is a good deal. Our friend, who has lived in the area and has experienced dining at many Chinese restaurants throughout the Metro-Washington region, was impressed with the quality and variety of the food. This is a very, very tasty Chinese restaurant. The food selection is excellent, and the tapas-style plates are the way to go--smaller portions, better variety, and easier on the wallet than committing to one big dish. That said, the larger plates are totally worth it if there's something you really, really love. Everything we tried was super delicious--from the Mongolian Beef to the Spicy Dry-Fried Bamboo Fish to the Signature Pork Soup Dumplings. Honestly, this was just really good food, start to finish. Peter Chang's bottomless brunch menu appealed to me and my wife for its solid price point and vast menu of both Sichuan small plates and dim sum classics. We decided to check it out with some dear friends on a recent Sunday morning and found it among the better AYCE Chinese experiences in the area. We made reservations for our party of 6, which were warranted as the dining room grew increasingly packed during our brunch. Our waitress was friendly, consistently available, and very helpful throughout service. As with any bottomless small plates format, a couple items were forgotten or incorrectly delivered to our table, but we overall found the order accuracy and service here above par. The ambiance here feels more upscale than expected with an open, modern dining room possessing jade green and gold accents. We were able to sample a good cross section of the menu. Any of the "dry fried items" are worth ordering as they arrive shatteringly crisp with an addictive chili-peppercorn dry coating. We tried both the cauliflower and eggplant options and found both excellent. The Sichuan popcorn chicken had tasty, crispy nuggets of meat tossed in a tangy sweet sauce which, while not very spicy, made for a balanced, savory bite. The dumplings we sampled were all solid, including better than expected pork soup dumplings and surprisingly tasty pan fried vegetable dumplings. Some traditional entree dishes are available as small format plates, and we dug the Mongolian beef, spicy Hunan pork belly, and mapo tofu. While the scallion bubble pancake is a Peter Chang signature, none of us much cared for the greasy, dry orb relative to the classic, flaky version available elsewhere. I also found the wontons in chili oil lackluster for its pittance of sauce and gummy wrappers. While elegantly presented, the black sesame egg yolk bao tasted cloyingly sweet, which was very surprising for a Chinese dessert. Despite some misses, at $30ish bucks per person we all ate our fill of a variety of mostly good to great dishes, and failed to sample at least half of the remaining menu at that. The combination of solid eats, attentive service, and appealing ambiance are hard to beat in the area, and we thus look forward to returning to this location of Peter Chang. read more

Excellent! This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the Herndon, Reston, and Sterling so say the least. The restaurant looks great and is spacious; the food and vegetarian options are delicious, not to mention the price for them well worth it. Service is usually good when I come here but today service from Tanya S was superb. She was kind, thoughtful, and paid attention to details. She brought me a bowl for my delicious Mapo Tofu (when I didn't even ask) so that, as she said "didn't want your suit jacket to catch any splatter". How considerate! Small gestures like this speak to a person's awareness and character. The portion size was incredibly small. We ordered the whole duck expecting it to serve 2-3 people, but it arrived as a small plate of sliced duck that could comfortably feed only about 1-1.5 people. Considering the duck costs around $80, the portion felt very disappointing. Customers shouldn't feel like they are paying a premium price for such a small serving. We have ordered whole duck many times at Hong Kong Restaurant, where they typically provide two large containers of duck meat for even less than this price, which easily feeds 2-3 people. Compared to that, the portion here was extremely small. It honestly didn't look like the amount you would expect from a whole duck, which made the experience even more disappointing. I went here with a friend on Sunday for some AYCE Dim Sum, and was surprised at how good everything tasted. Went right at opening (11AM) and there was a decent amount of people, but didn't have to wait for a table. The Food: The food was fantastic. All the dim sum dishes we had were cooked perfectly. Full of flavor and came out pretty fast. The highlight of the day was definitely the Pork and Shrimp Shumai. Honestly one of the most tender Shumai's I've had so far in this area. Some honorable mentions: Crystal shrimp dumping, soup dumplings, Taiwanese popcorn shrimp and hot chili oil wontons! The Atmosphere: The restaurant is decorated very nicely. Modern, great colors and just well spaced out. Also, just very clean. The Service: Service was good for how busy the place was. It wasn't very busy yet so we were seated right away. Our server was very attentive and gave us suggestions when we weren't quite sure what to pick out. My husband likes spicy food so we picked a few dishes that were spicy. I wasn't a huge fan of the duck spring roll but that might have partially been my fault because I'm used to the Vietnamese rice paper spring rolls that aren't fried. Other than that everything else was pretty tasty! Overall since we went with less popular menu items it felt like a more unique experience compared to our previous visit although it is still definitely fun to get the crowd pleasing bubble scallion pancake and munch on popcorn chicken it's nice to know we have the option of trying other tasty Chinese food with a more upscale ambiance than Yu Noodles for example. Of course there is a correspondingly higher price point but once in a while I like to see a more elevated take on the classics like how mint and lime in their iced jasmine tea drink made it extra refreshing. Went here for a lunch with some coworkers. The place looks fancy and probably gets a good happy hour and dinner crowd. I've heard great things about it from a number of people and I'm glad I finally got to try it. I understand now why people speak highly about it. We had a table for 10 and surprisingly we all fit at a bigger round table. The food came out pretty quickly and it was great! I ordered the lunch special Szechuan beef noodle soup (spicy) and it was awesome. It was a little heavy on one spice that I've never know the name of, but I finished it and I was satisfied. I should probably find out the name of it. All of the others in the group had great looking good but we didn't share. One of my coworkers got the egg rolls and said that she "burned the s**t" out of her mouth, so I guess it was pretty hot. TLDR: Very solid Chinese food but can be a little pricey. The small plates are good and so is the hibiscus tea. My wife and I have been here many times and we typically like everything we get. On this most recent trip we tried the fried rockfish and it was amazing. It was crispy and a little spicy but not dry on the inside. We always get the combo fried rice since it comes with chicken, beef and shrimp. We also usually get the Peking duck. It's pretty good but not as good as the Peking duck restaurant in Springfield. But it beats having to drive all the way out there. They offer larger plates and smaller shareable plates. I think it's best to do some shareable plates and maybe one bigger plate. The hibiscus tea is a personal favorite for my wife and I. We share the teapot as it's meant for 2 people. It is the most fresh tea you're probably going to get from a restaurant. They actually put the flowers and fruits in the water and let it steep. By the time you get to the bottom of the tea pot, it is so flavorful and delicious. Midweek and lunch time, we decided to try Peter Chang in Herndon. Parking was easy; we were greeted immediately upon arrival by the host. We were seated with menus and water was brought immediately. The waitress, Sally Y, waited until we put our menus down before approaching our table; that said, she was waiting on several other tables. We ordered the Lunch Dim Sum Platter Box, the Half Peking Duck, and the Scallion Bubble Pancake, along with a pot of tea. Sally brought tea and then the pancake came out first (in true Chinese style, when any dish is ready is is brought out and the order never seems to matter). Next was the duck and finally the din sum. Everything tasted great; OK, my wife did not like the egg roll that was part of the dim sum offering for this day. Price was OK, but the pot of tea was $5 and the pancake was $6. The dim sum was $18 and the duck was $32. The restaurant was clean, open and airy. The music was American style which was surprising. The bathrooms were clean and even had hot running water. I'm on a mission to try all of Peter Chang's restaurants and my most recent trip brought me to this location. I got there right as they opened and was promptly greeted and seated. Soon after, Tanya came to greet and take care of my table. I asked her some questions about the menu and gave her some flavor ideas I was interested in and she made some suggestions based on that. I ended up trying their Fragrant Spicy Diced Beef and their Spicy Chicken with Mixed Pepper and Basil. I also found out they offered Garlic Cucumber and I had to get a side of that. To start, I asked for a pot of Jasmine Tea. The tea was great, as usual! The Garlic Cucumber was incredibly tasty! Many times cucumbers that are flavored are somewhat bland after you bite into them, but these were done perfectly and very flavorful! I took bites of some throughout my dining experience and loved each bite! The star of my lunch was the Spicy Chicken with Mixed Pepper and Basil, which was excellent! It offered a very nice spice level and lots of great flavor! One of my favorite dishes at most all Peter Chang restaurants is the Spicy Chicken with Onions and Peppers and this was the closest to that offered at this location and I have to say that I loved the touch of basil! This is also a slightly wet, but not saucy dish, whereas the dish I love is a dry-wok'd dish - Both are great though! The Fragrant Spicy Diced Beef was very nice, but I wasn't a fan of the potatoes in them. I have had Szechuan dishes with potatoes (one of my favorite Szechuan places in Dale City does a chicken & potato dish which is outstanding!). Their potatoes were on the rubbery side and not very flavorful. But the chunks of beef were amazing! I love dry-wok'd dishes like this and the spice and pepper mix were incredible too! I absolutely enjoyed this visit and definitely enjoyed the AMAZING service provided by Tanya! I'll come back and specifically ask for her next time, as I'd love to see what else she would recommend that I try! As for the venue, it's beautiful. Very nicely decorated and comfy. We heard that there was a new dim sum place and we just had to check it out since we love dim sum! This is located next to Paris baguette in Herndon, and there is good amount of parking. We went at 11 AM when it just opened which I highly suggest since it does get quite busy around lunchtime so if you want to get a Headstart in order ordering and getting all the food that you want I would recommend going early. They do also take reservations so if you want to reserve ahead of time, you can do that. Inside is very big and ceilings are high and aesthetic. We did the all you can eat brunch option, which is $32 per person and quite affordable for the variety of dim sum plates you get. I will say this is not Cantonese style dim sum, and more top of styles, but the dishes were very good. My personal favorite was the shrimp crystal dumpling and also the lemon shrimp and the Mongolian beef. I also recommend looking at the vegan menu at the vegetable dishes are located there and I didn't realize earlier but wish I did. The fried cauliflower tasted just like Mama changs and it was so good. Our server was really kind and friendly, and the service was very quick. We came here on the weekend for the AYCE dimsum. Priced at $32/person you get to order everything on the dimsum and tapas menu. Ambiance was nice and food presentation was pleasant. However food quality is okay, it tasted like the food was microwaved not fresh. From best to worst of the things we got: Pork Soup Dumplings - so good! The soup and pork was aromatic and very tasty. The skin is thin. The bubble Scallion pancake was also good, but it was a bit stale. Chewy. Cold beef - tasty ma la flavor Shao mai - it was kind of mushy but there are whole shrimps in there! Twice cooked pork belly - tasty The mamas braised pork belly was cold so it was a little hard to eat. salt and pepper shrimp - very interesting take on this dish here. It's more like breaded shrimp from frozen. And lastly the deep fried Pumpkin mochi with red bean was what we got for dessert. Taste just like it sounds. 1/2 a Peking duck - this was the most disappointing item. For $40 there was not much to it. It was also not prepared well as there was a gamey smell and taste. We ordered the Mongolian Beef and the Farmer's Stir Fry (one of my favorite dishes at Mama Chang's), but I'll be for real, I think Mama Chang's is much better. Love coming to Peter Chang! I came here with my family on a Saturday evening for dinner. There were a decent amount of people inside, but we didn't need to wait in line or anything. My favorites that we ordered were the sesame bubble pancake and seafood with crispy rice. The pancake is delicious and photo-worthy! I also like that for the crispy rice dish, the waiters pour the seafood onto the rice when they get to your table so that the rice stays crispy as long as possible. We also ordered a dry pot dish which was fairly spicy so be warned if you're sensitive to spice! Overall, all of the dishes were flavorful and service was good. We waited a while after this restaurant opened before visiting as we wanted to give them a chance to work out any kinks. When we finally got here, it was on a Saturday night around 4:30. One thing to to note---it's easy to miss this place and drive right past it during daylight. It's next door to Paris Baguette but, it's a bit recessed from it. Their sign is black with red lettering that says "Peter Chang". It wasn't easy to see the sign. If you've driven by "Hello India", you have driven too far. Perhaps after dark, the sign lights up and it's easier to spot it. We dined in that day. At that hour, it wasn't very busy but they seemed to only have one server so it took him a while to get to us. Once he got to our table, he was polite and efficient. We started with a pot of tea for two. It said "jasmine tea" but when he brought it, he said it was a fruit tea. It was garnished with flowers and tasted both fruity and flowery and was a bit on the bitter side. We also ordered vegan hot and sour soup for two. This was the least successful item we tried. The soup had very little stock in it and it was just too spicy: the spice overpowered the soup with no relief in sight. Our entrees, on the other hand, were fine. We also ordered "Shanghai veggie spring rolls". They were small and crispy with a mild dipping sauce. Next, we ordered "Hot chili oil ma po tofu". This had a moderately spicy sauce that was far more palatable and tamer than the hot and sour soup. The tofu was cut in big chunks and the sauce was gelatinous but it all worked well together. Finally, we had some "Mongolian beef with scallion onions". This was a tame, mildly sweet dish. It was the first time we had this dish with such a unique sauce, but we enjoyed it all. One thing to note---rice is an extra cost, $1 per bowl. We found, for us, that was enough. As for ambiance---it was tastefully furnished and exuded a casual environment. I imagine when it is busy, it most likely gets loud. During the less busy part of the day, it comes off as light and airy. The second time we got delivery. Peter Chang's works with DoorDash, which we were happy to see. This time we ordered "Amish chicken wonton soup". This soup was much less spicy than the vegan hot and sour soup: it was a full bodied chicken broth with some sliced scallions in it with pillowy soft wontons and tender white meat chicken. We also ordered "Baby bok choy with tofu skins". A large portion of bok choy prepared tender crisp, well executed with a mild sauce. My husband chose to order "stir fry shrimp and scallops". This dish had a generous amount of snow peas, carrot slices and a mild sauce. I chose "Mama's braised pork belly". A mild dish: the pork belly was tender and almost melted in one's mouth. The sauce had an ingredient that I couldn't place (the menu doesn't tell you either) but was enjoyable. We will go back again and also do delivery. Just a note regarding the parking---it is tight. If you are able to back into a spot, we would recommend doing so as the sight lines are not the best when backing out. read more

We have been here multiple times... each time I've avoided to post a review as I think the food approaches at times 5 stars... the service a solid 4 stars... so why only two stars? It's the sound in this space. Everything echos and is amplified... add in the banging from servers clearing and setting tables and you just have a cacophony of noise! Worse depending on the patrons. But we decided the food outweighed that... but the longer I sit here I wonder... this place should be standing room only... I wonder if others like me just don't like the ambiance. Besides sound I wish the menu had descriptions for the entrees. It's hard to figure out the differences in the flounder entrees as an example. Asking doesn't really help. Also things you might not think has peppers does. We order Brussels sprouts and pickled cabbage... it also came with lots of dried hot peppers. Luckily the dish wasn't overly hot for me but I was surprised. So if you're looking for mild please question everything you order. And yes I know the chain is known for their spicy dishes ... but no indication of menu of the level. My last annoyance here is tea and rice are extra... just find this irksome especially rice doesn't come with entrees! So yes I love the food... if noisy isn't a bother that's great... I keep hoping for a nice ambiance... Sorry to give this low rating but necessary as folks determine their dining options. read more

Consistent with other Peter Chang restaurants, this place is awesome! I really enjoy this spot, which has a few staples (scallion pancakes) as well as many small dishes perfect for trying and sharing. The ambiance was nice - modern furnishings and good lighting. Servers were knowledgeable and able to explain the menu and very attentive to water, cleaning the table, and removing empty plates - but they weren't overbearing. The taste of the food was great, each unique and with great flavors. I recommend coming to eat in person, as take-out tends to make crunchy things soggy. Peter Chang's does take out and DoorDash. Parking isn't bad, but can be tight due to the location. read more

I had brunch with some friends at Peter Chang a few weeks ago and had a great time. They offer Bottomless Dim Sum & Tapas on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at brunch time (11:00-3:00) for a set fee (without drinks). We tried several items: Firecracker Salmon Spring Roll (not my favorite, a little dry), Crystal Shrimp Dumplings (good), Steamed Barbecue Pork Bao (very good), vegan cucumber salad (very good), vegan scallion bubble pancake (very good and a showstopper, too), pan-fried veggie dumpling (very good), black sesame egg yolk bao (good), creamy white chocolate walnut bao (good, even though I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate desserts), and glutinous rice ball with egg and rice wine (like a delicious dessert soup?!). With our group of three, we tried about 1/3 of the dim sum menu, and most of it was really delicious. I thought it was a really good value, too. We also had a couple of their brunch drinks, so we were set. The service was good. It wasn't a very fast meal (some items took longer), but we had plenty of time and enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant is large and modern and fun - good vibes, still very casual. Overall, we had a very good time. I'd happily return. Or try another Peter Chang location! read more

I'm here again at my cozy weather staple. Per usual I've attempted to try some new things. I never book a reservation, I just show up. They had plenty of seats. They have a lot of group seating. If you don't know they have tons of entree and small plate options. Peter Chang has become a staple for me when it comes to Chinese food cravings. This isn't your typical run of the mill china king or similar. The authentic flavors that Peter Chang brings is unique and very traditional. The service is amazing and the vibes here are chefs kiss. Nice open setting and the food quality to match! Came here last night for dinner and it was just as good as all the other Peter Chang restaurants that we've dined at. Although it wasn't very busy inside, everything came out piping hot and fresh. The service was wonderful--our waitress spoke English, Cantonese, and Mandarin so it was helpful for me and my parents to order. We ordered: - beef chow fun (which is a MUST with all the flavor and wok hei) - Taiwanese popcorn chicken (which is so light and crispy...dare I say this rivals the chicken at 99ranch and Teas n You) - cauliflower and pork belly spicy numbing pot (good, but not super spicy) - spicy pan seared branzino (would only order this for a large group, but it was tasty and cooked perfectly) - braised tofu w/ basil in clay pot (this was my family's favorite. It came with egg tofu, basil, and mixed mushrooms and my family loved this) - cumin spicy diced lamb (this is a must at the Peter Chang restaurants for my family. So well seasoned and delicious) Overall, the service was wonderful, the ambience and decor was lovely, and food was tasty, fresh, and authentic--just like it is at all the other Peter Chang restaurants. A true 5 stars! Every dish was a stand out but if I have to rate my absolute favorites, I'd say the green peppercorn flounder and the dry fried eggplant. The flounder was soup based with thick clear noodles, potato, and lotus root. This dish was delicious and very balanced. Extremely flavorful and spicy, the fish was tender, and overall it was such a unique dish. You couldn't get it better anywhere else. The eggplant was also incredible. It's rare that you find a CRISPY eggplant. This dish is singular. The eggplant is crispy on the outside but still retains its moisture on the inside. It's like an eggplant French fry. Again, you can't get this anywhere else! So unique and yummy. Peter Chang does it again. 10/10 would recommend for anyone who loves Szechuan food. read more

Had lunch with coworkers for my first visit. We all ordered the Dim Sum Platter Box for $18. Not a bad deal to sample different things from the menu. Thought we could choose the items for it, but turns out it's whatever the Chef chooses for that day. It's not super filling, but enough to make you want more. On the next visit, I wanted to try a bunch of different dishes so we ordered and shared everything family style. First time dining in and tried their weekend brunch. Other than waiting a significant amount of time to place an order, the rest of the experience was great. The brunch orders came out in a timely manner and piping hot, especially the soup dumplings and the spicy crispy eggplants. Their chili oil had lots of flavor, loved the seasoning on the scallion pancake, and the duck bone soup was a nice palate cleanser (and huge portion too). Interior decor was bright with lots of windows and natural sunlight. Server was friendly and accommodating. The black sesame egg yolk custard bao was a delicious way to end the meal.
