Orange Chicken Lunch Special
Christopher S.

Pro - The Szechuan Style Beef Noodle Soup is pretty good, which includes house-made noodles and a rich, hearty broth. At 10.25, the price is acceptable. This is about the only thing worthy of a visit to this Chinese-American establishment. Con - The weekday lunch specials come with a spring roll (they advertise it as an egg roll but when I think of egg rolls, I imagine triple the size with much more filling) and fried rice (this is a joke! it's just white rice tossed in a wok with imitation soy sauce). Unfortunately, there are a lot of Chinese-American food options in Herndon, but none of them are something to rave about. You would need to trek out a bit further to Chantilly, Reston, Vienna, or Falls Church if you are looking for good/great Chinese restaurants.

Ordered pork chow mein expecting noodles because mein = noodles. When you Google "chow mein", it's a noodle dish. When you order chow mein from any other Chinese food restaurant, you get noodles. Instead, we got what is pictured. We called the restaurant and the lady got super defensive and said, "I don't know why customers get confused." Because this ain't chow mein, lady. And if you have to repeatedly call customers to tell them this isn't a noodle dish then that should tell you something. Don't blame the customers for being confused when it's called chow mein.

*Update* Very addictive! I can't get enough. I've spent at least $500 here, and they know my order when I walk in. Good stuff! As a vegetarian, having almost everything on the menu have a vegetarian counter-part was awesome. Area was clean, food was decently quick, and it was about what I expect size wise. My meal came with a container of white rice and a fortune cookie that was uneatably stale, but whatever- it was classically poor in grammar. Something like "Your love life and will be happy soon!". Wooden chopsticks are in a bin to the left of the register if you need them. *edit* I've now come here every day for a week, and I'm still not tired of the Vegetarian Sesame Chicken! Waiting for an orange chicken just to try something else right now. Pro tip! Order the dinner size, even if it's lunch! There's so much food that I always have enough to eat till I'm full (I'm a smaller dude, 140Lbs) but also have enough for a second meal later that night. Total comes to $11 or so, and I'd say that's a great deal for 2 meals! Upgrading to 5 stars as long as they keep the prices like t I'm afraid to write how much I like this place, and how much of a better deal it is honestly than even Lotus Vegetarian down the road because I don't want it to get TOO busy, but it's worth it to make sure they stay busy :)

Poor quality & over priced. I was working near here and decided to stop in for lunch. I had the seafood combo, it was tastless and terrible. Plus I got charged $15 bucks. I don't see how this place can stay in business.

Decided to get Chinese today. This place is a bit small, but it's clean. The food was surprisingly good. It's kind of hidden on the side of this shopping center. The price was decent. Plating of the dishes were nice. I would definitely recommend this place. No complaints from me!

Horrible takeout service. If it is going to take an hour, just say that. Don't tell customers 30 minutes when its really one hour.

What I enjoyed about Yo more than a place like Dumpling District (very similar in menu) was the quality and vibes of the service and atmosphere. The servers were very helpful to explain the dishes to my family members who needed some help. The food hit! The Spicy dry noodles are definitely what drew me to come here and they did not disappoint. My kids loved the pork chops. The seafood soup was loaded! The flavors were exceptional. And for as much food as we order, the price was pretty reasonable! We look forward to our next visit!

For example, the Panfried Pork Bun used to be my favorite item here but they've changed the recipe significantly. The pork filling used to be a lot larger and juicier...but now when you break open the bun, the filling is so small that half of the bun doesn't even have any meat. 80% of the bun is just dough and it's not fried well and quite greasy. Everything overall was way too greasy, including the crueller and the dry noodles were swimming in oil. I did like the texture of the noodles, but unfortunately it was overshadowed by the oiliness of the broth it was sitting in. It's really sad to see this place fall short since it opened a couple years ago. I'm hoping that they can improve their quality of food as it's really gone downhill since opening.

The ambiance inside is casual-classy. It is a good place to eat with coworkers or for a first date. The service was really good as well. Our waiter did a great job presenting our drinks and pouring the matcha lemonade. He made thoughtful recommendations and was very funny too. The food also was high quality and moderately priced. The miso eggplant was a nice sized appetizer for sharing and was seasoned nicely. The chicken ramen was also the perfect amount of spicy, had a good ratio of noodles to broth to vegetables, and was presented well. The dishes paired well with the matcha lemonade, which was aesthetically presented, had a subtle sweet lychee flavor, and was perfectly balanced. I've been to other Jinya's and this experience matched the quality and service of the other times. I'd definitely recommend coming here if you're craving ramen!

On the food side, we ordered the tempura shrimp, which was delicious -- perfect crunch and great flavoring. We also tried the fried chicken, which had a good crunch and tasted delicious, though it was slightly on the oily side. The spicy chicken ramen bowl was good, but honestly I prefer the red fire opal vegan bowl I had on a previous visit -- that one really stood out. As for parking, there are multiple parking garages in the area, so finding a spot isn't an issue.

I've only ever ordered takeout from Kindi Chicken Rice but I liked that the fried chicken was still crispy and juicy when I brought it back home. Would I order again? : I would order again if I'm in the mood. When I was living in Philly, I used to love frequenting Cily Chicken Rice, which was also a Thai-style hainanese chicken rice spot. So, when I moved to NOVA, I was excited to find a similar restaurant nearby. Unfortunately, Kindi Chicken Rice isn't quite as good but it's still pretty decent. The ginger-garlic rice doesn't have enough garlic flavor and was a little dry. Also, I didn't like the ratio of chicken to rice; there was only six pieces of chicken for all the rice that was given. Lastly, the daikon soup had the classic peppery taste but lacked salt/umami flavor. But I did like that the daikon was sliced whereas the daikon in the Cily Chicken Rice soup is just one hunk of daikon.

The one blip was when we first entered, the young-ish man at the host desk looked at us with a "What are you doing here?" grimace. I was stunned since the hosts are usually very happy to see patrons come in. Beyond that, though, we had a lovely time. Our server was quite friendly and got hubs customized Cuban order just right. I had the killer tomato basil soup and tasty grilled cheese. I also got an order to go of the Buffalo Chicken wrap. It was yummy the next day for lunch. We hadn't been to NYAJ's in years.
