    CK21. Taiwan Style Fried Chicken

Went for dinner on Friday evening and the place was empty but buzzing with pickups for take out orders. The interiors are minimal with cute hand paintings on the walls. The hosts are very polite, friendly and accommodating. We had the Taiwanese popcorn crispy chicken, hot and sour soup, Mongolian chicken and mapo tofu. Every single dish was flavorful but the pick was probably the soup and the Mongolian chicken. Definitely coming back again to try more dishes and even take out if it falls in our delivery radius

Dined here while visiting DC over the weekend. The place was small but very efficient. Super friendly and helpful owner. She recommended Hunan fish which was a big hit for us. The fish was tasty and flavorful. The veggies was fresh and perfectly cooked. Stir fried eggplant was very good. Service was really quick and portion was decent. Great place for food!

Service of this spot was excellent! Seemed like the owner of the place. He was so sweet and checked in on us to make sure everything was good :) I was pleasantly surprised by the Eggplant dish. Nice and soft with a not too sweet sauce. I would definitely get it again. Popcorn chicken was good along with the lo mein. The seating is cozy and homey. Felt traditional and welcoming to guests. Definitely visiting again!

This is a well-known Taiwanese restaurant in the heart of Ashburn that has a nice mix of different Asian cuisines. I opted to have the Drunken Beef Noodles, a personal favorite, and was super pleased with the outcome. It tasted flavorful and was plentiful. My friends tried classic Chinese favorites such as the Sesame Chicken & General Tso's. The waitress was extremely nice. She managed to get all the ordered correct and out quickly which was notable as we were a large party. She handled the split checks wonderfully as well and worked well with the manager on cleaning plates as soon as they were completed. Parking is extremely avaiable out front in the Ryan Park shopping center and very close to the Nature Preserve for a nice walk afterwards.

What a hidden Asian gem! Was trying to find an authentic Taiwanese restaurant during my TDY and this restaurant did not disappoint. Owner spoke both Mandarin and Taiwanese and feels quite at home. They have been doing well since 2008. Location is not hard to find but it is behind the Panera plaza, which I drove in first by mistake. The parking lot of the plaza is pretty big so quite easy to park. They have 3 spots reserved for pickup so that's nice for to-go orders! The interior is nice and cozy with only about 7 tables. I came during wee hour (Wed afternoon) so didn't have to wait at all. Order the avocado cucumber salad and the Taiwanese popcorn chicken. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The cucumbers and lettuce were fresh and avocados added making a very refreshing dish. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken was on point. Authentic. Slightly crispy basal leaves, firm and crisp chicken with juicy meat inside. Definitely a must-order if you like chicken. Will definitely come back and try other dishes. Keep ip the good work Yen's Cafe & Fresh Juice!

When a restaurant like this has "authentic" in the description, everybody knows to void it because it will not really have an impact. I was absolutely wrong!!! After discovering this place on Yelp by my office, I decided to stop in to see how this place competes with the local Asian food joints. When I came in, a voice greeted me immediately from the kitchen as the owner rounded the doors and came out to greet me. I was not prepared to be spoken to in a tone that made me feel like I was actually there to be catered to and given a quality experience. The interior is quite small (which honestly adds to the authentic feel) and the music choice is somewhere around Latin America/Spain. I ordered the Thai Fried Chicken (after seeing how delicate it looked on the Yelp previews) and I was surprised. It was served on a small plate with basil with a side of white rice. No sauce or oil of any kind to accompany it. The owner explained that the chicken is instead marinated before being deep fried and has all of the flavor inside. Which I appreciate more than your basic chicken thigh being breaded and then needing condiments to give it any taste. The owner also recommended I eat it with this spice I can only describe as "Old Bay - but Asian" and it was delicious. The fried chicken itself was surprisingly light and very moist and tender. They have a pretty big menu so I am curious if this kind of food quality is able to maintain. I will definitely be putting that to the test! :)

This place is the best!! The food is super fresh and they have a large menu. I have eaten tons of Asian food in my life and my experience is always the same...I retain water afterwards, feel oily and can tell there is a bunch of msg in it. After eating here you can tell that everything is homemade. I didn't have that heavy feeling afterwards. The gentleman that took care of us was so helpful, kind and the service was wonderful. It was very hospitable, I felt like I was being served in someone's home. He told us about the restaurant and how long they have been around I loved their tea and the custard bun was a great way to end the meal I highly highly recommend you try Yens cafe next time you want again food!

I ordered the Taiwanese style "Popcorn chicken" and once it was done, I sat down right away to take a bite. I took three bites and it was so flavorful and all of a sudden I realized when I looked at the chicken it wasn't cooked and raw. I then thought it was just me and took two more bites of the chicken and realized some of the chicken were raw and some were cooked. I was so sad inside. I let the owners know right away and they said would you like us to make you another one. I felt uncomfortable to eat it again and said no thank you I would just like my refund. They asked me if I wanted anything else and I said no thank you. I was just sad because I wanted to really enjoy what I ordered and my stomach felt sick after knowing I ate raw chicken bites when it ate into the chicken. Sadly it was very important for me to write this review because I did get sick from what I ate and have not felt good for the rest of today till the evening. Pleaseeeeee Check your chicken before you order and see if it was done.

But the service (a sole waitress) was not welcoming. She just wanted to get us out of here. No smile either. Many items are already out (they probably do not restock, seeing that they are wrapping up anyway). Location is of course off the grid with no real public transportation. We got some takeout as well; beautifully packaged and presented takeout bento boxes (see my photo). For dining in, the bento box is also beautifully presented. However, for whatever reason, popcorn chicken and appetizers all came in paper boxes rather than on plates even for dining in. That takes a bit of the special feeling away.

To be fair, Momo's Cafe is a bit out of the way and hard to get to (for us, we have to drive through Georgetown on M Street), but it's worth it! TAIWANESE POPCORN CHICKEN - 8.95 The chicken was salted and peppered perfectly, crispy but not overly so. The chicken itself was juicy and tender. This really hit on a rainy day, and I could hardly focus on the conversation with my friend because I was pre-occupied eating the chicken. I could not ask for a better Taiwanese popcorn chicken. BRAISED PORK BENTO - 11.50 This bento came with a lot of food, where 25% of it was braised pork over white rice. There were some sides like sauteed napa cabbage, a bit of pickled vegetables, steamed corn, and an odd assortment of Chinese sausage, fried tofu, and half a tea egg. Everything was good. The braised pork was fatty and juicy, and the sauce was a bit milder than I'd expect, but still flavorful. The sides were all homey and not too over-the-top, which was what I wanted. The corn was cooked with butter and clearly came from a can, but it hit home because that's how my grandma used to cook for me. So I'm not sure if anyone else would like the corn this way, but I did for nostalgia reasons. Also, the prices are actually reasonable?? I wish it was easier to get to Momo's Cafe from where I live -- I'd actually stop by quite often if that was the case. The food is homey and delicious, I'd definitely recommend it!

I have to admit the quality has gone down a tiny bit (some of the food's a little dry, slightly smaller portions, namely the scallion pancake duck roll was mostly veggies instead of meat), but it's still a spot I really enjoy going to for some homey food. You can choose between thick and thin for your noodle soups and I honestly like both even tho I usually like thick noodles. Their soups are nice and brothy, not too rich which I like. On a mid-Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was about ¾ full. We started out with the Wonton Soup and the Spicy Wonton soup. The Wonton soup is just okay, but the Spicy Wonton Soup is wonderful and highly recommended. For another appetizer, we ordered the Scallion Pancake. It has a nice dense texture and I really liked it. It would've been even better if it came with a dipping sauce. We also ordered the pickled cabbage. It was good, though lacking seasoning. Our first entrée was ground pork in a delicious sauce accompanied by sprouts and thinly sliced cucumber (or was that zucchini?). Recommended! Our second entrée was a Pan Fried Beef Bun. The beef was flavorful but the bread was kinda dry. Our last entrée was the Beef Wraps. These were great! Who woulda thunk that beef and fresh carrots would go together so well?! Oh, the chili sauce in a jar on the table is extra tasty. At the end, before we got our check, we were given a plate with sliced cucumbers in a light tasty sesame chili sauce. Excellent! But the hot tea was an epic fail. It had no flavor whatsoever. Peeking inside the teapot, all I could see was a micro tiny tea bag floating or sort of sinking. One other thing I kinda don't want to bring up in light of the great food we enjoyed, but need to in the spirit of full disclosure, is to mention that A&J shares space in the building with several other businesses. The restrooms are common to all the businesses. A&J needs to lean hard on the property owner/manager to do a deep cleaning in those restrooms. I'll leave it at that.
