    Pan 112. Pan-fried Noodle

The pan-fried noodles didn't taste good at all; they tasted horrible, so we didn't eat them. The mangolian beef had a smell, which was unusual because I've never smelled anything off from their food before. I think the management must have changed.

Worst Chinese food I've even had. Order lunch special chow mein. Never had a chow mein like this before. No noodles, instead lots of cabbage. No soy based sauce, instead it was some clear-ish sauce. So bad I basically just threw it out, paid the check and walked across the street to another restaurant. The restaurant doesn't seem to turn the heat on as all the employees were in coats and it was freezing.

I enjoy their lunch specials. They have a nice variety, it comes out fresh, and they are generous with the serving. The cashier is friendly and quick to take my order. The chefs in the back are kind and cook everything in a timely manner. I appreciate that they offer complimentary hot tea. It's sitting on a counter and you help yourself. Sauces, napkins, paper plates, and cups are also on a counter. Plenty of indoor seating is available. People mostly place orders to go or call in for delivery. Their homemade hot sauce is delicious, definitely ask for some of that. Of the many times I've placed take out orders from here, they accidentally gave me the wrong dish once. When I gave them a call, they immediately took down my address and brought me over the right dish. That was very professional of them. I also appreciate that the restaurant is neat and clean. They have a wonderful ventilation system, which is greatly appreciated. You can look into the kitchen as you place your order and everything is super tidy. Love that!

I had a huge HUGE craving for Chinese food. I normally order from EastGate or Asian Cafe but I wanted different options and I didn't want to wait long for the food to be delivered. I got wanton, crab Rangoon, egg roll, chicken mooshu and fried dumplings. Can you tell I had a HUGE craving for Chinese food? The wanton was crispy with one small sliver of meat inside when we opened up two of them. Nothing but crunch the hard kind. We tossed them out. We then went to the egg rolls that were filled with cabbage and ate those. They were ok but wish they were with more than just cabbage. We tried the dumplings next, which was more like bread (not like wanton wrapper or the dim sum dumpling dough), again BREAD with questionable meat inside. :( we split one dumpling - spit it out and threw all of them out. The Crab Rangoon was next up at bat; which was mostly made of melted cream cheese. I opened up the mooshu which looked great! There was a question if there was mushrooms in there or not. So I let my partner eat it as I was unsure even though I put no mushrooms on the order. He said it was good. It was super easy to order online! The delivery was very quick and prompt! The delivery driver was super nice! I would just alter the recipes they use for some of their foods.

Chantilly/South Riding needs this asian chinese restaurant. Good for take out. Tried the Hunan Chicken, seemed OK. Close to Harris-Teeter, get it to go after grocery shoping. The selection here is awesome. They do have a nice big Plasma which is somewhat unusual. The prices are really coming down on those things! They have all the usual you would expect and add something nice; Health Food Section with four steamed chicken and shrimp with veggie options. They also have Thai cuisine. The have 20 Lunch Specials from 11a to 3p Mon to Sat. Delivery for orders over $15. They also have party take out.

Pad Thai with beef had the best noodles, perfectly chewy. Slightly on the sweet side, but very addictive. Good portions Papaya salad was very fresh and tasty. Inside was crowded for lunch, but the patio was empty. Patio was lovely today, beautiful weather. Mango with sticky rice and coconut custard was one of the best desserts we had in a long time. Definitely getting this again. The Thai Coffee with crème brûlée was smooth and creamy, very satisfying. The atmosphere was a bit dated but decorated with numerous Thai artifacts, paintings, photographs, and ceramics, creating a warm and inviting setting. The Khanom Jeep, a Thai steamed dumpling, was dry with a thick skin and a somewhat bland flavor, while the Kuay Tiew Moo Toon (stewed pork noodle soup in herb broth) from their Thai Select menu was outstanding. The pork was tender, complemented by meatballs and bean sprouts for added texture, and the black peppers and spices balanced the sweetness perfectly. My wife and I finally decided to try this place after years of saying "one day". We've now ordered twice in the past 2 weeks. The first time we ordered the Ka Prow fried rice and the drunken noodles with medium spice and chicken. I ordered the lunch size drunken noodles and it was a good amount of food! They were the best drunken noodles I've had around here by far. And the Ka Prow fried rice was so smoky and full of flavor! It makes all other fried rices feel boring in comparison. This time I ordered the Kao Soi chicken. It had a delicious red curry sauce and two whole chicken legs with the egg noodles. I loved how rich the flavor of the soup is. The full grilled squid was something we ordered on our first time and it was also really good but I think a tad overcooked. I can't really speak to service other than the staff being friendly when I've walked in to grab our order. But the inside of the restaurant is cozy. We will definitely keep coming back here and highly recommend it if you're in the area.

But what we did get was pretty darn good (if a bit pricey)! The style is much more authentic, so if you're looking for something like Hunan Cafe (Greenbriar), or that NOVA institution China King, this is different. Is it better? For the most part, yes. (But I still crave that Americanized sweet, spicy, glazey brown sauce that comes in slight variations in so many dishes). I had the hot and sour soup, Szechuan spicy fried eggplant sticks, Taiwanese rice noodles with fried tofu, and the Chengdu twice cooked pork. Everything was excellent, except....the hot and sour soup. Honestly, Hunan Cafe and China King beat the pants off this place's hot and sour soup. Here, it was a bit too sweet. It had some red chilies in it, but I could not detect much white pepper. And it's a vegetarian version, so no small bits of chicken or pork. I'd skip this the next time I order from here. But the other dishes... amazing! The noodles were light-tasting but still delicious. The eggplant was garnished with cilantro, garlic, salt, and red chili sauce. The twice cooked pork was sauteed with sliced leeks and the same red chili sauce. I think that's the fresh, zingy, spice flavor profile I like that can't be found at Americanized Chinese restaurants. Sure, China King has its place and I'll still go back there when I'm close (RIP China King Fair Lakes and Herndon). And admittedly, I go to that awful Panda chain occasionally because I never learn. The unfortunate thing is, I'll more likely go to these places than Cheng's because of the price. The pork dish was $21 and the noodle dish was $19. My total bill came to $60 before tax and tip. If I need to stuff my face with a Chinese umami bomb fast, I'm probably going to the other places for $15-30. I do want to try the rest of the menu at Cheng's, but it's going to be a drawn-out process for the sake of my wallet. I'd be remiss if I didn't include a comment from my dining partner. She compared the quality and taste of the food at Cheng's to Peter Chang's (either Peter Chang's-Herndon, or Mama Chang Fairfax). A high compliment. But she said the value is better at those places' AYCE options than what we got at Cheng's, and I agree. If you've been to none of these places, you have to try them all at least once.
