This is our first time here and we wanted something different! This place was absolutely delicious, the service was quick and friendly. The place needs more attention, we watched people look at the outside menu and pass by. They are wonderful and we will be back again very soon. Thank you very much Summer for being great and having patience with us on the first visit.

This place is worth it. The taste of this beef noodle soup was divine, flavorful, mouthwatering. So freaking good. Same goes for the crispy beef. Very large portion worth the price. I recommend this place 100 perfect. Friendly and speedy staff. Very attentive.

This is our go-to place in the area. Always solid and dependable. Never had a bad experience. Is it amazing? No, but it hits the spot.

You get good food at reasonable prices. Some of my favorites include Crispy Shredded Beef in Spicy Sauce, Fried Chicken Nuggets with Basil (a Taiwanese native favorite), and Wrinkled String Beans. Crispy Shrimp with Honey Walnuts is also really good. They offer a wide variety from stir-fries and noodle dishes to seafood, pork, beef, and vegetarian/vegan-friendly options. The kitchen is very accommodating. If you want milder spice, less oil, or custom tweaks, they seem pretty open to it. Because it's not one of those fancy places, the vibe stays relaxed and unpretentious, which I personally like. It's nice for families, friends, or a simple meal out without fuss. And only if…read moreyou're trying to recapture a memory or two of this place from over 20 years ago when the foodscape in this area was different. I think China King beats this place hands-down. But China King Herndon is gone. And this place, along with Mr. Pepperoni and maybe a few other stores here, has managed to continue on for nearly 25 years. It's been probably a decade since I've been here and I used to semi-regularly have lunch here 24 years ago. The strip mall this is in was redone a few years ago and looks nice. Unfortunately, Chen's owners haven't done anything inside. Upon walking in, I was met with an indescribable odor. Not pleasant, but not completely of rot and decay. Some portions of the wall and decorations are showing signs of abandonment. The tables and chairs are old. The floor tile is old. The wall hangings are old. The AC unit that spins up every few minutes is vintage. The menu board behind the counter is ancient. There is nothing here that merits a dine-in experience. The narrow area toward the back and left of the kitchen that used to be seating is now open storage. I had second thoughts and almost decided to walk out. But I craved the spicy stewed beef noodle soup that I first tasted more than 20 years ago, so I risked it. First, a few conditions described by other recent reviewers still exist. There are two children, presumably of the owners, playing in the dining room. Two of the tables and a few boxes on the floor are strewn with the owners' and kids' belongings and snacks. One child is still a toddler and sitting in a high chair while the other pushes her around. They're cute and not particularly rude or bothersome, but it's hard to not be concerned and distracted. The younger woman taking orders from behind the counter would often disappear into the kitchen for minutes while other customers entered the store and were waiting. That was a good sign though: there were about 4 other customers who came to pick up orders while I was waiting for mine. The wait was a bit longer than I expected, but one person who was there before me ended up walking out with a pretty large order, so that might have slowed the kitchen down. I ordered the beef noodle soup and the spicy wontons. Note: I mis-ordered. I really wanted the stewed beef soup but accidentally got this other soup. So beware there are two similarly listed beef noodle soups. The drive home was about 12 minutes. The wontons were lukewarm so a 30 second zap in the microwave remedied that. The soup broth was still steaming hot. The meal also came with a fried spring roll, unexpectedly. The spring roll was crispy on the outside and not so pleasantly mushy on the inside. It's just a carb bar. The wontons were alright. Good spice on the sauce. But they just weren't tasty. The noodles and toppings came well-packaged in a plastic bowl. As you can see in the photos, i reassembled everything into proper dishes. The noodles were quite good with a little bit of chewiness. The cabbage and bean sprouts also were good and seemed fresh. The beef, well, wasn't what I expected. Part of that was because I mis-ordered. The beef was perhaps lean sirloin. The type of cut that's done for stir fries. Some pieces were tough and chewy while other pieces were tender and seemed they had been velveted in the cooking process. Overall, the soup was mildly satisfying (the broth was quite good), but I was disappointed about not getting to try the spicy stewed beef soup again after more than 20 years. Having seen the condition of the front of the restaurant (and now worried about what the condition of the back of the restaurant might be), I'm not so inclined to go back. Even for just a dribble of that spicy stewed beef soup still occupying my memory.

I looked at the reviews, which are mixed, with some who really like the food but some who were naysayers. Still, we thought it was worth a try. One thing mentioned in a review is that there are currently only two tables in the place. Thus, we were glad to discover that they work with DoorDash. We placed an order this past Sunday. We ordered two hot and sour soups, one order of chicken with snow peas and one order of spicy chicken with garlic sauce. As an aside, rice comes with each entree. We didn't know that so we had ordered one side of rice. As for the food, the portions are large. We got two meals out of them. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. The chicken with snow peas was a mild dish that came with an abundance of white meat chicken and a generous amount of snow peas. The snow peas had a nice crunch to them. The chicken with garlic sauce was mildly spicy and contained white meat chicken, sliced onions, and sliced celery. It reminded me of the same dish I had many years ago: same ingredients, same taste. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish. The hot and sour soup was okay. We've had better, but we've also had worse. If you like button mushrooms, they put a lot of them in this soup. We decided that we would order from them again.

The woman who was working the front of the house was very nice. She told us to pick a table and take a seat. Once we had done so, she brought us menus. The place could use some refurbishing as the tables were old and sticky. After looking over the menu, we both ordered hot and sour soup. For my entree, I chose ma po tofu while my husband chose a dish that had scallops and shrimp. To drink, I got a ginger ale. It came in a can, and it was Lidl's house brand. My husband had a beer. As the evening progressed, we noticed that they do a good takeout business. Eventually, a young man came into work, which was no doubt a good thing as the nice lady was getting very busy. As for the food, the hot and sour soup was okay. Not as much stock in it as we would have preferred. The ma po tofu was spicy, but not to the point where the spice overpowered the other flavors. It did contain a spice that we didn't recognize. My husband noticed that same spice in his entree. Please keep in mind that rice incurs an additional cost. We both chose to have brown rice. Their menu has a page that lists Thai and Malaysian dishes. Our feeling is that if we wanted one of those cuisines, we would go to a restaurant that specialized in those foods. Overall, it was an "OK" experience. We appreciated the friendly service.

With the prices up and the quality down, I'd try other places instead. Disappointing.

I was here twice over the last two months. The first time, I ordered off the regular menu. The second time, I did the AYCE dim sum/tapas. Obviously, ordering a la carte, you'll get larger portions. You can't go wrong here, especially if you're getting one of the AYCE specials (there's a similar one at Mama Chang's). I want to note though, three of the dishes have the same flavor profile, just different main ingredients: spicy dry fish, spicy dry cauliflower, and dry fried spicy eggplant. They use dry fried red chili and ground Szechuan peppercorn. If you like this, great! Just know it's the same seasoning across these dishes. I didn't take photos of everything, but if it's braised pork xxxx, get it! I will gladly return to this location or Mama Chang's for another AYCE adventure.

Located off of busy Centreville Road in Herndon, DMV legendary restaurateur Peter Chang opened this latest establishment in September 2024. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended for their Bottomless weekend brunch; and especially if you have a large group, as we did. There is limited parking right in front, but drive a bit further for a larger lot across the street within a 2-3 min walk. The interior is modern with the familiar high ceilings, exposed duct work, faux greenery, and Asian themed artwork. Combined with the choice of almost tropical like tables and chairs, the decor was giving off serious Malaysia vibes. When our server arrived, she explained that diners could choose items from EITHER the Chinese Tapas or Traditional Dim Sum menu, which is awesome since this allows for the culinary options of over 45+ items!!! Depending on the size of your group, I would suggest ordering 6-8 items at a time, since the plates are small (about a 1-2 person serving size). And TBH, I like this style of AYCE as opposed to the the usual long steam tables of food which just sits underneath heat lamps, and has tongs which have been handled by lots of people...yuck! And for the restaurant, it helps to limit food waste. Over the next 90 minutes (time limit for the AYCE brunch), we sampled so many items, but some of the standouts were: * Crystal Shrimp Dumpling (har gow) - wrapper wasn't too thick, and the shrimp filling was plentiful and had excellent flavor * Steamed pork and shrimp shu mai - very good version of a dim sum staple. * Beef Chow Fun - noodles could've had more "wok hei" flavor, but beef was tender and not too salty. * Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) - good amount of seasoned soup inside the wrapper with tasty pork filling * Salt and pepper shrimp - peeled shrimp was flash fried, but not rubbery. It was topped with a salty peppery crunchy topping. We had several rounds of this dish. * Black Sesame egg yolk bao - creamy and not too sweet eggy filling, inside the soft black sesame bao I will detract one star for the service, however. Im my estimation, the place is understaffed for the volume of customers. Water and tea was a bit slow to arrive (after 8 min of sitting down) and it was challening to flag down our server to order more items; hence the reason it's recommended to get multiple dishes at one time. But at the end of the meal, everyone was quite pleased and satisfied, most importantly, mom and dad enjoyed the experience. When the check arrived, our party of 10 had ordered 40 items. With tax and tip, the total came out to a tad under $400. Tbh, for the quality and variety of food, $40/person is a good deal. I can definitely envision Peter Chang's weekend bottomless brunch being a monthly occurrence for me.
