    Tofu with jalapeño salt
    John B.

I came seeking something easy on the stomach, but good on the tastebuds. I landed a lightly seasoned tofu dish with a mouthwatering onion and pepper flavor, and a convincingly decadent chocolate cake. Plenty of other options were available for when I get my tolerance for spicy food back, as the place leans Szechuan. Takeout was an efficient process even though they did not take online payments; I just paid when I got there. The location is a bit past the airport, which is probably a better place to look for Chinese food than most of downtown DC.

I've found Cheng's to be a reliable go-to when I am craving good Chinese food. Their portions are generous, and many dishes are packed with bold flavor and freshness, whether you are in the mood for something spicy, savory, or mild. You get good food at reasonable prices. Some of my favorites include Crispy Shredded Beef in Spicy Sauce, Fried Chicken Nuggets with Basil (a Taiwanese native favorite), and Wrinkled String Beans. Crispy Shrimp with Honey Walnuts is also really good. They offer a wide variety from stir-fries and noodle dishes to seafood, pork, beef, and vegetarian/vegan-friendly options. The kitchen is very accommodating. If you want milder spice, less oil, or custom tweaks, they seem pretty open to it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Because it's not one of those fancy places, the vibe stays relaxed and unpretentious, which I personally like.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's nice for families, friends, or a simple meal out without fuss.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also like to order take-out. :)

Awesome fresh vegetarian food.. very good service and a wonderful unrushed pace. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy, homey ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Quite the surprise gem in a small strip mall location! Do give this place a try.

The food was fantastic! The service through DoorDash was quick too! I ordered the pork with no spice and the garlic spinach and it was absolutely delicious!! This is my first time ordering from here and I would definitely order from here again!! Yummy Chinese food!!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]With 800+ reviews, expected the place to be bustling, but just one other table at arrival.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Happy to say, the glowing reviews were spot on - lunch was delish. Got Thai sautéed fish & cumin lamb - two dishes my fam wouldn't normally eat so I indulge when I can. Lamb was tender, not gamey; fish was moist in yummy sauce. The default stir fry veggies tend to be onions & peppers which aren't a top fav; and brown rice is extra cost - otherwise, no other complaints. Come out & give them some love.

This place is spectacular - probably one of the most authentic Chinese cuisine in the area. The owners are so nice and very welcoming. They come and greet you and have meaningful conversations with you. They explain everything that you ask and even tell you where they got the fish that day. The fried fish is market price, of course. It ranges from $50-$60 but very worth. It can feed 6 people, if you know how to divvy it up. Very tasty with their homemade marinate. The skin was also crispy as well. Highly recommend this restaurant - try out the fried fish. The restaurant looks very modern with a hint of Chinese decor. It's a very nice place for a casual dinner.

Cheng's spring rolls with shrimp and vegetables.

I was planning to attend a jewelry and gem show at the Dulles expo center on the behest of my elderly friend. We decided to eat lunch prior to attending this event. There were so many unique Yelp recommendations in Chantilly but decided to choose Cheng's because it was table service, which would be easier for her. I have no regrets! Cheng's truly has many authentic Chinese dishes on the menu similar to Chinatown NYC. For the less adventurous there are the typical Chinese American dishes and some Thai. We shared the spring rolls, seafood delight handmade noodle soup and Governors chicken (kung pao). The chicken was delicious and not ladened with gloppy sauce. The spring rolls were greaseless and the soup was a generous portion with noodles that had a satisfying chew. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was inviting and the service was warm and efficient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Water and ice teas were automatically refilled. Though I live almost an hour away, I'm actually contemplating returning with my husband because it was that good!

    Fried Pork Chops

Food was great! We got our food to go so the crispy items weren't crispy anymore by the time to eat, but the flavor was there. The fried pork chops were juicy and flavorful. Eggplants were string beans were very yummy, cooked to perfection not too soft. Calamari was soggy, won't get again for carry out. Crispy beef was not crispy and the beef was a bit chewy but the flavor was great. The fried chicken wings were okay, nothing special. The lamb was a bit gamey.

A solid spot for sharing with a group, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to love this place. The soup dumplings are among the better ones in the area. While the wrappers aren't as thin or chewy as the very best, you can tell they're handmade, and I'll always appreciate that. I'd recommend sticking with the pork soup dumplings since they were rich, savory, and full of umami. The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. I enjoy the home-style cooking, and it's the kind of restaurant that's especially fun to visit with a larger group so you can sample a variety of dishes.

There are more Shanghai and spicy selections than I remember. The dining room hasn't changed much, fairly plain wood tables. I was greeted immediately and brought tea. There is a Shanghai Tapas menu and a main menu. I got the Shanghai Style Kimchi. It was cabbage with some hot peppers and a ginger dressing, refreshing and delicious. The hot and sour soup had a lot of tofu in it which I like. The pork and shrimp soup dumplings could have use more shrimp and some additional seasoning. The bill was $30 before tip. So why not just go to Peter Chang and get as many small plates as you can eat for $28? I really think restaurants should have lunch menus.

We didn't know how big the portions were since the menu didn't have any pictures. We relied on the photos from yelp or google. We ordered the beef noodle soup with wide noodles (clear broth), peking beef wrap, cucumber salad, braised pork rice, pan fried pork dumplings, steamed pork dumplings, and fried pork chop over rice. The beef noodle soup was good and clean but I would get the thin noodles next time. The wide noodles weren't as bouncy as I would've liked. I would come back for the cucumber salad and the peking beef wrap. All of our orders came reasonably on time after each other but we were still waiting on the fried pork chop over rice. Time passed as we almost finished with all of our dished until we asked one of the servers if our fried pork chop was coming. The server looked at our receipt order and acknowledged we did order it but told us it was sold out. Not one staff told us it was sold out when we placed the order or even when our other orders came out. We've been waiting this whole time expecting the fried pork chop not knowing it was sold out. We were asked if we wanted something else to replace the order and we decided to get the fried chicken over rice.

Our group of five sampled a great variety from the menu, including the Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Cumin Fish, Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin, Crispy Pork Ribs with Scallion Crisps and Mixed Grain & Purple Rice, Stir-Fried Beef with Chilies, and Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. The standout for me was the cumin fish. It was fried perfectly--crispy without being greasy--and the cumin added great flavor without overpowering the dish. The crispy pork ribs lived up to their name and had a nice kick of spice. The cucumber salad packed a serious garlic punch, which I really enjoyed. The Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin was something completely different from what I expected. It's sliced into long ribbons that resemble noodles or pasta. The flavor was excellent, although the texture took some getting used to. The only dish that fell a little short was the stir-fried beef tenderloin, which could have used a bit more seasoning. Everything else was delicious. The portions are enormous. At first the prices seemed a little high, but once the food arrived it made perfect sense. Every entrée was easily enough for two meals. One thing to keep in mind is that rice is ordered separately and isn't included with the entrées. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We arrived for lunch and didn't realize they close between lunch and dinner (lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). We ended up staying until about 2:45, and the staff never made us feel rushed even though they had technically closed. They greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without hovering. The restaurant is tucked away on the ground floor of an office building, so it's easy to drive right past if you aren't looking for it. Parking was plentiful, and the oversized booths comfortably fit all five of us without feeling cramped. If you're dining with a group and want to sample a variety of authentic dishes, Mama Chang is definitely worth the visit.

I ordered the pork and chive dumplings and they were perfectly cooked with that crispy bottom and soft chewy top, just how they should be. The filling was super flavorful and juicy and the dipping sauce they give you on the side is the perfect balance of savory and tangy. My friend got the soup dumplings and she said they were some of the best she has had outside of NYC, like bursting with hot broth when you bite into them and the pork inside was so tender. We also shared the scallion pancakes and oh my god they were so flaky and crispy and came with this delicious dipping sauce that I could have eaten with a spoon lol. Everything just tasted so fresh and made to order, you can tell they really care about the quality of the food. The staff was really friendly too. Our server checked on us multiple times and answered all our questions about the menu since it was our first time. She recommended a few things we would not have tried otherwise and we were so glad she did. The whole place has this casual cozy vibe with cute decor and they were playing some nice background music that fit the atmosphere. Now for the not so great parts and why its four stars instead of five. The wait time is honestly brutal. We got there around 7 on a Saturday night and waited like forty five minutes for a table. The place is pretty small so they can only seat so many people and there is not a lot of room to wait inside so we were kind of crowded by the door. They dont take reservations either which is frustrating. The other thing is that the portions are a little small for the price. The dumplings are not cheap and you only get like six in an order which is not a ton if you are really hungry. We ordered three things between two people and still left a little hungry, we should have gotten more but the prices add up quick. Also the seating is tight, like you are really close to the people next to you so not the best spot for a private conversation. And the parking in Clarendon is always a pain, we circled around for a while before finding a spot a few blocks away. Overall the food is fantastic and I will definitely be back because those dumplings are calling my name lol. Just come with patience and maybe go during off hours if you can. Four stars and I will be dreaming about those soup dumplings until my next visit.

I can't comment on the service or ambiance as this food was delivered. The portions were large. I was taken a back since the lo mein and eggplant were lunch portions, and usually you can expect a small serving, but not at this restaurant. Also, the lunch entrees came with a side of soup, which made this an even better deal (both were $13.95). While the food was delivered hot and packaged well, some of the items were great, and some fell flat due to texture issues. I really like the fried crab wontons, lo mein, and hot and sour soup. They hit the spot. I didn't enjoy the Hunan shrimp as the shrimp didn't taste fresh and had an odd texture to it. The eggplant also was overcooked so was somewhat a sloppy, dough like consistency when eating, which was kind of off putting. If returning, I would opt for the lo mein and soup.
