Soup A21. Six Piece House Hand Made Dumpling

I love everything! This really satisfies my craving for Chinese food not in just taste but in ambiance. In DC there is a tendency to have everything newly renovated, efficient, and to commercialize the small business. This place has really kept its charm, its still a brick-and-mortar restaurant that has hand-painted decals on the wall. We were immediately greeted by welcoming staff. The pleasant part of this experience was how encouraging the customers were. Once we told the waiter it was our first time there, those listening were eager to tell us what to order, but overall everyone said that everything on the menu was delicious! I think that's a really good sign that they have been here for a long time, kept people well fed, and most heart warmingly, kept people well taken care of. We trusted the opinion of our waiter and got a variety of really good dishes that were also affordable! I really appreciate a Chinese restaurant that sticks to nostalgic flavors. Nothing too sweet. We got to really taste the umami that's brought out of steamed pork and smokiness from chili oil. There is also a really underrated tea selection and over time we were realizing that the tableware was adorable down to the spoons and tea pots!

Shanghai is unassuming from the outside. Inside is big with flavor. Asian fusion restaurants you never know what there take on " fusion" will be. This establishment crushes it. The kung pao chicken was amazing. It level of spice was at the perfect amount of heat. Just enough to create a level of flavor without being overwhelming. I loved it. The service was ok. They did their job but were unconcerned if I enjoying my meal. I would have stayed longer to complement the chef and order more food.

Stopped by this location after an afternoon in the Dumbarton oaks garden - absolutely a pleasure to speak with the staff. It's a pretty laid back shop that gets a ton of to go orders with both Chinese Chinese & American Chinese food where both sides are quite delicious. Will come back for the dry hot pot !

My only gripe with this place is that it's all the way in Georgetown Otherwise, everything is pretty on point. Service is good. Food is excellent. Top dishes I'd recommend: - soup dumplings - general tso's (SO crispy and good) - salt & pepper prawns (huge and crispy!) When I heard this place won AWARDS for general tso's I was like... Ok how good can it really be right Lemme tell you, it can be pretty freaking good. I was amazed every time I took another piece of chicken. Highly recommend

The intestines were my favorite part of the meal!! It was not too fatty and had a little kick of spice to it. If you can eat intestines, I highly recommend. It's on their new menu. Also on the new menu, we got the sweet and sour pork. The pork does have bones in it, but the sauce is delicious. This was my friend's favorite. For a veggie dish, we ordered the mapo tofu. I thought this was lacking compared to other mapo tofus I've had but I usually like more meat and smaller softer tofu in my mapo tofu. You might really like this. Service was good and quick. Everyone there spoke Chinese and were very friendly. The interior of the restaurant is decorated nicely. Check out this place for more authentic chinese food if you're in Georgetown!

The young lady took my order over the phone for dumplings that I needed for my sons project. They werent on the menu so they were made to order! Wow! That's impressive. While I waited, I ordered the lunch special; the shrimp and vegetables came with steamed rice and a spring roll. The rice was moist and not old and hard the way I've experienced lately! Also, the sauce with this dish was superb...there are no imposters here! I was really pleased. It's been a long time since someone got the sauce right. The ambience inside is quaint but very colorful. There is authentic art on the walls that is by a Shanghai artist. I will definitely be back!

Amazing place! Many menu items... the ambiance is just perfect. A small, friendly place with big flavors and fantastic flawless service. On Sunday, it was easy street parking. Great portions, and both of my items were perfect, I can't wait to go back and try other entrées.

Was really craving some soup dumplings and found this place through Yelp in Washington Georgetown. It isn't a big place but the owner is pretty sweet. The pan dry hotpot was decent and the soup dumpling was not bad too. The milk tea was surprisingly good too, not overly sweet like most places. It is a nice Asian fusion place.

Cozy, authentic Shanghainese restaurant & bar that harkens back to my childhood. It's a family business that serves both lunch and dinner and focuses on preparing classic dishes carefully. It sets itself apart with friendly and efficient tableside service. The fixed-price lunch menu is a great value. And that's saying something for Georgetown. I adore the orange chicken here. The very fresh citrus sauce gives the dish a noticeable depth that's lacking at other Chinese eateries. The garlic pork entrée has a real zing; it features a lovely dark sauce that brings out the flavor of all the ingredients. Not to be missed are the house handmade dumplings -- they're marvelous. The dumplings can be stuffed with various fillings. I get the vegetable ones, and make sure they're pan-fried. An excellent dipping sauce accompanies this appetizer. The miso soup is not the best, however. I've been a customer off and on since they opened, in 2011. Shanghai Lounge has staying power for all the right reasons. It's worth a trip.

This food is so good!!! This might be the best mapo tofu I've ever had!!! The people are also very friendly. I love real Sichuan food and it can be hard to find, so this is my new favorite!

Kang C4. Kung Pao Chicken after we ate the chicken

Just ordered for the first time in a year or so. Uber delivery. Disappointed. Used to be top notch Chinese food. Went from B+ to C leval food. The memory of slightly crispy Kang Pao chicken with lots of chicken and peanuts and a sauce with a kick to it is now replaced with slightly soggy chicken with lots of green peppers, onions and a handful of peanuts in an uninspired sauce. Don't worry about eating a hot pepper because there were none. LO Mein with chicken. Consisted of overcooked noodles in a bland sauce with chicken? Yup, after hunting for a couple of minutes I found a few slivers of chicken hiding beneath the bland noodles. Perhaps 50 cents worth of protein. Another one is off our list.

I came because I heard someone rave about the vegetarian dumplings --they were solid. Quite large and filled with mushrooms, onions, green vegetables and seasoning. I ordered the veggie buns as well, but it's the same filling as the dumplings so no need to order both. I enjoyed both. I also ordered the kung pao tofu which was okay. Some of the tofu pieces were fried too hard and made it difficult to chew. The flavor was spot on. I would return and possibly try a different tofu dish, but it appears that they are better with the meat dishes so I'm not sure if it's the most comfortable option for vegetarians. Nevertheless, I liked my experience overall.

I'm not a fan of saucy food. The noodles were fantastic. I feel like we ordered wrong, although my girlfriend picked everything except the noodles. This is not a place to visit if you're looking to lose weight. The hard sugar in the eggplant alone was more than I consume in two months. I'm probably not in the best position to rate our dinner as I avoid carbs and sugar. If I were to come back, I'd stick the noodles and revisit the menu to see if there is a solid chicken option. I came here hungry and left hungry as the food was not filling, and the sugar content sent my system into a bit of a shock. Nonetheless, if this cuisine is your thing, you won't be disappointed.

The dining area is one room, from what I could see, but very clean. You can see the kitchen where there are stacks of steamer baskets used for the soup basket. Some table had printed drinks menu but we got a handwritten one. All the menus are laminated and you're given a whiteboard marker to mark what you would like to order. We ordered some appetizers/snacks along with soup dumplings and the crispy coconut shrimp balls. Shortly after ordering, the side dishes and appetizers appeared. The dough sticks were a simple beige food for the child who happily munched on it. It's a fried dough sticks that didn't seem too greasy. Each half can still break into two smaller sticks for smaller bites. Traditionally it's paired with soy milk but we had already ordered a lot of food. The cucumber garlic salad was crispy, flavorful, and slightly sweet. Little threads of carrot added a bit of textural difference and color. The garlic provided a small bite without overpowering the fish. It's a kid-friendly dish as long as they are okay with cilantro! This is a must order. The scallion pancake with beef with also a huge hit. It's crispy and flaky (but not crumbly) and it's served with slices of beef, what appeared to be some sweet sauce (hoisin maybe?) and thinly shredded scallions. It was similar to Peking Duck but with a scallion pancake and beef instead of the thin pancake and duck. The thinly shredded scallions add a bit of a kick and freshness that counteracts the oil from the scallion pancake. The coconut-crispy shrimp balls were a huge hit. This dish was whole, headless, fried shrimp tossed in a sweet sauce then dusted with shredded coconut, served with some slices of pineapple. It reminded us a bit of mayo-shrimp dishes but with coconut. An order of the chicken soup dumplings were placed just because most of the soup dumplings contain pork. It was recommended over the other non pork shrimp and zucchini dumplings. They don't seem very hot until you get your first big bite. Took a nibble, drank some of the broth, and then with a bigger bite realized there was still more broth! Ginger, soy sauce, and chili crisp/oil is available on the table, but the juicy soup dumplings were perfect on their own. The steamer of rainbow dumplings was also quickly devoured with the black truffle (pork), mala spicy pork, and shrimp/zucchini being the favorites. Each soup dumplings had its own unique taste. Upon hearing the shrimp/zucchini was liked because it was refreshing, an order of those were also placed. Once they arrived, I had to agree they were very good. They have a different taste and texture and even though I thought the chicken was good, I found myself quickly devouring the steaming soup dumplings. While we ate, our drinks were constantly refilled and we were asked if we needed anything, even ginger slices.
