They share their space with a Kung Fu Tea, and thanks to some awkward spacing on their current signage, I thought they were actually a dojo. Once I realised, I went in. This is not a restaurant but a food hall, and it feels like a cafeteria inside. It's a definite "get your food and go" kind of place: the fact that my "for here" order came packed to go helps emphasize that (and, PLEASE, can we consider the amount of single use plastic waste as a result of that? I don't need lids and such....) I ordered the tripe app and rainbow soup dumplings. The tripe was very good, with just a touch of spice. Americans might consider it a medium? The dumplings were surprisingly good and I would rank them with many other good dumpling places. Service was good. Food was delicious. It feels like it's only a matter of time before Dumpling District completely loses its regulars. My family and I have been coming here since way back when it was Nanxiang Express. Back then, it was a genuinely high-quality, legit spot for soup dumplings, but recently the standards have slipped noticeably. The overall food quality has definitely dropped off. With Nancianf opening up a location over at Columbia Mall, Dumpling District is in serious trouble--they are definitely going to lose our business, along with a lot of locals who remember how good the food used to be. Soup dumplings are supposed to be the main highlight of this restaurant, but the execution has really gone downhill lately. The rice cakes and the salty sticky rice roll are pretty good. My wife was craving the chicken and broccoli w/ brown sauce. I was not a fan of this dish. The broccoli tasted bitter and the chicken seemed low quality. I wouldn't get this dish again. The noodles with scallion sauce was good. The noodles stuck together and the scallions in the dish were bitter, but the taste was decent. This is a small casual dumpling and cantonese chain that shares space with a tea-house. Look for the Luna Hall sign along the east side of the Chatham Station Shopping Center strip mall. There's plenty of parking in the lot just outside from the restaurant. Seats around 20 mostly at tables for four, with probably 20 more tables in the attached tea-house next door. We arrived in the early afternoon on a Friday, and there were only two or three other full tables. We ordered from a touch-screen by the register at the back counter. Food was served in take-out containers, and looked fabulous. We asked for plates, and collected up our chopsticks and forks and sauces and napkins by the register. We got the 6-variety "rainbow" soup dumplings, a sticky-rice roll, and a cucumber salad. We got a soda, and it would have been easy to get tea from the attached next-door tea-house. Salad was fresh and flavorful and generous with a bright cilantro dressing. Every dumpling was hot and juicy and tender, with good flavor. We felt that fillings were good, but not extraordinary. The "crab and pork" and "truffles and pork" dumplings were predominantly pork. The sticky-rice roll was dense and lightly flavored, nice with soy and vinegar sauce. The black truffle soup dumpling and the shrimp pork chive dumpling were outstanding. I could eat a whole batch myself. The pan fried dumplings were exactly what were promised, but the amount of filling was inconsistent and I like my dumplings a little fluffier. They may have been denser because I got it as take out. I'm not sure if it would be different had I eaten there. As for the scallion pancake, I would not order that again. It was fried and that's not the way I prefer it. I come here every couple of months to meet my family half way. Now after a few times I have found my way around the menu and have selected my faves. The black truffle pork dumplings I believe are the most flavorful of the soup dumplings. Nothing beats shoving that delicious sweet cherub in your mouth and feeling that broth explode in your mouth. We came for the first time on a Saturday evening at 5:30 pm. It was not crowded yet until 6 pm. You place your order with the cashier or kiosk at the front counter. There is a lot to choose from the menu so you may want to study it beforehand on their website. Everything we ordered was made fresh so we waited 15-20 minutes. We tried the pork soup dumplings (6 pieces), pan fried pork buns (6 pieces), and steamed Shanghai Shu Mai (4 pieces). Your number is called at the counter for pick up. Everything was tasty, but not large. The dining area is small, but you can also sit next door at tables for Kung Fu Tea, which has a larger space. Only these 2 businesses are currently part of Luna Hall. The only negative point is the price, which is $1-$2 higher than other dim sum restaurants, considering that this is a not a sit-down place with wait staff. After trying soup dumplings for the first time I was looking for an option that didn't require me to travel out of state to satisfy my cravings and this is now my go to restaurant for them! Their mala soup dumplings are my all time favorite and to mix things up I usually get the black truffle soup dumplings and pan fried pork buns to split as well. The food is excellent and the staff are very kind, they also offer dim sum and bubble tea options as well. There are two seating areas which are clean and inviting with nice decor including a graffiti wall. Not a massive restaurant but definitely a good spot for a group of up to 8 people. This place has has delicious, authentic, fresh, made to order dumplings! We like it so much that we go there at least twice a week. My favorites are the rainbow dumplings with the variety of flavors in one steaming hot container. And also the pan fried buns. Everything we have gotten there have been amazing. You can order in the restaurant or online. There are plenty of seating there since they share a space with Kung Fu Tea and Fried Chicken, The counter service is very helpful and friendly. I got the shrimp & zucchini soup dumplings which were so good, juicy, and flavorful. I also got the sweet sticky rice roll which was frankly a let down - basically like a plain Chinese donut (you tiao) and a ton of straight up granulated sugar inside plain sticky rice. Everything is packaged to go so can take home if you don't finish eating there. Don't forget to carefully bite a little bit into the soup dumplings first so the soup inside doesn't squirt out all over you. Good to remember if it's your first time trying soup dumplings. We tried the highly reviewed rainbow soup dumplings, and I have to say I haven't had good soup dumplings since Bangkok, but these come very close. I really enjoyed getting to taste all six flavors.
