On 2/25/26, our group of 10 arrived on time for our 7:15 reservation to celebrate a birthday. As soon as we walked in, we were told--quite rudely--that the kitchen closes at 8:00 and that we needed to order immediately. None of us had been there before, so we were unfamiliar with the menu and felt rushed to decide while the server stood over us. We ordered quickly. Our appetizers included lettuce wraps: two chicken and one vegetarian. When the appetizers arrived, all three orders were chicken. We immediately informed the server of the mistake, but he simply shrugged and said we would need to order another vegetarian one. There was no apology and no adjustment to the bill. The rest of the food came out quickly, with generous portions and was mostly tasty. The server did do a nice job presenting the birthday cake we brought, which we appreciated. It's also worth noting that we were the only people in the restaurant that evening. I'm not someone who typically writes reviews like this, so I called a few days later to share our experience directly. The person I spoke with said we should not have been told that the kitchen closed at 8:00 and that she would pass the information along to the manager. Some seriously good food and the lunch special is a bargain at $9.25, especially since it's a lot of food and comes with one side dish. So my friend and I met for our monthly lunch and I had a little trouble finding the right entrance to the parking lot as it goes through a Royal Farms lot. But once I got there, there was plenty of free parking. She was already seated, but as soon as I joined her our server appeared to take drink orders. I was mildly surprised that her Diet Coke came in a can with a glass of ice. I guess they are really geared toward takeout, although the dining room is spacious and nicely decorated. We decided to try the sweet and sour spicy cabbage starter, and it was so good! Crunchy and fresh, with a few red peppers tossed in (I did NOT take even a nibble!) which gave it a nice kick. We each kept back a bit to take home. I opted for the Hunan Pork with an egg roll as my side; she chose the chicken in hot garlic sauce with soup. She knows my spicy tolerance and said the chicken dish was probably a bit much for me, so I didn't even sample hers. The pork was excellent, with tender crisp broccoli florets and tender pork in a mildly spicy mushroom sauce. So yummy and a lot, so I have another meal tomorrow. :) Of course, both our plates came with sticky rice and I don't eat much of that, but she took some home for later. The server was pleasant and on top of things without being pushy; we actually sat for an hour after eating, just talking, and there was no pressure to leave. Of course, for a while we were the only table; it might be very different during the lunch rush. There was a moment of confusion when our bills came. I had asked for separate checks and they were provided, but the server seemed mildly disturbed when I wanted to use my debit card to pay. He asked, "Do you have cash?" I almost never do. My friend does. So I said I could pay both with my card and she would give me her cash but in the end, the server just took my card and her cash anyway. I left a larger than usual tip because it was good service and also to maybe make it worth their while to pay for the card usage. They have received several recognitions including being among one of the best restaurants in Baltimore in past years. Upon arrival, my first observation was a musty odor permeating in the restaurant. Typically we do carryout if it's just us dining. It's been a while since we dined in so it looks like they have updated their decor. Unfortunately they do not have a lazy susan so we each ordered individual apps and entrees. Our table was not large enough and felt tight. My husband ordered the subgum wonton soup and kung pao chicken. I ordered the shrimp toast and the peking duck, which I shared with our friend as they do not have an option to order only half. I loved the shrimp toast and peking duck. The toast was crispy and shrimp cooked perfectly. The duck skin was crispy, had the perfect amount of fat, and the hoisin sauce wasn't too sweet or salty. Our friend and I agreed that they were generous with the pancakes. At other restaurants, you have to order extra. They only sell Coke and Sprite. Our friend's daughter wanted Dr. Pibb. Also, their juices are limited so our friend had to order lemonade for one of the kids. Few suggestions for restaurant: -offer more variety of sodas and juices -update Fivestars app if buy one get 1/2 off dinner is not available on Christmas. This is one of my go to places, and I've noticed since I was a kid, that the prices actually have not really gone up over time, in fact, we stopped in for lunch and they have really fantastic lunch specials here! I go with the general so chicken, and it comes with an egg roll and absolutely exquisite dipping sauce. The general so has the perfect crunch, and the sauced have really permeated each piece to perfection. The furniture and the songs have probably stayed the same since I was a kid, which gives it that slightly fancy, but traditional asian feel that you'll find at the best asian sit down places. But, the server (same one since I was little) really doesn't like me, and my dad says doesn't like him either (incredibly rude and wants to walk away half way through we're ordering, and then likes to berate us in mandarin (which as an asian food lover, I do understand some of what he says) but... he's an 80-100 year old man who just adds more flavor to the place (fun part of the experience right?). I'd say this can also be a perfect date spot if you're going through or near the Snowden river parkway, or an after stopping by all the asian grocery stores in the area place. read more

I didn't try the general tso chicken but I tried everything else I listed. The crispy eggplant tasted sweet to me. I think it would have been better if I ate this right away. The food was good and not greasy or salty. It's definitely better Chinese food I've tasted in the surrounding Baltimore and Maryland area. Please beware if you use the texted rewards with Asean Bistro. I chose to take out lunch for my boys and me from Asean Bistro today because I was sent a "free app w/ purch of $25+ ($7 or less) on your next visit" text a couple of days ago. I had saved the reward and confirmed the reward was saved. (I previously used one of these texted rewards with no problem.) So today, I ordered three lunch specials and a "free" appetizer, making sure it was priced less than $7. However, when I went to pick up my lunch order, I was told by the woman at the counter that the offer was not good because I placed my order online and that the online system is "a completely different" system from the one they use in the restaurant. What??! I expressed then that I did not want the "free" appetizer since it was not "free," and the woman rudely told me, "No. You have to pay for it." Despite my explaining again that I ordered the appetizer because it was supposed to be free, she told me again that I should have called the restaurant, not ordered online, to use the free appetizer reward. I said that there was nothing on the "coupon" that said anything about calling the restaurant. She then yelled at me, "We never give coupons!!" Okay, I misspoke -- I corrected myself and said there was nothing on the "reward" that said I had to call in the order and that she was blaming the customer for trying to support the business. She insisted that I had to pay for the full order including the now-not-free appetizer. I agreed to pay for it since it had already been prepared, but I added that while I had been a regular customer I would not be back, to which she yelled, "Fine!" Loss of a loyal customer who has encouraged others to try their lunch specials all over a $6.95 appetizer. Menu had nice variety of selections not your usual fare. The food was hot and portions good. Unfortunately food was unimpressive. The Hot & Sour soup was thick and bland with very little other ingredients. The Spring Roll was hot and well cooked but filling lacked much flavor. The combo LoMein had absolutely no flavor. I had the Honey Sesame chicken. Large pieces of chicken well cooked but sauce was also lacking any destinctive flavor. We had leftovers and I will see if it is better today. Tasty Asian food. Asean bistro is a quiet restaurant with carpeted floors and dark wood chairs. They did not have a number of cocktails and wines available (even though they claimed to offer them on the menu), so keep that in mind. We split the crab rangoon and I ordered the chef Liu's chicken for myself. The crab rangoon was exceptionally crispy, served hot, and well-flavored. My main dish was solid with a slightly spicy sauce and a heavy proportion of chicken to other ingredients. My only complaints were that the chicken was a bit dry and hard to eat at times (even with a generous coating of sauce) and that the rice was undercooked. I came for lunch with 7 coworkers to try their lunch specials. The lunch specials are all pretty cheap below 7$-8$ and come with a soup or egg roll and their hot bar buffet. As a result, no one left hungry. The hot bar buffet was the highlight of the meal, the crispy eggplant was crispy sweet spicy and flavorful. The carrots and other buffet vegetables were pretty good. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't live up the buffet bar. The hot and sour soup was super thick and didn't taste like traditional hot and sour soup. My hunan combination lunch had a variety that included chicken, beef, shrimp, broccoli, water chestnut, onions and rice. The beef was really tough, and the chicken and the rice both tasted overcooked. The shrimp and the vegetables were pretty good however. After taking a vote at the table, we all concluded that the place deserves 3 stars. read more

Extremely disappointing experience at what used to be the "go to" chinese restaurant. The service, quality of food, and overall cleanliness were all shockingly terrible. We ordered steamed whole fish in black bean sauce. The fish hadn't been scaled, instead of being firm was mushy. It was cold, and served on a watery dark sauce which wasn't even close to being considered black bean sauce. The accompanied white rice was certainly old and had a metallic taste to it. I think the dining room food is much better than the take out. I recently ordered Beef and Broccoli. The sauce was not at all tasty. As a matter of fact, it tasted too much like corn starch.
