Came here for some Chinese food takeout for lunch. The restaurant is located in Route 40 West, the same shopping area as the H Mart. There is plenty of parking available in the area outside the store. The ambiance was cool, with folks coming in and out and there is also seating to enjoy your food onsite. If you've been ordering Chinese food as long as I have, you know the best time to purchase is during their "lunchtime" special for a great price on a smaller portion of your favorite item. It's usually accompanied by a basic fried rice, white rice, or noodles. I ordered the shrimp egg foo yung lunch special with fried rice; pork yak; and shrimp egg rolls. I like China Chef because they have an open kitchen just behind the counter and can see them preparing orders. We placed our order with a pleasant lady at the counter, paid in advance, and did some shopping at the local grocery store and came back to pick it up. We came back to pick up our order and it was waiting for us. We opened the bag to check that it was correct, grabbed assorted condiments (soy ,duck, and hot sauce packets) and cutlery and were on our way. The pork yat was good, not overly oily and drenched in soy sauce. There were fried yellow onions and a boiled egg included. The shrimp egg foo yung lunch special consisted of two patties made with egg, shrimp, and onions with fried rice and a small container of gravy. It was just ok, lacking a fair amount of shrimp. The gravy was light-skinned, lol, but ok as well. The egg rolls were a nice, hefty size deep fried and not greasy at all. It was a decent egg roll with shrimp scattered about, but not as good as I wanted it to be. All in all, a nice place to grab some traditional Chinese takeout. read more

The food is very good and fresh. I typically do takeout and they have it ready in about 15 minutes. I've been going here for many years and you can have as much duck sauce, soy sauce, spicy sauce or whatever you need. They will accommodate your order if you have different preferences. **BRING A SECOND BANK ACCOUNT** GOOD: Tasty for takeout Chinese; friendly employees BAD - The PRICES and hospitality for those seeking to sit. I typically don't push back on glowing reviews. Mine tend to be within 1/2 of the average - not here. I was looking for a convienient dinner while shopping in the Rolling Road shops and China Chef seemed to fit the bill - Chinese, tables, good reviews. I wanted to try a few things and expected prices to align with my local places. I ordered crab ragoon (standard app in most places), fried dumplings and an order of pork ho-fun ( mostly thick noodles with some pork) - 36.00. No thanks, I cancelled the two items and was left with the Ho-fun. Two others also reduced their orders - nearly all orders after and before me were in the mid 20s. One was 62.00. The Ho-fun was very good, but it's still Chinese take-out. The pandemic and inflation are not acceptable anymore to gauge customers. Chinese take-out competition is fierce and CC's prices aren't competitive. I also had to eat out of the take out bag - even plastic trays would have been a better touch. To sum up, their food is good but extremely expensive. I recommend straight take out if you go. For my hard earned dollars I am sticking with my local Chinese. I came here for carry out, and got a chicken with broccoli and an order of fried dumplings. The chicken broccoli was pretty standard, a tad too much oil in my opinion. The fried dumplings however were delicious!! They were filled with pork and veggies and you can tell that they were house made bc of the perfect texture of the skin, and great flavors. This is a hole in the wall Chinese carryout place, the type that is everywhere. The big difference is that this is the best one I've ever been to. The food was magnificent...much tastier than similar places. And if you choose to eat in the bring it to you on a tray with plastic utensils and all, which is fancier than similar places. I had the Tso's chicken and it hit the spot. Not too spicy and a little sweet with crispy crunch on the outside and tender meat on the inside. Menu: standard American Chinese food fare but executed by someone who truly cares about food and cooking. Everything tasted fantastic, the spices were fresh and high quality. We ordered the Gen Tso, spicy (it was not spicy, but very tasty), house fried rice (good soy flavor and lots of proteins mixed in), pork egg rolls (do not miss these, fried crispy golden and with a tender wrapper, not tough and chewy), pork dumplings (again a tender thin wrapper, with plenty of savory filling), and sesame chicken. I've tried a lot of different Chinese places and some are just awful (old, re-deep fried tasting....just bleh). I have tried wonton soup, fried rice and general tso's shrimp from here. I was very disappointed by this people. I stopped by with my husband and my sister from our trip to get something to eat, but unfortunately was treated so poorly. They only had one Asian family dinning in there when we got there. We were seated and given tea about 10mins later. Then no one attended to us, until we reached out to an old man who works there. And when we try to order he was standing about a feet away from us and asking what we want as if he didn't want to get close to us. He wasn't serviceable and not friendly. Obviously they didn't want our presence there so we canceled the order we put in and left, because we didn't trust them at that point. read more

Came here last week for lunch with a coworker. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we first arrived, and the woman behind the counter was very nice & friendly. Good came out pretty quick and was piping hot. I appreciated how they gave it to a in to-go containers, because I couldn't finish mine and did end up bringing it home. Egg rolls were huge & I liked that all the condiments were out on the counter for us to take. Restaurant isn't fancy looking by any means, but the food was good! Tried them for the first time today and am sold. Best Chinese food my wife and I have tasted in ages, and we lived in NYC for 4 years. Singapore mei fun - very good. Happy family - excellent. Combination fried rice - excellent. Shrimp egg rolls - best I've ever tasted, anywhere. Steamed dumplings - very good, but the wrapping was a bit thick and the sauce was a bit scanty. This is the place we go to for Chinese on a regular basis. It's not that great, but it's also not bad. It's a normal middle-of the road Chinese food joint. It's very consistent, which is important if you're hungry and you don't want to take any chances. Recently they've added cheese steak egg rolls which I'm sure are very bad for you... but like everything else that's bad for you... they are SOOOO good. I always wind up ordering more of them than I need to. There's eat-in space, but most people take out. It gets busy in the evenings sometimes. I typically ask for "white meat General Tso's chicken" as the "white meat" version isn't on the menu. I heard some lady ask for it and that's how I've asked for it since then. Honestly don't know why this place doesn't have 5 stars. Their food is absolutely delicious. After trying multiple other Chinese places around town, I always end up coming back to China Chef. They are open late, have the food ready fast, and customer service is always wonderful. And my favorite part aside from the delicious food? The free tea while you are waiting :). Yum!!!
