This is probably one of our favorite Chinese food spots in Catonsville! All the food we have tried we really enjoy and the staff is very friendly. The portion sizes aren't small and I truly feel like you get your monies worth. We usually order take out and pick it up so I haven't really paid much attention to the inside or decor because we walk in pay and grab our food. They do have a good size parking lot making it easy to pop in and out. It pretty centrally located on edmondson and I'm glad we were recommended here. So if you're looking for some good Chinese food I'd give them a try because there's like 3 other Chinese restaurants I pass just to go to this one! Everything is made fresh and is always hot. This is my go to! Phenomenal food that is always consistently delicious. The portions are generous and the prices aren't too bad. The service is always phenomenal but there is sometimes a wait due to how popular they are especially during the weekends. This is the first Chinese spot I've found in Baltimore county that makes the egg foo young like they do in the city. The Yat Gaw Mein isn't that Baltimore dirty Yat! but it's serviceable. My wife and I ordered from here twice in one week and we were not disappointed. This will be our go to for Chinese food in the county. The egg foo young gravy is really so fire. And they give you 3 egg pancakes so you will definitely be full afterward. I just wish the Yat Gaw Mein had a thicker sauce and the flavor profile comes up more. It's not nasty just not dirty Yat. The service is great, the young man I've encountered each time behind the counter is calm and friendly, he even brought my food out to my car as I waited. Really good Chinese food! Take out only. Reasonable prices and fast. Two sizes large and small. I ordered large for everything. There is a small parking lot out in the front so you can park and pick up your food. They have all the traditional food. I liked the moo shoo vegetable, kung pao chicken, lo mein noodle with chicken (has bean sprout and celery), and the hot and sour soup I did not like general Tso tofu. I imagine it would be the same orange glaze for general tso's chicken. This is a personal preference as I don't like anything sweet. The glaze reminds me of the common Americanized orange chicken dish. So if that's what you're looking for the general tso's sauce is for you. I liked 4 out the 5 dishes that I ordered. I'm so glad I found this place. It's exactly what I'm looking for from a Chinese restaurant. I docked a star bc they didn't have common dishes like eggplant dish or bok choy/ong choy in garlic sauce and thick flat rice noodle stir fry. That being said what they had was pretty delicious. I've been asking for about a year if anyone knew of a good Chinese restaurant, tried about six spots, and each time only to be disappointed. I had orange chicken here and I am positive the chicken was not real. The only reason I am giving this two stars is because the service was very nice and the people were kind. Of all the Chinese carry out places in the area, this is the only one I will go to! This place taste great, has good prices and is clean which is a plus for me! Their food is great and exceeds the typical Chinese carry out expectation. My boyfriend and I usually get the combination platter which includes a soup, entree, rice and a shrimp egg roll. They can prepare their food at lightening speed which is a plus when you are starving and everything comes piping hot. I normally get general Tsos chicken or a similar dish and I love that it actually tastes like meat. You can actually see the chicken breast instead of the tons of breading you will get elsewhere. Although their prices are probably than competitors you get what you pay for. Quality food and lots of it. Their portions are pretty generous they can last me 1-3 meals. I love this place not only for the good food, but for also the welcoming feel the owner bestows on all her customers. Lots of repeat patrons coming in for carry out. Apparently I went on the first day they reopened which would explain the many of the happy faces coming in and out. Food was great. We ordered many dishes to try - Crispy beef is off the charts. One of our favorite places for takeout food close to home. It is a standard Americanized Chinese menu. Orange Beef, General Tso, eggrolls ... you get the picture. They do have a couple of tables buts it's really a takeout place. Most people use the tables to sit down while waiting for their takeout. Everything we have tried has been great. The one exception is that the orange beef wasn't great - too much breading on the beef - flavor was good though. Otherwise every dish has been great. The portions are always huge. You can serve two with one dinner size portion and have leftovers of the entree. You will need to make some extra rice to go with the leftovers more than likely. I got the General Tso chicken lunch portion today and I had plenty of food for lunch and dinner. My partner likes the Mongolian beef. The lady that works at the counter is always so nice. The prices are very fair. I highly recommend Hunan Joy. We have ordered here more than a dozen times and have only lived in the area for about 2 years. It's not the fanciest food and it is not dining, but it is great for takeout. The food is always delicious and you will have lots of leftovers. We like the food from here, but their online ordering and delivery service are atrocious. I placed a delivery order for our kids before my wife and I left for another event. An hour and a half later, my son texted to ask when the food would arrive. I called and was told that they were busy, but that my order was "on the way". It's a 10 minute drive, but the food didn't arrive until about 25 minutes later. If I'd known that delivery was going to take nearly 2 hours, I would've ordered from somewhere else. The mealage.net service that they use for online ordering never provides an estimated pickup or delivery time, and the email never contains an itemized order. This is a decent Chinese place. The inside has been redone; it's very fluorescent and sterile and only has two tables - not very inviting to stay. That being said, the takeout is on point. When I went to pick up food, the guy behind the counter was getting swamped with phone calls for orders. Food is alright. The sushi isn't bad; I've had better but I've definitely had worse. The Pad Thai was filling, but a little disappointing. A bit dry. The beef teriyaki sticks were great and the winner was the Orange Chicken. Lots of sauce (which I like), very little breading, and huge chunks of white meat chicken. I would definitely get this and other chicken dishes like it again. The prices are decent. Best Chinese food in Catonsville I grew up and spent my entire life in Catonsville and I always knew this place as the one across CVS on Edmondson. I think they remodeled a few years ago so I can't speak for back then but for the past 2/3 years, they have consistently been the best Chinese food I've had no matter where I go. My first experience eating at this restaurant was horrible. I ordered a small Szechuan shrimp, for $8.00. The quantity and the food was awful. It was very salty, so I returned it. The owner was not nice, I offered to get something else; but she said no they were too busy. She returned my money and handed me back the food and told me to take it outside. I asked her " take it where"? She said anywhere take it out of the restaurant (all along shoving the bag back to me. The were no trash receptacles outside ... only a dumpster around the side. Excellent! I've lived in Catonsville for 20+ years, but had never tried this place. Food was excellent. Ordered General Tso's Chicken and Mongolian Beef, and I recommend both. The General Tso's is all white meat, lightly battered, in a very flavorful sauce that is more sweet than spicy. The Mongolian Beef likewise was very flavorful... a bit salty but not too much, with onions, scallions, and cabbage. Portions are large - couldn't finish in one meal. The food was super-hot temperature wise, which is great since this is take-out. Service is fast and friendly and there is easy parking. Highly recommend for take out. read more
