This is a great local restaurant for fusion Japanese food. Conveniently located in the old town Ellicott city district, next to the Mochi donuts shop. Owned by Korean, so you can get the best of both Korean and Japanese food here. We have been coming here for the past several years, never had bad experience. Foods are delicious and come in decent portions. Sushi and sashimi are very fresh. Price is reasonable. Good value for this area. Service was attentive and efficient. Clean shop, comfortable atmosphere. Easy parking out front. Do recommend by IG @WineDinenVacay

solid, all cuts of fish are very fresh! their special rolls in particular are good. we ordered the fire cracker roll and it was very good, they definitely use clean oil and it wasn't greasy at all.

Miso soup and sesame side salad - both were yummy! Loved the sesame dressing. (6.2.23)

6.2.23 I was in the mood for Asian cuisine tonight for dinner and don't eat Japanese very often so decided to come here to try their bento box. I went for the Chicken Teriyaki which came with rice, California rolls, gyoza, and shrimp/veggie tempura. The apps included miso soup and a sesame house salad. Loved the sesame dressing. It is the best dressing I have had at any Japanese restaurant. Onto my bento box. Of the veggie tempura my favorite was the sweet potato. The shrimp tempura was delish too. Loved the crunchiness. The tempura sauce and soy sauce for the gyoza were delish too. On the sweeter side which I like. The teriyaki sauce for the chicken was so yummy I dipped my jasmine rice in it. I believe a good sauce or marinade is key to making everything taste better. The chicken was broiled and generally I prefer it to be roasted or grilled. It was on the softer side and I prefer the texture to be crisp. I normally don't like California rolls, but thought I would be adventurous and try it again. Big mistake, I choked on the wasabi. I don't do spicy. My eyes started watering and I had to gulp water. So much for trying to be adventurous. The restaurant is small. There are counter seats where they make sushi and tables on each end of the restaurant. They are located in Frederick Crossing. They have a lunch menu on weekdays from 11:30-3pm. I will need to take advantage of that next time. For my next visit, I'ld like to try the Chicken Katsu or Katsu Donburi.

Friendly and attentive staff, and the food was delicious! We ordered seafood pancake, which is Korean, and Platter A. The pancake was crunchy outside and seasoned perfectly inside. My friend who has probably eaten at every restaurant in the area said this place has the best seafood pancakes. Platter A came with California rolls, spicy rolls, salmon and red tuna sushi, white tuna sushi, those sushi with eggs on top, another with shrimp and yet another with eel. I probably forgot a couple because I didn't know what fish it was. It was a lot, and super delicious! I also took home fish stew, and my husband and I gobbled it up to the last drop. Not fishy and oily like other places. Very refreshing soup, and the fish tasted fresh, not from frozen. Definitely a place to return again and again. It was close to Rita's, too. Just across the street for dessert for sure. Pleasant atmosphere and a clean establishment.

Niko Restaurant is a Korean owned sushi restaurant tucked away in Ellicott City. They have a wide selection of tasty and high quality sushi as well as other dishes. We ordered three rolls a la carte and enjoyed all three. S2 Spider Roll (6pcs), S20 Orange and White Roll (8pcs), and S24 Fire Cracker Roll (8pcs). We ordered for pickup and it was ready within 15min.

Typical Japanese & Sushi spot in Ellicott City - I only tried the sushi so I'm not sure how the rest of the menu was but they did have a decent variety so I was happy about that! The prices were on the average side / nothing too interesting about this place that would make me want to try it outside of necessity. However I do appreciate the multiple options for vegetarians.

Service was great, food was reasonably priced, and the sushi was good quality. The house salad was great as well. As you can see in the pictures, we loved it!

The seafood rice is literally my favorite thing to get. It's a light refreshing meal that hits perfectly in the summer and the warmer days. The fish is fresher than the other spots I tried, a little heavy on the lettuce but it's probably because they want to be stingy on giving more seafood. Please keep in mind it's raw fish. The miso soup was also pleasant. The service was fast and the servers were attentive. I didn't try the undo my partner was the one who order it. In regards to "ambiance" it's chill and quite. A nice place where you can come to sit and enjoy yourself or other company. Something sitting alone with your thoughts while eating fresh food is all you need to finish your day off.

I have not been here for many years and I was glad to return. We all had different bento boxes and they come with a-lot of food. Service is polite and quick. We had appetizers and an extra dish of yaki soba noodles. The dinner was really five stars all around. I'll need to add this place back into the rotation.

I came to Niko Restuarant with my family, and we were greeted and felt very welcomed by Howard, the sushi chef/owner. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very peaceful with some decorations, and there is music softly playing in the background. We were seated promptly, and the menu is very straight forward with two sides. There is a separate a la carte menu that you need to ask for that lists all the various special rolls and nigiri pieces. The prices are very reasonable for the sushi, and they also serve hot food for those who don't eat sushi. The sushi taste very fresh, and I would highly recommend the Chirashi Sushi because it contains a good amount of variety with enough fish to serve one person. I will definitely be returning to Niko Restaurant whether it's dining in or taking out.

Was there entertaining some of my clients last night. Ordered the biggest dinner combo (some trmpura & sushi/sashimi/rolls) seafood pancake (haemool pajeon), fish roe soup, tempura udon, uni (sea urchin) sushi and gyoza. Tempura - very good Sashimi - not really good Uni sushi - very good Rolls - good Sushi - ok Udon - broth taste so blend, not good Fish roe soup - broth was cooked with lots of umami flavor but the roes were bit over cooked so they were tougher than way i like Seafood pancake - very good (so crispy) Oh salad dressing was awesome! Went there cuz someone told me it was korean owned. But not typical korean japanese restaurant, more of americanized japanese restaurant. Not much side dishes like typical korean place. If you go there thinking you would be serviced like at a Korean town japanese restaurant, you will be disappointed. Still better than most Japanese restaurant in e-city, columbia, elkridge area.

FRESH FRESH FRESH! Now I have had my share if sushi and have some really band and some really good and I mean just good. But this very unassuming strip mall intimate restaurant was GREAT! VERY clean restaurant and a tentative friendly staff. The sushi was extra fresh and really really good. The avocado was just right the roe was great and the crab was fresh. The entire presentation was nice. The misplaced soup was a great added touch. I enjoyed my food and highly recommended Niko if you want fresh sushi and friendly service.

Average for a Japanese restaurant. We picked this as it was a place we have not tried before and it was in the area we were in. The tuna was not the freshest we've seen or tasted but the sashimi platter did have a good selection. It would be nice if the waiter told us what type of fish was on the platter when he brought it to our table, but we survived. I'd seek out other options before returning to this Japanese restaurant.

Sushi rolls were all great and fresh. Yellow tail hibachi I was just a little different on the flavor , but it was very fresh and presented in a beautiful way. I also got Wago beef rice. Rice was great, very flavorful. but I was not a fan of the beef - It was couple huge pieces. Rea tender. Not your typical way of beef in fried rice. Yet fresh and good. I would come and try other dishes.

Takumi Japanese Bistro and Bar…read more My first visit to this welcome addition to our local mall. The restaurant blends modern and traditional Japanese design and occupies the former space where a coffee shop once stood. There is ample free parking outside, though Friday evenings in this part of Columbia are notoriously busy. Food -- Thoughtfully presented, visually appealing, and made with fresh ingredients. Seafood Miso Soup -- A large bowl filled with whole fresh clams, scallops, shrimp, and green onion. A very generous portion--so much so that she brought some home to enjoy later. Salmon Skin Salad -- Pieces of salmon skin ranging from crispy to slightly chewy, mixed with cucumber, fish roe, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. A delicious combination. Signature Maki - "Maryland" Roll -- Beautifully presented with blue crab, shishito peppers (mild and slightly sweet), Old Bay-torched salmon, spicy mayo, and rice pearls. Both friends quickly devoured theirs. Prices felt somewhat higher than typical mall fare, but the freshness of the ingredients and attention to detail made it worthwhile. The entire staff we encountered were engaging and genuinely seemed happy to be there for their guests. A big nod to management for making hospitality an important part of the dining experience. One minor suggestion: the attractive menus could use periodic checks, as a few pages appeared a bit worn. I would happily recommend a visit--perhaps on a less hectic day so you can enjoy the décor and food at a more relaxed pace. There is also an outdoor patio that will be especially appealing once the warmer weather returns.

I am a lover of tuna and regardless of the roll I order, specialty or regular tuna, they are all delicious. My family and I came in for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Upon arrival, I was shocked to see how packed it was, but that was telling of how good their food is. There were a lot of birthdays being celebrated that evening, and it was a Wednesday. They had a private room available, but there is a food minimum and you have to take your shoes off (floor table set up). Though we were offered the option, we decided to just sit in the main area since we were coming with a few older family members and didn't want them to struggle to put shoes back on later and they prefer sitting in chairs. They have sushi, teriyaki, platters and combination dishes. We all had something different, ordering from the combination options, teriyaki and some sushi on the side. Since we all ordered a special, it came with miso soup and salad. The food was brought out in a staggered manner - three out of the five of us got our food before the others, and they almost finished half of their dish before ours even came out. I had the beef teriyaki and I was shocked to see that it was a large piece of beef, and we were given knives to cut it up. I am used to the meats being already cut up, so this was different. The food was still good though! I will say that I wish there were more broccoli, than bean sprouts accompanying the meat - the dish was still delicious though! The chunk of meat was so large that I actually had leftovers to bring home as a second meal. The sushi was impressive. Not only was the selection so large and I wanted to order every single one of the special rolls (but I didn't because my eyes tend to be bigger than my stomach), they use all fresh ingredients. The shumai was unimpressive, but because everything else was good, I didn't really mind it. I feel like my rice bowl was not full, as most restaurants pack the rice into the bowl; whereas I felt like there were air pockets in mine so there was a little less. To my surprise, they had a decent dessert menu: several ice cream options, variety of mochi and a few cake selections. Because they knew we were celebrating a birthday, they surprised us with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with different cookies to share! It came out with a sparkler, and the employees singing along to a soundtrack played on the speakers. This really made my sister feel so special, and as I said before, it seemed like most of the larger parties there were also celebrating a birthday that evening. Delicious food, friendly service, easy parking and fun atmosphere!
