My go-to sushi place in columbia! Food: 5/5 I cannot rave more about the freshness of the sushi here. I am a lover of tuna and regardless of the roll I order, specialty or regular tuna, they are all delicious. Even the spicy tuna rolls, which can just taste mushy and like filler at other places, is pleasantly filled with tuna. Highly recommend the samurai roll (bottom roll in my photo). Service: 5/5 always quick and kind service, and the owners visit the tables to make sure everything is going well. This is a hidden gem out here in Columbia. This is tucked away in a smaller strip, so you'll only find it if you search for it. My family and I came in for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Upon arrival, I was shocked to see how packed it was, but that was telling of how good their food is. There were a lot of birthdays being celebrated that evening, and it was a Wednesday. They had a private room available, but there is a food minimum and you have to take your shoes off (floor table set up). Though we were offered the option, we decided to just sit in the main area since we were coming with a few older family members and didn't want them to struggle to put shoes back on later and they prefer sitting in chairs. They have sushi, teriyaki, platters and combination dishes. We all had something different, ordering from the combination options, teriyaki and some sushi on the side. Since we all ordered a special, it came with miso soup and salad. The food was brought out in a staggered manner - three out of the five of us got our food before the others, and they almost finished half of their dish before ours even came out. I had the beef teriyaki and I was shocked to see that it was a large piece of beef, and we were given knives to cut it up. I am used to the meats being already cut up, so this was different. The food was still good though! I will say that I wish there were more broccoli, than bean sprouts accompanying the meat - the dish was still delicious though! The chunk of meat was so large that I actually had leftovers to bring home as a second meal. The sushi was impressive. Not only was the selection so large and I wanted to order every single one of the special rolls (but I didn't because my eyes tend to be bigger than my stomach), they use all fresh ingredients. The shumai was unimpressive, but because everything else was good, I didn't really mind it. I feel like my rice bowl was not full, as most restaurants pack the rice into the bowl; whereas I felt like there were air pockets in mine so there was a little less. To my surprise, they had a decent dessert menu: several ice cream options, variety of mochi and a few cake selections. Because they knew we were celebrating a birthday, they surprised us with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with different cookies to share! It came out with a sparkler, and the employees singing along to a soundtrack played on the speakers. This really made my sister feel so special, and as I said before, it seemed like most of the larger parties there were also celebrating a birthday that evening. First of all, they didn't give me the receipt when we asked for the check, and then the lady told me that I had saved an "extra 40 dollars". I did the math real quick in my head and it was not right. So I stayed and didn't go anywhere till they had printed me a real receipt. So I was right!! They tried to charge me extra. And 5 days later, I was auditing my credit card statement. They have charged me another UNAUTHORIZED fee, which is an extra 5 dollars on tips. This is an horrible and unethical way to do business. And hence, I have black-listed this restaurant forever. So for my first review of March 2025! I will have to come back again when I'm in the area to give them the full monty...but for starters and a 4 stars they are doing really well in my book. Now I am a sushi connoisseur (I tell myself anyways) and love to try sushi in many different types of atmospheres. I've been to many places and how I test if I would come back is I like to order a reasonable easy common roll. So if they get that roll wrong I know it's not up to snuff... So to start the restaurants is in a typical strip mall building that you would miss if you wasn't paying attention. Now I was coming here hungry then a mug so I'm so glad I gave them a chance. Don't judge a book for its cover right? When I walked in I was greeted quickly and decided since I was dining by myself I would sit at the bar so I can take in the entire restaurant. He gave me a menu and asked for my drink order. I just got water with lemon to start while I browsed over the menu. My server at first kind of rubbed me the wrong way because after I made my order she took the menu so quickly from me I didn't have time to even take a picture of it. I ordered my usual sushi rolls when I'm eating the first time at a sushi place...salmon and scallion add cream cheese, yellowtail and scallion add cream cheese, and decided to upgrade to tuna belly. My sushi came out quickly and was so good! I also ordered a Mai tai and a Riesling and I tell you both drinks were on point! If I'm in Columbia again I will definitely come back! I loved my dinner at Sushi King! We were greeted within 5 minutes of sitting down. We ordered some classics (shrimp tempura, cucumber, and spider roll) and special (Samaria roll). They were all good and tasted TOP QUALITY/FRESH! I love the ambiance, it's definitely a Mom and Pop shop and felt so warm/welcoming. The waitresses came around multiple times to ask us if we were okay. They seem to have a lot of regulars - so that's a very good sign. We also indulged in the fried banana with sesame ice cream. It's the perfect ending to the meal. Also - I freaking love these napkins. Yall had to get a glimpse of the set up. I LOVE Sushi King! The owners are always there and treats all of us like family. I don't know if the mom of the owner works there but sometimes she'll come sit with us and we'll just talk and catch up haha. We always get such a warm and great greeting upon arrival. They seem so genuinely happy to see us. The ambiance of the facility is amazing chill and relaxed and they have a special Japanese room you can eat in but you have to order at least $150 worth of food. It's especially nice for a special occasion. I always order the Baltimore, Holiday, Snow White, and dynamite roll with UME wine. I highly recommend this sushi spot! I trust Yelp but remain skeptical when I read a lot of glowing reviews. The ambiance is amazing! Eating at SK is an experience. The hostess is wonderful. She keeps everyone posted about who's next to be seated and even EXPLAINS WHY even if she doesn't have to. (I complimented her on her communication.) There must have been 3-4 birthday parties. The wait was longer than expected but thats the only negative and the food was worth the wait. The hostess was very kind and attentive as I waited on my carryout order. She offered me water and checked in on me in between seating guests. Now to the food part-It was fantastic. Went climbing at Movement Columbia and came here for dinner with friends afterwards at the recommendation of a friend who has been coming for years. Very nice staff and a cute little restaurant. The menu is huge and the number of rolls they have is kind of overwhelming - you also need to read a couple of sheets of paper at the same time to order and understand what each roll is. I was too lazy to figure out what to order from the huge list of rolls and just got the deluxe sushi moriawase, which is 9 pieces of chef's choice nigiri and a tuna roll, with house salad (zangy dressing), and miso soup. The sushi rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tekka (tuna) and salmon (in the Alaskan roll) was also fresh. I'm not sure if I'm happy or disappointed that Sushi King is pretty far from my house. This place is great! We dined in though they appear to do a TON of carryout. Our group of three did primarily rolls. Their eclectic collection of rolls is worth the trip for sure and the execution of those rolls is top notch. My son had the sushi deluxe which looked similar to most restaurants' versions of that dish. He said it was good. I had the Deep Sea Fantasy Roll and the Dancing Dragon Roll and they were both amazing. The table also ordered the Spicy King Crab Roll which was also totally excellent. The Holiday Roll was so good that we ended up ordering a second one! In honor of my birthday I insisted on a quiet dinner for just my husband and I. I will NEVER eat at another sushi restaurant as long as I live! It has its stellar reputation for a reason! One of the best Sushi places in Columbia and for a reasonable price. It's located in a little shopping center by a office park. It's easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for. My daughter wanted some sushi on a Thursday night so we decided to stop in. It wasn't super crowded so after being greeted by a friendly hostess we were seated and a waitress took our drink order. I opted for an Sapporo that came in a chilled glass and my daughter had a sprite. I ordered the new spicy tuna roll and a Baltimore roll. My daughter got a California Roll and a side of plain steamed rice. Over all a good time and it was only 20 dollars per person so a reasonable price. I have had this theory that sushi quality reaches a plateau -- once you skip over the gas stations and the grocery stores (blergh), it starts becoming really hard to find anything that's really any different. Sushi King manages to have incredibly great food, incredible variety, and reasonable prices, making it among my new favourite restaurants. The restaurant is just beautiful inside, with lots of great little decorative features -- including those little Japanese tables that were a feature of sushi restaurants when sushi restaurants were new, and vanished as they became Americanized. The rolls are creative without being pretentious or just weird, and there is a great variety of fish beyond the typical. Excellent sushi spot! My fiance and I came for dinner on a Saturday night. We did not have a reservation, but we were seated right away. As soon as we were seated, the server offered us hot tea which was delicious. The menu is pretty sizable, including a separate menu for specialty rolls. If you order sushi rolls, sashimi, or nigri a la carte, there is a paper slip you fill out with the quantity of the sushi you want. For my entree, I ordered the sushi moriawase which came with 8 pieces of nigri and a tuna roll, and all sushi entrees come with miso and salad. The sushi was fresh and well prepared, the miso was nicely balanced, and I love the salad dressing that comes with house salads at Japanese restaurants. In addition to our sushi entrees, we ordered two specialty roles to share, the sashimi roll and the treasure roll. These came out after the sushi entrees so I was already full when they arrived. It may have been better if they came earlier, or honestly I should have ordered just 1 to share. I could only have a piece of each at the time (the rest made for an awesome snack the next day) but they were really tasty, although the treasure roll had a little too much mayonnaise in the sauce for my personal taste. The wait staff are super friendly, as are the sushi chefs. We're always greeted when we arrive and when we leave. We love sitting at the sushi bar because we enjoy watching the sushi being prepared. They have a great selection of fish and shellfish, and the rolls are outstanding. Everything always is so fresh. Standouts are the sea urchin, tuna belly, giant clam and scallop. We were excited to try a new sushi place near us and were excited to see such positive reviews. Immediately upon walking in, we were hit with an intense smell of fish mixed with cleaner. This should have been our hit to just walk back out. We each got a cup of miso soup and shared edamame. There was just a layer of salt on each spoonful of the soup, it was nearly inedible. Some of that salt could have been used on the edamame, they were so plain. We got the california roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna, and the holiday roll. The sight of the tuna roll really just grossed me out, but I decided to try it anyway and it was really mushy and not enjoyable. The California roll was overwhelmed by rice and had zero flavor. The white fish on the rainbow roll looked questionable. I didn't get a photo of it. The holiday roll was okay, but I think the amount of sauce on top helped. This is my go-to Sushi restaurant when I'm home. If I know I want some reliable sushi at a decent price, I will always come here. Sushi King is my comfort restaurant. The staff here are all very nice, always make you feel at home and you're dining with family. I'm almost 100% sure they remember my name and really any regulars but I am 110% sure they remember the faces of regulars. Now the interior is small but very cozy to me, they've been making small renovations recently to have cleaner spaces which I highly respect since this restaurant has been in this area for quite a while now. Everything is very clean and gives you that warm home-y feeling but still maintaining the optimal temperature to enjoy sushi. The food also arrives pretty quickly, I remember there were times I could walk in, enjoy a full meal of miso soup, sushi and some kind of ice cream for dessert, pay the check and be out within an hour. You could eat that quickly if you wanted to, but there were also times I've brought friends here and sat for much longer. For the price, the sushi here is very good. I always get a sushi or sashimi moriawase because I like the variety of types of fish you get: Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Japanese Flounder and Sea Bream are what usually on the sashimi moriawase with similar sushi varieties. If given the opportunity, I would highly recommend their salmon belly, flounder and sea bream nigiri. My all time favorites at any sushi restaurant and especially here. They also sometimes carry more expensive fish like Toro or Aji. Overall, I have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Sushi King still actively makes an effort to improve the entire experience so there will always be a reason for me to go. read more

I am a snob when it comes to food quality and if my fish taste slightly off putting (fishy/oceany/old) I instantly check out and feel gross. I can't eat grocery store sushi oh God no. Service was prompt and very friendly, we were greeted and seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and quiet with a pleasant theme. We ordered a few maki rolls and the chicken teriyaki lunch special to share. The chicken teriyaki was fine, nothing to write home about. However the portion size of the chicken was generous, and with some extra rice or vegetables, the meal could easily be shared between two people just as we did. The sushi rolls were fresh and flavorful and definitely hit the spot! We were in and out within the hour, and there is ample parking in the lot which is convenient. Most if not all patrons eating had their own separate block offs, everyone wore masks and service was really nice and food came out quickly. We got our food and ate everything!
