    Eel Cucumber Roll*

Sushi King has been around for a few decades. I've been coming here for more than 20 years, and this lovely place hasn't changed a bit. The owner and staff are always friendly and welcoming. Their sushi is the best in Howard County, everything is freshly made with the highest-quality ingredients. I've never had a disappointing meal here. If you're looking for cozy dining that feels like visiting a friend's home for a meal, this is the place.

Sushi King really impressed us with its sushi quality--it's easily one of the better sushi spots in Howard County. While it's on the slightly pricier side, you definitely get what you pay for. The fish was fresh, beautifully presented, and flavorful, and the sushi boat we ordered was both visually stunning and totally worth it in terms of taste and variety. If you're a sushi lover looking for quality without going full fine dining like Takumi (which is nearly double the price), Sushi King hits the sweet spot. The service was top-notch, with friendly, attentive staff who made us feel welcome from the start. It's also surprisingly kid-friendly, which can be hard to find at sushi restaurants. The atmosphere was casual yet polished--perfect for a family dinner or a nice night out. We'll definitely be back for another round of rolls (and maybe another sushi boat)!

So for my first review of March 2025! I will have to come back again when I'm in the area to give them the full monty...but for starters and a 4 stars they are doing really well in my book. Now I am a sushi connoisseur (I tell myself anyways) and love to try sushi in many different types of atmospheres. I've been to many places and how I test if I would come back is I like to order a reasonable easy common roll. So if they get that roll wrong I know it's not up to snuff... So to start the restaurants is in a typical strip mall building that you would miss if you wasn't paying attention. Now I was coming here hungry then a mug so I'm so glad I gave them a chance. Don't judge a book for its cover right? When I walked in I was greeted quickly and decided since I was dining by myself I would sit at the bar so I can take in the entire restaurant. He gave me a menu and asked for my drink order. I just got water with lemon to start while I browsed over the menu. My server at first kind of rubbed me the wrong way because after I made my order she took the menu so quickly from me I didn't have time to even take a picture of it. I ordered my usual sushi rolls when I'm eating the first time at a sushi place...salmon and scallion add cream cheese, yellowtail and scallion add cream cheese, and decided to upgrade to tuna belly. My sushi came out quickly and was so good! I also ordered a Mai tai and a Riesling and I tell you both drinks were on point! If I'm in Columbia again I will definitely come back! Sushi was fresh and drinks on point! Go give them a try!

I loved my dinner at Sushi King! We were greeted within 5 minutes of sitting down. We ordered some classics (shrimp tempura, cucumber, and spider roll) and special (Samaria roll). They were all good and tasted TOP QUALITY/FRESH! I love the ambiance, it's definitely a Mom and Pop shop and felt so warm/welcoming. The waitresses came around multiple times to ask us if we were okay. They seem to have a lot of regulars - so that's a very good sign. We also indulged in the fried banana with sesame ice cream. It's the perfect ending to the meal. Also - I freaking love these napkins. Yall had to get a glimpse of the set up. It doesn't close till 10pm, which is nice considering other local restaurants close earlier. I would definitely revisit again and recommend for you bring someone in try!

I LOVE Sushi King! The owners are always there and treats all of us like family. I don't know if the mom of the owner works there but sometimes she'll come sit with us and we'll just talk and catch up haha. We always get such a warm and great greeting upon arrival. They seem so genuinely happy to see us. The ambiance of the facility is amazing chill and relaxed and they have a special Japanese room you can eat in but you have to order at least $150 worth of food. It's especially nice for a special occasion. I always order the Baltimore, Holiday, Snow White, and dynamite roll with UME wine. I highly recommend this sushi spot! I love sushi king so much!

My kid was so happy on this place, the food was amazing!

Outstanding sushi, service, and ambiance here, in a very nondescript little business park in Columbia.

Solid and reliable Japanese restaurant with reasonable prices. Service was very polite and efficient. We shared a roll combination entree (tekka, Alaskan and California rolls) and a vegetarian sushi plate. Both came with salad, which was very fresh with a ginger miso dressing. The sushi rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tekka (tuna) and salmon (in the Alaskan roll) was also fresh. The vegetarian sushi had the usual kanpyo, cucumber and avocado selections, but also had inari (tofu skin), seaweed and avocado. Appreciated that it has vegetarian sushi with varied flavors and vegetable items (not all Japanese restaurants offer it).

Bring your appetite for an expensive feast…read more Gyu San is an all-you-can-eat Japanese joint with a focus on bbq. Expect to pay a lot but in return, gain access to unlimited top tier meats from the land and sea. Gyu San offers three levels of dining. The entire table must have the same level, so talk to your other diners before ordering what level you'd like to go for: Basic gives you their lowest quality cuts of meat and a handful of seafood options and side dishes. This is great for people who want to get their money's worth, especially when pairing their meal with Gyu San's extensive alcoholic cocktail menu. Their middle level offers a larger variety of beef, pork, and seafood, and side dishes. The middle level also offers ramen. The ramen is good, but extremely filling, so I advise avoiding it. This level also includes a one order-per customer wagyu sampler. This is a MUST include to get your money's worth and it will be the highlight of your meal. One of the sides you can unlock at this level is wagyu burgers. While these burgers are great, with a spicy sauce that is fantastic, they sit in your stomach and make it harder to eat more of the unlimited BBQ. If you must try it, order one and split it among your table. The final and most expensive level opens up an all wagyu menu, taking the one-time sampler from the second level and giving you as much as you can handle. In addition, you'll get one order of five unique appetizers, each carefully crafted around high end seafood and wagyu. Each person at the table can also pay an extra $5 for all you can eat sushi, and their sushi is good. If you're ordering from the low tier meats, then adding sushi is worth it for adding variety and good values. For more money saving, you can become a member by asking your server or host, though its only worth it if you plan on coming to Gyu San more often. Gyu San is a high cost, high caloric, and highly flavorful meal experience, best left as an ultimate treat-your-self with friends and family.

Sushi rolls were all great and fresh. Yellow tail hibachi I was just a little different on the flavor , but it was very fresh and presented in a beautiful way. I also got Wago beef rice. Takumi Japanese Bistro and Bar…read more My first visit to this welcome addition to our local mall. The restaurant blends modern and traditional Japanese design and occupies the former space where a coffee shop once stood. There is ample free parking outside, though Friday evenings in this part of Columbia are notoriously busy. Food -- Thoughtfully presented, visually appealing, and made with fresh ingredients. Seafood Miso Soup -- A large bowl filled with whole fresh clams, scallops, shrimp, and green onion. A very generous portion--so much so that she brought some home to enjoy later. Salmon Skin Salad -- Pieces of salmon skin ranging from crispy to slightly chewy, mixed with cucumber, fish roe, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. A delicious combination. Signature Maki - "Maryland" Roll -- Beautifully presented with blue crab, shishito peppers (mild and slightly sweet), Old Bay-torched salmon, spicy mayo, and rice pearls. Both friends quickly devoured theirs. Prices felt somewhat higher than typical mall fare, but the freshness of the ingredients and attention to detail made it worthwhile. The entire staff we encountered were engaging and genuinely seemed happy to be there for their guests. A big nod to management for making hospitality an important part of the dining experience. One minor suggestion: the attractive menus could use periodic checks, as a few pages appeared a bit worn. I would happily recommend a visit--perhaps on a less hectic day so you can enjoy the décor and food at a more relaxed pace. There is also an outdoor patio that will be especially appealing once the warmer weather returns.

Fast, Affordable, Good and Clean Enough for a Cut…read more You know how hard it is on a cut - you get sick of all the chicken breast, greek yogurt, but eating out is almost impossible. I've been here twice, and I think it's a very fast, affordable, tasty and pretty clean option for those cutting. First time I came, dude in front of me was clearly also either maintaining or cutting, and he gave me the low down. I ordered to his advice, and it's solid. I get the chicken and shrimp teryaki, no rice all vegetables, and decline the extra scoop of teryaki sauce and the cup of mayonnaise sauce they offer. I do put a bit of their hot sauce package on the veg. I went ahead and measured my meal today. This is all short order cooked, so they aren't measuring the portions or anything; there's going to be variations, but in my meal I got 2.6 oz shrimp, 6 oz chicken, and a 12.8 oz veg. The veg is a pretty even mix of cabbage, brocooli, and carrot. They grill the veg really well - it's not crispy raw, but also not wilted to death; almost an al dante. I'm really not a cabbage guy, but I enjoy eating this cabbage. I swagged the whole thing as 660kcal/61g which may be a little conservative, but I'd rather overestimate cals and underestimate protein than the other way around. They DO grill in oil, so it's not going to be as clean as making at home on the gas grill, but still wildly better than 99% other quick options. They are so fast there there's no point to calling ahead - I've been here twice and each time waited about 60 seconds for my food. Everything is packaged to go, but they have plenty of seats to sit down at. Very affordable. I'm stroked to have a clean food option while I'm on the road, and one that's super fast and affordable. I'll be back for sure.

From the moment we walked in, the service staff stuck out with the level of attention and care they presented us with. They were very kind and accommodating throughout our visit. The decor was beautiful with booth and table style seating. The menu itself was organized very straightforward with appetizers and the different types of noodle offerings in an easy-to-read way. Most importantly, the food was great. Everything was really well balanced with a great depth of flavor. The noodles had a good bite/chew to them. My only nitpick was that the chashu was a bit tougher than I typically like, but it wasn't that big of a deal. It was my first time trying an arubasoba style noodle dish and I tried one of their local flavors in the old bay eki. It was very bright/fresh and had great pops of cajun flavor from the Old Bay. Very well done. The chicken karaage seemed like a great deal for $8 and it was also done very well. Very juicy and tender pieces of chicken with a great fry to them. A very good experience through and through and would love to visit again soon.

I reviewed the menu in advance and already had my mind set on the Sukiyaki Don -- a rice bowl with marinated beef, onions, and scallions. When I arrived, I initially planned to place my order at the kiosk for carryout. However, a staff member promptly acknowledged me, so I opted to order directly with her instead. My food was ready in record time--less than five minutes later, I was on my way. At first glance, the container seemed quite small, but once I plated the contents, the portion felt more substantial than expected. The beef was flavorful, tender, and nicely fatty--just how I prefer it. That said, the ratio of meat to rice was a bit unbalanced, with significantly more rice than beef. As a result, I found myself wishing for more sauce to better complement the rice and ended up adding soy sauce. Overall, the service was quick and friendly, and the entree was enjoyable. A slightly more generous portion of beef and/or sauce would have elevated the dish further.
