I ordered a futo making roll, yellowtail and scallion roll, pyramid roll, sake ikuta hand roll, snow mountain roll, Kani boy roll and a sashimi deluxe. All of the rolls was not even rolled tight. The yellowtail scallion roll was falling apart in the container. Every roll that we picked up fell apart. They asked me if I wanted a soup or salad with my sashimi deluxe. I said I'll take a salad. The salad was not even pack with the food. I would not recommend coming back here. read more

BY FAR my favorite go-to sushi spot for lunch. I always place an order online and come in to pick it up with no problems. The fish quality and size of pieces are totally spot on for price point. The packing is also always secure and thoughfully put together even using scrap boxes to separate the colder fish from the hotter miso soup. I really do love this place, and it'll always be my spot for my sushi lunch cravings. Another plus: They give small containers of soy sauce, perfect for dipping instead of other places that give packets that get messy when opening. read more

The agedashi tofu wasn't as crispy as we normally like it; it was actually a bit soft and would fall apart when dipped in the sauce. The Maryland roll was just average for me. We also got the salmon sake & eel nigiris - we liked both. I came during lunch on a weekday and was seated right away. The interior isn't too large so I was happy to get a booth to myself. I ended up ordering seaweed salad and the sashimi deluxe which came with some soup. The plating was pretty impressive, for the price I'd would of liked more variety of fish even if that meant less of each kind. Inflation I guess? As far as the fish, I thought it was good quality with good temperature. That being said, no complaints here. I plan on coming back, however next time I'll be doing a la carte. read more

I've been to this place a couple times and the sushi is decent. Went back the other night and I got the sushi dinner and my family got the yellowtail jalapeno, gyoza, fried tempura, and fried calamari. The yellowtail was ok. The tempura and calamari was ok as well. The tempura just didn't seem as fresh and crisp. My main complaint was with my sushi dinner. I believe it was about $34 and I got about 12 pieces of nigiri and about 6 pieces of a tuna roll. I like that the tuna roll had legit fresh wasabi in it. For the nigiri I had a fish scale in two pieces that just ruined it for me. I didn't realize it until I started eating so it was off-putting. It's not that it wasn't fresh, the nigiri was fine and decent sized cuts of fish but probably won't come back for a while. I was excited to come here with my wife and son as the pictures looked great. After seeing the prices on the dinner menu, I thought this must be a high-end sushi restaurant. I ordered the dragon roll ($20), Agedashi tofu ($8), and the philly roll ($8). For our mains we ordered the Pork belly ramen ($17), and chicken udon noodle soup ($16). I kid you not... I took one bite of the appetizers and sushi and asked the waiter to cancel the Ramen and Udon if they haven't already started cooking it already. Luckily they didn't start so I didn't have to be more dissapointed. I paid $37 total for those 3 sad plates of food. For premium prices I expected at least a decent japanese cuisine experience, but I could probably get better sushi from the Harris Teeter's across the street while paying much less! We have ate here once and ordered take out numerous times. We did not go in with high expectations because we love another sushi restaurant in Columbia, but we were very happy with our experience over here. The ambiance is pretty chill and nice. The atmosphere is like a typical American restaurant with dim lights. Not like a sushi restaurant. The service has been outstanding. Both for in dining and take out, I have really appreciated there service. The waitress was nice and prompt, and kept our waters filled. She was also helpful in helping us understand their special rolls. For take out the hosts are always awesome! Some times I forget something to order and they are like no problem and get it so fast while I am there. They have never messed up an order over the phone and we have ordered a lot of sushi some times. The rolls are good and our fish is fresh. We go with mostly normal rolls like spicy tuna and shrimp tempura. On occasion we will get a special roll. All the rolls are great. Finally, we can not complain about the price. A friend wanted to meet up for dinner in Maple Lawn, and I was excited to try a sushi place I hadn't really had before. It's not much further than my usual spot, and variety is good, right? Sushi Tendo-U was ... okay, but that's about all I can say for it. Their menu is awesome - it's probably not anything more than any other restaurant's, but it has a lot of pictures. I admit it, as much as I eat sushi, I have no idea what the different fish are actually called, so having the pictograph was kind of fun. They have a pretty wide selection of mixed drinks and sake, too. Unfortunately, I tried to order 3-4 drinks, and was told each one was out. Finally wound up with a bottle of sake that was sharp, musky, and not at all good -- it was just the only one they had. They were also out of one of the soups, and an appetizer I ordered. At this point, I didn't really try ordering any of the other things I wanted, and just went with a sashimi platter. I'm willing to give them a small pass on being out of, like, half the menu -- it was Monday, perhaps they had a busy weekend, and ... you know, everything. But, it was still a little disappointing. None of the dinners come with miso soup - I had to order mine separately. Usually miso or a salad is kind of standard with the dinner. No big deal. Their miso was a little thin, with not much substance to it, but I realise that's how some people like it. The miso came out at the same time as the meal -- I felt a little awkward eating my soup while everyone else ate their sushi. But, then I tucked into the sashimi platter. The presentation on this is really nice, and the amount of fish in each cut is great. None of those little slivers, these were decent sized pieces. They were not the freshest sushi I've ever had -- some of it tasted just a little... supermarket sushi case level. Maybe a little better than that, but not much. I've been here a couple of times so far, and I haven't had a bad experience yet. I'm usually in around lunch time, so the place can be kind of busy. But, that typically has translated into fast service, with no sacrifice to friendliness either. I'm keen on ramen, so that's what I generally order here. Yes, I know it's called SUSHI Tendou, and I have had the sushi as well. It's good, for sure, but not rave-worthy perhaps. Tasty, well-made, but nothing earth-shattering. What I really enjoyed, though, was the ramen. I'm not sure why they add halved cherry tomatoes and baby bok choy to the bowl but almost every bowl of ramen I've tried has had different vegetation on top. When in Rome, I guess... I do wish they'd offer a lunch pricing for the ramen, though, as a bowl will set you back near $14 for the basic chicken. Beef and shrimp are $15. They're really delicious, and definitely filling, but it's just a bit more than you might expect to spend. Still, without many other sushi/ramen options in Maple Lawn, this hits the spot when the craving arises. I definitely preferred the shoyu broth over the miso one, but that's a personal preference thing of course. Try them both and you decide. They're both tasty so you can't go wrong. Overall, great food, fast/friendly service, and okay prices. P.S. The kani salad was quite nice, very fresh, and heavy on the spicy side. This is a standard sushi location that you'll find in the DMV. The fish is fresh but not mind-blowing. The rice is a little over cooked (but not too much) and a tad flavorless. Service was excellent and the decor is clean and crisp. When you're offered the choice between soup and salad, I'll be taking the soup next time. As you'll see from my photo, the salad was swimming (drowning) in dressing...and the dressing has the mysteriously familiar taste of Big Mac Special Sauce (minus the relish) which was a little off-putting. I had the sushi deluxe and a "Spicy Crunchy Scallop Roll" (they were out of Toro (which impressed me that it was even on the menu!)). I'm not a fan of cucumber in my rolls so you'll notice from the pics that there's none in there. All in all the sushi was fine. My eyes weren't rolling back in my head, but I also wasn't disappointed in what was served. If you'd like a nice quiet setting and you're not far from Fulton, Maryland, then this may be the perfect spot for you. I'd probably go back but only if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening with my girlfriend. We were seated at a table quickly, and the place is clean and well-decorated. We shared the edamame and chicken-pork gyoza appetizers, and I ordered the beef ramen while my girlfriend ordered the gator roll. The edamame was a bit bland; there appeared to be little to no salt added despite the menu stating there would be. The gyoza were good, but not quite as crispy as I would have hoped. Since Tendou seems to be sushi-focused, I wasn't expecting life-changing ramen, but the beef ramen was still a bit of a disappointment. It was maybe just a step or two above something I could make at home with a packet of instant ramen, some toppings from my fridge, and minimal effort. The menu stated all ramen would be served with several toppings, including an egg, bok choy, scallions, and tomato. The tomato and scallions were not present in my bowl, and the egg was more done than what I'd typically find in higher-end ramen I've had before. The beef was a bit chewy and flavorless. It was also served with a fork (?) which is not something I've ever seen with ramen before, and it would have been a bigger issue if the broth wasn't kind of bland as well. My girlfriend enjoyed the gator roll though, so perhaps I should have gone with some sushi instead. Service was nice and fast, so I'd consider returning to try a sushi roll sometime, but other sections of the menu just seem to be pretty hit-or-miss. read more

Great spot for sushi in the Fulton area. Their rolls are decidedly fresh with unique Japanese flavours. Even when we stopped in late about an hour before closing, the rice was warm and tempura crispy from the kitchen. Definitely made to order. They put their own twist on many of the traditional menu rolls, with fresh toppings like strawberries and such. Paired with Japanese staples like rice wine, they make each bite a flavourful experience. Entrees are good too. Also prepared with authentic Japanese ingredients, they are equally as good as the sushi. Preparation is traditional Japanese style, with grilled chicken vs fried katsu in the teriyaki, etc. Portions are generous, and food is served quickly. The atmosphere is nice and cozy in this corner shop. Booths are comfortable, and the windows afford a good view. Everything is nice and clean. The staff is friendly and works hard to ensure a good experience. Definitely recommended for a delicious Japanese and sushi experience. read more

Came here on a Saturday night, immediately greeted (+1), & was sat w/in minutes. Inside decor looked very modern & trendy. Saw maybe 2 servers works a big section. We started off w/ tempura fried calamari w/ a side of unknown sauce, which wasn't peanut sauce but still very flavorful. I asked our server what the was; her response in broken English "calamari sauce". (-1) for not knowing the menu bc that sauce had a very good flavor profile. Not knowing is fine, but her tip would have gone up significantly if she at least she "let me check?" or at least pretended to ask but never followed thru. We settled on the "sushi for two" option which had 16 total pieces of sushi & sashimi & miso soup to start. Miso soup lacked flavor & was more watery than we prefer. All the sushi/sashimi tasted fresh & delicious. Since our check was over $50, we got a free spin of their wheel upon out & got a coupon for a free toro sashimi next visit. First of all, this poor rating and review is ALL about the exceptionally terrible service we experienced at Sushi Tendou. What's worse than bad service?? No service at all! We were there for 35 minutes, but couldn't get our server to talk to us. So you know where we're coming from, most of our Yelp reviews are positive, and even when we have not-so-good of an experience ay places we take the high road when leaving reviews. But the treatment at Sushi Tendou was so terrible we had to provide our account. So here it goes.... Quick background - we are Howard County residents and became displaced because of the recent wind storm and deep freeze around Christmas. Our insurance company placed us at the Marriott Residence Inn in Maple Lawn / Fulton, MD, on Tuesday, Dec 27th. After we checked into the Residence Inn, we searched Yelp for restaurants preferably within walking distance. We walked to Sushi Tendou across the street in the shopping center. It had a 4 out of 5-star rating on Yelp. We arrived there at 9:10pm (they were open 'til 10pm). In an effort to be considerate to them, I asked the host if they were still serving. He said yes and seated us right away at a table by the window facing the Bandito Mexican restaurant. The host (or someone) came back with water after seating us and said our server would be with us. All good up to this point. There were only three other tables occupied so relatively empty in the restaurant. Two tables did have larger parties and the third table was two women having drinks and finishing up dinner. There seemed to be only one server working, a young woman. There was a total of four Sushi Tendou employees in the room - the sushi chef, the host (who sat us), the server, and another young woman who kept coming out of the kitchen and chatting with the sushi chef. Here is where the problem started. We waited. 15 minutes passed and the server had walked by our table twice. Didn't acknowledge us at all, which we thought was strange. We waited. But still no one came to help us. Then the server came out of the kitchen with a pitcher of water, walked by us again and went to refill glasses at the one party's table. I tried to get her attention by raising my hand. Then she walked right by us again, no eye contact, and went directly back into the kitchen. A few minutes later, she came out with food for the people at the other table. We had now waited 20 minutes without anyone offering to help us. I tried again to make eye contact with the server, sort of standing up as if it would get her attention. Nope -she just would not acknowledge us. As she walked across the room again, I raised my hand and voice to say "excuse me?". No response and no one else came by to help us. The sushi chef was understandably busy doing his job. The host was doing something behind the register. By this time, the two women seated at the table had paid their check and left so there were only three tables occupied now. 25 minutes had gone by and I said to my partner that we would need to get the server's attention or we'll have to leave and go somewhere else although it was probably too late to go anywhere else. I raised my hand and clearly said again, "excuse me??". She again didn't make any eye contact with us. Just ignored us and walked across the room to the other table to take their payment, then went back to the cash register. By this point, I honestly felt as though we were being discriminated against (I'm not exaggerating this). It was over 30 minutes of waiting and trying to get served. There seemed to be a tone coming across from her/them as if they didn't want us there or we were being punished. We just couldn't believe how they totally ignored us. No apologies. No explanation that they might be shorthanded. Absolutely NO word from them. Keep in mind that the room is generally small so you cannot help but see everyone. I looked at my watch and we had waited over 35 minutes before leaving. My partner and I are generally patient people. I actually used to wait tables at a restaurant in college so I know how it can be a tough job. I'm always being polite to our servers, over tipping most of the times, and most importantly giving them the benefit of the doubt. But I truly can't explain why they would not give us the slightest attention. We are Howard County residence and avid foodies. I will absolutely not be going back to Sushi Tendou and be sure to share our terrible experience with my network of friends and family. I am still at the Residence Inn and will be sure to let their staff know about our experience so that other guests don't go through what we did. read more

It was a breeze to make a reservation for two on a Fri night. We had very pleasant service and servers were patient as we took our time to flip through the sushi album! Love the pictures which allows a great visual of what to expect on your plate and the description of ingredients was a neat way to know what all you are getting. The atmosphere is good and the prices are reasonable and the variety of the food is is good. I will tell you that the staff there is the nicest and so accommodating and works with you no matter the size of your party or if somebody just happens to join you and you move to another table they make it happen. With the limited sushi options in the Fulton area, this was a great find. The restaurant was brightly lit with the large windows and the decor was modern enough for a romantic date or nice place to go with friends. I ordered the Lunch Special 3 rolls for $12. Quality is pretty good for the price. I was not blown out of the water, since I didn't order any of the specialty rolls, but also because the salmon avocado roll was primarily composed of avocado and the shrimp tempura was mostly batter with small shrimp. read more
