Expect to pay a lot but in return, gain access to unlimited top tier meats from the land and sea. Gyu San offers three levels of dining. The entire table must have the same level, so talk to your other diners before ordering what level you'd like to go for: Basic gives you their lowest quality cuts of meat and a handful of seafood options and side dishes. This is great for people who want to get their money's worth, especially when pairing their meal with Gyu San's extensive alcoholic cocktail menu. Their middle level offers a larger variety of beef, pork, and seafood, and side dishes. The middle level also offers ramen. The ramen is good, but extremely filling, so I advise avoiding it. This level also includes a one order-per customer wagyu sampler. This is a MUST include to get your money's worth and it will be the highlight of your meal. One of the sides you can unlock at this level is wagyu burgers. While these burgers are great, with a spicy sauce that is fantastic, they sit in your stomach and make it harder to eat more of the unlimited BBQ. If you must try it, order one and split it among your table. The final and most expensive level opens up an all wagyu menu, taking the one-time sampler from the second level and giving you as much as you can handle. In addition, you'll get one order of five unique appetizers, each carefully crafted around high end seafood and wagyu. Each person at the table can also pay an extra $5 for all you can eat sushi, and their sushi is good. If you're ordering from the low tier meats, then adding sushi is worth it for adding variety and good values. For more money saving, you can become a member by asking your server or host, though its only worth it if you plan on coming to Gyu San more often. The place is new, clean, and everyone is friendly.their table top grills are nice as the exhaust port is in the grill as opposed to something hanging from the ceiling so you can see the person you are dining with. We were hungry on a Saturday and wanted to check out Gyu San after walking by it a few times. I tried to call to see if we could get a table, but there was no answer, so we walked in and were surprisingly seated right away. There is a 90 minute limit at each table for the AYCE. When we arrived, they asked if we wanted to do AYCE sushi or barbeque, or both. We just did BBQ this time, but you can add sushi for $5. The AYCE BBQ also includes appetizers that are quite varied. There are three tiers for the BBQ, and the server recommended the Prestige tier, which is the middle and gives you some wagyu options that come in a special box. I believe it is $68 a person, which is a solid deal. The appetizer selection is good. I got the seaweed salad, gyoza, and one of my husband's takoyaki. The seaweed salad was my favorite, the others were fine. The meat quality varied a lot. Some of the cuts were fantastic and really flavorful, and some where flavorless and bland, even with the sauce additions. It was an overall enjoyable experience, and you do get a lot of food in 90 minutes. If you're in the area, it's worth stopping in. Surprisingly, my favorite bite was the seafood tartare or the dressing on the salad. The cuts of meat are pretty good but nothing overwhelming. The meat quality is phenomenal here! I really enjoyed getting the special meat which includes a variety of their beef meats. I also really enjoyed their short rib, house salad, seafood tartare, and the corn fritter. Overall, all of the meats were really tender and enjoyable that I couldn't even tell the difference. I wish you could substitute what comes in a box (not a fan of tongue). Presentation of the meats box is definitely the most bougie and worth the instagram photo. I have been eyeing Gyu San since they posted the coming soon signs month ago. Finally a quality Japanese bbq place in Hoco. I made reservations on Resy and we dined here on a busy Friday. My friends and I chose the master tier with no sushi. Some of our favorite cuts of meat include Wagyu fried rice, pork jowl, prime short rib, AU Wagyu short rib, beef tongue, and the a5 Wagyu top blade . All of the cuts were fresh and delicious. Sometimes a lot of Wagyu can be overwhelming, but there were no stomach issues between the 8 of us here. The service here is next level. The host walked us to our table and went over the menu. The manager stopped by multiple times to check in on us. The ambiance here made us feel like we were dining in Japan. We found ourselves complimenting the Spotify DJ multiple times. This place is so good! Glad to have a JBBQ spot closer to us as the next closest is in Rockville. If you have an inkling of wanting to go here, I recommend making a reservation as we had to wait an hour to be seated -- a lot of people waited as well. First of all the ambiance is amazing, beautifully decorated, very intimate yet spacious and love the lighting! My compliments to Sophia our server, so accommodating and she was great very lovely personality. She made sure to teach us how to order our food in the ipad and which ones are included in our menu. We had the prestige option which is $48.00 per person. It was well worth it since we had all the options of tbe beef, pork and seafood goodness. I loved their kimchi very well made and it compliments the meats. Sophia also changed our grill so that it will be a fresh one after a few times of grilling. She even asked for my name and put it in the digital banner since i was celebrating my birthday with bestfriend there. They sang me happy birthday and made me feel very special. Not sure if this was a newer location (I've been to the location in Arlington). There seemed to be plenty of parking in a nearby garage and some parking lots which were pretty packed. Not sure if the garage normally charges but the gates were up (around 3:30 on a Saturday. We didn't make a reservation and maybe waited 10 minutes before being sat. While we had been to anther location, it had been awhile ago so they re-explained how the AYCE option worked. Lots of options to choose from depending on what type looking for, we ended up going with the legendary. You can become a member here for a discounted price on the menu. They mentioned that they weren't doing a full bar until 4 so we only had some options of canned or bottled. We had initially asked for a drink menu and they said they weren't ready and would provide when available but not sure when other drinks or draft ended up actually becoming availability. It did feel like our pan wasn't super hot to begin with. It just took a really long time to cook the meat. Our Special Meat Section B came out pretty quickly as well as the A5 Waygu Uni Sushi. We had ordered the Gyu San sampler which took probably 30 minutes to come out. When they had brought the Special Meat, they said it would be out shortly but we had to ask almost 20 minutes later. I will say that the Waygu Fried Rice was delicious. Overall, really good cuts and good but there were some of the meat that stuck to the display in our boxes. Gyusan Japanese BBQ and Sushi in Columbia left a strong impression on my first visit, strong enough that I felt compelled to write a review afterward. It already feels like a place I will return to regularly. The space is large, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with great lighting and a polished but comfortable atmosphere. It works well for both date nights and family dinners. Gyusan is currently in a soft launch phase, so a few items may not always be available yet. A membership program is also in development, which should offer reduced pricing over time. Service was a highlight. Ellena did an excellent job explaining the all you can eat format, pacing our orders so we did not overload the grill, and keeping everything running smoothly. The table stayed organized, water glasses were always filled, and nothing was overlooked. We chose the Master's all you can eat menu at 78 dollars per person and added sushi for 5 dollars more. Ordering is done through a tablet at the table, with a brief delay between rounds that never felt restrictive. The menu offers a wide selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, and sides. The premium Wagyu bucket is limited to one per person, which makes sense given the quality and richness. It arrives with a dramatic dry ice presentation, and the beef itself is well worth slowing down for. Standouts included the tuna tartare and Japanese wings, both of which we reordered. Grill items were consistently strong, especially the pork belly and hanger steak. The sushi was fresh and well assembled, holding its own alongside the barbecue. For this style of dining, the pricing feels appropriate for the quality, setting, and service. When compared to other grill at the table concepts nearby, Gyusan feels more refined overall. the brief: new Japanese AYCE-style BBQ located in the Color Burst Park area of Merriweather. I would consider it a mix of upscale dining + AYCE because it did feel like a very luxury experience. I can tell that they're still new and figuring out things like logistics, but it was incredibly delicious and seems like a great spot for a special occasion. As far as pricing goes, it's very similar to other AYCE places where you have to opt for a certain tier for the whole table. Kids get discounted prices if you're bringing kids. You can also opt into a +$5/person for sushi (their sushi was great). There's 3 tiers for the BBQ portion and each tier has progressively higher-quality cuts of meat (think higher grades of wagyu or more premium styles of meat). It starts off at around $63/person for just the BBQ, so it's definitely not cheap, but more on that later. They have not yet introduced it, but you can get -$10 on the price if you are a member. From what it sounds like, it'll cost around $30/year to be a member. In my opinion, the price per person is a bit expensive for my palette, but I will say as far as AYCE places are concerned, it was abundantly clear that the price goes into the quality of the dishes served. Everything ordered felt luxurious and premium. Flavors and presentation were on point. Each item ordered (you can order via server or tablet) comes on an incredibly small plate and if you order a certain number of plates in too short a timespan, they'll put you on a "cooldown period." Service was very nice and accommodating. It felt a little unorganized but nothing that interrupted our experience and totally expected for a place that just opened. For bathrooms, they had ~4 individual rooms (no changing tables) that were labeled all-gender. The rooms were pretty narrow and small, but very modern and clean. A new place just opened, so the bar is not open yet. I'm not gonna hold that against them so let's get down to it. Very Nice ambience I like the design feels different but familiar. The service was good even for being open a few weeks. I think it is great that you order off the iPad they give you suggestions on how to best order. It's all you can eat. They have three different tiers. Tier one gets that tier. You get their two and one comes with it. Tier 3 you get 3, 2, and 1 a few bucks more and you get a sushi. The food came out quickly and I think the servings were perfect per group. If you follow the server suggestions It works out really well. The Food was high-quality. Good cuts. My only itsy-bitsy complaint is I wish the meat had a little more flavor. so you have to order sauces and salt it a little. Besides that it's on par it's really good. I have been waiting for this spot to open for what I believe was the last couple years (or even more). They also have an Arlington location, but I frequent Merriweather often, so really wanted to come here. When I first walked in my jaw was on the ground. I've been to many Asian BBQ spots. I instantly knew this was the most beautiful one I'd ever been to. Whoever designed the interior has a beautiful eye, and the 3D printed labubus are modeled after the 24k gold ones. They're in the soft opening phase right now, so they are not serving liquor yet (waiting on their liquor license). Also, during their soft opening (which may be until the end of the month), you can get the all you can eat (AYCE) sushi for no additional cost (their waiving the $5). As I said in the video, they have a tiered AYCE BBQ menu that has 3 options and it starts at $58 (next two tiers are $68 and $78). All are AYCE but the higher tiers have more premium meats. They have some unique appetizers that I hadn't seen prior at a BBQ spot, like beef fried rice and beef curry rice, so definitely want to try those when I come back. I thought the shrimp fry, chicken wings, and shrimp tempura roll were pretty good. The meats were also good and good quality. The only real cons is that it's pricier than other BBQ spots I've been to and some items didn't come out super fast, but I'm very intrigued by this spot and want to go back. We came here for my wife's birthday. Finding a parking spot in the lot right outside the restaurant is very challenging so we had to park inside the garage behind Busboys and Poets. The hostesses were kind as we waited 30 minutes for a table. We looked over the menu as we waited and they answered some of our questions such as the membership pricing and which choice was most popular. We opted for the Master, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I went in with the wrong expectations for the menu based off the menu from their website- the selection atleast for this location is pretty small. There's little to no seafood options unlike the website, and there's only a few selections for sides and vegetables. It was overall pretty good, it wasn't for my palette as someone who doesn't like a strong beef flavor but it was a good quality and the boyfriend liked it. Their seafood tartar was mind blowing, carpaccio was great, and their A5 short rib was amazing. I can't say I'd ever buy the top tier again, wasn't particularly worth it over the other tiers. I do think you get plenty of value even at the lowest tier, but the higher end with the other wagyu affairs certainly did not miss. My friend lives nearby, so we decided to check out this new restaurant I kept seeing on my IG feed! We went during the soft opening (10/18/25) and there was an special for sushi items. It usually is an extra $5 more for sushi per person, but because of the soft opening, that was waived. The restaurant atmosphere is so fun and trendy. There is a sushi bar in the center with circular "shoji screen-esque" designs that light up, and an alcohol bar on the side. I believe they were still waiting on a liquor license. I also noted some private rooms along the wall with sliding doors that have more traditional japanese seating . Next to the kitchen, there is a wall with golden Labubu figures (the owner had custom 3D printed, the eyes can change when you roll them - we got to see one of these figures upclose) and stacks of gold bar figures on top and a curtain with the japanese kanji characters for "yaki*niku", which means "grilling meat/ BBQ". The menu has 3 different tiers to choose from. Starting with the Prestige, then Master or Legend. There are member pricing and regular pricing. We chose the Prestige. All members of the party need to pick the same tier. There is a 90 minute dining limit that starts with the first order. Wasted food will be charged 10%, so please dine responsibly. There were so many items on the menu to choose from! I completely didn't see the sampler platter items... that would've helped to make things easier I feel. There is an iPad at the table that you can order from. There are pictures for most items which is suoer helpful! Ranging from appetizers, beef, chicken, pork, seafood, vegetables, sauces, & (other tiers: special appetizers and meats). Just in sushi alone there were rolls, appetizers, tacos and specialty rolls. Wow, what a selection! The meat is very high quality and from a chosen selection. There are a few slices (2-3) with each order. The marbling on the wagyu beef was phenomenal. There was a Wagyu Fried Rice with slices of perfectly cooked wagyu, which was sooo tasty and a big portion. Fried items like the Takoyaki Mentaiko Sauce (crispy outside and gooey inside with octopus), Karaage Chicken, Shrimp Fry (interesting presentation), Crispy Gyoza Dumplings, Corn Butter Karaage (interesting, corn ribs deep fried) and Nori Shio Fries (seaweed and salt) were perfectly crispy and came out hot. The Seafood Tartare: "tuna, salmon, abalone tempura flake with Yukke sauce" was flavorful and fresh. The Poki Sushi Taco: "diced salmon, diced tuna tobiko and avocado on top of sushi rice with nori" concept was interesting and yummy. I also got the Salmon Avocado and Spicy Tuna Rolls. She was very friendly, professional and attentive. A+! She helped us change the grill safely by putting the hot grill in a safety holder and refilled our drinks at the right time. Definitely helped to make it a positive experience. Ventilation in the restaurant is pretty good, as I didn't feel drenched in the smell of food afterwards, which is pretty rare for BBQ places. I'm happy there were 3 of us, as we ended up ordering waaay too much food because we wanted to try different things. We were stuffed to the gills! They were pretty busy that day as it's a new restaurant and there's a lot going on. There were some things that new restaurant face, that I'm sure they will work out over time. We were able to get a table during their soft opening and tried the middle tier -$78 a person with a group of 4. The meat is pricey but delicious and with four people we were able to try a larger variety of appetizers. The ambiance was upscale and well-decorated, with gold and bamboo themed dish ware. The service was pretty good even on a busy first weekend. I think we will be back to try more flavors from here. read more

Overall: beautiful new restaurant, delicious food, all you can eat pricing, good service, private rooms available, single stall restrooms, high chairs but no baby changing pads We went with people from age 1-67 and everyone was full and happy. There is only all you can eat options, so the prices are steep, but I feel like for an event it's worth it. There are three different tiers. We did Prestige which is the lowest, but it was excellent. You're supposed to pay $5 extra to include sushi, but since they just opened they waived that for us. We tried so many of the sushi rolls. We loved that they had specialty rolls as well. I didnt try a single thing I didn't like. The meats, appetizers, sushi, and desserts were all good. It was cool that you could order with the server or with the iPad. There is a forced break between orders on the iPad, so keep that in mind when you are organizing those orders. Kids have different prices based on their heights. We were happy with the service and delighted by all the food. We will definitely be back. My only complaint is that they didn't have a changing table in any of the bathrooms which was super tough with a one year old. read more

This is my first update on a yelp review and I must say that Gyusan has scored with one of the best waiters in the business with Deon! My mother in law was visiting from out of state and he made the experience phenomenal. Unlike our previous visit, the food came out in a timely manner instead of everything at once. We were also informed of the dessert option that isn't even listed in the tablet menu. We finally made it to Gyu San! Had a great experience mainly due to our amazing waiter Sam. There is a lot that goes into ordering and the overall process that you need someone who is willing to walk you through. This was our first time, so that could have been why we needed a bit more attention. However, it still helps to have an explanation of the process. We went with the prestige package (silver) which is $58 pp. You get a pretty good variety of items with that package. You're allowed to order 15 items at a time and are given 90 minutes to dine. Food comes out quickly so you can definitely get your money's worth. The meat portions are a bit small and the meat is sliced pretty thin. Not a huge deal, just an observation based on my experiences at other Japanese bbq spots. We also went with the AYCE sushi for $5. Such a great deal! Sushi was amazing. Oh and the sauces that come with your meal are out of this world! The dessert was just okay...they have a wide variety of mochi ice creams and a matcha cheesecake. Wasn't a huge fan of either. The spot is beautifully decorated with a great vibe. Worth giving it a try. Not a place we'd go regularly but definitely on special occasions. read more

My fiancé and I got the all you can eat hour and a half (whatever the lowest priced version was called) and I can say it was very delicious. The place is also aesthetically pleasing. We got a delicious assortment of meats, seafood, and sushi plus maybe some of the best fried rice in the dmv. The only things holding back from a 5, no liquor license just yet. Also sometimes it took a little while for service, for example we waited 5-7 minutes as they switched the grill out. Not great when you're on a 90 min timer!! We had a party of 4, didn't want to too fancy, so went with the prestige package...and we were not disappointed. This is a Japanese style bbq restaurant, hence meats quality is much finer compared to Korean style BBQ. Portion is much smaller as well. Since it is all you can eat, with 10min between eat order to the kitchen is place, you can order as many time as you with a 90min dinning time limit. Our favorite meat choice are: toro kalbi, top blade, spicy short blade and couple of the steaks. Wagyu was juicy but a little too fatty for elders in the family. Gyu San sampler was a great choice to order, pleasing presentation and allow you to try more varieties with tasting portion. Grilled corns were kids favorite, we ordered 3 times LOL. Beef fried rice was flavorful and delicious. Wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We tried 4 different kind of sushi rolls, and ate all with complete satisfaction. I came here for lunch around 12 pm and it was pretty empty. Our server explained the menu which is three tiers, lowest tier being $59 which is pretty pricy. We ordered everything on an iPad and it was all brought to us. When the food was brought to us, the staff didn't tell us what it is or how long to cook each thing for, so we had to keep asking. Additionally, when we asked how long to cook the meat for, they just said when it turns brown which was extremely vague and unhelpful cause then we started overcooking everything. I had questions for what was on the menu and the staff had to get back to me as it didn't seem like they were familiar with what they were selling. We asked our server to cook the wagyu and she turned the fire on high then the fire got overwhelming so a different server turned it to low then told us that we should've cooked it on low. We explained a different server purposely turned it on high to cook the Wagyu and they didn't say anything, so it was overall a very confusing and vague experience for something so pricy. At $59 it shouldn't have been that difficult to understand what was going on. The sushi tasted okay, the meat didn't taste very fresh but the presentation was nice. Even in my picture of the sushi taco u can see that the color isn't vibrant. Anyway, as of 12 hours later, my friend and I were both extremely nauseous, and I have officially thrown all of it up. read more

Went here after seeing it earlier in the day when I was getting ice cream. This place is new and still doing their soft opening (no alcohol served yet, all you can eat sushi which is normally a $5 add-on was free). The service here was excellent; our waiter was very friendly, honestly, and came by many times to help us out and check on us. They have three tiers; prestige which is the lowest $58 dollars (not sure what the member price is which said $48) and then they also have two more options which come with A5 wagyu and more premium dishes (we went with the prestige since my friend could not eat beef which is what the premium options mainly consist of). We ordered a lot of stuff; Everything from appetizers, to the meat sampler, to a variety of different meats, as well as a sushi roll. Appetizers;. We got the karage corn which was delicious; fried pieces of corn with some of the husk still attached. Buttery and delicious. Takoyaki - honestly one of my favorites; there were actually generous chucks of octopus inside and it was on the more gooey side (I love gooey insides, it reminds me of the takoyaki I had in Osaka many times) Entree: we got the meat sampler which I think is a great choice if it's your first time. It lets you figure out what you like and don't like. I think some labels would be nice in my opinion. The quality of the meat was really good. Now that I've been here once, I would probably skip the sampler and order the meats that I liked. I personally mainly ate the prime short rib: great marbling and the meat is very tender. Honestly all the beef's that I had were really nice. Fresh and nice umami flavor that goes well with the sauces they give. Even though they don't have that many pork options, the pork was really good; I thought this was definitely one of the better pork jowels that I had; more marbled and melt-in-your-mouth than other places where it's just fatty without much marbling. The pork belly was also yummy! Overall we ate a lot; we also had a dragon roll too which was good but honestly I would skip next time. I appreciated that the sushi was not extra since it's the soft opening but it is a lotttt of food. So personally, I would stick to the meats and appetizers WHEN I go back. They were out of most of the desserts but they had the matcha cheesecake which was okay and the yuzu cheesecake which was nice and citrusy. Overall we had a great experience; the staff were friendly, the food was great quality, and the food came out fast. It's pricey but I think it's definitely worth what you are getting. Will definitely come back. Also they got these cool golden labubus everywhere. Whoever did the designing of the restaurant knows what they are doing. Very nice vibe. read more
