Came in a Friday afternoon for lunch. We got seated right away and our host gave us a quick run down of the AYCE menu. Then the ordering started. Everything came out at a good time and the food was delicious. The BBQ meats were good and we definitely appreciate the portion size. Would come back with a group of friends.

We had an excellent experience at Gyu San. A Japanese barbecue spot with a diverse set of options of meats, seafoods, and sides with great service and drinks. If you're in the area, it's worth stopping in. Surprisingly, my favorite bite was the seafood tartare or the dressing on the salad. The cuts of meat are pretty good but nothing overwhelming. The drinks are very good and we did have great service. The vibe is sophisticated fun, which we enjoyed. It's definitely a step up from Gyu Kaku, but I'm not sure the price matches the quality of meat.

The meat quality is phenomenal here! I really enjoyed getting the special meat which includes a variety of their beef meats. I also really enjoyed their short rib, house salad, seafood tartare, and the corn fritter. Overall, all of the meats were really tender and enjoyable that I couldn't even tell the difference. Our server was very nice and came by often to check on us even though we ordered everything (besides alcoholic beverages) through a tablet. The vibe inside was pretty dimmed and intimate. The prices are fairly high, so I recommend coming there if you can eat a lot. They also have AYCE sushi for $5 more which is awesome. They also have ramen which I didn't get to try.

Gyu San looks great and has a fun, lively vibe, but your wallet will definitely feel it. The prices are high, and while the meats were fine, they weren't anything special for what you're paying. Wagyu fried rice was not very flavorful. We did the premium all you can eat Diamond tier for $98. Some cuts were good, others were pretty forgettable. I wish you could substitute what comes in a box (not a fan of tongue). Presentation of the meats box is definitely the most bougie and worth the instagram photo. Service and atmosphere were solid, but for a Japanese BBQ spot at this price point, we expected better meat quality. Worth a try if you're going for the ambiance, just don't expect to be blown away by the food.

I have been eyeing Gyu San since they posted the coming soon signs month ago. Finally a quality Japanese bbq place in Hoco. I made reservations on Resy and we dined here on a busy Friday. My friends and I chose the master tier with no sushi. Some of our favorite cuts of meat include Wagyu fried rice, pork jowl, prime short rib, AU Wagyu short rib, beef tongue, and the a5 Wagyu top blade . All of the cuts were fresh and delicious. Sometimes a lot of Wagyu can be overwhelming, but there were no stomach issues between the 8 of us here. The service here is next level. The host walked us to our table and went over the menu. The manager stopped by multiple times to check in on us. The ambiance here made us feel like we were dining in Japan. We found ourselves complimenting the Spotify DJ multiple times. Seating here is perfect for all party sizes up to 8. I will definitely be back to try some of their other cuts and the higher legend tier.

This place is so good! Glad to have a JBBQ spot closer to us as the next closest is in Rockville. If you have an inkling of wanting to go here, I recommend making a reservation as we had to wait an hour to be seated -- a lot of people waited as well. I did try to make a reservation but it didn't allow for reservations to be made online for parties less than 4. We ordered from the prestige menu which als included AYCE wagyu! You can order 15 dishes at a time. The place itself is really nice. I noticed a lot of folks were there for special events. As for parking they gave a garage that we didn't use and the street/lot was pretty full (we got the last spot) on a Saturday night which makes sense!

First of all the ambiance is amazing, beautifully decorated, very intimate yet spacious and love the lighting! My compliments to Sophia our server, so accommodating and she was great very lovely personality. She made sure to teach us how to order our food in the ipad and which ones are included in our menu. We had the prestige option which is $48.00 per person. It was well worth it since we had all the options of tbe beef, pork and seafood goodness. I loved their kimchi very well made and it compliments the meats. Sophia also changed our grill so that it will be a fresh one after a few times of grilling. She even asked for my name and put it in the digital banner since i was celebrating my birthday with bestfriend there. They sang me happy birthday and made me feel very special. Overall the experience was great and i had a wonderful time. The desserts were great too especially the mochi ice cream. Very indulgent. And Sophia gave me as a birthday present a $25 giftcard plus $10 gold bar for the next time we go! How amazing is that?! Thank you Gyusan for a wonderful birthday dinner experience!

Not sure if this was a newer location (I've been to the location in Arlington). There seemed to be plenty of parking in a nearby garage and some parking lots which were pretty packed. Not sure if the garage normally charges but the gates were up (around 3:30 on a Saturday. We didn't make a reservation and maybe waited 10 minutes before being sat. While we had been to anther location, it had been awhile ago so they re-explained how the AYCE option worked. Lots of options to choose from depending on what type looking for, we ended up going with the legendary. You can become a member here for a discounted price on the menu. They mentioned that they weren't doing a full bar until 4 so we only had some options of canned or bottled. We had initially asked for a drink menu and they said they weren't ready and would provide when available but not sure when other drinks or draft ended up actually becoming availability. It did feel like our pan wasn't super hot to begin with. It just took a really long time to cook the meat. Our Special Meat Section B came out pretty quickly as well as the A5 Waygu Uni Sushi. We had ordered the Gyu San sampler which took probably 30 minutes to come out. When they had brought the Special Meat, they said it would be out shortly but we had to ask almost 20 minutes later. I will say that the Waygu Fried Rice was delicious. Overall, really good cuts and good but there were some of the meat that stuck to the display in our boxes. Service was ok but staff was friendly.

Gyusan Japanese BBQ and Sushi in Columbia left a strong impression on my first visit, strong enough that I felt compelled to write a review afterward. It already feels like a place I will return to regularly. The space is large, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with great lighting and a polished but comfortable atmosphere. It works well for both date nights and family dinners. Gyusan is currently in a soft launch phase, so a few items may not always be available yet. A membership program is also in development, which should offer reduced pricing over time. Service was a highlight. Ellena did an excellent job explaining the all you can eat format, pacing our orders so we did not overload the grill, and keeping everything running smoothly. The table stayed organized, water glasses were always filled, and nothing was overlooked. We chose the Master's all you can eat menu at 78 dollars per person and added sushi for 5 dollars more. Ordering is done through a tablet at the table, with a brief delay between rounds that never felt restrictive. The menu offers a wide selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, and sides. The premium Wagyu bucket is limited to one per person, which makes sense given the quality and richness. It arrives with a dramatic dry ice presentation, and the beef itself is well worth slowing down for. Standouts included the tuna tartare and Japanese wings, both of which we reordered. Grill items were consistently strong, especially the pork belly and hanger steak. The sushi was fresh and well assembled, holding its own alongside the barbecue. For this style of dining, the pricing feels appropriate for the quality, setting, and service. When compared to other grill at the table concepts nearby, Gyusan feels more refined overall. Even in its soft launch phase, Gyusan delivers a high quality dining experience. Between the food, service, and atmosphere, it is a place I fully expect to keep coming back to enjoy.

I went to Gyu San in the Merriweather Pavilion area for my birthday with my family of nine, and we had such a great experience. The space feels modern, open, and really comfortable -- perfect for big groups. The food was honestly delicious. Both the Japanese BBQ and sushi were super fresh, and the AYCE menu had a ton of good options. Ordering from the iPad made everything easy, and the food came out fast even with our large party. The service was great too -- everyone was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, Gyu San is a really solid spot in Columbia. We all left happy, and I'd definitely come back.

the brief: new Japanese AYCE-style BBQ located in the Color Burst Park area of Merriweather. I would consider it a mix of upscale dining + AYCE because it did feel like a very luxury experience. I can tell that they're still new and figuring out things like logistics, but it was incredibly delicious and seems like a great spot for a special occasion. As far as pricing goes, it's very similar to other AYCE places where you have to opt for a certain tier for the whole table. Kids get discounted prices if you're bringing kids. You can also opt into a +$5/person for sushi (their sushi was great). There's 3 tiers for the BBQ portion and each tier has progressively higher-quality cuts of meat (think higher grades of wagyu or more premium styles of meat). It starts off at around $63/person for just the BBQ, so it's definitely not cheap, but more on that later. They have not yet introduced it, but you can get -$10 on the price if you are a member. From what it sounds like, it'll cost around $30/year to be a member. In my opinion, the price per person is a bit expensive for my palette, but I will say as far as AYCE places are concerned, it was abundantly clear that the price goes into the quality of the dishes served. Everything ordered felt luxurious and premium. Flavors and presentation were on point. Each item ordered (you can order via server or tablet) comes on an incredibly small plate and if you order a certain number of plates in too short a timespan, they'll put you on a "cooldown period." Service was very nice and accommodating. It felt a little unorganized but nothing that interrupted our experience and totally expected for a place that just opened. For bathrooms, they had ~4 individual rooms (no changing tables) that were labeled all-gender. The rooms were pretty narrow and small, but very modern and clean. In summary though, everything was delicious and premium. It's definitely an experience and if you're looking for a special meal, Gyu-san is a great place.

I am so glad I got to finally try this place! I will be going back and taking everyone I know here. The food here is amazing and all the drinks were so delicious. The service is amazing and it's just a fantastic all you can eat spot. There are different tiers that you can pick from and I got the highest tier option and it was so worth it! The wagyu was so good and you can pick anything you want off the menu. They also gave us tea and hot sake!

A new place just opened, so the bar is not open yet. I'm not gonna hold that against them so let's get down to it. Very Nice ambience I like the design feels different but familiar. The service was good even for being open a few weeks. I think it is great that you order off the iPad they give you suggestions on how to best order. It's all you can eat. They have three different tiers. Tier one gets that tier. You get their two and one comes with it. Tier 3 you get 3, 2, and 1 a few bucks more and you get a sushi. The food came out quickly and I think the servings were perfect per group. If you follow the server suggestions It works out really well. The Food was high-quality. Good cuts. My only itsy-bitsy complaint is I wish the meat had a little more flavor. so you have to order sauces and salt it a little. Besides that it's on par it's really good. Yes, this place is going to be a contender. Just give it a little bit of time as always this is my opinion I say give it a try make your own conclusion, but come in a couple more weeks when they have drinks on the menu. My server, Leo, did a great job. He'll talk about whiskey and drinks and how best to utilize your time.

The restaurant blends modern and traditional Japanese design and occupies the former space where a coffee shop once stood. There is ample free parking outside, though Friday evenings in this part of Columbia are notoriously busy. Food -- Thoughtfully presented, visually appealing, and made with fresh ingredients. Seafood Miso Soup -- A large bowl filled with whole fresh clams, scallops, shrimp, and green onion. A very generous portion--so much so that she brought some home to enjoy later. Salmon Skin Salad -- Pieces of salmon skin ranging from crispy to slightly chewy, mixed with cucumber, fish roe, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. A delicious combination. Signature Maki - "Maryland" Roll -- Beautifully presented with blue crab, shishito peppers (mild and slightly sweet), Old Bay-torched salmon, spicy mayo, and rice pearls. Both friends quickly devoured theirs. Prices felt somewhat higher than typical mall fare, but the freshness of the ingredients and attention to detail made it worthwhile. The entire staff we encountered were engaging and genuinely seemed happy to be there for their guests. A big nod to management for making hospitality an important part of the dining experience. One minor suggestion: the attractive menus could use periodic checks, as a few pages appeared a bit worn. I would happily recommend a visit--perhaps on a less hectic day so you can enjoy the décor and food at a more relaxed pace. There is also an outdoor patio that will be especially appealing once the warmer weather returns.

I am a lover of tuna and regardless of the roll I order, specialty or regular tuna, they are all delicious. My family and I came in for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Upon arrival, I was shocked to see how packed it was, but that was telling of how good their food is. There were a lot of birthdays being celebrated that evening, and it was a Wednesday. They had a private room available, but there is a food minimum and you have to take your shoes off (floor table set up). Though we were offered the option, we decided to just sit in the main area since we were coming with a few older family members and didn't want them to struggle to put shoes back on later and they prefer sitting in chairs. They have sushi, teriyaki, platters and combination dishes. We all had something different, ordering from the combination options, teriyaki and some sushi on the side. Since we all ordered a special, it came with miso soup and salad. The food was brought out in a staggered manner - three out of the five of us got our food before the others, and they almost finished half of their dish before ours even came out. I had the beef teriyaki and I was shocked to see that it was a large piece of beef, and we were given knives to cut it up. I am used to the meats being already cut up, so this was different. The food was still good though! I will say that I wish there were more broccoli, than bean sprouts accompanying the meat - the dish was still delicious though! The chunk of meat was so large that I actually had leftovers to bring home as a second meal. The sushi was impressive. Not only was the selection so large and I wanted to order every single one of the special rolls (but I didn't because my eyes tend to be bigger than my stomach), they use all fresh ingredients. The shumai was unimpressive, but because everything else was good, I didn't really mind it. I feel like my rice bowl was not full, as most restaurants pack the rice into the bowl; whereas I felt like there were air pockets in mine so there was a little less. To my surprise, they had a decent dessert menu: several ice cream options, variety of mochi and a few cake selections. Because they knew we were celebrating a birthday, they surprised us with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with different cookies to share! It came out with a sparkler, and the employees singing along to a soundtrack played on the speakers. This really made my sister feel so special, and as I said before, it seemed like most of the larger parties there were also celebrating a birthday that evening. Delicious food, friendly service, easy parking and fun atmosphere!

The decor was beautiful with booth and table style seating. The menu itself was organized very straightforward with appetizers and the different types of noodle offerings in an easy-to-read way. Most importantly, the food was great. Everything was really well balanced with a great depth of flavor. The noodles had a good bite/chew to them. My only nitpick was that the chashu was a bit tougher than I typically like, but it wasn't that big of a deal. It was my first time trying an arubasoba style noodle dish and I tried one of their local flavors in the old bay eki. It was very bright/fresh and had great pops of cajun flavor from the Old Bay. Very well done. The chicken karaage seemed like a great deal for $8 and it was also done very well. Very juicy and tender pieces of chicken with a great fry to them. A very good experience through and through and would love to visit again soon.

I reviewed the menu in advance and already had my mind set on the Sukiyaki Don -- a rice bowl with marinated beef, onions, and scallions. When I arrived, I initially planned to place my order at the kiosk for carryout. However, a staff member promptly acknowledged me, so I opted to order directly with her instead. My food was ready in record time--less than five minutes later, I was on my way. At first glance, the container seemed quite small, but once I plated the contents, the portion felt more substantial than expected. The beef was flavorful, tender, and nicely fatty--just how I prefer it. That said, the ratio of meat to rice was a bit unbalanced, with significantly more rice than beef. As a result, I found myself wishing for more sauce to better complement the rice and ended up adding soy sauce. Overall, the service was quick and friendly, and the entree was enjoyable. A slightly more generous portion of beef and/or sauce would have elevated the dish further.
