We researched and decided to look for this restaurant and it was easy to find. The place is clean and nicely decorated. Their restroom is clean and the decor in the front also touches the restroom. The waitress was nice. It took longer to get our food but we ordered a lot so understandable. The smell is so good. You can watch them do their prepping through the glass. Our soup was steaming when it arrived. Beef so soft and delightful. Shrimp fried rice is so good and fresh. The pot belly we ordered made us order more rice because the sauce was very tasty. Stopped by for a late meal, was craving dumplings and dan dan doodle. The dumplings tasted more like frozen one, and it had a weird aftertaste, was not enjoyable. The thai tea did not taste like the traditional/ normal ones you usually get at other places. The dan dan noodles was pretty decent, super spicy but not bad. I've been here a few times and have tried over a dozen dishes. Like most Chinese restaurants, this place has a HUGE menu. Whether you want rice, noodles, vegetarian, dumplings, or baos...they got you. This is a cool casual spot located in a shopping center in Alexandria. Parking is decent thanks to a fairly large lot but it does get crowded, especially during rush hour, since its right off Duke St. The XLBs here are pretty good. The peking duck baos were too doughy and didn't have enough duck for my liking. The Yuxiang Eggplant is tasty but a bit too saucy. Braised beef noodle soup is always good. read more

My boyfriend and I went to China a few years ago and we have been searching for good Shanghai dumplings/pork buns in the area ever since. I saw they had them in the menu and that's why we came here for dinner on Friday night. It was not busy at all when we were there but they had a steady food pickup. In addition to the dumplings/pork buns we got the chicken soup dumplings and the string beans. Everything overall was pretty tasty. The Shanghai buns came with a serving of 5 - 2 of them were seasoned nicely inside and the other 3 were bland with no spices. Not sure what happened between those batches. The string beans were a bit salty but otherwise excellent. I did like the soup dumplings but would try something else next time. One of my favorite places to eat authentic Chinese food in Alexandria. Unfortunately, the service here is closed to 0. I have been here for a few times and there's one person acting as the server, picking up calls, deal with delivery. I don't understand why they don't hire an additional person. If you don't have time, don't come here. The food is good, but it's quite expensive for a small portion. My go to is young chow fried rice, and the dumplings. Although it's not the cheapest or in the best location in the DMV I personally thought it was one of the better Chinese spot I've been to. It reminds me of what bobs Shanghai in Rockville, MD used to be before their quality of food dropped. You can tell all the ingredients they use are from good quality and nothing tasted frozen. Seasoning is on point as well and everything tasted clean. Waitress gave me couple recommendations and everything was on point. Their soup dumplings is a must just as good as Din Tai Fung in my opinion. Got the shredded beef with chili pepper noodles which was a 10/10 didn't find any flaws about this dish. Chongqing spicy chicken is a must if you like a little kick to your dish. Also got the egg drop soup with beef. This soup if very comforting but the portion is humongous. This place is turning out to be a family favorite. The food is consistently good and our server always looks to take care of us. There plenty of free parking so going here is no trouble at all. The setting is very casual. We continue trying new dishes but definitely have some favorites that are hard not to order because they are so good. Ordered takeout when I was in town staying with some friends. I wasn't privy to knowing what we ordered but there was a smorgasbord of items. They were all amazing. My takeaway from this is either: 1. My friends have really nailed which the best items in n the menu are. Or 2. Everything on the menu has gigachad aura. When we walked into pickup the food, our host was immediately available with our to-go boxes. Everything was packed nicely and we received an appropriate amount of napkins, chopsticks, hot sauce etc for 3 people. She was smiling and overall the exchange was positive. Was in the mood for Szechuan food so we came to kungfu kitchen. Got a lot of items to try which are pictured below. This included the Shanghai pan fried pork buns, spicy shredded pork with cilantro, pork soup dumplings, chongqing spicy chicken, spicy sliced beef tendon in chili oil, and cucumber salad. To be honest, there was not any dish that stood out to me. It was all fine but a little too pricy for the taste and the portion. Service was meh, there was not enough people working. There was only one waitress who was trying to run the whole entire restaurant, from dine in to carry out. Our order also came out not uniformly, where we got some dishes really early on and some towards the end of our meal. Ambiance was alright and it was clean. This place has some of the best / authentic Chinese food I have had in a long time. They have a serious mismatch between the silly name and the super-legit cooking . My group of 5 got 6 dishes and everything was delicious - soup dumplings, wood ear mushroom salad (amazing), Dan Dan, double cooked pork, and several other dishes were incredible, especially the Sweet and Sour Pork - that was turbocharged with citrus flavor and not dumbed down at all. They were even nice enough to make off the menu stewed tomato and egg, which is Chinese comfort food that barely any restaurant has because it's commonly made at home. This was also delicious. It was not full at all which is surprising for a restaurant of this quality. Only ding on this place is that it has no liquor license - not sure whether it is BYOB but would have been nice to have a couple Chingdaos. If you want really high quality, authentic Chinese food then you should check this place out without a second thought. read more

The pan fried dumplings were better I think. I ordered the scallion pancake with meat but the server brought me just scallion pancakes. The decorations are a bit strange. There are Lego figures in the front window and a hand drawn wall. The chopsticks were wooden and seemed like they have gone through a lot of use. I was tempted to ask for disposable ones. We haven't been to kungfu since before Covid, wow has this place gone downhill. This was a solid 4.5 stars before..2 is generous now. Clearly not as popular as previously either - Saturday at 1 and it was empty! Way more workers than customers. The quantity of the noodles has decreased extensively, yet with increased prices. The noodles say "hand pulled", but are soggy with no resistance - definitely not hand pulled! The soup dumplings are also very expensive and taste has changed. Our pork dumplings didn't look thoroughly cooked and all we were given was black vinegar. No ginger, no small spoon to scoop the vinegar. I wanted to love this place, but left extremely disappointed, and tossed half of my food. I ordered online and had someone run out to pick it up for me while I was at work, so I don't have anything to say about the location itself. My coworker ordered the braised pork belly and said it tasted overcooked, "mushy", and oily. We split an order of the steamed bun with pork belly and I will say that was the best part of the meal. It was decently filled and flags a good flavor. I ordered the Chongqing spicy chicken and a side of white rice. For the price of the food I'm surprised rice didn't come with it, but I paid the extra $2 for that. The chicken had an excessive amount of seasoning on it. It was so much seasoning that I couldn't eat the food. I don't think I'll ever return, but if I do it will only be for some more of those steamed buns! read more

Stopped by today to celebrate National Dumpling Day and picked up an order of Pork Soup Dumplings. They did not disappoint, per usual, but I will say the way that they were packaged did not keep them hot/warm. Maybe a different container that holds heat a bit better for takeout would be beneficial. Still didn't stop me from chowing down on them at nearly room temp! They did have a new item on the menu that intrigued me. It is called Cilantro Egg Drop Soup w/Ground Beef or "West Lake Beef Soup", which I found out after a quick google search. I love the "traditional" Chinese take out version but figured I'd give this a try. Man, oh man! That first bite was amazingly delish and I wanted to throw the spoon down and drink it straight from the container! But, I have some kind of home training and refrained from moving forward with that messy idea. So, this soup has tofu in it and tons of beef and cilantro and uses egg whites. It's very filling and the broth is not salty like some versions of egg drop soup can be. It will be definitely be a staple for my to-go comfort food this fall! First off I want to say that I really wanted to enjoy the food here. While the soup dumplings were excellent and were straight fuego, we did not enjoy the rest of the meal. The kung Pao chicken was sweet, never in my life have I had sweet king Pao chicken. The fried rice wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either, definitely a more traditional fried rice. The Chongqing Spicy Chicken to me was not what I expected. It's supposed to be a spicy popcorn chicken style. For me the Chongqing Spicy Chicken was way too crispy, and scratched my throat as if a rock was going down my pipe. Not sure if it was just cooked too crispy or if that's normal, but I did not enjoy. Is this exceptional Chinese food? No. But is it good for the DMV area? Yes. Out of all the Chinese restaurants that make dumplings and XLBs, this place probably has the best ones I've had in the area. Come with low expectations and you'll be relatively satisfied. I came here for dinner with two friends on Monday dinner and we were seated immediately without problems. PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS - 10.55 Each order comes with six soup dumplings sitting on top of a steamer basket. The soup dumplings were pretty big but flat - the bottom of the dumplings stuck to the basket so there were some unfortunate casualties. Picking each dumpling required extra care. For the XLBs that didn't explode, there was a surprisingly amount of broth (pretty clear and not too oily) in each dumpling and the meat was flavorful. The dumpling skin wasn't amazing, but overall, the XLBs are quite good for the area and worth checking out. SHANGHAI PAN-FRIED PORK BUN - 12.75 The bread was crisped well and there was some soup in some of the buns! However, I thought there could be more pork in these buns. At least the bread was flavorful and tasty by itself. There's five per order and I'd definitely recommend giving them a try. My friends and I enjoyed them. HOUSE SPECIAL STIR-FRIED NOODLES - 15.25 We could not tell what flavor profile these noodles were going for. There was chicken, beef, and seafood in these noodles. Noodles were more soggy than it was stir-fried. Overall, it was really oily and didn't have a distinguishable flavor so this was a very subpar entree that we would not recommend. FRIED STRING BEANS - 11.95 These were pretty tasty (hard to mess up a staple like this) but there wasn't a lot to begin with. It's one of the two or three vegetable options they have here. We tried the braised beef noodle soup, duck baos, xiao long bao, smashed cucumbers, and salt and paper fried shrimp. We really enjoyed the duck baos and xiao long baos, but they weren't the best we had. The soup and everything else was pretty mediocre. What better way to get back to this beloved (past and now present again) hobby of mine than to review my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE restaurant in the Northern Virginia area? I've been getting takeout from Kungfu Kitchen countless times over the past few years. This restaurant is extraordinary! The food is always tasty, the portions are generous, and you can just tell that the food is made with love! I absolutely love love love Sichuan food, and the Poached Beef in Hot Chili Oil from Kungfu Kitchen never fails to turn even the worst of days and weeks around. It's my absolute comfort and soul food, and I will get it time and time again. I've also ordered and loved their dumplings, and their spicy string bean dish is also an absolute go-to for me. The service here is impeccable - they're very caring and kind. If I could give Kungfu Kitchen 5 million stars (instead of just a mere 5), I absolutely would!
