Good spot near the metro and away from all of the hubbub further down King St. with lots of street parking. I didn't realize it was in the hotel there! There's a bar and lots of seating. It wasn't very packed on a Thursday evening which is probably a good thing as it seemed like only one guy was serving, but he did a great job. The food was absolutely amazing. From the restaurant week menu, you can get an app, an entree which comes with rice and plain or garlic naan, and rice pudding for $35 which is such a steal. I got the lamb momos which were so tender and delicious and a very yummy chicken vindaloo which was spicy and a huge serving (I saved the rest for my lunch tomorrow). I wasn't a big fan of the rice pudding but that's just because I'm a little picky. Will absolutely be coming here again! read more

Located far from the busy touristy shops on King Street in Old Town, this restaurant is located in a hotel lobby. Indochen -- the dishes are Indian and Chinese, and we were the only diners in this quiet lobby. We sampled samosas, salmon momos, butter naan, mango avocado salad (so much ripe mango), chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. The food was brought out to us quickly ( we were the only ones there), and it was hot and delicious. Nothing was overly spicy, and the tikka masala sauce was complex and so good you wanted to soak it all up with the naan. A very enjoyable and relaxing meal. read more

I decided to stop here for mid afternoon lunch before I went to D'Brow Beauty. I've always passed by it, and have been curious about the food. It appears that the restaurant is part of a hotel although I'm not sure which one. It was pretty empty when I arrived and I wasn't sure if I could seat myself or had to wait because there wasn't a host/hostess in front. After a couple of minutes, a woman came from behind the bar to seat me right by the window. I did notice that the floor under my table wasn't swept which was odd being it was rather slow. She handed me the menu, and since I had perused it before I arrived, I told her I was ready to order. She did serve me water, but it was room temperature so I asked for some ice to go with it. Another guy came out from the back to look between both jugs at the serving station to determine which one had ice to serve me. I thought it was rather funny that she didn't ask if I wanted ice before she served me water. I ended up ordering the chili chicken and palak paneer. They served me the chili chicken first, and brought out the palak paneer almost 25 minutes later. The chili chicken was very savory and spicy, but you could avoid the spice by not eating the jalepeno pepper. When they finally brought out my rice, I'd say the chili chicken on top of the rice could have been its own dish. The palak paneer was a generous serving although I wish they would have brought out more rice to go with it. It was pretty flavorful and I had enough to take home. I think this is a decent option for Indian food although I'm not sure I'd return. I'd say give it a try! read more

Once again eating here at the hotel and trying a few new things while sitting at the bar and being to interrogate the bartender on my upcoming choices. It quiet tonight First round, crispy kale chat. New to me. Fried kale with mint, spice yogurt, tamarind, and a mango relish with some pomegranate tossed in. It's really good. Then at the risk of being too spicy tried the Chili MoMo chicken which has just a little heat despite being indicated as spicy on the menu which their chilly chicken is spicy. Of note, one of their specialty drink is a 30 day oak barrel aged Manhattan. $18 for what frankly a two for one and it's good. Last course is garlic naan and butter chicken. Absolutely yummy. Stayed in Alexandria on King Street to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC. Although there was an 85% chance of rain, it didn't start until 8 pm. Uber prices were super high, so we crossed the street and stumbled upon this gem. We started with the pork belly appetizer. It was cooked to perfection and the orange glaze was a perfect dip. Next, we ordered the Chicken Biryani Bowl and it was tasty. I opted for the Fish Mandarin after seeing the pictures online. It was better than I expected. Everyone was taking a piece to try, that's how much meat it had and the mandarin sauce made this dish even more delectable. For dessert, we shared a Gulab Jamun. The perfect end to a rainy night. Overall, the service was really good. Even though we were the last ones in before closing, we received the royal treatment. We didn't feel rushed in any way. So glad this place was across our hotel. We were there on a Saturday evening for dinner. We made a reservation for 2 but seemed like one of their leaner nights. May not have needed it! Got seated quickly at a lovely window table (ask for it when you do the reservation and they obliged beautifully!). I had a Gin and Tonic and my partner a Mango Lassi! We had Vegetable Momos which were ok but a bit on the colder side. We had Palak Panneer, Vegetable Chow Mein and Garlic Naan. The Garlic Naan was very good. I was a little skeptical when I saw that I was attached to a hotel however the decor was bright and modern and classy. The tables were spread out so it was easy to converse. I walked into the hotel entrance so I had no idea it was part of the lobby of a hotel! It was a late lunch and there may have been ONE other person in there at the bar. I was glad I stopped in. I had a simple meal - the chicken curry bowl. It was fresh and flavorful with the right amount of spice! The servers were very attentive to both my beverage, my food and my comfort. I met a girlfriend here on a Sunday evening during restaurant week. We made reservations, but it was surprisingly not filled with people, likely due to it being superbowl Sunday. The restaurant is gorgeous! Nicely decorated and very chic! Even the glassware was gorgeous! The restaurant week menu was very attractive and filled with much to choose from but my friend and I both ordered from the regular menu. I ordered a seasonal brandy apple cider (yum) along with tandoori spiced salmon. It was very good! My friend and I shared chilli momo which was the best snack I've had from anywhere in a long time! I had been to the location near the Van Dorn metro before, for takeout several years ago, but the new (ish) King Street location is excellent as well! I really enjoyed the butter chicken (it had a really great cashew sauce flavor, which complemented the dish well!) and also the crispy kale chaat (it was perfectly crispy and flavorful). Our table ordered the following: -Mango Drink -Signature House Aged Manhattan -Samosas -Butter Chicken -Crispy Kale Chaat -Garlic Naan -Lamb Vindaloo The service is great - they're very attentive. And I love the ambiance - it's modern and classy and attached to / located in the Hyatt Centric hotel. But it doesn't feel like most other hotel lobby restaurants, as it's cozy and seems to be a separate restaurant all on its own. I will certainly be back for more delicious food from here! read more

The spices, the texture, the way the sauce enrobed the rice to give delicious bites every time... so good. If you're looking for a cocktail, you cannot go wrong with the aged Manhattan. Indochen is in the Hyatt centric but doesn't feel like it's a hotel restaurant at all. It's a large space with large windows, many tables and a good sized bar. Speaking of the bar, my fave espresso martinis are made here. I've even come by just for them alone. When I'm not hitting up the espresso martinis, the mango lassi is a good way to go. But the goodness doesn't stop there. The food is great. My choices aren't mind blowing but they're always delicious. Here's what I think about my standard order: The samosa is delicious, complemented by the sauces, and is large. The butter chicken is cooked perfectly with a flavorful sauce that you want to get every bit of, with naan or rice. I prefer naan - garlic naan, specifically. Since it was restaurant week, I got to try the rice pudding today. FYI, I wouldn't have ordered it otherwise, but it was part of the set meal. It was really good. The cardamom and coconut flavors were delish and the rice was soft. The only dish I wasn't super happy with during one of my visits was the kale chaat. The dumplings are also good, not great. Service is great though - very friendly, and drinks and food appear in an appropriate amount of time. I'll come back many more times in the future. read more

Yayyy! IndoChen has updated their butter chicken recipe. As you can see from my latest photos, they've added herbs and the sauce now nicely soaks the rice. It was delicious with the sautéed mushrooms I ordered. Here's how I assembled my plate in case you want to try it too. Take a small portion of rice, same portion of mushrooms on top of the rice, then top that with the chicken butter sauce, and lastly a few pieces of crunchy garnish leaves. Lol I'm drooling right now. Stopped by here for restaurant week in January and it was so good! I was able to find street parking pretty easily in the area. When we walked in, I liked the modern vibe they had at this location. For my meal, i ordered the Chicken dumplings, Butter Chicken, and the rice pudding. For restaurant week, i thought it was a really good deal for the price to get an appetizer, main course, and dessert. I enjoyed all of the dishes. We started with cocktails and ordered the pork dumplings as an appetizer. My passion fruit mojito had some much fresh mint - very refreshing. The dumplings were tender and succulent. For entrees, I had the butter chicken and my husband had the lamb vindaloo. Both dishes were amazing!!! The meats were so tender, and the curries had a great depth of flavor. BLUF. The food is good but it's not any more spectacular than many other places I've been I went with four others on a Sunday afternoon. The service was friendly, but I found like we were being rushed along. This was surprising because they were perhaps five tables with people at them in the entire restaurant and we were the only one in this particular waitress" service area. I had mango lassi as my drink, which is usually a go-to thing anytime I visit an Indian restaurant. It was very good and not overly sweet, but it lacked that little bite / tang that I've come to expect in lassi. The mango avocado salad was very delicious, mostly because it had a wonderful dressing on it that had just a little bit of zip to it. The tandoori chicken was not only beautiful to look at but moist and delicious. We had their fried pork dumplings, which were okay but nothing spectacular. My biggest criticism there is that they were on the menu as being hot, and I found them to actually be a little bland. Would I go back? If others were going and I happened to be nearby yes. But it would not be a destination that I would pick out because although it was good it wasn't any more special than other places I've been to nearby. read more

Before I even get to the food, they deserve five stars solely based on how they treat their patrons. I accidentally placed an order with a pickup time 15 minutes after I'd ordered (that's what I get for lending someone my phone to map us back to our hotel). They were so kind and apologetic (I should've been the one apologizing to them!) when my food wasn't ready at the time my order said. They tossed in a complimentary dessert.
