IndoChen is a nice Indian restaurant located inside the Hyatt Old Town in Alexandria, VA. I enjoyed dining here when we arrived and wanted a quick dinner. We enjoyed the tikka salmon. They had really good French 75s as well. The samosa's had a good flavor but were cooked a bit too firm for my liking. Very difficult to cut into these. We also ordered the pork belly but that was dry and overcooked. Not a fan of it. The staff here were pleasant.
BUTTER CHICKEN and CHEENI ESPRESSO *chef kiss* Great food, Environment is peaceful , best customer service I've seen out here constantly checking in and asking to refill my glass the moment it's empty.
Service friendly. Server did help us order since it was our first time. She did steer us right! Their version of tres leche cake amazing sooo be sure to save room for dessert! Everything ordered was good. Portion sizes fair, and enough to share. Kale salad was interesting and delicious, if you like Kale, it's a worth it. Lamb dumplings were great, mango salad was naturally sweet, and spring rolls also good. I was nervous it wasn't going to be good because we went at a slow time. Was happily surprised! Also the mint tea was delicious. If you are a tea drinker definitely order the tea! Really good!
You have to enter the Hyatt Centric to get to this real gem of a restaurant. The interior is a mix of styles which I found to be comfortable without being heavy handed. My server was personable and helpful in recommendations. I pondered lamb and spicier offerings but went with the chicken curry dinner which was perfect in terms of level of heat and overall quality. In fact, this may have been the most satisfying Indian meal I've ever had dining out. And the price was more than fair for the food quality. I'm hoping to get back and bring my friends with me...
The food was incredible!! Very low key place by the hotel. Service was good and it has a very intimate feeling in some sections.
My hotel was right across the street. I heard great things. Indochen is located inside of the Hyatt. My family truly enjoyed our experience. The service was great. My kids had the Butter Chicken and loved it. Food was great. The ambiance was nice. It was nice inside and clean.
Located far from the busy touristy shops on King Street in Old Town, this restaurant is located in a hotel lobby. Indochen -- the dishes are Indian and Chinese, and we were the only diners in this quiet lobby. We sampled samosas, salmon momos, butter naan, mango avocado salad (so much ripe mango), chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. The food was brought out to us quickly ( we were the only ones there), and it was hot and delicious. Nothing was overly spicy, and the tikka masala sauce was complex and so good you wanted to soak it all up with the naan. A very enjoyable and relaxing meal.
I decided to stop here for mid afternoon lunch before I went to D'Brow Beauty. I've always passed by it, and have been curious about the food. It appears that the restaurant is part of a hotel although I'm not sure which one. It was pretty empty when I arrived and I wasn't sure if I could seat myself or had to wait because there wasn't a host/hostess in front. After a couple of minutes, a woman came from behind the bar to seat me right by the window. I did notice that the floor under my table wasn't swept which was odd being it was rather slow. She handed me the menu, and since I had perused it before I arrived, I told her I was ready to order. She did serve me water, but it was room temperature so I asked for some ice to go with it. Another guy came out from the back to look between both jugs at the serving station to determine which one had ice to serve me. I thought it was rather funny that she didn't ask if I wanted ice before she served me water. I ended up ordering the chili chicken and palak paneer. They served me the chili chicken first, and brought out the palak paneer almost 25 minutes later. The chili chicken was very savory and spicy, but you could avoid the spice by not eating the jalepeno pepper. When they finally brought out my rice, I'd say the chili chicken on top of the rice could have been its own dish. The palak paneer was a generous serving although I wish they would have brought out more rice to go with it. It was pretty flavorful and I had enough to take home. I think this is a decent option for Indian food although I'm not sure I'd return. I'd say give it a try!
Good spot near the metro and away from all of the hubbub further down King St. with lots of street parking. I didn't realize it was in the hotel there! There's a bar and lots of seating. It wasn't very packed on a Thursday evening which is probably a good thing as it seemed like only one guy was serving, but he did a great job. The food was absolutely amazing. From the restaurant week menu, you can get an app, an entree which comes with rice and plain or garlic naan, and rice pudding for $35 which is such a steal. I got the lamb momos which were so tender and delicious and a very yummy chicken vindaloo which was spicy and a huge serving (I saved the rest for my lunch tomorrow). I wasn't a big fan of the rice pudding but that's just because I'm a little picky. Will absolutely be coming here again!
Once again eating here at the hotel and trying a few new things while sitting at the bar and being to interrogate the bartender on my upcoming choices. It quiet tonight First round, crispy kale chat. New to me. Fried kale with mint, spice yogurt, tamarind, and a mango relish with some pomegranate tossed in. It's really good. Then at the risk of being too spicy tried the Chili MoMo chicken which has just a little heat despite being indicated as spicy on the menu which their chilly chicken is spicy. Of note, one of their specialty drink is a 30 day oak barrel aged Manhattan. $18 for what frankly a two for one and it's good. Last course is garlic naan and butter chicken. Absolutely yummy. Super moist tender chicken thighs in a great sauce.
Stayed in Alexandria on King Street to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC. Although there was an 85% chance of rain, it didn't start until 8 pm. Uber prices were super high, so we crossed the street and stumbled upon this gem. We started with the pork belly appetizer. It was cooked to perfection and the orange glaze was a perfect dip. Next, we ordered the Chicken Biryani Bowl and it was tasty. I opted for the Fish Mandarin after seeing the pictures online. It was better than I expected. Everyone was taking a piece to try, that's how much meat it had and the mandarin sauce made this dish even more delectable. For dessert, we shared a Gulab Jamun. The perfect end to a rainy night. Overall, the service was really good. Even though we were the last ones in before closing, we received the royal treatment. We didn't feel rushed in any way. So glad this place was across our hotel. We definitely recommend it. Tip: Google shows you a picture of every menu item.
We were there on a Saturday evening for dinner. We made a reservation for 2 but seemed like one of their leaner nights. May not have needed it! Got seated quickly at a lovely window table (ask for it when you do the reservation and they obliged beautifully!). I had a Gin and Tonic and my partner a Mango Lassi! We had Vegetable Momos which were ok but a bit on the colder side. We had Palak Panneer, Vegetable Chow Mein and Garlic Naan. The Garlic Naan was very good. The Paneer and the Chow Mein dishes were not spicy at all. Overall great food, great service and we enjoyed it a lot! Would definitely be back again some time!
Service great! Pleasant, friendly, helpful. Made strong recommendations. The food was good. I was a little skeptical when I saw that I was attached to a hotel however the decor was bright and modern and classy. The tables were spread out so it was easy to converse. The noise level was pleasant and subtle. We enjoyed our appetizers of shrimp and gobi. I wished that they'd just been a little crispier however the flavors were lovely. Butter chicken. Delicious. Salmon tikka also great! We enjoyed our fried rice which was a nice treat too. Overall everything was lovely
This is the BEST Indian place in Old Town! We've lived here about 3 years and we just wish we'd tried it sooner. The food and service were amazing! It also has a really cool vibe on the inside. It's situated at the bottom of the Hyatt on King/Harvard. We ordered the samosa chat, pav bhaji, butter chicken, and CTM. Everything was so delicious. The samosa chaat comes with the tamarind and mint dressings already mixed in. Our server, Sam, was attentive and super kind! He offered us extra rice when we were a bit too enthusiastic with our curry portions. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more
My cousin and her husband met me in Old Town for lunch a couple Saturdays ago. Initially, we wanted to grab American brunch nearby, but the wait was over an hour, so we decided to go to Indochen. It's tucked inside of the hotel lobby, a bit odd, but the food was good. STEAMED CHICKEN MOMO (6) - 13 The chicken momos sat on top of a creamy chili garlic sauce that was a bit spicy. The momos were juicy and the filling was soft and flavorful. Good appetizer to share between the three of us. BUTTER CHICKEN - 19 Creamy and rich, tasted a bit sweeter than I was used to, almost like a chicken tikka masala. Pretty standard, but got the job done. Plenty of chicken in our curry. SAAG PANEER - 19 Vibrant green with the perfect loose, creamy texture that wasn't too chunky. Good amount of paneer in our portion. The spinach actually tasted like spinach, which I find rare at other restaurants that also serve saag/palak paneer. Definitely one of the better ones I've had! GARLIC NAAN - 4 Pretty typical, but good nonetheless. It was a bit greasy than I would have liked, but went well with the curries when we wanted to switch between bites of the basmati rice. Portions were pretty big and generous. Everything we ordered hit and all above average. The three of us were quite full after sharing an app + naan + two entrees. Stop by if you're in the area! read more

An unassuming and absolutely delightful Indian restaurant in a Hyatt lobby?? I was absolutely fooled for months before I stopped on in. The kale palak chaat was crispy, sweet, savory, with the extra pomegranate flavor bursts. The chili chicken was a balanced tangy and spicy. The pork belly was surprisingly crispy with far nicely rendered. Finally the daal makhani and garlic naan was a great comfort entree. Will definitely be back! read more
So I stopped in because another restaurant was closed nearby. I was hungry and their lunch bowl photo caught my eye. I walked into the hotel entrance so I had no idea it was part of the lobby of a hotel! It was a late lunch and there may have been ONE other person in there at the bar. I was glad I stopped in. I had a simple meal - the chicken curry bowl. It was fresh and flavorful with the right amount of spice! The servers were very attentive to both my beverage, my food and my comfort. The restaurant is a cute vibe. I could see it getting fairly busy at happy hour and/or dinner with the hotel and other travelers in the area. I will be back! read more

Google helped us pick this place. Initially we were iffy because it is inside a hotel - and their menu is pretty small but!!!!!! the manager is the reason we will go back to this place!!! Drinks were amazing! We ordered Amritsar fish, which we personally didn't like cuz we are used to a different type and were going to leave when the manager convinced us to stay and I am glad he did. Main entrees were delicious and like I said drinks were amazing too! Definitely recommend. read more
This spot was excellent. The chicken vindaloo and garlic naan were everything I wanted and more. Everything was amazing, we had a few apps, my favorite was the chicken chili momos. The crispy kale salad was so unique we loved it, kindly recommend by the hostess. The service was super friendly and attentive. The restaurant vibe overall was super clean and open. Will definitely return! read more
Food was outstanding! The four of us came on a Sunday night and didn't have any trouble getting seated. We ordered Butter Chicken ($19) Cantonese Chicken ($19) and Lamb Biryani for two ($36). Everyone really enjoyed their meals. The Biryani was off the charts flavorful....and certainly had a kick to it....and could easily feed 3-4. Service was very attentive and friendly. We loved this place and would highly recommend. read more

IndoChen in Old Town is our go-to for Indian Food in Old Town. We love everything ... butter chicken, curry, chat, samosas, tandoori chicken and lamb. The sautés vegetables are flavorful and a generous portion. Our waiter was Ross. He was an exceptional server. Helpful in selections from the menu, quick with our drink order, and kept the water glass full. We will be back! read more

Indochen is in the Hyatt centric but doesn't feel like it's a hotel restaurant at all. It's a large space with large windows, many tables and a good sized bar. Speaking of the bar, my fave espresso martinis are made here. I've even come by just for them alone. When I'm not hitting up the espresso martinis, the mango lassi is a good way to go. But the goodness doesn't stop there. The food is great. My choices aren't mind blowing but they're always delicious. Here's what I think about my standard order: The samosa is delicious, complemented by the sauces, and is large. The butter chicken is cooked perfectly with a flavorful sauce that you want to get every bit of, with naan or rice. I prefer naan - garlic naan, specifically. Since it was restaurant week, I got to try the rice pudding today. FYI, I wouldn't have ordered it otherwise, but it was part of the set meal. It was really good. The cardamom and coconut flavors were delish and the rice was soft. The only dish I wasn't super happy with during one of my visits was the kale chaat. The dumplings are also good, not great. Service is great though - very friendly, and drinks and food appear in an appropriate amount of time. I'll come back many more times in the future. read more
I had a wonderful time dining at IndoChen a few weeks ago! I had been to the location near the Van Dorn metro before, for takeout several years ago, but the new (ish) King Street location is excellent as well! I really enjoyed the butter chicken (it had a really great cashew sauce flavor, which complemented the dish well!) and also the crispy kale chaat (it was perfectly crispy and flavorful). Our table ordered the following: -Mango Drink -Signature House Aged Manhattan -Samosas -Butter Chicken -Crispy Kale Chaat -Garlic Naan -Lamb Vindaloo The service is great - they're very attentive. And I love the ambiance - it's modern and classy and attached to / located in the Hyatt Centric hotel. But it doesn't feel like most other hotel lobby restaurants, as it's cozy and seems to be a separate restaurant all on its own. I will certainly be back for more delicious food from here! read more

This is best Indian food around. We used to order out from the location in Cameron Station but it closed, so decided to check out the Old Town location. The vibe is a little weird inside because it's the lobby of a hotel, but it has a nice bar and the food is as good as ever. read more

Stopped by here for restaurant week in January and it was so good! I was able to find street parking pretty easily in the area. When we walked in, I liked the modern vibe they had at this location. For my meal, i ordered the Chicken dumplings, Butter Chicken, and the rice pudding. For restaurant week, i thought it was a really good deal for the price to get an appetizer, main course, and dessert. I enjoyed all of the dishes. Indochen is my favorite place to order butter chicken. Anytime i stop by one of their locations, I will always order the Butter Chicken. read more

A surprising Indian - Chinese restaurant in a hotel? Yes!!! Beautifully appointed with good service, we were exceedingly pleased with our dinner and surroundings. We started with cocktails and ordered the pork dumplings as an appetizer. My passion fruit mojito had some much fresh mint - very refreshing. The dumplings were tender and succulent. For entrees, I had the butter chicken and my husband had the lamb vindaloo. Both dishes were amazing!!! The meats were so tender, and the curries had a great depth of flavor. Even the plates were gorgeous! The naan was fluffy and crisp in places - perfect for sopping up the sauces. My only complaint was the lack of spicy heat. I like my Indian food hot, which I really missed with this dinner. It was still a recommendable meal. read more
