This looked like the kind of hidden gem I had to try... so while I was in the neighborhood I stopped and ordered "Pork in garlic sauce" that was supposed to be spicy. I understand times are tough for everyone but this place is not cheap by most standards for a takeout place... so when my order came with more celery than pork in the container... I was sad and pissed off... especially because celery is the one thing I absolutely despise and will pick out of all my dishes. That dish should have been described as "Celery and Pork in garlic sauce" and I would have never ordered it. This is one of the better fast food Americanized Chinese take-out only places. You can order online or call direct. Food is always consistently made. Portions are consistent and jam packed into the containers. I like spicy food and no matter how much I ask, it's never spicy enough. I just add my own chili oil at home. read more

Ordered here a couple more times since the last review and they keep getting our online orders wrong. We ordered a Lo Mein dish and when we got home, opened it to see it was a Fried Rice instead. We overlooked this since it only happened once at that time. We went there again today and ordered our regular Beef Chow Fun and got home to find out it was Beef Lo Mein instead. The only reason we even went there was for the chow fun. Extremely disappointing that this keeps happening especially since the chow fun is more expensive. That is such a cheap move to do to loyal customers who drive 25+ minutes each way to come here and order over $30 of food each visit. This happened too many times to just be a coincidence. We were craving for some Americanized Chinese fare, and we had read that this place serves up some good chow fun - so, we placed an order in-person and ordered the following: +Crab Rangoon - these were more flat and didn't have much filling, but it was still a good app to start off with; the sweet & sour dipping sauce wasn't overly sweet, either, which was great +Beef Chow Fun - this was pretty tasty; the noodles were slightly overcooked, but the flavors were spot on, and it was of a generous portion; definitely not as salty, which we appreciated, but you can doctor it up with some soy sauce and chili oil +General Tso's Shrimp - the shrimp was large, and you can request this to be extra spicy; however, there was no kick +Szechuan Crispy Beef - these were on the overly sweet side, as the sauce is definitely that; however, the beef itself was crispy, and you can request this to be extra spicy which may give a very slight kick to it The rice that comes with the entrees were forgettable; they were kind of clumpy and mushy, and seemed kind of discolored. Note that this place is strictly a carry-out, so you'll have to call ahead and place orders or place orders in person; the place is definitely popular, as the phone continued to ring, and there were patrons coming in often for a pickup. I have been on the hunt for decent Chinese food in my new hood, so had to check it out after looking at the decent reviews. It is a very unassuming place. No seats, just pick up and go. The staff were friendly and efficient. I got twice cooked pork, chicken fried rice and fried chicken dumplings to go. Order was ready on time if a little early. The twice cooked pork was good and had a surprising amount of heat (zing) - in a good way. The dumplings were decent. A little too doughy for my taste, but filling was flavorful. The fried rice was probably my least favorite. They did stuff A LOT of fried rice in the container, so there is that. It was greasier than I like and the rice seemed little underdone. Overall decent, not great. I will probably go back again and try a few others things to see if I find a keeper and see if the fried rice was a one time oops or if that is the way it always comes. read more

Tried so many Chinese carry-outs, Good Luck is the best Chinese food in the DMV me...not greasy or too salty...have never been disappointed

Here's the good... 1 of 3 mains was inadvertantly left out of previous order... 30-40 minutes later, before I was going to call them, there was a knock at my door and someone from the restaurant delivered it. That was greatly appreciated and an example of excellent customer service. They realized their mistake and took responsibility instead of waiting to see if I would call. Good on them, and that is why I wish this place to do well. The less than stellar is that the food has gone down hill recently -one of their cooks is terrible. 4 star dishes... Beef Szechuan Style was good but needed a bit more beef -was celery heavy. General Tso's Chicken good/solid and plenty of chicken 3 stars Meat Dumplings -would suggest skipping Chicken with Corn Soup was not delivered and instead was sent typical egg drop soup (no chicken or corn pieces in it) but is OK, slighly salty Moo Shu Vegetable ingredients were decent quality and pancakes thick and large but dish could have been more flavorful. 2 stars Curry Beef was insanely oily... but at least tasted OK otherwise. I had to pour off all the oil floating on top -truly gross and worthy of canning the chef who made it. The meat was passable but not high quality... would be 3/4 but I give it a 2 for copious amounts of oil and use of commercial frozen peas/carrots. Vegetable Egg Foo Young was large portion but attrocious and had literally zero seasoning... just garbage made... as if they just threw in whatever veg was around in quantities that didn't make sense / ingredients were not balanced -give it 1 star; however, on the side was a delicous but over salted brown gravy. Again, I wish them well and could easily overlook the mixup with left out order and wrong order of soup but not seasoning food with even a smidge of salt? How can you make an egg foo young pancake with zero salt, pepper or literally any other spices and just rely on pouring brown gravy on top? Based on last two orders, I give this place a 2 for taste with an extra star for good customer service. I cannot recommend at this time, but if they figure out which chef is messing up the food and replace that person... maybe they will be worthy of trying again in the future. read more

I posted this a year or two ago, but my post has scrolled way way down now, and I want to make sure that people know, as others have also posted here, that their credit cards might be in jeopardy when patronizing this restaurant. My husband and I liked the food well enough, but every time we ordered online, our credit cards were compromised. I say cards, plural, because we had to replace our card several times, and it was always after we had ordered from Good Luck Chinese! (The first time this happened, someone tried to use our card to buy weapons in Texas!) It's possible that some third party is hacking into the restaurant's system and that the problem isn't with the restaurant itself, BUT there is no way to know that for sure. I decided to give this Chinese restaurant a chance since so many Yelpers raves about their food. The woman who took my order was straight to the point, she confirmed the number of orders before repeating my order back to me. They were extremely busy (even on a Saturday morning at 11:30 am). She told me my order would take 10-15 mins. So I decided to sit and wait in my car. I went inside to check on my order and it was ready! I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food but I will admit the food was tasty. It's not the best I've ever had but very good and clean. What I mean by clean- the food wasn't super greasy (the general tso had some grease in the container but not too bad). I will definitely go back again in the near future read more

The dumplings themselves were pretty much the same as grocery store frozen dumplings. The kung pao chicken was too sweet, and absolutely not spicy at all, and I asked for it to be extra spicy. There were sliced chestnuts and celery in the kung pao chicken, just FYI, see pic. The ladies are very nice there and the portion size is decent. Beef with broccoli combo was a little light on the beef, ok fried rice (nothing in the rice, just seasoned fried rice). Dumplings were a little small, but I believe there were 10 in the order. Dumpling sauce was good and I like the slightly thicker dumpling skins they used. Roast pork appetizer was a little small and had a lot of scallions. I can't believe I've never written a review for this place. I get my Chinese food from here often and have been consistently pleased. Honestly, what keeps me coming back is how the staff is respectful and kind to everyone who comes in the door. That means a lot to me. This is a takeout restaurant so you won't be able to sit and eat. This restaurant was like this even before Covid. The place is small but makes great food. My new favorite and go-to Chinese restaurant for delivery! I had to ditch my previous favorite due to a seriously bad health inspection, and was sad about that, but happy now that I've found this place! The portions were extremely generous for the price, it was delivered quickly by the restaurant itself, and they even sent me a text to let me know my order was outside. I see some reviews saying the veggie:meat ratio is too high, and, while it is higher than some Chinese restaurants, I like that! It's probably an even 50:50 mix I'd say, whereas most Chinese restaurants only serve meat and maybe one or two tiny pieces of veggie. Good Luck's veggies are delicious, and, for me, someone who likes both veggies and meat, I think they're perfectly balanced. Everything tasted very fresh too! The Szechuan sauce could have been a little spicier to my liking, but that's probably my fault for not specifying in the comments that I like fairly spicy. Also, I ordered what I thought was going to be just a side dish of Szechuan broccoli with my main (Szechuan chicken), but it ended up being a full entre-sized broccoli, complete with its own rice! Here's the good: I see why Good Luck is so highly rated among Chinese carryout restaurants. Compared to most options, this hole-in-the-wall tucked away in a small and busy parking lot next to 7/11 cooks up standard takeout dishes avoiding most of the sins and shortcuts you will befall elsewhere. Ordered takeout online late one Saturday, then made the drive out to pick up our order that was ready well-within the 25 minute window the website gave us. The restaurant is microscopic, virtually a counter with COVID precautions in the form of a transparent curtain between you and the staff. Our chicken and broccoli tasted fresh and thoroughly cooked, with a sauce that was flavorful without being too strong or goopy as you might run into elsewhere. The fried rice was plenty moist, adorned with the standard fare of peas and carrots and eggs. But those dishes were also nothing special. And when it came to the appetizers, well we could have done better... the chicken wings were plenty decent, though they are seasoned more like KFC than what you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant. The crab rangoon came out on the tough side, each pocket filled with only a smattering of filling that tasted only faintly of cream cheese and crab. It's certainly possible we may order again from Good Luck. But compared some of the other highly-rated Chinese takeout restaurants at your disposal, I can't offer a compelling reason either for or against picking this specific one. read more
