String Bean with Peanuts and Tofu (ordered mild) - exceptional! This will be on regular rotation now.
Kayla H.

We still consider this our go-to because it's in the neighborhood, but quality can be a little hit-and-miss. Some dishes are straightforwardly not good while others are bordering on excellent. As a household of vegetarians, we love that nearly all dishes can be made with tofu instead of meat. My only strong advisory - avoid the crab rangoon if you're expecting the cream cheese and cake crab ones common in most Chinese carryout places. These are super crispy with almost no filling.

501. Kung Pao Chicken Large
Dawn M.

The service is great and the workers are all nice BUT I have spent $19 on something I don't even want to eat. The chicken tastes gamey which I can't get past. Maybe not chicken or maybe pasta it's prime? Normally kung pao has some veggies and there was one piece of onion which I ate. The sauce is good and the nuts are good but there's so much chicken that's gross. I have tried many dishes here and they are all hit or miss and not consistent. I love chinese food and I live close by so this disappoints me. The recipes aren't even right. So $19 on a small pint of white rice for dinner.

Spicy Tangy Dumplings Szechuan Style

This has been our go to place for years. This afternoon was a bit disappointing but, I believe that is due to my forgetting that the General Tso's hadn't ever been that spicy at this location. Not a bad thing, however, the spicy is what I personally crave. I will say, this was our first time ordering online. The owner called me because my address was a 20 min drive away and she wanted to make sure I didn't place an order at the wrong place. I appreciated the care she put into her customers to actually ask that question. That alone would give this place 5 stars every time This afternoon we tried a number of new dishes in preparation for this review: Lobster lo mein: strong seafood scent and flavor. Wasn't terrible, but would fill a seafood craving: 7/10 Spicy Tangy Dumplings Szechuan Style: just dumplings hanging out in chili oil. Never spicy enough, flavor was good though: 8/10 Pork with Garlic Sauce: garlic...bout it. 6/10 Pork Peking Style: the main reason I took pictures, Google made it seem like the crispy skin was a factor. This is absolutely not the case. Flavor was fine, my own expectations got in the way so I'll give it 6/10

Picking up my order

When I'm in the Hollin Hall neighborhood and I feel the need for Chinese food this is one of my go to places. Excellent egg rolls and every order I've had is tasty. I like their General Tso chicken. Good prices and good food.

Unfortunately have had a bad experience.Have been going here for years. Ordered a usual and a new one. Spring Rolls were underdone and mushy. Ordered the Seafood Combination Soup for two. 25% was Tofu and struggled to find the seafood. Didn't even get a hello when walked in. and don't know if will go back. What a shame.

Strong local Chinese! We use it for Sunday dinner most weekends. The Soup is strong. It won't knock your socks off but it is quality.

We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +Crab Rangoon - triangular-shaped, generously filled with the cream cheese/crab mixture; could have been a bit more crispy, as it was slightly chewy; the sweet & sour dipping sauce was a great complement +Chow Fun - we opted for the beef as a protein; the noodles were extremely wide, which was great; you can kick it up with chili oil and soy sauce; beef were plentiful +Mongolian Beef - lots of onions and scallions, this had a good flavor; you can add more of a saltiness to it with soy sauce This is definitely a family-run and -operated eatery, as the youngest son was taking orders and manning the register; all orders were made-to-order, so what you will be receiving will be super fresh! The owners were very kind, friendly, and attentive! There were a couple of tables inside, so we chose to dine in. Everything tasted fresh, not at all salty, and prepared with care and love. I'd love to try out their lunch specials and other chef specialty entrees on the next visit. Food consistently tastes fresh, which means their inventory management must be pretty good. We've eaten at nearly every asian restaurant in the area because we're pretty picky and if we want consistently good American Chinese food where we'd actually finish the leftovers, we always come here. We only wished sometimes they'd offer real Chinese dishes and a smaller portion for smaller price (so we can order more dishes) but that might be adventurous, though I feel for this area the palate would allow it. Also, as a security person I want to comment on the website/credit card compromise several old reviews mention: This type of scam is happening to other restaurants in the area (such as Momo's) and I would recommend against ever ordering online through websites (for pickup or delivery). UberEats and GrubHub takes a painful bite out of profits for small restaurants, but BeyondMenu doesn't take as much of a cut and the restaurant gets to use their own delivery drivers. I support them this way. I recommend the restaurant consolidate their orders in a safe way that discourages online ordering through their website to avoid this issue. Finally, phone orders are probably still a good way to do business, but I recommend pickup and to pay with tap or smart chip, not slide. I really think they deserve more stars than they have.

The space is airy, filled with light and felt modern and beautifully designed. Decided to do the Endless Table Essentials Tier ($44/guest) with some drinks (+$1 each). I felt like the food in this tier was pretty good value - highlights were the xiao chi platter, the char siu specials (perfect char), pork wuharou, and little pot mixian noodle. The food came out a little bit slow despite the restaurant not being full, which contributed to us eating less than I expected to during the 90 min res. But, for AYCE the food quality definitely beat my expectations. Would skip the crispy garlic rice as it was pretty plain and the souffle pancake (honestly more sponge cake than souffle?). I've heard the Braised Beef Lu is good so I'd come back to try that next time. If you're looking for a modern asian brunch/lunch spot, definitely recommend checking out this restaurant!
