String Bean with Peanuts and Tofu (ordered mild) - exceptional! This will be on regular rotation now.
    Kayla H.

We still consider this our go-to because it's in the neighborhood, but quality can be a little hit-and-miss. Some dishes are straightforwardly not good while others are bordering on excellent. As a household of vegetarians, we love that nearly all dishes can be made with tofu instead of meat. My only strong advisory - avoid the crab rangoon if you're expecting the cream cheese and cake crab ones common in most Chinese carryout places. These are super crispy with almost no filling.

The service is great and the workers are all nice BUT I have spent $19 on something I don't even want to eat. The chicken tastes gamey which I can't get past. Maybe not chicken or maybe pasta it's prime? Normally kung pao has some veggies and there was one piece of onion which I ate. The sauce is good and the nuts are good but there's so much chicken that's gross. I have tried many dishes here and they are all hit or miss and not consistent. I love chinese food and I live close by so this disappoints me. The recipes aren't even right. So $19 on a small pint of white rice for dinner.

    Spicy Tangy Dumplings Szechuan Style

This has been our go to place for years. This afternoon was a bit disappointing but, I believe that is due to my forgetting that the General Tso's hadn't ever been that spicy at this location. Not a bad thing, however, the spicy is what I personally crave. I will say, this was our first time ordering online. The owner called me because my address was a 20 min drive away and she wanted to make sure I didn't place an order at the wrong place. I appreciated the care she put into her customers to actually ask that question. That alone would give this place 5 stars every time This afternoon we tried a number of new dishes in preparation for this review: Lobster lo mein: strong seafood scent and flavor. Wasn't terrible, but would fill a seafood craving: 7/10 Spicy Tangy Dumplings Szechuan Style: just dumplings hanging out in chili oil. Never spicy enough, flavor was good though: 8/10 Pork with Garlic Sauce: garlic...bout it. 6/10 Pork Peking Style: the main reason I took pictures, Google made it seem like the crispy skin was a factor. This is absolutely not the case. Flavor was fine, my own expectations got in the way so I'll give it 6/10

When I'm in the Hollin Hall neighborhood and I feel the need for Chinese food this is one of my go to places. Excellent egg rolls and every order I've had is tasty. I like their General Tso chicken. Good prices and good food.

Unfortunately have had a bad experience.Have been going here for years. Ordered a usual and a new one. Spring Rolls were underdone and mushy. Ordered the Seafood Combination Soup for two. 25% was Tofu and struggled to find the seafood. Didn't even get a hello when walked in. and don't know if will go back. What a shame.

Strong local Chinese! We use it for Sunday dinner most weekends. The Soup is strong. It won't knock your socks off but it is quality.

We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +Crab Rangoon - triangular-shaped, generously filled with the cream cheese/crab mixture; could have been a bit more crispy, as it was slightly chewy; the sweet & sour dipping sauce was a great complement +Chow Fun - we opted for the beef as a protein; the noodles were extremely wide, which was great; you can kick it up with chili oil and soy sauce; beef were plentiful +Mongolian Beef - lots of onions and scallions, this had a good flavor; you can add more of a saltiness to it with soy sauce This is definitely a family-run and -operated eatery, as the youngest son was taking orders and manning the register; all orders were made-to-order, so what you will be receiving will be super fresh! The owners were very kind, friendly, and attentive! There were a couple of tables inside, so we chose to dine in. Everything tasted fresh, not at all salty, and prepared with care and love. This is a family-run restaurant and it was great to see that they had their very young son manning the counter and the cash register in a totally professional way. The menu is straight-forward with the usual and expected dishes. One dish I did not expect to see, but did, were hush puppies! Everything we ordered for takeout was excellent. Portions are generous and inexpensive. Note: there are two tables in the restaurant if you prefer to dine in. We ordered egg drop soup, crispy pork wontons, Mongolian Chicken and Mongolian Beef. The egg drop soup was better than your typical egg drop soup, with a flavorful broth and silky but still hearty texture. The wontons were packed with pork and came with a tasty bright red dipping sauce that complimented the wontons nicely. The Mongolian Beef and Mongolian Chicken are the same dish, with the only difference being the meat. These dishes were very well prepared with just the right amount of onion, scallion and sauce. The beef had a delicious slightly smoky flavor and was cut into nicely shaped pieces. The Mongolian dishes automatically come with white rice. Speaking of the rice, it had a great texture and just the right amount of moisture. Take out orders may take up to a half hour for them to be prepared, but it is well worth the wait. We will be back.

STEAMED CHICKEN MOMO (6) - 13 The chicken momos sat on top of a creamy chili garlic sauce that was a bit spicy. The momos were juicy and the filling was soft and flavorful. Good appetizer to share between the three of us. BUTTER CHICKEN - 19 Creamy and rich, tasted a bit sweeter than I was used to, almost like a chicken tikka masala. Pretty standard, but got the job done. Plenty of chicken in our curry. SAAG PANEER - 19 Vibrant green with the perfect loose, creamy texture that wasn't too chunky. Good amount of paneer in our portion. The spinach actually tasted like spinach, which I find rare at other restaurants that also serve saag/palak paneer. Definitely one of the better ones I've had! GARLIC NAAN - 4 Pretty typical, but good nonetheless. It was a bit greasy than I would have liked, but went well with the curries when we wanted to switch between bites of the basmati rice. Portions were pretty big and generous. Everything we ordered hit and all above average. The three of us were quite full after sharing an app + naan + two entrees. Stop by if you're in the area!

Always appreciate the minimalist yet still eloquently-decorated aesthetic of the restaurants, complete with a window to view the kitchen, which itself seemed relatively clean and well-kempt. Ordered the Woodear Mushroom and Mint Salad, and the Mogu Shiitake Mixian Ramen. The mushrooms were light and chewy, yet savory with citric and garlicky elements, and overall very refreshing. The ramen was solid in most respects, with a decent variety of vegetables and multiple proteins, including tofu, shiitakes, soybeans and marinated egg (which I enjoyed despite typically not liking hard-boiled egg too much). The noodles were a little bland, however, and didn't taste like they absorbed much of the broth. Overall, I'd say 4.5 stars are more accurate; YbP Noodle House is a regular haunt for me because the quality is there in most respects.

The restaurant had a back section that looked like it could be used as a separate party room and more booths and table in the front. Our server was good. He checked in with us frequently and made sure to keep us informed on our food status after taking our order. I would say if you get this, you should eat it first/soonest since i enjoyed it more at first bite while it was hot. The walnut shrimp was good, the shrimps were the smaller ones that were an easy way to snack. The braised pork belly was so tender. It reminded me of char siu, flavor wise, as long as you're ok with the pork belly (aka fatty pieces). Beef chow fun was good.
