This was my first time ordering from Hunan Manor in Fort Washington, MD. I purchased Gen. Toi chicken, wonton soup, scallion patties, pork fried rice, fried dumplings, and shrimp egg rolls. To my surprise, everything was delicious. The portions were large for the prices. Gen. Toi was well seasoned and slightly crunchy like I like it. It's sauce was genuine. It gets an "E" for excellent! The soup gets an "E" too. They used a chicken stock, not broth. Cooks know the difference and I am a cook. The dumplings were fried well, brown on one side and the pork filling was delicious. The pork fried frice was delicious. The rice was properly cooked with onions, bean sprouts, and fried egg. They made it the original way, no short cuts. The scallion patties were new to me. It was a little greasy and could have used a little seasoning. I heated them in the microwave on a paper towel and seasoned them with a little salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder. A solid workhorse of a Chinese take-out restaurant. We've ordered from Hunan Manor multiple times. While the menu is expansive, many of the dishes are very similar, i.e. they have the same brown sauce as a component. Nonetheless, all the dishes we have tried are good. I'm partial to the wonton soup. I also like the moo-shi pork (though they would be even better if they heated the moo-shi pancakes before putting them in the foil). We ordered for home delivery, and the food was delivered in a timely manner as promised. Honestly, it was delicious. HOWEVER - the delivery driver indicated that there was a problem with my credit card and could he please verify the full information? Me, being overly trusting, gave it to him even though I thought it was very weird since I could already see the charge pending on my bank website. Sure enough - not 24 hours later there are 17 fraudulent attempts to use my credit card, all of which were manually entered (no card present). Absolutely unbelievable. We still consider this our go-to because it's in the neighborhood, but quality can be a little hit-and-miss. Some dishes are straightforwardly not good while others are bordering on excellent. As a household of vegetarians, we love that nearly all dishes can be made with tofu instead of meat. My only strong advisory - avoid the crab rangoon if you're expecting the cream cheese and cake crab ones common in most Chinese carryout places. The service is great and the workers are all nice BUT I have spent $19 on something I don't even want to eat. The chicken tastes gamey which I can't get past. Maybe not chicken or maybe pasta it's prime? Normally kung pao has some veggies and there was one piece of onion which I ate. The sauce is good and the nuts are good but there's so much chicken that's gross. I have tried many dishes here and they are all hit or miss and not consistent. This has been our go to place for years. This afternoon was a bit disappointing but, I believe that is due to my forgetting that the General Tso's hadn't ever been that spicy at this location. Not a bad thing, however, the spicy is what I personally crave. I will say, this was our first time ordering online. The owner called me because my address was a 20 min drive away and she wanted to make sure I didn't place an order at the wrong place. I appreciated the care she put into her customers to actually ask that question. That alone would give this place 5 stars every time This afternoon we tried a number of new dishes in preparation for this review: Lobster lo mein: strong seafood scent and flavor. Wasn't terrible, but would fill a seafood craving: 7/10 Spicy Tangy Dumplings Szechuan Style: just dumplings hanging out in chili oil. Never spicy enough, flavor was good though: 8/10 Pork with Garlic Sauce: garlic...bout it. 6/10 Pork Peking Style: the main reason I took pictures, Google made it seem like the crispy skin was a factor. Ordered a kung pao beef lunch platter, and it was $10 wasted. I found about 5 or 6 thin slices of beef in a pound of water-chestnuts with a few peanuts sprinkled in to the super-salty glutinous sauce. Seriously, who eats water-chestnuts? The fried rice was just rice colored brown with soy sauce - no scrambled egg, no peas, no carrots or any other vegetables mixed in like fried rice is supposed to be. They put the cheapest crap in the meal and tried to pass it off as legit. Go to Chin's Kitchen or Shanghai Peking instead. I recently read somewhere that the best Chinese food restaurants all have 3.5 stars on yelp, which looks to be the case here as of June '24. Having grown up in the area, my family would get Hunan Manor since I was in high school. Now in my 40s and living on the other side of the country, I make it a point to order something whenever I'm back in town. Hunan Manor is really that special. So, for me, this joint is hit or miss. I've ordered their chicken Sichuan and been quite pleased, only to order it again and find that it was an entirely different dish. In fact, the second time around, it was so loaded with carrots that I could get only manage a few bites before I had to throw it out. There was something strange about the taste this time, almost chemical. Hunan Manor is the one Chinese take out place in the area, and it's a guilty pleasure. I have been to the Hunan province and can definitively say that this is not authentic Hunan cuisine, and I don't care. A friend recently told me this place was worse than Panda Express, which is grounds to sue for libel. Hunan Manor has been going strong for the last two decades at least. I wish they still offered coupons in the local paper, but it just shows how their business is thriving. You can call ahead, and pick up within 15 minutes, great to stop and pick up food on the way home. They also have a very low-price lunch special (on a white board to the left when ordering) On to the food, I would describe it as Americanized Chinese food. It has Gen. Tso's Chicken on the menu as a Chef's Special. They know their local audience and cook to the target palate. Dishes that bring out memories from my teens include lo mein (chicken preferentially over beef), beef with broccoli, Sesame Chicken (really just Gen Tso's chicken with sesame seeds on it), Moo Shi Pork, and Kung Pao String Beans as a vegetarian dish, and Spicy Tangy Dumplings Szechuan style as an appetizer. All entrees (except noodles and lo mein) come with a box of steamed rice or plain fried rice, and of course the meal ends with a Fortune Cookie. read more

Food was good enough but they are not good with their online ordering system so beware. I ordered delivery online one day. Received the food, it was fine--I liked their general tsos chicken, everything else was fine. The next day I get a call while I'm out from a delivery person trying to deliver the same exact meal I had ordered the day prior. They would not reverse the charge. Tried to do it through the credit card company and it showed back up later. I had no interest in giving a $52 tip on my previous meal, nor was a looking to sponsor an employee's dinner. read more

I have been a customer of Hunan Manor for almost 20yrs. The owner Irene is absolutely one of the sweetest people I have had the pleasure to meet. When we call in our order or stop in to place an order Irene always remembers us and makes us feel so welcomed. The food is some of the best Chinese you will find in northern Virginia. The quality of the meat and vegetables is second to none. My absolute favorite is the Peking Duck and the General Tso's. 3.5 stars, as it's above average for what it is - for the price, quality of food and service, and speed of delivery this place should be considered a hidden gem. The kitchen and waiting area are clean and well organized. Service is prompt and staff is efficiently friendly. This place is a take out only, but has several chairs for waiting. They have an extensive menu, so if you're looking for something that is Chinese-ish, it's likely here. The breaded chicken dishes (such as sweet and sour) have a medium amount of breading, and the chicken seemed to be all white meat. Most dishes were a little on the small side, but given that each dish and sauce have distinctly flavors compared to most other Chinese take out places, I'll take it. It doesn't all taste sweet, or spicy, or savory - each dish tastes like its own dish. As of 12/2015 minimum take out order is $11, minimum credit card purchase is $8 - FYI. read more

Found this location by searching Yelp for a spot meaty my location. I was expecting good quality food after reading the reviews. NOPE!!! Everything was extrra greasy and tasted odd. I didn't even eat a fourth of my food and my teenage son as well. That's saying a lot since teenagers devour food. This place is 100% a takeout joint because there are no dining tables. Considering that this seemed to be an upper-middle class kind of neighborhood, menu prices were quite reasonable.
