I have been to a lot of bad Chinese take out in nova and dc, this is easily top 3. The egg roll with the combination is enjoyable with a lighter wrapper and shrimp in mine. The thing I like about this place is the texture of the brown sauce. It's not watery nor is it too thick (heavy cornstarch). The chicken with garlic sauce had the balance of sweet and spicy. Broccoli was not over cooked, and the chicken was not dry nor chewy. The pepper steak on the other hand, there were more onion than pepper and steak combine. This no-frills, hole-in-the-wall restaurant serves my favorite Chinese food in the area. It is the most authentic Chinese food I have found in the States since my three month internship in China. If you can look past the worn exterior, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Today, I had food delivered for a $1.50 fee (not bad at all). The food arrived rather quickly, piping hot, and tasted fantastic. I ordered the pork lo mein, which was flavorful and not overly oily. The container was packed so full that the top could barely stay closed... I will be eating lo mein for days! I also ordered the fried pork jiaozi (dumplings), which were ginormous, meaty, and tasted great! They reminded me of the hundreds of jiaozi dumplings I shamelessly consumed while in China. My only complaint is that these could have been fried longer as the dumplings seem to have been boiled first and only lightly pan fried on one side, so they weren't crispy like they're supposed to be. All in all, I still love this place for their fast, friendly service, good prices, tasty food, generous portions, and convenient online ordering system. One of these days I will try to NOT order the lo mein, so that I can try their other dishes. read more

Sesame chicken: it was okay, it wasn't as hot as I would've liked it to be, but the chicken pieces were yummy. The sauce however was sweet as expected but it kinda tasted a little like ketchup was added. The white rice was the star in this, I never eat my white rice at any Chinese restaurant bc it's always subpar, but the white rice that came w this...delicious!!! Lol I just poured soy sauce on top of the rice and ate the chicken w it. I'm literally contemplating going back to ask what brand rice they use and buying a side rice by itself lol I remember getting c fried rice from here when I was like 7 and it was delicious, and another time when I was like 12 and it was spoiled so, it's been kind of hit or miss from my experience but when it hits, it's absolutely delicious. I've gotten orange c from here countless amounts of times and it was my fave back then, always super hot, fresh and delicious and loved it, this was my first time getting sesame c from here. This is my go-to Chinese restaurant for your typical Chinese food choices. They do deliver with a minimum purchase (I think $15) as long as you live within the mile radius, and they do have a lunch menu which comes in a single serving with a side of rice and your choice of canned soda. For their dinner menu, they do have small and large sizes which are at pretty decent price. This specific restaurant is a to-go establishment. There are no tables and the parking is kinda wonky. It has a very hole in wall look to it, but the food is good and you can probably find something that you like on their menu at a good price. read more

The chinese food here is better than in most chinese places in the area (for me at least). I have ordered their orange chicken (3/5), sweet and sour chicken (4/5), moo goo gain chicken (I didn't like this dish), and most recently I have been getting the garlic chicken, which I like the best. For all of these dishes I always order the sauce on the side. I like to be able to manage how much sauce I want in my food, most chinese food places add too much sauce in their dishes and I don't like that because then your meal is floating in it. I like to have the power to decide how much sauce flavor I want in my food! Plus the limited amount of sauce affects the flavor in the dish-- for better. My husband always orders the same thing, crispy beef, so I guess he is happy with it. I like it too but sometimes it has been dry. The last couple of times it has been better so I wonder if they got a new cook or if he decided to be more consistent with his cooking. Oh, we always get vegetable rolls (2.5/5) and the "crabmeat" rangooes, it comes with 6 of them. I really like their rangooes but I never had them before until I tried them here so I can't compare it with other rangooes. Also, we have never asked for delivery, so I can't comment on it. However, they have always been really quick with our order. We ordered it on the phone and by the time we get there to pick it up (~15mins) it is packed and ready to go. I always ask for extra fortune cookies and the lady has never said anything mean about it. I recommend picking your food up if you're able to. I agree with other people that their customer's skills aren't exceptionally good but we have never had a problem with the service either. The clerk doesn't have a very warm or welcoming personality but to be fair I haven't been to many chinese restaurants where I have felt welcomed either. Most of the time I feel they are kicking me out as soon as they see me putting my fork down (as in done eating). This is the closest to a hood DC carryout with proper mumbo sauce without going across the patomac. I highly recommend the orange chicken, general tso, sweet and sour, crispy shredded chicken and sesame chicken as far as Chinese food. For American food get the white fish, wings with fries or rice, steak and cheese. They are a staple for any one craving takeout and the staff is nice. read more

Stopped in last night (9/10). I have never visited before but found the "OK" reviews. I was pleasantly greeted by a smiling Asian woman. I ordered the General Tso and an Chicken Egg Foo Young. I had about a 25 minute drive to get home and when I did, the food has still moderately warm and very tasty. Like many other Chinese Food Carryouts it is a "whole in the wall" and would get 5 stars if they made the place more attractive. If I wasn't clear, the food was great and so was the service! Honestly this is a heartbreaking review for me, because I really liked this place. But after my last time, never again. I go in and place an order. Head next door to 7-11 and came back. As I was waiting, I felt a tickling on my leg. I look down and there is a small roach crawling up my leg. I flick it off and immediately tell the cashier. The search for the roach was rather bizarre. It went under the Dippin' Dots machine, but rather than looking under that, she looks IN the machine. After a few minutes of that, I asked for my money back. We'd been ordering from this place for many years. I'm not happy that now they do not deliver to my area because we are 2.3 miles from this establishment. It's ridiculous that they didn't round this up to 2.5 miles. Their prices had been great - delivery was fast - the flavor of the food varies. They've had management changes over the years and I can tell that this affects the taste of the food as well. Their chicken wings are consistent; some of the other dishes not-so-much. Hello, yummy inexpensive Chinese food! My husband has been a fan of this place forever. He's not the healthiest eater on the planet and I like to try to be a brown rice-steamed only kinda gal when we order takeout because it can be deceivingly bad for you. I love this place. If you go there, I'm pretty sure there is one tiny table. This is a takeout/delivery joint. They have a pretty decent delivery radius and they are super super quick! My husband always gets the kung pao chicken (extra, extra, extra spicy) and it's delish. I get the steamed chicken and broccoli and this is a legit healthy dish with the brown sauce on the side. The white rice is some of the best delivery rice I've had - there is some aromatic with their rice, like lemongrass or something it's yummy. We also get the dumplings - last time we ordered the fried and steamed. The fried is not deep fried, it's more like seared on a pan with a little oil on it. I prefer the fried over the steamed as the dumpling dough is a little on the thick side (and the frying corrects this a bit), but the filling is so good - it's a must-get. It is SUPER inexpensive too and we always have leftovers - I had two more meals out of 2 dishes and 2 orders of dumplings. read more

When I asked for chopsticks she was really unhappy and texting on her cellphone. Food: tastes like regular American Chinese take-outs. Nothing special. Fried rice is just white long grand non-sticky rice (cheapest rice you can buy) stir-fry with soy sauce. Worst ever. And it was $1.00 extra. I ordered pepper steak- the dish has too much onion with a little bit green bell pepper and a tasteless brown sauce. I can hardly find any piece of beef. The beef is paper thin and not a steak quality beef. It should just be called "Pepper & Onion with beef flavor". I tried the fried chicken too, but I really don't like it. It has too much oil and the chicken cooks really old. Hunan Bean Curd with mixed veggies is better, but it has too much MSG. Overall: I disagree with the reviewer who gave this place a 5-stars review. I've lived here for almost 10 years and tried most Chinese restaurants and takeouts if not all of them in the area. There are many better takeouts than this one. Seriously, it's really hard to make Chinese take-out food below average, but China Cafe managed to do just that. This is a forced one star review. 30 minute delivery on a Saturday night was the only thing that exceeded my expectations. This is yet another Chinese place in NOVA with somehow absurdly inflated reviews. The chicken broccoli was the most tasteless version I've ever had the misfortune of having. The food was swimming in this oily brown mystery sauce that had zero flavor. It wasn't even salty for crying out loud. The prices are absurdly high for the small and flavorless portions. I could've had a much better meal elsewhere for $12 (came with no sides!). Customer service over the phone was majorly lacking. I always make the mistake of getting optimistic about trying local Chinese takeout places out of nostalgia for my favorite NY/NJ spots but in the end, my conclusion continues to be the same every time: NOVA seems to be a lost cause. read more

Dependable and consistent delivery / take-out for the dozen or so times I've ordered from them over the past six years. Portions and flavors are great for my personal taste when it comes to Chinese food (not overly salty or soy-saucey). The location is not very appealing, but I've been able to look past it. I'd choose China Cafe way before Ping's foodwise. If I want crazy cocktails with a little something to eat on the side, then I'll go to Ping's.
