We went to Peter Chang's on Valentine's Day. The restaurant was decorated nicely and they had several specials going on. We ordered the Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, pan fried dumplings, combination pan fried noodles and Peking duck. The duck is the best duck in the area with delicious plum sauce to complement the flavor. Their old fashioned is infused with hickory smoke making it a delectable cocktail. This place has never disappointed and continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Herndon. read more

Extremely impressed by both the ambiance and quality of food. The Peking duck was on the same level as Beijing 烤鸭 I've had in China, and biting into the crispy skin was the best part. I would recommend a half duck for parties of four or less. The sweet and sour fried fish was a bit too sweet for my taste but had a nice crunch. The beef clay pot and tofu stew were both homey comfort dishes done quite well. Note that they do not offer complimentary rice with dishes unlike most Chinese restaurants. Great service and I love the tapas style so you can get multiple dishes. Perfect spicing here. Most dishes have some kick but nothing that overpowers other flavors like garlic. I had been to the other Peter Chang's location and was happy to hear they opened one locally. I was feeling lazy and decided to get the food delivered instead of eating at the restaurant. The first thing I noticed when I received my order was that the food was packed well. One of the items I ordered was soupy, and they covered it well so there was no spillage during transportation. The other thing I noticed was a handwritten note on the bag saying that we didn't order rice with our meal, and they gave us one for free. I thought that was very nice of them! Lastly, I thought the portions were a bit small for what you are paying for, which is why I knocked it down a star. Service-wise, they were definitely 5 stars. I enjoyed all the food I ordered, especially the fried eggplant and the Mongolian beef. The flounder had a unique flavor, and I enjoyed the mustard greens in it. I was really happy to hear that Peter Chang had opened up in Herndon after visiting so many of the other locations in Arlington, Richmond, and Maryland. The restaurant is much more modern designed and clean compared to the other locations. The staff is just as fast and friendly so I was really happy to experience the consistent service. The menu offered at the Herndon location felt like a smaller menu than some of the other locations so that was a little disappointing but food we were able to order was still pretty tasty. They didn't have the grandma noodles which is generous portion of noodles in a spicy sauce so we went with the Dan Dan noodles which was good and peanut based. The Mapo tofu was cooked well but could have been better with a little more meat. The absolute must have is the scallion pancake which everyone loves because it is fun to see and eat. Given the price of the fish and chili oil, the dish could have definitely used more fish and veggies as we most got broth and chili oil in our order. Overall good experience so I will definitely be back. It's worth a try if you are in the area. read more

Try it then tell me I'm wrong. I dare you. :) I had wanted to try this "new" (new to me as well as relative newcomer to the Herndon area) Peter Chang location. Have been keeping up with the Yelp reviews of this place as I every now and again contemplated coming here. Finally the other day, I was in the area, it was a little later than high-noon lunchtime (so presumably no crowds) and I was by myself AND I found online that they had a Lunch Specials Menu which meant not a major $ investment for me to try out this place. The Lunch Specials Menu is a combo Lunch & Happy Hour Menu - NOTE: ONLY SERVED M-TH FROM 11AM-5PM. See my pic of the Lunch & Happy Hour menu. The menu is NOT extensive and you will NOT find the typical meme-ish Sweet & Sour Chicken, General Tso's, Chicken Fried Rice lunch combo specials that your local mom & pop Chinese carryouts pump out for 6 bucks. Not here! And thank goodness! I couldn't decide between the Chinese Taco Trio $18 and the Szechuan Beef Noodle Soup $18 bc the "taco" (in a Chinese restaurant) threw me off until my server explained (sort of...) what it was. So I ended up ordering the Taco Trio and..... O M G !!!! MIND BLOWN. SOOOO GOOOD. Soooo creatively flavorful and sooooo delicious. And satisfying enough for a meal for one! (I also ordered a side of rice $1 - I know that sounds sacrilege lol but it worked for me and was a delicious accompaniment.) It was like a tasting flight of 3 different of their specialty "dishes," if you will: duck, beef and chicken - all served individually on a housemade pancake wrapper (like the pancake wrappers served with Peking Duck). Served with a side of delicious sauce that accompanied the "tacos" that I drizzled over all 3 of them - BRILLIANT! I cannot find this Chinese Taco Trio item on their regular menu. Only on their Lunch & Happy Hour menu FOR THE HERNDON LOCATION so ask for it if you can't find it. But definitely get it!!! Service was wonderful - from the hostess to my server - attentive, responsive and friendly - I never felt rushed one bit and hung out in a cozy banquette 2-top and savored my meal. A new restaurant in the Herndon area! A great place to take your family or go on a date. It has such an elegant atmosphere with high end Chinese decor. Plenty of seating but I would still try to reserve a table, if possible. My favorite dish was the eggplant. It says that it's spicy but it's really not that spicy. I stopped by Peter Chang for dinner with my family. The restaurant was clean and the staff were welcoming. We ordered family style, so I had a chance to try a variety of options (which was nice because many items on the menu looked good). My personal favorite was the "Signature Peking Duck". They had in the menu a couple of "twists" i hadn't seen before like the dry fried cauliflower (I am obsessed with dry fried eggplant) which we tried and enjoyed. The service at this location was very attentive but not at all intrusive. The ceilings are very high and the atmosphere is modern- it's a very pretty location. read more

I'm happy to come back in 30 days and do another review, I know they are just getting going here. Slow service, had to seek out person to pay, hate that. Most things in menu were not available, something about made them in morning and they were sold out. I was there for early 5:00 dinner. No Dim Sum Platter Boxes, main reason we were there. Ordered individual Dim Sum instead, received 2 out of 3, found out 3rd was sold out too. Shrimp ones lacked flavor and no color at all, looked like a baby beluga. Other one too spicy to eat, not sure which one. Best of luck and hope things improve for you. read more

This location just opened so please take my opinions with a grain of salt (or peppercorn :) they might make a come back. In general, service was chaotic, small plates were overpriced, food was all too sweet, and restaurant was too loud. Service was hectic. We made a reservation at 6:30 but there were no tables available. Had to wait 20min to be seated! The hostess was clearing tables, seating people, taking to-go orders, and handing out carry out orders. There were long periods of time the front desk was unmanned and a long line of people waiting, crowding around the front door. Food was overpriced. Small plates were $13 dollars, when I know at other Peter Chang locations you can get 3x the portion size for $2 more. Feels like a rip off. The Mongolian beef was very sad. It tasted steamed and very sweet. The Szechuan popcorn chicken was also sweet with no mala Szechuan flavor. The Bamboo fish was hot and crispy on the outside but inside, the fish was lukewarm (like it hadn't been thawed out completely). Will not be coming back. Rather go to Mama Chang or another Peter Chang restaurant that has the same food, better prices and experience. read more

Food was not great, really missed the mark. Hot and sour soup - excessive amount of white pepper Crispy beef - fried a bit too long, very hard/chewy. But Flavor was good. Garlic spicy eggplant-the amount of oil and grease and ginger. I have been here twice over the course of the last 2 weeks. Once for lunch and once for the AYCE Dim Sum and Chinese Tapas brunch. I am totally sold! The AYCE brunch is a steal, in my opinion. $32 for endless Dim Sum and Chinese Tapas. There's a 90 minute time limit, but that wasn't a problem. We were stuffed well before the 90 minutes was up. We tried many of the available items on the menu -- but there are just too many to sample! Standouts from the Dim Sum included Firecracker Salmon Spring Roll, Signature Pork Soup Dumplings, Szechuan Cold Noodle (Vegan), Spicy Dan Dan Noodle (Vegan), and Steamed BBQ Pork Bao. For the Tapas, best plates were Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, Hunan Twice Cooked Pork Belly, and Spicy Dry Fried Bamboo Fish. The Bamboo Fish was amazing. But the bite of the meal was easily dessert -- Black Sesame Egg Yolk Bao. They were incredible! Service was quick and efficient and the place has a modern-ish, minimalist feel. It is quite attractive. Needless to say, I will be back for brunch just as soon as possible. read more

My husband and I recently visited PC for Valentine's Day to see what the hype was about. The service was quick, and the setting was clean with appropriate decor. Upon being seated, our waitress reminded us of the 90-minute time limit for the all-you-can-eat dim sum. To ensure we stayed within that window, we ordered ten plates at a time. The portions are small--true to the "small plates" or tapas style--which allowed us to sample many different dishes. The experience felt like an elevated version of a food sampling or a wedding menu tasting. While we enjoyed several dishes, I would recommend avoiding the noodles. They were quite greasy and chewy, containing minced proteins that I couldn't identify even after looking through the dish. By the end of the 90 minutes, we were full and satisfied. While PC has clearly been affected by inflation and is a bit of a splurge at $100 for a lunch date, it was worth it for the occasion. We will likely return as a special treat, though not anytime soon. In the meantime, we still miss the generous portions and excellent noodles at our usual spot, China King, and continue to search for another spot. read more

Pretty good Chinese eatery overall amidst the endless DC suburbia of northern Virginia. It was the first place we tried during a week in Virginia for a soccer tournament. We've ordered from here several times and never had a bad dish. My favorites are the dry fried spicy chicken (wish they had a similar fish or shrimp dish -- would be fire!!) and the duck egg rolls. CORRECTION AFTER INITIAL REVIEW I had a very rough experience placing a takeout order from this place. I placed an order at 5:24 pm for a 6:00 pm pickup. I arrived at 6:06 pm to pick up my order and was hoping my food would be waiting for me as this was after the requested pick up time. My order was not ready and the staff at the front desk said "it will be ready in just a few minutes, please take a seat." I have been sitting at a bar table for over 20 minutes. I have had them ask me on 4 different occasions what my name is. They have checked bags for other orders, none of which were mine. I have watched about half a dozen other customers arrive and pick up their orders right away. Then they told me the kitchen "didn't see the ticket in the system and the food will take another 10 minutes." They eventually brought my order out, longer than 30 minutes after the requested 6:00 pm pick up time. To my surprise, they refunded me for the meal. This was very generous of them, however, the damage was done. My wife and daughter were at home patiently waiting for me to bring takeout food for them, so having to wait an additional 30 minutes is really rough. read more

The food here is very oily. I have tried several dishes, and many had oil pooling in the dish. Even dishes that should be healthy, like the Brussels sprouts. Tonight, I had to throw out my takeout because it was inedible. The kitchen needs to learn to control its heavy-handed use of oil. read more

Service was pretty good. Not what I usually expect from a Chinese restaurant but this is Peter Chang. Just like the location in MD, the interior and dining set is a bit fancier than what we normally get from other local restaurants that serve similar dishes. I enjoyed the selection of foods that we ordered. Our server recommended the spicy founder and it was a huge portion of spicy numbing peppers, thick glass noodles, lotus roots, radish, and soft flounder meat. I really liked this dish that is perfect for sharing family style. We also ordered the spicy wontons which we also liked but nothing too special. The kids enjoyed their pork soup dumplings and beef chow fun. The chow fun was also nothing too special but still good. The Napa cabbage with tofu skin dish wasn't out of this world but I loved it. I love tofu skin and cabbage and it's a great vegetable option if you like those. We plan to come back because we are fans of Peter Chang. One nice perk is not needing to drive to MD now that we have a location in VA. read more

When you don't celebrate a Christian holiday and everything's closed, where do you go? A Chinese restaurant, obviously. My husband and I snagged a noon reservation at the new Peter Chang in Herndon, and let me tell you, it was a feast. First impressions? Stunning! The decor was an absolute vibe--gorgeous colors, tile floors, and an ambiance that says, "Yes, you're about to have a memorable meal." We were greeted, seated, and immediately faced the tough question: how do we NOT order the entire menu? Spoiler alert: we basically did. The table? Packed. Like, "Is this a buffet for two?" packed. Top marks go to the cumin spicy lamb--so flavorful it made my taste buds do a happy dance. Close second was the Peking duck--juicy, crispy, and paired with hoisin sauce that could win awards. Third place? Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was dangerously addictive. But wait, there's more: Hunan twice-cooked pork belly, shrimp dumplings, pork soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and hot & sour soup with shredded duck. Yes, all that for two people because #HolidayGoals. I washed it down with a refreshing Asian mojito, and honestly, I'm ready to come back for round two. I have been back six times since my original review trying dine in, carry out, and delivery. This spot quickly became my new local favorite. Peter Chang's has worked through a lot of their recipe inconsistencies that they had to begin with. For example, the beef in my original review I mentioned having a lighter sauce has since consistently been a heavier darker sauce I think most people expect and prefer. Their staff is very friendly and polite, although it can be slower at times they are generally packed so I give them grace. The restaurant is beautiful but as mentioned it is very loud and the parking is tough, so I prefer to get delivery. A MUST TRY here is mamas basil eggplant. It is the one dish I have to get every visit, I'd eat it every day if I could. If I had one last meal I'd request this eggplant. I have never had eggplant made like this anywhere else, the bond flavor and unique glutinous coating is to die for. Tofu skin salad, and tofu skin rolls, fragrant beef, and their shrimp dumplings are other personal favorites. Peter Chang's does not hold back with flavor and the spice levels are perfect for my taste. I would highly recommend giving this spot a try! My one complaint I still have is that there is no soy sauce, chili oil, or vinegar given dine in or takeout without special request. If you serve dimsum items and they are ordered this should be standard. read more

Summary - this is a great restaurant, and the food is absolutely delicious. Details - My wife and I were tired after moving some of the last bits of our old house into our new house. When she got home, she suggested Chinese. I was all in, then said, "but where?". Yelp came in and saved the day! We'd heard from friends who had gone to Peter Chang in Bethesda that it was very good, and I was very surprised to see that there was one nearby us. The restaurant is located in a relatively new office building on Centerville road, and there is a series of new housing behind it. There are several bistros and a bakery in the same building. Parking isn't bad. The two of us were seated at a four top, and I proceeded to peruse the menu. Dim sum at this hour? And I could choose anything from the waitress rather than a cart? Interesting... We were two appetizers, including a shrimp cake dumpling, and a soup filled dumpling. The shrimp cake dumpling was very good, the super-filled dumpling was okay. I won't get the suit filled dumplings next time. For an entree we chose two tapas dishes, lamb and Mongolian Beef. The lamb was chosen at the suggestion of the waitress, and I was hesitant about doing it but went with my gut. Omg, that lamb was off the hook! And spicy! By comparison a Mongolian beef was tasty but nowhere near as good as that lamb! In addition to all that, we ordered half a duck. Tender, with crispy skin. The hoisan sauce was very good, and it was served with sliced cucumber and sliced leek. This was as good as what I get at Peking Gourmet in falls Church! Maybe better - the skin was crispy whereas at Peking Gourmet it's limp. Who would have thunk it? Conclusion - Don't walk, run! Run to Peter Chang's and have a great meal! read more

Delicious Chinese food and a nice variety of dim sum including wonderful Peking Duck eggrolls, steamed pork buns, shumai, Cristal shrimp dumplings. Authentic tea served in heavy metal pots. You can enjoy and all you can eat dim sum for a fixed price which was very reasonable considering all the dishes we tried, but we've also enjoyed other dishes there as well. Service is attentive without being hovering, and the ambience is nice without being pretentious. read more
