Food: Though the curry wasn't nearly as spicy as I anticipated the flavor was still great. The curry contains pieces of chicken and potatoes and includes a side of white rice.The flavor profile was rich and flavorful. My friend ordered the Pad Thai and he enjoyed it as well. Service: The staff was quite attentive and helpful, our server regularly checked in on us and refreshed our beverages. Great hospitality and awesome service! Ambiance: The interior was clean and there are indoor seating booths and tables. The servers were cleaning tables and tidying up the dining room throughout my visit which goes to show how well maintained this local establishment is. As a first timer, I opted to try dishes that were familiar to me BUT Manaow managed to make these familiar dishes... their own. Flavors were fresh, herbacious, robust, comforting, spicy, tangy, sour. YUM. Friendly servers were attentive and made sure all was good. Restaurant location is 6/10 due to small parking spaces but don't let parking deter you from coming here for fantastic food. I have been coming to Manaow religiously for at least 8 years. Unfortunately, I had my last visit there due to an unnecessary confrontation stemmed from honest feedback on a product that was below par in taste. I have ordered the Southern Style Curried Noodles for the past 8 years, at least two to three times a month I was having this plate because it's that good and filled with flavor. This last time around, the curry was just bland. Not the usual flavor I know and loved. Our server proceeds to ask us how everything went and I was honest and told her my plate was bland. I didn't ask for it to be removed from my check. Just answering a question with honesty. We got the check, I paid for it and proceeded to leave. Didn't make a fuss, was courteous, tipped my server and walked out. As I was leaving, the supervisor or manager (an Asian fellow in his 30's that's always there in the evenings and has been since I began going) comes up to me and my family (we're already in the parking lot walking towards our car) and proceeds to say the server shared our feedback with the back of the house. He let me know the kitchen tasted the batch and that the curry tasted as it should and that they weren't sure what I was talking about basically. My point is, in this day and age with these prices the consumer is paying, it is absolutely unacceptable for a business to confront the paying customer for giving their feedback on their product or service, especially when it's the business asking for the customers feedback and the product or service was not good. If you're not ready to hear honest feedback then just don't ask for it. But don't come up to me and confront me saying I'm wrong for my honest opinion, especially after the product and service was paid for. If the pot of curry wasn't stirred before serving my plate (possible explanation for the difference in taste this time around) or it was an hour before closing, then just take accountability of the possible scenarios that could have occurred and impacted my experience but confronting me about it and disregarding my opinion as if it's not what it was because you say so? I guess it's just the times we live in but I'm not here for it and could take my money and business elsewhere, especially in this marketplace with plenty of good Thai food options in Long Beach. 4.5stars The Thai food here is so much better than the ones in our area. 1) Crispy pork belly: our family's favorite of the dishes we tried. Crispy on the outside and tender/moist on the inside. It came with 2 sauces: a lemon sauce with a little fish sauce (predominantly lemon flavor) and a brown sauce (not sure what it was) 2) tamarind chicken wings: they're tasty (sweet and tangy but not too strong). The only thing is the drumstick end part of the wings were kind of dry from the frying The mango salad had a lemony fish sauce (this was more on the salty side than the crispy pork belly lemon sauce. I wasn't as much of a fan of the saltier taste, but my son liked it) 3) yellow curry - pretty good (a lot of sauce and not enough chicken would be the only complaint) 4) pad see ew: my kid liked it 5) pad kee mao: the flavor was good. I asked for the slice beef instead of the ground beef it comes with. It was a bit dry/hard to me (not as well marinated) 6) drink sampler: great idea; enjoyed the variety. My favorite was the honey limeade. My husband enjoyed the tamarind drink. The Thai tea was not as creamy (stronger tea taste) as the full size my kids got. My least favorite is the lemongrass flavor but my son liked it. I ordered the full glass of the limeade for a charge and my husband got the full glass of the tamarind for free as part of the sampler price. 7) mango sticky rice - it was ok (mango was a bit sour for me). Fantastic! Absolute favorite Thai restaurant! I grew up going to Thai classic and drove to the location in Long Beach and saw it was closed on Saturday morning. We found this hole on the wall and we struck gold! My boyfriend isn't a huge Thai food fanatic but Manaow made him convert! The young coconut is sweet and refreshing. My boyfriend ordered the lemonade and raved about it! I ordered the pad Thai with chicken but the winner was the pad see ew with beef. Absolutely mouth watering! We haven't been here much since we graduated from CSULB years ago -- so we were excited to be back. Unfortunately we had terrible service from a new waitress there, Paige T. She gave us our waters, but she sprayed Lysol in the direction of our table to clean the table right besides ours -- spraying quite close to the point where we saw some of the mist get in our waters. At least be mindful when you're spraying in the direction of your customers, especially if there's not much space in between tables -- But if you're not, not a big deal at all, especially if we can always ask for new waters and easily resolve the issue that way. But it's another thing to make us feel bad for asking for new waters. I was nervous to ask in a way to not come off rude, as asking for something like that can easily come off rude. So when my partner asked for us -- after the waiter gave us a weird look, I was relieved when he explained very tactfully, gently & politely why. After the waters were replaced, we were ready enjoy our first time back (and not let something so small ruin the night). However, since then, the waitress began rushing us, repeatedly asking "is that all" in a very passive-aggressive tone... didn't realize she was so pressed until 5-6 times in -- especially when she asked 2 separate times within less than 5 seconds with an annoyed & wide-eyed, fake smile that ruined our night. The food here is always top notch. You'll get Thai dishes that are not offered at other eateries. They have Northern Thai dishes and street food fare that you cannot get elsewhere in the city. Everything on the menu is great; you cannot go wrong with any choice. Service can be hit or miss depending on when you come but it's never horrible. For 2 of us, we ordered a crispy pork and Chinese kale dish, shrimp glass noodles, and yellow curry. They're located in between a laundromat and liquor store with adequate parking. The modern light fixtures and soft decor were pleasing to look at as I waited for my food. I ordered the beef khao soi, the broth was rich, a little sweet and tangy. The beef was super soft and the veggies, plus fried noodles added some great texture and flavor. It was my first time ordering this dish so, I didn't know what to expect. Their herb shrimp salad was the best I've ever had. Every bite was bursting with flavor, the veggies were fresh, fragrant and the grilled shrimp was cooked perfectly! This dish is dangerously mouthwatering, highly recommend getting it spicy. My Thai tea was perfect, ratio on point! I always have to get mango sticky rice if it's in season. Perfect ratio of sticky rice to sweet mango and the coconut sauce was sweet and a hint of salty, so yummy!!! The service was great. The manager was very attentive to his customers, I can tell he is personable and really cares about providing a good experience for the people who come in the restaurant. He made sure I got my dessert to go because I was on a time crunch and I overheard him being extremely helpful to another customer who was feelin indecisive. We ordered a drink flight, drunken noodles, pad Thai, and mango sticky rice. The drink flight is a good idea if you aren't sure which drink to get and want to sample them all. You ALSO get one full-sized drink of your choice which is great. I really enjoyed my drunken noods. I chose medium spicy and it was so freakin' spicy but very tasty. They have indoor seating only, which could roughly sit about 50 people. Recently came here with a reservation for a party of 7 and it was really good! The service was attentive and the interior of the place is super clean. Even when I called to make a reservation they were super polite and kind over the phone! They have two long tables in the middle, so this place is definitely great for large parties. Fried Tamarind Chicken Wings (Peek Gal Nam Makam) 9.5/10 - The flavor on these wings were soooo good, and the wings were so crispy. I wish they put the sauce on the side to dip as well for convenience when sharing with others. Also they were a little bit difficult to eat and cut when left whole which was our only ick, but they do give you a knife to really hack at the chicken wing. Pad Thai (9/10) - Super duper sauced up Pad Thai with great flavor, we really loved this one, but the noodles were a little too overcooked/mushy. However, I would still recommend getting this dish because not many other thai places have flavor like this. Drunken Noodles (9/10) - Also super good! Much better than other places we've had, and the noodles were super flavorful. Khao Soi (9/10) - Honestly I haven't had Khao Soi that many times so I can't compare it to others, but I thought it was a really delicious dish! Love the curry flavor and it was seasoned well. Other dishes we had: Pineapple Fried Rice (7/10) - The fried rice wasn't seasoned enough and lacked flavor :( It was still good but it didn't blow our minds away. However, the portion for this was larger compared to the noodle dishes. Tom Yum Soup (7/10) - Tasted really great but it was a little too sour and salty!
