My husband & I came here around 7pm on a Friday night and were seated after a 15min wait. We were very impressed with the grilled pork appetizer and the Kao Soi. We were unfortuntaely too full to share a mango with sticky rice. Service was so-so, the ladies were much more attentive than our male waiter who barely said 6 words to us. I really wanted to like this place. But to be honest, the space was just so cold it was so hard to enjoy the food. I got the papaya salad-- it came in a wooden bowl that was cute, but not very easy to eat out of. My boyfriend got the chicken pad Thai and he said it was good. The Thai iced tea looked fine too. Absolutely love coming here. We love the uniqueness of the menu the location everything, Except... The timing on getting the dishes out in an orderly timely manner. I've gone where we've been a party of two, one person gets their dish the other is waiting for 10 to 15 minutes. I've been where there's a large group of people and naturally it takes a long time. And I had it where I was waiting for 15 minutes to get my soup when everyone else at my table have the food delivered and it was eaten by the time I got my food I was ready to ask for a to go bag. My sister recommended this place because she knows I love Thai food and it was close to her house. The place decorations are wonderful. It gives it a modern look but still maintains the Asian atmosphere. They also accept reservations which is nice. Since the party I had can't handle spice, we had to order everything mild :( We ordered the following: Drink sampler This is good to try if you are indecisive and want to try a bit of everything before committing to one drink. I liked all of them, ranging from sweet to spicy and sour. Afterwards, you get to pick one of them and they give you a full order. Nice. Fried Tamarind Chicken Wings I would say this is the best thing we ordered. The wings were fried perfectly being crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauce they had was sweet-salty, almost reminds me of the chicken wings from San Tung in SF, which by the way are my favorite wings. You get 4 pcs for $10 so it is a bit pricy, but I think is worth it. Northern style curry noodles It's a mix between a noodle dish and stew in my opinion. The curry was flavorful and thick, and the noodles were served half crispy which softens in the sauce. Waterfall beef salad This reminds me of other salads from other Thai places. I'm giving Manaow 5 stars for the food but the service is really bad. Really, really bad! As a waiter, it's painful to experience. Let me be clear: the servers are sweet, but so inefficient and slow. Twice I've asked to receive an appetizer before my main course and have gotten both dishes together. Also, the waiters repeatedly ask if everything is OK throughout the meal. It's uncomfortable. A server should only check once to make sure the food is good, and return only to refill drinks during the meal, coming back at the end to box up leftovers and offer dessert. When it's busy, they are completely flummoxed. People wait at the door without being greeted, multiple servers pass a dirty table empty-handed without picking up a few dishes on their way back to the kitchen. This inefficiency means that the folks at the door wait longer for a table. Lastly, servers should always be scanning the room as they walk through to see if anyone is trying to get their attention. Flagging someone down for hot sauce or more water shouldn't be a chore. I keep coming back for the food, which is incredible. Thai classics and small plates of more uncommon Thai street food. I haven't had a bad dish. A plea to the owner: please train your staff for their sake and ours. And keep up the fantastic cooking!!! read more

Manaow is a great hybrid traditional Thai food and Thai street food. The best way to experience it, is to order a bunch of the street food appetizers and share with your party. Sure, you can always settle for the usuals (coconut curry, pad see lew, etc.) but why not try spicy pork larb, which is a fried ball of larb, rather than the usual minced meat version. Also the stuffed cripsy chicken wing is really flavorful--it's a fried chicken wing, but with a ball of minced goodness adhered to it! Their thai iced tea is refreshing and on point. I had lived in an area where food options were unlimited every night and afternoon. A little over the crowd in the area I asked my friends to pick me up and go to Thai food place nearby with less foot traffic for lunch. This sleek, modern, little resturant is situated between a liquor store and laundry mat just off Broadway and Loma. When you walk through the door there are two long wooden community table in the center of the resturant, booths to the left and a bench along the wall with tables and chairs lined up in front of it on the right. I love the geometrical shapes used in this place on the walls and lighting. It's trendy but in a minimalist kind of way. I like the subtle details on the table. The numbers are carved in Thai on each table/section. Even the condiments came in a cute metal jars. The place I must say is very pleasing to the eye. Such an awesome vibe. We were greeted and seated promptly and given our menus. The only downfall I would say is on our first visit as soon as she handed us the menu she asked for our order and when we said we weren't ready ( mind you she had just handed to us) she took quite a bit to come back. We actually had to wave them to come back to us. Once we ordered our meal the food came pretty quick...one by one. So we were getting our meals at different times. Which sucks because we're not eating together or if we wait our food will get cold waiting for the others to come. We had to sort of do it family style so we can all eat together which I wouldn't mind had we planned it that way. Other times we came here they were more attentive. So I'd have to say service is a hit or miss here. The food.. oh yummmmmy! Flavoring was on point. Not a dish I've had here disappointed my friends or I. Their portions are just right. We were always full after our meals. On cold or my sick days tom yum noodle soup is the perfect cure. I love that they also have duck Larb here! Roasted duck with lime juice, shallots and powdered rice extra spicy. Most places I have to special order if they happen to have a duck dish. I love duck! They have different rice options here as well jasmine, brown or sticky rice. They also have vegetarian options for some of my friends which is awesome! We love this place and although I just moved out the area a few days ago I'm already planning to visit again lol. Manaow Thai is a chic and modern restaurant in a place you would least expect it to be. I feel so bad for the laundromat and liquor store owners, because all the traffic in the narrow parking lot is for Manaow. If you're going during peak dinner hours, you might want to try for street parking instead. The interior is really minimal and cool with the geometric patterns, and they had cool music playing (chill Drum n Bass?! Sweet). It was also super crowded with the dinner rush. My friend is pretty obsessed with this place, and it was his second time eating there that weekend. He highly recommended the Northern Style Curried Noodles ($11), but I figured that I could just try some of his, so I chose the Southern Style Curried Noodles ($11) instead. My only gripe with this place was how long it took for them to get our orders to us. We did have a large party of 7, but it just felt like they could have handled it better. When the food did come out, several came in succession, but the last one didn't arrive until way later. Perhaps an understaffed kitchen? Any complaints vanished once I took a bite out of my dish. The Northern and Southern are like yin and yang. The Southern Curry was rich, slightly sweet, and bursting with flavor. The Northern Curry is just as flavorful, but it is all about the savory. Both were really delicious, and I highly recommend them both- what it comes down to is if you prefer sweet or savory for dinner. I ran out of noodles very quickly, so I just took the rest of my dish to go so I could have it over rice later. A wonderful addition to the already eclectic mix of restaurants in Long Beach. This is the best Thai food I've ever had! The menu choices are more than I've ever seen and the flavors of even the simplest dishes were excellent. The inside of this hole in the wall restaurant is simple and clean, nothing fancy. I would have never noticed it driving by unless someone had taken me there first. This place is the best Thai food in the US that I've ever had. It is quite authentic. I had the khao soy noodles and it tasted just like it did in Thailand. I will say that the beef is cut into larger chunks than it was in Thailand, however, that did not take away from the taste. The broth, noodles, and texture were spot on. Yelp should devise the review criteria for restaurants so as to separate the Service component from the Food, each with their own Star Rating. After a long wait for our drinks they arrived with ice filled to the brim. We were informed that Management charges EXTRA for NO ICE and for Refills ? Seriously ? NO ICE = MORE MONEY ? Wait, did I hear that correctly ? In all my years of dining out I have never heard of such a policy. No check back from our server after our food was brought to the table until we were almost finished with our meal. At the finish, only a few of our plates were cleared from the table. How does one base a fair gratuity when service comprises a mere few minutes of order taking, delivery of the food and presenting a check ? Will I return to Manaow ? First, the style points. It's new. It's modern and elegant (minimal yet smart interior design, warm yet upscale). Nice serving plates and other china Next, the food: pretty good. I had the stuffed crispy chicken wings and pad sai ew with shrimp ($2.50 up charge). The wings were many -- 5 -- and rather delicate (but only the tip and center segment rather than a full 2- joint wing). Tasty and light, not your monster stuffed honking wings. Pad sai ew was a bit more oily than I like, but came with huge shrimp, nicely grilled. It felt like a modern twist on a classic dish. I'd suspect there will be some more reinterpretations -- like their fall seasonal dessert, sweet coconut rice with pumpkin custard, which sounds yummy. To drink, I had a cup of fresh hot coffee, bold and strong. Located in (once again) a nondescript strip mall on Broadway, Manaow is a hip, welcome addition to our increasingly vibrant corridor. Northern Curry Styled Noodles is a must try! The slow-cooked beef was very tender & the red curry was deliciously flavored. While the egg noodles in this dish was good, I think I'll ask to substitute with rice next time. Rice just soaks up the curry so much better! Sorry Mr. Rice Bowl, I learned my lesson (the hard way) & will never eat curry with noodles again! The Red Curry with Roasted Duck and the Southern Curry Styled Noodles were both good dishes, but I still preferred the more flavorful Northern Curry Styled Noodle Dish. Only disappointing dish of the night was the Tom Yum Soup which was really sour! As for spiciness level, maybe something was off that night because medium spicy & thai spicy both tasted mild. The Mango Sticky Rice (ripe mango & two scoops of pandan-flavored sticky rice drizzled with coconut milk) is not to be missed! One word. WOW! I was floored by Manaow, so much to say.... First, the location is deceptive, nestled between a liquor store and a coin laundromat, this little treasure shines. The decor is ultra modern, clean, sleek and sexy. I loved the communal table and the bright space. Also, importantly. Uber clean. Immaculate is the right word. Next, the service was friendly, attentive, and not the least bit awkward. The staff checked on us regularly without being intrusive, and made pleasant small talk while inserting helpful tips on the food. Truly superior service. Of the utmost importance, the food was divine, fresh, flavorful and delicious. We had the crispy spring rolls, which lasted under 4 mins. So good, the glass noodles and mushrooms shined. I ordered the roasted duck fried rice with basil at medium spice level. So darned tasty and it had a kick. My friend ordered the pad thai with shrimp. I was here third-wheeling it on a long overdue dinner date at the suggestion of my coupled friends. They had been there before and really liked it, so now it was my turn to check it out. Decor is modern cozy. Lots of pretty woods everywhere. They even have a cute flower in a mini-vase on your table. I would totally come back here on an actual date. The seating is well spaced so that you won't feel like your conversation is up in some other conversation's business. The food is great. We ordered the Tamarind Chicken Wings to share, then got our own separate orders of Green Bean Chili w/ Tofu, Panang Curry, and Drunken Noodles. I ate the Tamarind Chicken and Drunken Noodles so I'll comment on those two. The Tamarind Chicken was flavorful but not overly sweet, and the sizes of the wings were big. You get 4 for $10. As for the Drunken Noodles, well, I don't think I am a good judge of them because I have only ordered it twice in my life. Manaow's Drunken Noodles are a little saltier than the one I had before. The flavor profile is also lighter. So it's really whatever you prefer. A lot of people have raved about their noodles so don't let my neutral review stop you from ordering it. What can I say, the food was really amazing. I've only been there once, but I'm sure to go back again. As others have said, the service was quick and friendly. The decor was quite stunning, with beautifully lacquered Thai hardwood tables that look to have been custom made. The tables have a tongue and groove construction, and a very attractive shape with a lot of right angles that even suggested I was in an authentic Thai dining room somewhere in urban Bangkok. After I ordered, I didn't really wait too long for my food, though it felt a bit like it, being the first table seated after they opened. But when my food came, it was clear that my dishes were made fresh just then, served piping hot, and made to order. My Galanga soup (aka Tom Kha Kai), which I have eaten a lot of in my days, was as freshly made as it gets. Excellent consistency and beautiful large pieces of tender chicken (they also offer it with Tofu instead of chicken), with perfectly done mushrooms. It was even spiced to order. The portion size of the Galanga soup was definitely enough to have as your whole meal, maybe with a scoop of rice, or enough for 2 if both of you order a main course as well. I ordered a main course as well, and had a nice amount of the soup left over to take home. For my main course, I ordered the Drunken Noodles (on the recommendation of a friend). Wow! Really delicious, and they managed to keep the ground chicken tender as well. They were hot, flavorful and just plain delicious. Served in the center of a ring of crisp cold lettuce, the contrasting temperatures and textures really made the meal perfectly satisfying. The noodles were also spiced to order and, given that I like spicy, the cold crunchy lettuce leaves I had in every few bites offered some greatly appreciated balance to my dining experience. Regarding my first foodie experience at Manaow, I have't got a bad thing to say. The food was flavorful, well balanced, expertly made and just plain delicious. I'd recommend this dining experience to anybody who just happens to be in the Long Beach area and craving some delicious Thai food. Because nothing is perfect... if I were forced to find a fault, I'd have to say that the place is very echo-ey. I'd like to see them get some baffling panels on the wall, or something similar to reduce the echo. The place fills up fast, and at least 16 people came and went (with 9 of them sitting to dine) in the short time before my food arrived. Though everyone was speaking at a regular slightly lowered restaurant tone, you could hear all conversations clearly, due to the echoes, and with some level of reverberation. It wasn't off putting, but it was loud enough for me to be conscious of it during my meal. That said, it would not prevent me from returning, not by a long shot. :) read more

TIP: Whatever you order, save room for the Sticky Rice and Mango! Manaow is a new Thai eatery located in a small strip mall in the heart of Belmont Heights in Long Beach. I was visiting with a friend in the area and we decided to try it out after reading all the positive yelp reviews. Now, don't let the dated strip mall look (or adjacent laundromat) scare you away - once you walk inside you are greeted by a fresh and modern interior, with clean wood tables lining the perimeter and communal tables in the middle - one for groups, another for singles. They also have a patio area. If we had one complaint about the interior, it was with the harsh lamps in the down lights above the perimeter tables. They were glaringly bright. Oh, and the AC was a touch on the cold side. It was late, so we decided to skip the appetizers. If (actually, when) we come back, we'll probably try the grilled shrimp and mango, the grilled Thai salami, or the Thai spring rolls. Something to look forward to... At our waiter's recommendation, we ordered the Panang Beef Curry and the Drunken Noodles, both at spicy level 7, to share. The curry was served with a bowl of jasmine rice. The rich panang curry sauce was wonderful - a perfect blend of sweet and spicy with a pronounced rich flavor of the coconut milk base. The generous chunks of beef were hearty tender. All in all, a delicious dish. The drunken noodles with ground chicken (yes, ground chicken) was different, but still very good. The rice noodles had a firm but delicate texture in a rich, savory sauce and the ground chicken was actually just enough meat protein to complete the dish. We finished the meal off with an order of the sweet sticky rice and mango. It was a bit odd seeing green rice, but the dish was delicious - two sticky rice mounds with a decadent coconut cream sauce, served with slices of fresh mango. Highly recommended. The most incredible Thai food I've ever had in my life. Yellow curry, pad Thai, and the fried rice are exceptional

I use to live in this area years ago, haven't been back for over 17 years. Today, we were here for Long Beach Pride. We crave Thai Food, so we decided to check this place out due to the high yelp reviews. Clearly, this Establishment came after we moved out of the area. When you walked in, you can almost automatically feel and sense the modernism of the place. To be quite honest, I was a little freaked out, cause places that looks so modern, nice, organized and almost too clean concerns me when it comes to taste quality. I was definitely dead wrong in some sense and the reviews are right in certain sense. Here's why: Although the Garlic beef was good, it did tasted a little salty for me. However, the chicken pad thai were one of tbe best I've had other than Archi's in Las Vegas. In addition, I like the way they serve their young coconut juice, it had a fun color to it with plenty of young coconut pieces. Most importantly, I wish they had a little more dessert options. Our waitress Kristine did explained that it changes all the time. Therefore, today, all they had was the mangoes and sticky rice. Although I love sticky rice, based on the picture I see on the menu, it looks amazing. However, personally, I don't like eating my sticky rice with mangoes, I prefer coconut ice cream. Unfortunately, they don't even have that, which is peculiar. I can see no fried bananas, but no coconut ice cream? Yikes! The price was decent, not cheap, but not too crazy either, considering the real estate in the area. Our server Kristine was amazing, honestly, in my opinion, she was the one that carried the overall 4 stars. Kristine was also super friendly and accommodating/patience with her recommendations. Next time I'm in the area, I'd like to try the pad se ew or the beef Panang, looks great on the pictures. Tips: The parking was great and easy access. If you are a big eater, I don't think the garlic beef will be enough for you. The portion was kinda small, although it was perfect for me, but I'm not a big eater. Furthermore, if you are in a hurry, don't expect to get your foods quickly, cause the wait was pretty long. The owners of Manaow are the same owners as On Broadway just down the street--and they are so nice, friendly and warm. In fact, everyone who works here is so attentive and just really helpful. It's a bit deceiving because it's located in a dank, semi-empty strip mall. But when you walk in, it's gorgeous--just a really modern and hip look. I'm Thai so I'm a big critic of Thai food, but this place was yummy. We got the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles), Panang (curry) and sticky rice with mango. All were really good. We asked for spicy on both the noodles and curry which is the perfect amount if you really like a kick in your food. We were sooo full from all the food, but just had to get the sticky rice w/ mango because our server said it was one of her top picks on the menu. By far the best Thai food I've had in the area. All of the dishes are incredibly flavourful and everything tastes really fresh.

Great food, Highly recommend. Our new go-to spot. Get the chicken wings, they are possibly the crispiest wings I've ever had.
