Kouign-amann
Ashley R.

Would never go back here. It's a cute place inside but the service was horrible. They didn't know what a breve was and actually lost one of our drink orders that was $8. I got a Kouign-amann but didn't even finish it because it wasn't good. They didn't ask if we wanted anything heated. None of us in my group would recommend this place.

Really good coffee and convenience location between Foggy Bottom Metro, GW University and federal buildings. Quick and friendly service.

This café/bakery is so cute. Super busy on the weekends as it's located in Georgetown, but I love the aesthetic. It's kind of like a order and then find your seat. However it's often so busy that you might not be able to find a seat during the weekend. The staff is so nice and polite. Their menus have tons of different options from sweet to savory breakfast/brunch options. I ordered a variety of things here, but I wish I tried. Weren't those savory options as all my dishes were super sweet. I tried their strawberry shortcake pancakes. Those were OK. My partner ordered the croissant waffles (croffles) these were super sweet, would not get again unless you have an insane sweet tooth. We ordered that with two sides of eggs. Also try two of their pastries, which we really really liked.

I enjoyed my omelette, roasted potatoes, and toast! This Maman location has a lot of seating available and was a nice spot to catch up with friends and spend time while it poured rain outside! I will note that the service was a bit slow, and we had to remind them to make our drinks, but I completely understand that they were trying to accommodate many customers on a busy day.

I've loved Maman ever since I visited a NY location in 2022. Glad to see they've kept up the same vibe, aesthetic, and great menu. Everything tasted fresh and I genuinely love coming here. I don't think the company itself is French but it's definitely heavily 'inspired by'...from the food/drinks, to the decor, to even the service. The service is exactly like what you'd experience in France and reminds me of how you're treated in Zara lol. No one is blatantly rude, but they also aren't very helpful right off the bat either. Overall, I'd give this place a 7 or 8 out of 10.

This is a cute French style cafe that has pastries, coffees, and food. It is a great place to meet up with friends, but can get a bit loud - so not the best place to work/study at. I would say that the pastries and food are not as quite as good as they look, but the ambience and the service make up for it!

The manager got in a screaming match with my husband because I didn't like the specialty latte & wanted to get it swapped with a CHEAPER basic latte. The manager told him "you are wrong, it is great, everyone likes it"... I didn't know that managers were supposed to operate off of their personal bias and tell the customer they're wrong for having certain taste preferences (the latte sucked and tasted like artificial almond syrup). He finally agreed to swapping it after my husband asked "aren't you as a manager supposed to take feedback from the customer?" This place is always packed and there's never anywhere to sit anyways. Don't bother going, you won't be able to understand any of the employees (if you speak English) and you might get screamed at if you don't like your drink. Maman, you should really educated your management on customer service! It's crucial to your business model and you have just lost a customer for life

First time at a Maman location and after lunch was in the mood for a Matcha on a colder day in Georgetown. Popped in and had friendly service, ordered pretty quickly and before you knew it, there was my beautiful Matcha Latte right on the counter for me. The decor in this place is so nice and it was a very nice sized space! Overall a great first experience at maman. My only regret was not getting something from behind that sweets counter but an excuse to come back right?

Loved the vibe in here - beautifully decorated and their pastries and drinks are equally as pretty! The cherry blossom croissant cube was almost too pretty to eat! I stopped in on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and it was super busy. The to go line to order moved quickly, but getting beverages took a bit longer. Also had quite a long bathroom line (15 people deep for two unisex bathrooms) and the bathroom I went in could have used a bit of attention.

This is going to be my proper review of maman. At this point I have been to this place about 10+ times. Let me start by saying that I love the interior. This pretty much is how I want my kitchen to look. The staff is wonderful. The service they provide is top notch. The baked goods are amazing! I have tried the banana walnut bread, Nutella brownie, Martha Stewart Kitchen Sink cookie and Martha Stewart Lemon Creme Brûlée Bun. All of these items are amazing especially the Lemon Creme Brulee Bun. That is epic like a 9 minutes song. The sandwich however was just okay. Nothing special. A bit over priced but then again this is your premium coffee shop so I cannot complain... or maybe I can? The coffee is a labor of love! Whoever the barista is deserves a lot of praise for the fabulous job they do. I would like to give this place 4.1/5 If you want to waste your down payment on coffee and stuff - this is the place to do so.

This was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. I ordered the avocado sandwich and added extra salmon on top, and everything was absolutely delicious and very fresh! I also tried the London Fog tea for the first time, and I liked it as well. The presentation was beautiful, the place was very clean, and the design of the space was amazing: cozy, warm, and welcoming. My friend also really enjoyed her food. So we had a wonderful breakfast on our last day in Washington, DC. I recommend visiting this place if you are in the area.

This has quickly become my wife's (and mine too I guess lol) go-to café. With Inkind taking it from pricey to a solid deal and such creative coffees like blueberry muffin or the pumpkin spice matcha latte were always pulled back with intrigue. They have a pretty good smoked salmon crogel croissant/bagel thingamajig as well as a steak sandwich that will not fail. All of their pastries appear to be on another level in regards to creativity and deliciousness, and the few that we have tried have been solid options. This place really just gives a great positive café vibe so fitting right there in the middle of Georgetown.

Ameena A.

I honestly love all of the Maman locations- super consistent with the quality and freshness of their food, pastries, and drinks. I also LOVE their gluten free options- that chicken sandwich on GF bread gets me every time!! For this location in particular, the only reason I have 4 and not 5 stars is due to the service and how busy it was!! Now honestly you should sort of expect this in Georgetown... but for some reason the lines were just super unclear to me (where did it start?! end?! there felt like multiple?!), it was difficult to tell where you food/drink would be ready, and it was just so crowded both indoors and outdoors. I was overstimulated lol. ^I think it speaks to how much this place is loved which is wonderful- just prepare yourself! Or, perhaps there are more "off" times that are less busy.

Unfortunately, the location in DC has permanently closed and we were still very much in the mood for some pastries... my cousin who is French has previously sang the praises of this Lil French pastry shop, so of course I had to give it a try. I am so happy that I did because I truly believe that I have stumbled upon my new favorite pastry shop in the area! Upon walking in the smell of croissants and almonds and sweet, sweet delicacies filled my nostrils. I basically became the human version of Remy from ratatouille inhaling a delicious bouillabaisse simmering on the stove top for hours....seeing colors and flavors so bright and intoxicating I simply had to have it I walked in and my eyes were instantly attracted to so many delicious options from classics like Palmiers and Napoleons to some unique flavor combos I've never tried before combined like raspberry and pistachio. Of course, I decided to grab a little bit of everything to make an accurate assessment as a YELP Elite should!! My favorite hands-down was the Berry Millefuille. The way the pastry crumbled in my mouth with every bite, combined with the tart, fresh raspberries, and thick flavorful custard.... Was worth every penny. Honorable mentions go to the peach rosemary tart, which was so unique with the added botanical of rosemary with some fresh sweet peach slices on top and a very crunchy tart base. We all enjoyed everything we purchased! I also ordered one of their seasonal specialties, the rosemary latte with skim milk and iced. The flavors were so uniquely crafted to where you could taste everything but everything combined together for the perfect sip. The ladies who greeted us at the cash register were so patient, so kind, and so understanding of my excitement and difficulty deciding and they even helped me add on a little chocolate happy birthday rectangle to the pastry I purchased for my husband! Without a doubt, this is only the first of the many times I will visit the establishment. It was so authentic, so delicious and passed all the vibe checks even from the French side of the family. I was told I have to return when they first open to have a fresh croissant and a fresh baguette that is on par with what you would have in Paris. Even the items in the fridge were made in France and were delicious fruit nectars that were very unique- we purchased a passionfruit nectar that didn't even make it past the doors before we had completely inhaled it and purchased a lychee nectar for later. I am so excited to have learned about this establishment and believe me when I say you must run, not walk, to experience it for yourself. Note- The dine in area inside the establishment is limited to a couple small tables. Definitely not equipped for large parties and a couple outdoor seatings right outside.

We snagged seating indoors and soaked in the laid back European vibes. We had our delicious coffees - mercifully served in proper ceramic cups and some sweet treats. Would definitely be back - perhaps in the morning because I hear that the croissants are supposed to be on point!

I would go for that alone, but unfortunately for me, everything else is also amazing. I live in Adams Morgan, so I have another neighborhood bakery that I frequent simply because it's closer. Rose Ave is still fairly close, and I go pretty regularly, but somehow I had never taken my parents there. On their most recent visit, we happened to be nearby and stopped in. My mom was genuinely annoyed with me. Not actually angry, obviously, but after trying everything she basically wanted to know why, if Rose Ave was this close to where I live, I had been taking her to the other bakery all these years. Apparently I had been depriving her of what she now considers the best bakery she's been to in DC. (For the record, I refuse to pit two excellent bakeries against each other. There is room in my life for both.) I've tried the breakfast sandwiches, several of the filled pastries, and plenty of the more elaborate creations, and everything is fantastic. But oddly enough, one of my absolute favorites is their simple vanilla donut. There is something perfect about it. It isn't overwhelmingly sugary, but it's still sweet, soft, delicate, and just feels like the perfect little treat. Conveniently, my doctor's office is also nearby, so I have developed a very mature healthcare system in which I schedule morning appointments and reward myself afterward with Rose Ave. I'm pretty sure doing responsible grown-up things for my health cancels out the sugar. I have not asked my doctor to confirm this.

I had absolutely no plans on buying or eating cake that day, but as a cake lover stuff happens. It was such a cute building the pastries had to be everything! It turned out to be the perfect stop. 1. The looks The building itself is so cute on the outside, and being a fan of the color pink, it instantly caught my attention. Inside, it feels less like a fast, high volume bakery and more like an intimate cake boutique. It gives small town where the owners know you by your first name. They even served my slice of coconut cake on a real plate, which was such a cute, bourgeois touch that I loved. 2. Service The hospitality here is top-notch. On my first visit, yes you heard me! Lol! The gentleman Eric who rang me up was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different cookie and cake flavors. I ended up returning the very next day, and although he wasn't there, the other two staff members working which included Mikaela were absolutely delightful and so kind. The young lady told me her daughter loves the carrot cake as well and Mikaela said they started working there because they loved the patties so much! 3. The Cakes -Coconut Cake: This slice was so delicious, fluffy, and airy that it instantly reminded me of being a kid at holiday family meals with a fresh coconut cake on the table. -Carrot Cake: It was everything you want a carrot cake to be.
