Mama Pho in Aina Haina is usually one of our go-tos. The service is always warm and friendly, and the restaurant itself is clean, bright, and comfortable--just an easy place to enjoy a meal. On our most recent visit, though, we were a little disappointed. The flavors weren't quite as strong as what we've come to expect. The pho broth was more mild than usual, and the sauce on my noodle dish tasted a bit watered down. It wasn't bad, just not as tasty as our past experiences. That said, we've had plenty of delicious meals here before, so we're hoping this was just an off night. We'll definitely visit again. read more

We stopped by for dinner, since we were in the area. The food was decent. It's kind of hard to mess up pho. You just need a good broth. Their broth is great. It had a nice aroma and wasn't salty. It was the other items that I ordered that was ok. We got the chicken pho $19.50, 2 spring rolls $9.50 and their crispy chicken wings $13. The pho was good, but they don't have oxtail pho, what I usually order. The spring rolls were good, but the nuoc cham was off. It was either they forgot to put in the fish sauce, or put in very little. It tasted like I was dipping the rolls in sugary water. The wings weren't that crispy. Again, they went light with the sauce. I could barely taste it. The pho here is good, but I wouldn't order the sides again. They're running a promo. Wow I guess it's been a little bit since we've gone to mama pho every time we go the prices increase drastically. Parking - lots of parking in the Aina Haina shopping center, the two shops to the right of pho, Aina Haina Chop Suey and Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha have closed down. Same shopping center as Foodland and McDonalds Starbucks. Pho- giant bowl with tons of meat but the meat seems so thin too thin for $22 and in comparison to other places. Based on what you order for the pho it ranges from $19.50 to $23.50, when did pho get more expensive than ramen? Mama Pho serves up some really tasty food. I haven't tried much here, but my go-to is the rare steak, flank and brisket pho. It's always a winner and the best soup on a cold night or when you're feeling under the weather. Their spring rolls are also very tasty. Although it may seem a little pricey (~$21 for a bowl of pho), it's A LOT. I always have a full container to bring home for another meal. Even my son, who normally can finish his entire meal, brings home leftovers. Service is always great. The workers are pleasant and very attentive. Came by after driving around for a while, they were closing in about 55-50 minutes so there were only one other party inside so it was pretty quiet inside. We were helped very quickly and also told that there were closing the kitchen soon. We ordered and the food almost immediately came out. We ordered the: - Mama's Special Pho: They weren't wrong about the portion, it's a pretty decent sized bowl packed with noodles. The toppings (protein etc) weren't any more than other large size pho from other establishments though. - 4 Piece Spring Roll: The dipping sauce definitely helps to bring everything and the flavors together. I ordered a rare meet Pho to eat in and one order of summer role for take out. Pho was very good and didn't have too much MSG affect the next day so their soup is good. The restaurant is clean and their original spicy garlic sauce are very good. A bit expensive so I didn't purchase it. Only thing about the portion is that it almost seems if they are conserving vegetables such as basils & bean sprouts. Usually with Pho dish at other Vietnamese restaurants always give generous amounts of greens. Summer roles was good, too but again, there are so much rice noodles and hardly any vegetables inside. I was impressed, I haven't been here in year and forgot how much I liked this place. Came in around 11am just as they were opening up, two other tables came in at the same time. The restaurant was really clean, and service was really quick. I normally get sides but my friend told me the portions here were decent, so we skipped the spring rolls. Pho came out hot and quick. I asked for the bean sprouts blanched and they were able to do it for me. Vegetables and lemons on the side seemed fresh and they had the typical hoisin and sriracha along with a chili oil I'm assuming they sell. The food is good but not sure if that justifies the price. I rarely visit anymore but the only thing for sure is that no matter how long between visits, service is consistently bad. Every visit is something else...food ordered after another table that came later, water comes last or not at all, wrong order, forgotten order, etc. Even all that wouldn't be so bad except they are never apologetic about the errors. The food itself was decent but overpriced ($22 for a bowl of pho), unfortunately the service and billing issues overshadowed it. I was charged for items I did not order. When I pointed it out, staff argued with me before eventually agreeing to refund the incorrect charges. A few days later, I checked my statement and realized I had been double charged instead. I called to have it reconciled and was given a hard time again. To make matters worse, the staff member spoke to someone else about me in Vietnamese while I was on the phone -- seemingly assuming I wouldn't understand. I am Vietnamese, and I understood everything. That was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled matters. I was in the area and stopped by to get my pho fix. The place opened at 11 am on the dot. Walking in I was the first customer, but by the time I left the place was almost half full. Water was brought right away. I ordered #22, the pho tai chin min, rare steak, brisket and flank. Sooo good. The flavorful soup comes out in a very large bowl, piping hot and packed with meat. I mean it - this was the most amount of meat I've gotten anywhere on island. Really worth it. The noodles were tasty and perfect. They also sell their own garlic chili oil so of course I had to try - it's so good!! I bought a jar before I left. Overall I really liked this place. Quick, convenient parking and tasty. My boyfriend was in the mood for pho so we decided to come to Mama Pho for dinner tonight. This is my boyfriend's go to for a comforting and filling bowl of pho. He got pho for dinner but I was in the mood for something else. I ordered the Summer Rolls, which was my first time trying them here! The Summer Rolls came with two rolls cut in half. Both rolls were loaded with fresh lettuce, mint, and vermicelli. Although, I wish it came with more shrimp as there were only one shrimp per half a roll. The rolls were light, filling, and the perfect amount for me. For a Wednesday night there was a small dinner rush. The servers were attentive and helpful and our food came out relatively fast. This was my go to pho place but not anymore, the customer service is complete ass and they always forget to give you sauces even when you ask them to write it down, i guess you can't expect much from this place. Normally I wouldn't get upset about anything but the last 4 times I ordered take out they didn't put any sauces and the basil leaves were completely trashed and old. Also the $9 wings were gnarly. Stopped by Mama Pho since I was in the Aina Haina area craving for some spring rolls. It was early dinner time around 530pm but the restaurant was already pretty busy with a few large parties. After I was seated, I overheard the table next door had a few mixed up with their orders. Eventually, the restaurant gave away an order of summer roll since it was made but it was something they didn't order. Our party of 2 was seated by the entrance of the restaurant, furthest away from the service/ cashier area so I had to wave/ flag a person down a few times. Once the order was placed, the food came out really fast. For the price of the $20 pho, it is a pretty good portion and was sufficient to share among 2 people. I was disappointed that the noodles were overcooked / soft. With so many Vietnamese choices in the area, I hope they will improve the service and food quality. read more

Very delicious pho! I was impressed. Mama Pho is located in the Aina Haina shopping center. Lots of parking but can get busy...well in non-COVID times. For now, its very open. We tried the Pho with Flank Steak and the Pho with Brisket. The broth was very clean, tasty, and a little oily. It had a rich flavor that was quite delectable with a great compliment to the noodles. They give a decent amount of vegetables, which were fresh. The Flank Steak was pretty good. Gave a good amount - can't complain. I was also told the Pho with Brisket was good as well. Although this place has tasty pho, it was not that impressive in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't help that their prices are quite high in comparison with other places. Both of our dishes were $13. Does it stick out in terms of "pho" go-tos? No. But the pho restaurants in the East side are limited, so if you want pho, Mama Pho is a strong contender to fulfill any craving. read more

FPO and I were kinda, sorta hungry and wanting something different. We'd tried Mama Pho years ago, when they first opened. The pho was good but as FPO is not a noodle soup fan in general getting back there wasn't a high priority. Fast forward. A couple weeks back FPO got sick and a colleague of mine said, "Chicken Pho ... works every time". Now, this friend isn't a doctor but she worked in a hospital once so I figured she must know stuff. I picked up chicken pho for FPO and vegetable pho for me because I'm still trying to eat healthier. First of all, the prices were as high as I remembered ($12.50 each) but the portions exceeded all memory. I went home with two bags worth of pho and pho accoutrements. Plus, it was good, as good as I remembered. Hop forward to earlier this evening. A day full of errands, kinda, sorta hungry. We decided to give Mama Pho another try. This time we tried the Green Papaya Salad for $11.95 (sweet, tangy, and with a little kick), Mama's Sampler Plate for $15.50 (a summer roll, two spring rolls, a winter roll, and two chicken drumettes - we enjoy all of it), Grilled Pork and Tofu for 13.95 (it reminded me of cinnamon malasadas but in a good way, FPO said closer to her homemade char siu but yes on the cinnamon, bottom line is we both liked it). Because FPO couldn't remember if it was the iced coffee or the iced tea we solved the problem and got both (iced coffee was the winner but both were good). Topped off the afternoon with their Fried Banana and Ice Cream (not exactly healthy but hey, there was fruit in there). All in all today's visit was as enjoyable as the previous two. Plus, we had leftover salad and pork and tofu so four meals ... score! The service pretty good. They greeted us when we came in (kind of hard to miss us as the place was empty when we arrived). They were polite and friendly. Because we were there during a slow time, they were prepping for the evening rush and were keeping themselves busy. A few others came in. One done in and several take outs. We didn't get a lot of attention from the servers but again, they were all very pleasant when we did. I would absolutely go back again. I would give negative stars if I could. I used to come here quite often and loved the food and the service used to be pretty good. I have not been here for a while until recently, and the staff left in charge was pretty bad. The only helpful person was a young man who was trying hard to make things work. The younger and older ladies were not helpful nor sympathetic about any of the issues and just rudely responded with flat monotone "NOs" For example, I wanted to eat in, but just sit right outside on the outdoor seating. I asked if I could just eat with the dine in bowls and utensils, and was given a very rude "no" and that I have to do takeout. I accept that and go with the takeout option, so I could eat right outside within window view of their dining area. I get my pho as takeout and go to sit outside to eat. The pho is packaged in a mini takeout box and soup in a narrow plastic container. Basically, it was impossible to really eat the pho without going home, and getting a bowl. I walk right back inside to ask if I could get some type of bowl, takeout bowl, or styrofoam bowl. If the majority of your menu is soup and pho, I figure like most pho and ramen establishments, your takeout setup would involve some type of bowl I can put all the food in so I can eat it without any additional bowls/plates. The young lady worker just says "no' with a scowl and that was it. No helpful suggestion or apology. Just says no, and tells me I only get utensils. Nothing I could do, so I just leave to attempt to eat out of my near impossible setup they gave me. I look through the bag, and VOILA! No utensils whatsoever to speak of. With the extremely rude service and the fact that my takeout was near impossible to eat besides going home and actually getting my own utensils, and unwillingness to accommodate to anything, I would not be shocked as they lose more loyal customers int he future. The food quality has also gone downhill. The broth is just salty, without much flavor. As if it were just MSG and water. They have expanded to Ala Moana with their new location so maybe this has stretched both the quality of their food and service. read more

Excellent Pho broth. Lots of choices and always possible to customize your Pho. My husband's favorite is the tendon. Rolls are great appetizers or a light, healthy lunch. My favorite is the summer roll made with a generous amount of shrimp. Peanut sauce is full of flavor and topped with peanuts. Mix in extra hoisin or sriracha always available on the tables. Service is quick and always attentive. I'm usually waiting for servers to refill i e water but this is never the case at Mama Pho. Servers are hardworking with just the right sense of urgency when it is busy. They are always cheerful and welcoming. Is it just me or has pho prices gone up? This place had good pho but a bit too sweet for my taste. Hubby had the Volcano chicken dish and that was spicy good! They add jalapeños in it so it definitely has some heat! They also accommodated me because I didn't want any noodles and just bean sprouts instead. The service was friendly although they forgot to bring the Thai coffee until after we received our meals. I would say it did rub me the wrong way when it said on the menu, "$2 for extra bowl to share." I just don't feel that's good business when you charge customers like that. read more
