Well, after 30 min of staring at a menu and still not having a server at least greet us, let alone take a drink order, we left without a single person saying a word to us. I've been coming to this establishment for many years, never for the food which is sub par, especially for the price but the service has consistently gone downhill over the years. Such a shame being its unique ambiance and experience. Hopefully or last child that is on its way, may get to experience the MTM at least once with the great experience that I remember. But until she's old enough to remember it, I think we will remember this place the way it was instead of trying to experience what used to be, now. read more

Magic Time Machine - Bars Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Go for the experience! The food is your basic American restaurant food, not the best but definitely not the worst. It's fun as an adult but even more fun with kids, I definitely recommend if you are looking for a family friendly dining experience. Be prepared to spend some extra money for a balloon animal and magician that make their rounds. Go, laugh, and have fun! read more

Staff was very friendly! The atmosphere is obviously very interesting and fun, but the staff made it even more so for us! Took our kids here for our daughter's birthday and they were so impressed! Harley Quinn was our server and she was outstanding! Very personable, thoughtful and efficient. Ron, the gentleman that was making the balloon figures was so patient and went out of his way to reassure us that he would come back to our table once our kids had finished getting autographs. It truly felt like all of the staff wants guests to have a good time. Food was great! I recommend the Salmon. We will be back! read more

I wish I could separate my stars on this review for entertainment and food. My kids had a blast and loved the characters, unfortunately the food was almost inedible, so that changed the stars. MTM was a Thursday evening event with the grandparents and kids, so we were a large party of 8. I hadn't been to MTM in 15 or so years, and thought we'd try as we were only in DFW visiting for a few days. Front staff were great, got us seated immediately (abeit at a table too small for our group, but we were excited), joked with the kids, etc. Our Waiter was okay, but he was already in the weeds when we got there at 6pm, so service was very slow. The kids loved running around and getting autographs and most of the characters had a ton of patience while trying to service tables and stopping for autographs. This made me rethink our slow server, so just anticipate a longer time for food service. The food was pretty terrible. I order the grilled Salmon and vegetables and it was the worst, unedible. Other dishes ordered we're the pork chops, which were drier than sawdust, grilled chicken and fettuccine. The fettuccine was by far the best item at the table. So, I've learned that the characters were great and the kids loved MTM, but we'll probably only stop in for a dessert in the future. read more

Great experience for kids! Food was priced well. Would recommend be prepared to wait.

Really tried enjoying this but it was hard to swallow. The decor needs a major face lift. Everyone tried hard to be funny ' CRICKETS'. Their were cute little themed areas we would have loved to sit in other than Raggedy Ann booth. read more

The food was delicious, our waiter Shaggy was out of this world.. Great experience and fun time we will definitely be going back..

It was fantastic!! Share a plate because it's a lot of food for one person!! So for Thor... HE WAS AMAZING!!

After I posted the last review the owner messaged me and refunded me for the entire thing and assured me that the problem was taken care of

What an amazing dinner experience! Unique atmosphere, energetic and entertaining staff, and the food was really good. My family of four (exhausted from Six Flags all day) got seated in a neat little secluded booth ('Rome') and our server was spot on in the character of Napoleon Dynamite. This was our first time ever dining here, but I feel like I can say with some credibility that he was the best in the restaurant! What a memorable dinner to cap off our trip. I recommend planning ahead and get your family on the waitlist early. This place is not your usual huge touristy theme restaurant, it's so much better, but not nearly big enough. read more

Every time my family comes here it is a great experience! We had cruella deville tonight and she was super nice, attentive and great conversation. Me and my family will be back again! read more

This place never seems to disappoint. We did wait an hour 45 min to be seated so I suggest making a reservation. Even having to wait, it was worth it! Nacho Libre was our waiter and he sang the perfect song (accompanied with a guitar) for my 14 yr old twins birthday. They have balloon animals and character drawings. They also come around to take pictures while you are sitting in the booths and you can choose to purchase for $10 which we did for memories! I wish they had a larger menu but they have a nice selection for what they do have. Perfect place for kids of all ages! read more

We took our 14 yr old son and Family to MTM for his Birthday. Unfortunately, after telling the waiter it was my son's Birthday and a subtle reminder they failed to recognize his Birthday. Food was ok, but the experience was flat. BTW, it was our first time, so definitely not impressed. read more

Pros: The manager was AMAZING! When he came to check on us before leaving, my daughter was discussing how she wanted another magic potion but she didn't want to spend her money. He told her to keep her money and made her one to go. That was so sweet!! Our waiter was Frozon (sp?) and he was super nice and attentive. My kids LOVED the characters and the scenery! My lobster tail was amazing and my children gobbled their food down. My husband wasn't too impressed with fried catfish. Cons: Some of the characters' costumes were a little go revealing. I don't want to see anyone crease between butt cheek and leg. We never received our bread. Nacho Libre almost got some folks in trouble because he told them they could skip my daughters at the salad bar. He may have thought it was funny but had they skipped my children (7 and 2), I would have been upset. My oldest really wanted to sit in the space ship and they acted as though that couldn't be accommodated. I understand during busy hours but we were like the third party in line when they opened the door at 4:30. read more

The food was SO BAD. My husband wanted to go for an early Father's Day dinner; I think to relive our past memories of taking the kids there. I know you go for the atmosphere and not the food; but it was horrible. The atmosphere, the cleanliness, the food...bad!! read more

I need to start off by saying the ONLY reason this place gets even a 3 star is due to how bangin' the spinach artichoke dip was. Came here this past friday night for a coworkers birthday- we only used the bar section. Parking around 9pm was not horrible, I found a spot in the back pretty easily. My biggest issue with this place was the indoor smoking. I thought it was illegal to smoke indoors? Must be only some places. But it was engulfing me from all sides- I could not escape it as soon as I walked up the stairs. The musty smell of the 70's also took over. The drinks and food were very reasonably priced- and tasted great. I was disappointed that the bartender who took my food order, and brought out a ton of other food to the table forgot to bring out my food. After 35 minutes I had to go up and ask. She said she would check and viola there it was- obviously it was forgotten. The gentleman bartender was kind of rude and obviously did not know how to make a drink to save his life. I would also like to add that not even one chair matched- all different weird hippyish fabrics- which is cool. Very divey- the downstairs was different. I would give it a shot if the food was as good at the bar food upstairs. read more

We came into the one in San Antonio yesterday and we got the "mine craft guy" whom I'm not familiar with. Our neighbor got Shaggy" and I know who he is! I'm a baby boomer and I grew up with Shaggy and Velma and Scooby. We got a really good show from Shaggy because he danced and sang a weird Al song "eat it Eat it, open up your mouth and feed it"! Anyway it was close to my grand girls Birthday; so mine craft brought out a plate of cookies with frosting piped onto the plate "summer smells"! Everyone was in stitches, both waiters ganged up on my grand daughters and we never laughed so much! At the end of the day our waiter was yelling "Lynette's card went through successfully " to which every person was laughing! I think they've upped their game to be honest because twenty or ten years ago it wasn't as much fun as this time! read more

The Queen of hearts was our server. She was really sarcastically nice to my kids I really enjoyed it my kids really enjoyed it. Usually when I walk in with 4 small children I can see the servers roll their eyes. We gave her a twenty dollar tip After leaving we thought we should have given her more. Food was really good. read more

We had come here as the kids were growing up so when we came to as ten years later it was a must! Everything was so different! The hostesses and waitress were not friendly, no one even brought us menus. There were dirty tables all around. We were very disappointed. Random date night with my wife; it was awesome. I came here once when I was about 10, and I remembered all the childhood hero characters. This place is like a true Disney movie; designed for kids, but incorporates adult themes if you understand what they mean. It is a great place for families with kids. Adults can enjoy a drink or two while being entertained and talking while kids run around getting autographs from all the movie characters. Upstairs is a bar, mini arcade with air hockey, pinball, and a professional artist. There is also a magic show every 30 minutes. I'd come back again. The wait isn't a short one ... But that is what to be expected for a great place. read more

Called two days prior to book a reservation they informed me you have to have a party of 50 or more for reservations. Our party was of 8. Two days later After arriving it took about 2 hours to finally get seated Once we sat down waiter took our drinks left came back and we didn't get our food until a little over one hour later. Food was like always (we have been here before a couple of times) . We don't really go for the food as much as the experience. Not really sure if the 3 hour wait time was worth it ‍. Only reason im giving two stars is because the balloon guy was hilarious! read more

Took my grandchildren to MTM for a special back to school dinner with high expectations for a fun experience for them. Extremely extremely disappointed!!!!!! We went on a week night when it was not very busy and that didn't help at all. Not ONE character gave my grandkids the time of day. They walked around and was not acknowledged in any way. Food was ok but we were not there for the meal--this was not special or fun for them. Beyond disappointed and won't return. read more

Great restaurant for kids!! Spider-Man was our server and my son was ecstatic. We went when they first opened on a Sunday morning so it wasn't very busy. Definitely a must if you are in the Dallas area! read more

I moved to Dallas from Los Angeles and I'm still exploring, stumbled upon this magical place today. The 1-3 star reviewers are spoiled and rude, this place is for KIDS. Do you complain about the food at Chuck E Cheese? McDonalds? It's a given that it's not gourmet, you go for the experience, the entertainment and because it makes your kids happy. And speaking of happy kids, I don't think I've ever seen my 4 year old laugh so much!! If you've read any of my other reviews you'll know I don't throw praise loosely, THIS ENTIRE STAFF IS SPECTACULAR! They're friendly, hilarious and they work really hard. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU for giving my daughter such a happy memory, we'll be back often. read more

Horrible Service! This place used to be so fun but this trip was so disappointing. The wait staff is what makes this place but for the most part have LOST THIER PERSONALITY! Service was VERY SLOW. When we tried to leave some feedback with the manager, he was very dismissive and told us to just leave the review on Yelp. ??? I asked if he wanted to get some direct feedback and he said no. This explains why this place is going down hill. Tragic to lose such a unique place for special occasions. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for our 2 year anniversary and it was amazing to say the least. Honestly from beginning to end was an experience unlike any other dining place has to offer. We had such a great time, the food was great, and the drinks even better. Our server Miss Piggy was exceptionally wonderful and we absolutely loved her. All in all, such a fun place with great staff. Would definitely come here again. read more

So I know people gripe about the "dingy" or "old" feeling here but you need to understand that it's all part of the appeal. It's suppose to feel pieced together and untraditional. As far as food goes, ours was great! This is our second or third time at a MTM over the past several years and I have to say, because of previous visits, we were less than excited about the food for the night...we came just for the kids and the experience. But, we were pleasantly surprised by the food! I had the southwest chicken and it was great! Husband ate the catfish and it wasn't catfish like from back home, but he said it was good! The kids had chicken strips that don't appear to be frozen...I tried one...they were really good! And Nacho Libre was amazingly entertaining. The balloon man and the magician stopped at our table, plus the picture lady. So! Be prepared to fork over a little more than just the cost of the food and drinks! But, both were very fun! The magic potion was very entertaining for the kids and we thought was worth the money. Overall, a great night for our family and we all enjoyed it! I gave four stars because there's rarely not room for improvement. While the old, musty feel is part of the ambience, there were spots where carpet was just torn and hanging, and a few areas that could just be a little more appealing. Those spots are not helping MTM's case with the overly picky people looking for a Saltgrass experience . Nacho Libre was worth TEN stars. He was AMAZING!!!! And made my kids so happy. I loved him!!! read more

The food is delicious! The price is right for the type of food you order. They have a variety of food choices in the menu. Kids and older kids menu is a plus. It was my grandson's fourth birthday. Thor was awesome! And very funny! Definitely recommend!! And he was very nice. Matched sarcasm

I wasn't expecting an all out experience like you would get on a Friday or Saturday night, but I also wasn't expecting such a miserable lunch. The restaurant was basically empty, but was still seated in a weird not themed table, more like one just kinda shoved against the wall. Our waitress was generic as all get out. Not really more than a cape. When other "characters" walked by my son would say hi or wave only to be ignored by every single one. The food was awful. AWFUL. At this point I just wanted to pay and get out so I left everything after paying the tab. So disappointed, I have so many fond memories of it being so magical as a child. I was really hoping to share it with my kids. Honestly, they should just shut down instead of doing such a poor half assed job. The best part of the whole experience was the super unenthusiastic balloon artist. Seriously. read more

Me and my family love this place, we recently visited for our second time. The wait is never long the food portions are huge for your money, not to mention delicious. The drinks are to die for. They have a cute little drink called Magic Potion and it's one of they're many cute things they do. All the servers dress up and they're always so peppy and nice and the entire restaurant is themed! Ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and it was a very watery tasting margarita with little flavor. The half rack of ribs with fries were hot and fresh. The ribs I was expecting to be barbecued ribs (which is what they say they are.) were not from a barbecue pit at all. They tasted exactly like ribs that were cooked in the oven. It also had too much sauce, and that sauce tasted like the cheap 1$ brand bottled sauce. Fries were just your typical frozen fries. 1 star for the food being hot and fresh. An extra star for Thor our waiter for being an amazing waiter always keeping us company, asking if we needed anything, and making us laugh. I would not come here for the food, but only for the entertainment. read more

Don't bother to go on a Friday or Saturday night unless you get there at 3:30 if you are 10 people because they only have two rooms for that size. After waiting 2 1/2 hours from getting there at 4:45 we still were not seated when they only opened at 4:00. read more

The food was great, perfect animated people in costumes! But it's very ghetto, be cautious of this place! Food was thrown at us the entire time while we were eating at our table, children ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. The manager Mark was no help, all he said was sorry for the inconvenience and it is a nuisance that people cannot control their own children. Just beware if you eat here! I thought this would be a great place to eat being that we are not from Dallas! read more

I really wish I had read the Yelp reviews before coming here. One of my good friends and her son came in to town and I thought this would be a fun experience for them. I hadn't been since I was a kid, so I was excited too. First I'll start with the good. The wait wasn't too long, our waiter Luigi was friendly, and the guy doing caricature drawings was fantastic(the only reason they're getting one star). Let's move on to the bad. We walked around the restaurant and it's pretty clear that they haven't done any recent updating. I get wanting to keep the history of the building preserved, but the place needs a serious deep cleaning. Now let's move on to the reason I will NEVER go back. While we were at the table I kept thinking that something was touching my foot. At first I thought it was my friend's son's shoe lace since we were sitting pretty close. I decided to have a look under the table because it was really bothering me. We used our flashlights and found a large cockroach crawling on the floor. OH HELL NO! I stepped on it with my shoe and pushed it from under the table, so that we could show our waiter. He said he would send a manager over. Our waiter comes back a while later, mind you the roach is still on the floor, with our check. We still hadn't seen the manager. My friend finally decided to to up to the front and talk to the hostess who also said she would send the manager over. We wait again and FINALLY the manager comes over. He tells us that they just sprayed and spray regularly and this happens sometimes...excuse me? So you have enough of a roach problem that this happens regularly? He took one of the entrees off, but I honestly feel like our entire ticket should have been comped. I'm not usually one too complain, but they seemed way to nonchalant about it. Eat at your own risk. read more

I heard a lot of great reviews so we brought my 11 year old here for his birthday. We came early on a Saturday (around 3pm) so we did not have to wait long for a table. We got a plain table by the entrance to the bar / beverage area. Our server was the riddler so he told my son riddles through out dinner which he enjoyed. The seating was tight and not one of the funner tables but It was ok. As for the food I have had way better and way worse. Nothing spectacular. You pay for the atmosphere not the food. About $15-$20 a person on the low side. Good to experience It once but will not go back. read more
