As soon as we walked in, my kids (ages 4, 7, 10, and 12) immediately said, "Mom... where are we?!" Within seconds they were completely captivated. They saw the school bus, looked up and spotted Mario on the ceiling, and instantly started spotting characters everywhere. Before I knew it, they were pulling out their phones, FaceTiming friends, taking pictures, and exploring. And mind you, these are kids who have been to top-tier theme parks their whole lives. There was something about the simplicity, creativity, nostalgia, and the commitment of the staff that completely won them over. I had to round them up 3 or 4 times just to remind them, "Guys, we still have to actually order food!" We arrived late on a Saturday night (around 9:30 PM, close to closing), and I honestly expected tired energy, but it was the exact opposite. Every staff member stayed in character and kept the magic alive. We met Wednesday Addams, Thor, Beetlejuice, Fairy Godmother, and our server Loki, who was fantastic. My son's favorite was Luigi, and that alone made his night. Both of my older kids said they want to have their birthday parties here. Of course we ordered the potion drinks. Five people, five different colors, and the dry ice effect was the perfect touch for the kids. The mac & cheese was unavailable, which was totally understandable since we came so late, but everything we ordered was good. The spinach artichoke dip was amazing. The chips were phenomenal, and this is officially a must-order for me every time now. I also ordered the half rack of ribs. They were good, although I was hoping they would be a little more fall-off-the-bone. The kids had chicken strips, pizza, and chicken Alfredo, and everyone was happy. The salad car was a fun touch too. I especially liked the potato salad, pasta salad, cucumbers, and olives. One small suggestion. It would be fun if the salad car had a little more "magic," maybe some lights or a glow effect to match the restaurant's vibe. Bathroom note. One stall wasn't working, and they were out of toilet paper when we went in. I told the staff, and they fixed it immediately and thanked me for letting them know. That kind of responsiveness matters. I also learned this place has been around since the 1970s, and honestly, you can feel the history and character everywhere. We missed the photographer that night, and the upstairs was closed, but I heard there's a magic show and bar upstairs, so now we definitely have to come back. We spent a little over $100 with tip, made amazing memories, and left with four kids asking if we can come back every Saturday. Some places are about perfect food. Some places are about perfect memories. This place gave us both. The memories were absolutely a 10 out of 10 for our family, and yes, the food was delicious. If I had to rate the food honestly, I'd give it about a 6.7 out of 10 overall. The standout for me was definitely the spinach artichoke dip, which I'd rate an 8 out of 10. A few bites were a little chunky and chewy, but the flavor was still so good that I'd absolutely order it again. We'll definitely be back, especially for dessert next time! read more

The fries tasted like standard frozen fries you could buy at any grocery store. The bread didn't arrive until the end of the meal, and to make matters worse, it was wrapped in a napkin instead of being served properly. Even the butter tasted like it had just come out of the freezer. One of our plates was dirty, which completely ruined my appetite. The only bright spot was our waitress. She was kind, attentive, and genuinely did her best despite the condition of the restaurant. She deserves credit because she was working in a very difficult environment. Overall, the poor upkeep, lack of cleanliness, uncomfortable temperature, and disappointing food made this one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. Steak was overcooked. I asked for medium and it came out like beef jerky, I'm not over exaggerating. The professional photographer asked me if I ordered it that well done and I said no. I would have sent it back but the AC was out throughout the whole restaurant. It was miserable. I just wanted out of there, we didn't even eat the cupcakes WE brought cause it was hot and they were melting. We went as a party of six for my friend's birthday and I felt like I let them all down with the food and atmosphere. I've been there several times before and always had a great experience. It would have been nice to know the AC was out when I called about reservations, the SAME DAY. The waiter ("Thor") was very nice and attentive. Pros and cons: We arrived at 6:25 Saturday night knowing there would be a wait. When arriving we were told an hour. We stood in line to have the kids face drawn. We were there about 45 minutes waiting because he had a long line of people. No problem. I got a text at the end of that 45 minutes saying they were unusually busy and that it would take 2 1/2 hours instead of an hour. I immediately went to the front desk and asked if that was correct, and I was assured by three different people that it was their Yelp app that it was incorrect. So reassured we went upstairs to the magic show, we wasted money in the arcade room, which was just claw machines and we waited an additional 35 minutes in order to get one drink at the bar because there was no bartender and then there was a long line once they did come back. At this point, we were over an hour and a half in so I went back downstairs and asked and I was told that it should be about another 15 minutes.. long story short it took 2 1/2 hours in order to eat in. Obviously, there was something wrong because people that were after us by significant amount of time were already eating their food before we were even sat. Then when we were sat, we waited for the young girl that was dressed up like Andy off of Toy story to come even take our drinks for another 25 minutes. We patiently waited so my daughter could experience what I got to experience as a kid. Frustrated already we immediately gave her our drink orders and appetizers. Bar drinks took about 30 minutes to get. And we had asked to go ahead and place our order. From start to finish we were there over four hours and 10 minutes. At the point of leaving, I asked for our ticket. She said she would return right back. So my husband and daughter got up and walked out. I sat there patiently waiting and after 20 minutes, asked for somebody to get her. I did not see her walk around at all as I was standing up. She finally came back after 35 minutes with the ticket and me asking three different people to get her. She apologize for her lateness ran my card and I left. I would love to share that our experience was great, but it was far from that. This place is absolutely disgusting. The tables are sticky, the carpet is old and run, there's fans blowing air everywhere because they have terrible circulation in there. The place smell smells like musty mildew. This is not the time magic machine that I remember as a kid. As for the food, my husband got the chicken Parmesan and it left flavor and the noodles were hard. They were not cooked properly. My chicken tenders or blah no flavor. The french fries were ice cold. My daughter's cheeseburger was cold and the cheese would not even melt. The artist there is very talented. My daughter did enjoy the drawing ten dollars per face and the magic show which is an additional three dollars per person. The bar drinks were terrible. All and all I will never return in. This is not the same place as when I was a kid and they have done no renovations. I'm surprised that they haven't had the health department actually come in and shut them down to make them do repairs. Me and my bestie celebrated her birthday here today and my late birthday and we had a blast. Thor and Beetle Juice were our favorites but Wednesday was our server and she was really cute too! Pretty gross experience. Came here for our nephews (3yo) birthday dinner. First and foremost, we barely recognized a single character there? I remember coming back in the day with plenty of well-known princesses and superheroes to delight the kids. The only two characters we recognized this time were Luigi and the pop punk Spider-Man from the Multiverse (Hobie), who was our waiter. Hobie was actually an incredibly kind and attentive waiter, but that's about where my positive comments end. The ac was clearly out, the whole place was hot and stuffy and they had a bunch of fans pushing hot air around. The salad bar was gross, had limp lettuce and a gnat buzzing around the food. The silverware was splotchy and unclean. Asked for a booster seat for my three year-old and the only two options they had were either a small cushion that slid through the hole in the back of the chair or a plastic booster seat that was too tall for his legs to still fit under the table. That's not necessarily anyone's fault, but still unfortunate. The most unappetizing thing was the girl with dyed hair who was wearing nothing but a bra and mini skirt with drawn on swirly "tattoos" and a very obvious hickey on her chest. This is supposed to be a place for children, I have no idea what character she was supposed to be but I would have been disgusted to have her wait on our table with all the children. Overall the place felt unclean and unkept. Food was fine, basic, a little bland and overpriced -- but edible. I loved this place as a kid, but I will never return again. read more

First, let me start by saying the hostess, the artist in the front, and our server Starfire were both fantastic. The kids thought Starfire was so funny. I would've given them 4 stars for service. That's where the good ends in my opinion. The ambience is old tired and looks like it hasn't been changed for 40+ years. For example, the doors to get into the bathrooms, have huge worn spots on the wood from people pushing their way in for decades. To be fair, they have upgraded with current superhero characters so they're more current with what kids will know. Our grandkids loved that aspect. And the man who is doing character chair portraits in the front is exceptional. He has a great personality and does really nice work very quickly. A refresh of the venue and significantly better food for the adults would seem to let this place make more money. The kids' potion drinks and the adult drinks were OK but too expensive. We got off to a bad start on the food with the appetizers. The stuffed mushrooms were OK but heavy sauce on top which disguised much flavor other than the sauce. The calamari was simply terrible. Worse, there was a piece of metal fried into one of the pieces of calamari that I ate. I brought this to our server's attention and she apologized immediately and said she would talk to the manager. The manager never showed up to apologize, so our server apologized for him. Frankly, that's not acceptable. They did take the calamari off the bill, but frankly they should've done more than that. I could've broken a tooth easily or a filling. Finding that chunk of metal changed the entire mood of the table for the rest of the evening. Everyone was a little nervous eating anything after that. Next was the salad bar, which was surprisingly fresh looking ingredients and pretty good dressings. The lettuce looked a little tired. It made me nervous after experiencing the calamari with metal and reading all about the risks on bagged lettuce at restaurants these days, which this lettuce must have been. The kids' cheese pizza was thick and not good. These kids usually eat everything on their plate and there was a ton of pizza left. The corn on the cob that came with it looked old. We noticed brown spots that we would've never used at home. Ears with that on it would've been tossed at our house. The fries that came with their meals and the adult meals did not have a good flavor based on whatever they were fried in. Similarly for the fried shrimp and the fettuccine. Fortunately, no one got ill. The kids loved the characters and smokey potion drinks, but frankly, I'm not going back after what I experienced. read more

My in-laws were visiting from out-of-town, and a friend had recently recommended the Magic Time Machine. Our experience was an absolute delight. Our waitress was Tinkerbell, and she was so much fun! And Luigi had my husband in tears from laughing so hard after a brief interaction at our table. The balloon artist is a true artist who holds multiple world records. And we were delighted by the magic potions and the Salad Car. Our food was delicious as well. This restaurant is not for folks who take life or dinner too seriously. We took our two boys to Magic Time Machine tonight to celebrate my youngest's 7th birthday, and it truly was nothing short of magical! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere completely pulls you in. The restaurant is so creative and unique--tables inside school buses, lunchboxes, crayon boxes, and more. It's such a fun, immersive experience, especially for kids (and honestly, adults too!). The food itself is solid--classic American options that taste great. Nothing over-the-top fancy, but everything was good and satisfying with no complaints at all. The real highlight for our boys were the "potion" drinks that fizz and bubble like magic--such a fun and memorable touch! But what absolutely MADE our experience was our server, Count Dracula. He was phenomenal. From his look to his full commitment to character, he took the entire experience to another level. His energy, interaction, and engagement with our family (and the whole room) were incredible. He stayed in character the entire time and made it so immersive that you truly forget he's playing a role. He alone was worth the hour-and-a-half drive--we would go back just for him! I see that this place has mixed reviews and I get it, it is not for everyone. However, my kids loved every minute of it, which makes it A-OK with me. Yes, the common theme of many of teh reviews is that the place is run down and needs some upgrades. Yes, that is very true, but it works. The restaurant has a huge private parking lot and a very large dining room. Many of the booths are themed such as a bus, a carousel, Mario Brother, a space ship, The Great Pumpkin and many others. We were seated at a plain booth. We should have requested a themed one. The restaurant has many characters running around including Shaggy, Ariel, Harley Quinn, and Batman. We had Deadpool as our server and he was awesome. Very funny and kept the littles engaged. He was also attentive and friendly. All meals include trips to what they call the salad car, a salad bar on a car. The restaurant also has a ballon guy come to your table to make ballon animals for your kids. He works for tips. There is also also a caricature person at the front of the restaurant that will draw pictures for you. They are $10 a picture. They resturant serves special drinks called potions that bubble when you push dry ice into them. You can get them with an adult beverage added in, if you are of age. I highly recommend them. They were fun and really neat. The restaurant serves ribs, steaks, salmon, burgers, pasta, fish and shrimp. For the littles they have pizza, and chicken tenders. I ordered the burger with fries. and my littles got pizza. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our food. My food was ok. The burger did not have real bacon and did not taste fresh. Neither did the fries. It was edible, but I have had much better. Either way may kids had a blast. They loved the characters. They both got ballon animals and they asked to come back. If my food was a bit better, this would have easily been a 5-star joint. I would still return here in a heartbeat. This is a fun and unique spot and I highly recommend checking it out. read more

Roman Orgy.... and this restaurant caters to CHILDREN!! My 6 year old son and i got to the restaurant and sat down, everything was going fine and i picked up the menu and right in the middle of it, it said Roman Orgy "for 4 or more people". I went to the manager and tried to talk to him about this and how wrong this was and disgusting, he just looked at me and told me to take it to corporate. We live in a society that is accepting of grooming and P*dos, its disgusting if you are a parent and bring your child to this place you are exposing them to things a child should not be exposed to. I brought my son here after the Minecraft experience once and then I brought my man here for his birthday and they both love marvel characters so it was nice to have that theme. The host sat us in a boring booth at first, but I just moved us to the Mario mushroom because I know my man likes Mario Bros. People saying this place is more for kids than adults but it really just depends on the person. There's plenty restaurants nearby that don't offer the same unique server experience and ambiance that this place does- Go there, But the Disney and marvel characters and themed booths are what make this place special. Of course the food is overpriced and not Michelin star worthy but who's coming here for the food more than the experience? NOBODY! They brought a cake out and sang a quick song. All the personalities and characters are funny! If you have a horrible sense of humor you shouldn't come here because you won't appreciate what's happening. It reminded me of Dicks last resort! I can't believe I'm leaving 4 stars but we just had the funnest dinner. The place needs a serious scrub and carpet replacement desperately, but if you can overlook the ick, everything else was good. The half and half combo (chicken and ribs) was tasty and huge. The salad car was super fun and everything seemed fresh. The bread was hot and toasty and really good. Atmosphere: The restaurant has a very dusty/musty smell that hits you as you get seated. The carpet is disgusting and run down with various spots of extreme wear and ripping. The different themed sections are fun to look at and the kids enjoyed walking around the restaurant looking at the different themes. Food: Was average at best. Burger was okay nothing special. The salad bar was delicious. The kids cheese pizza is a super thick pizza that my daughter took one bite and didnt touch again. Service: The server was fantastic in engaging with all of us and stayed in character throughout. She was the shining star of the evening as she made it very fun. Service was slower than expected and it took a long time to wrap up the evening with the dessert and the bill. The restaurant wasnt busy so that could be improved. I came here once as a kid 20 years ago and always thought it was the coolest place ever. Tonight I brought my wife and son for their first time ever and it's even better than I hoped. I don't know if getting some new carpet and a few other little things in there would actually help or hurt the look. I went to MTM to celebrate my birthday. I wish we had gone on a weekend instead of a week night. Our server did a good job playing Forest Gump. Seating was easy during the week. But, with going during the week when it's less crowded than the weekend, you lose out on the volume of fun character-to-character interactions and the crowded energy, which is where the personalities really come out. I found pricing reasonable for the quality and volume of food, but my chicken parmesan itself was mediocre. Chicken was great but the pasta was crunchy, like it had been left out in the air overnight. My husband loved his burger. This is definitely a place to bring a kid, one who's old enough to understand character building and personality. As an adult, I had a hard time eating with the musty smell inside the dining room. Cute and fun place to take the kids- they are always excited to visit. For me it's too expensive for the type of food served but it's mostly an experience for the kids here. Also most people are celebrating somewhere here. Food is okay but not the best. Waiters are always in character which makes this place fun for the kiddos. read more

What a fun time at Magic Time Machine. We had lousy service from our lady bug !! But a friend in from out of town enjoyed the Tiki Hut and food. Lots of kids enjoying their birthdays and if service was moved towards those who pay the check, they would be able to make it another 10 years in Dallas area. As an adult we want our drinks refilled, dirty plates removed and attention to condiments. We had none of the above. Which is sad because the atmosphere was fun and the food to our surprise was yummy. Tiki hubby had the stuffed blackened prime rib and we tried the sirloin & shrimp all was tasty and cooked to order. Drinks came soooo slow and so did service, especially since not busy on a Wednesday night. I have been coming here since the 80's for events please give the adult parties as much attention as the kid tables with good service or you will not be here for years to come. We've been to the Magic Time Machine in San Antonio and had wonderful experiences! We had to be in the Dallas area for my daughter's surgery so we came a few days early for some fun and came to try this Magic Time Machine. Our experience started off with disappointment when we were told we couldn't get on the waitlist online or over the phone but had to be there in person. We have two small kids so we were hoping to do something else to keep them busy while we waited. We needed a table for 9 and knew it might take a while. Then while waiting we decided to go inside. It was so hot with no air flow. We waited an HOUR past the wait time quoted. We would have left except we were already there (since we had to be to get on the waitlist) AND this was specifically for our kids. Also, there was a large poster advertising the online waitlist . We kept getting the run around on seating. Then when a worker overheard us saying we had been waiting two hours they found us a space with two tables instead of 1. At this point we just wanted food and a cooler location. Our seats were in a slightly cooler part of the restaurant but it took some fanning of menus and frozen drinks to get us cooled down. The food was great. The fairy godmother was fun. And the rest of the experience was fantastic. I wanted to leave a 5 star review here like I did for San Antonio, but I just couldn't after waiting 2 hours. We will go back to SA, but I don't know if we will be back to this location in Addison. read more

It's total filth. Gummy carpet and gross from the front door all the way through. Believe me.... I walked to all of it and took my whole party right back out the front door. It's such a shame because it was epic when our children were young. We won't go back. read more

My husband and I brought our son for the first time on Sunday evening. We had Dracula as our server and he was PHENOMENAL. I really think he made our whole experience. My son is asking when we can go back and is calling everyone "humans" as he lurks around the house. :) We had the mozzarella sticks and they were really good. The salad car was fresh with lots of options. My son and husband had steak and ribs and loved it. I had the alfredo shrimp pasta - I was not a fan. Overall, I would recommend this place if you've never been. We grew up going here, so getting to take my son was such a joy. He loved his potion drinks, got a balloon figure and they still do the fun table side pictures. read more
