If you're into medieval times and game of thrones,, this steak house wins you over on ambiance alone!! The interior is draped like a castle with long drapes, shields, swords, sand even a full set of armor in the foyer that you are allowed to take photos with. They'll even let you hold a sword. There's a gentle giant who goes by Tiny who was super friendly and pleasant. The executive chef walks the floor and speaks with everyone insuring that your steak was made as ordered as well giving insights to other special events the restaurant has, and our server Brooke was by far THE BEST server in the room. That's not to take away from any other server. But I am bias;? Brooke was amazing. She was pleasant, she made our special day even more special. And I don't know where she found a fresh red rose from, but she did!! Top notch service!!! I'd give her ten stars if I could But let's get to the meal. Appetizers were shrimp scampi and crab cakes. Entrees were short rib rigatoni and 12 oz filet mignon, served with a side of macaroni and cheese, baked sweet potato, and sourdough bread with a tomato bacon jam. The tomato bacon jam, and I hope I'm getting that description correct, had this peculiar savory sweet taste that just worked! I can't wrap my mind around it but it was delicious!! Baked sweet potato was just as advertised. Nothing overly special but I like sweet potato so I was happy. Mac and cheese was very cheesy but it didn't stand out amid the dinner. Shrimp scampi was savory and had some really large shrimp. Portions for everything were ideal!! The short rib rigatoni was creamy with tender short rib. Very well done!! Crab cakes were served with a cream sauce that was creamy and refreshing! But the star, was that 12oz filet mignon!!! Ordered medium, it came to the table perfect!! Seasoned by a culinary specialist and seared with the precision of a gourmet surgeon, I didn't want the experience to end. Oh, what an experience. High-end, fine dining. Dark as a medieval dungeon with matching charm in there. Unacceptably dark, even when my party and my eyes adjusted. (Though my friend's wife sat in a spot subject to occasional blinding from the front door opening.) The tables were gigantic. Unacceptably huge. Table conversation was notably affected because they were awkward to talk across. What's the point of good, wood tables, when they make the communal eating experience worse? (Though, if my party and I were a foot taller, each, that might not have been an issue.) Onto the food: Deviled eggs. Mediocre. Lox is not a strong enough flavor to stand out against a properly seasoned deviled egg. The wagyu was okay, but I honestly believe only a strong, seasoned bacon can cut through. And by that, I mean regular, American bacon. Like on a regular deviled egg. Complementary toast and bacon jam: Lovely. No issues. Shrimp scampi: Well-seasoned. Not overcooked. Fair. Old fashioned. The drink I ordered. Very tasty. Aromatic bitters. Mildly disappointed that my ice cube wasnt clear. If this is a surprising complaint, check the menu prices. I think it's absolutely fair to expect a respectable ice cube or sphere at this price point. I ordered a delmonico steak. Didn't like it. I vaguely wish I ordered something with more marbling, but considering the wagyu, tomahawk, and wagyu costing at least 3x more, I think I was stuck ordering that. Or maybe I should have got the 3oz wagyu. But what proper, healthy resident of the great state of Texas orders a 3oz steak? There must be a law against that. And I don't want to be arrested for something easily avoidable. Service was mediocre. There was some confusion about who refilled our drinks. It was a busy evening, though, so I don't consider that a negative point. Opinions from my party: Elk: Small and pitiful portion. No char on the steak. Almost absent of salt and pepper. Heavy reliance on the sauce, which is not how ordering a steak is supposed to work. Also, it was reported: not good. Side dishes overall: My party complained that they outshone each main dish. Maybe the line cooks were on point that night while the executive chef was out working at a different restaurant. Filet mignon: Salted only on one side. Seasoning undetectable on the others. My good friend's son (14), I believe, ordered the chicken. It rested on a... unique sauce, the flavor of which, we identified as cardamom. He said the taste reminded him of bubble gum. Bubble gum is not a flavor that belongs in fine dining. Cardamom is an accent flavor, not a main one. If anyone can recommend me a fine dining bubble gum establishment, please message me. Maybe I am severely uncultured. But until then, that is my strong, personal opinion. Also, he said it was not good. Desserts: Mediocre. Burnt some steel wool as a show. Fire is cool. I can NOT recommend this place to anyone. At THIS high a price point, I expected so, so, SOOOOO much more. Seriously. I've been to high end steakhouses in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, this or that Manhattan or Venice or whatever beach, and this is the WORST embarrassment of an establishment I've ever been to in my life. I especially hate it-- *loathe* it because there's a host of other Texas steakhouses at the 60 dollar price point, (rather than the 200!!!!), that would serve a demonstrably and undeniably tastier meal, with a better eating experience, that DO NOT REQUIRE A DRESS CODE. Visited Primal for brunch. I had not heard of it before and was wondering what I had gotten into when I saw the dark gothic decor. We were greeted very nicely by our server Talia and she broke down the menu which was a 2 course meal plus pastries and fruit. They give you lots of options for the price. We came here for a friends birthday last night and had mixed experience. There were a few bumps in the road, but we give major kudos to how the situation was handled. The food was good overall and everyone enjoyed what they had. (2 filets, a Delmonico, and a short rib). All were tasty. Three meals came out together and the fourth was cooked wrong so it was refired before making it to the table. We appreciated that it was noticed and corrected by the staff. One of the three meals was incorrect. I ordered the short rib and the server brought the short rib pasta. The manager Brandon questioned it as I had talked with him about it before I ordered. Once he noticed it, they immediately corrected it. It was tender and delicious! The atmosphere was fun. Very dark inside but that is part of the vibe. It was fun to play with the swords and armor. The service was overall good. We were greeted by the manager Brandon and the hostess Brooke. They immediately set the tone for a fun night. They were playful, yet professional and had great personalities! Our server Grant did not have a great table side manner. It wasn't bad or rude, it just did not match the energetic greeting we started with. The birthday girl is gluten free and the server did not take the time to explain what items were or could be made GF when asked. The server basically said, I'm not ready to take order yet. That said, she could not decide on her meal because she didn't know what she could order. She decided on a filet and was happy with the meal. When the server said he was bringing the birthday dessert, I asked if it was GF. I don't recall what he said but he did bring a scoop of vanilla ice cream along with their normal birthday dessert. I felt like he would not have done that if I had not asked, but I can't say that confidently. It seemed he needed to be reminded repeatedly about her gluten allergy. Overall we had a good experience with a few bumps. Those bumps were handled promptly and professionally by Brandon and Brooke. We will likely be back for another try in the future. While they may have been prepared from a rack, the presentation and portion didn't match what I expected based on the description. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but between the service, food, and lack of a memorable birthday experience, it didn't quite meet my expectations. Primal Steakhouse, The Colony: A Vegas Concept That Falls Short My boyfriend and I visited Primal Steakhouse on a Friday night, excited to try the Las Vegas concept that recently opened in The Colony. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. The medieval-themed décor felt more like Medieval Times Dallas than an upscale steakhouse. Service was okay, and our waiter was attentive throughout the evening. The food was hit or miss. The complimentary bread was overly oily, and the tomato spread was unexpectedly sweet. We ordered the crab cakes and it tasted like frozen. The wedge salad arrived with blue cheese crumbles but no dressing, leaving it dry until we requested dressing . Our steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and was good. The sides, however, were disappointing. The mushrooms lacked flavor, and the mac and cheese was bland. We also tried the chimichurri, which came at an extra charge and was far too acidic for our taste. The table setup felt awkward for a date night, and the live music lacked the sound quality needed to create a lively atmosphere. Overall, while the service was okay and the steak was good, the restaurant lacked the wow factor you'd expect from Las Vegas i. I came here with my husband for date night. As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by staff members and taken to our table. They have live entertainment and I totally loved the medieval aesthetic of the place. You will definitely feel like you are dining in a medieval castle making it romantic and absolutely perfect for a date. Now let's talk about the food. It was absolutely amazing. All of it!! First they bring you complimentary Texas Toast with bacon jam and that alone was delicious. For our appetizer we had their crab cakes and those were pretty good. For my meal I ordered the Delmonico with fries and a caesar salad. That steak has been one of my favorites steaks I have eaten in a while, so tender and flavorful despite my well done preference. Fries were perfectly cooked and the salad was decent. Dessert we picked the chocolate cake and that was the perfect item to end dinner. They also have themed cocktails which I had to try. I had Mother of Dragons and Viking Punch. Both of them delicious but my favorite was the Viking Punch, plus is served in a Viking horn. The service here was phenomenal. Our waiter took great care of us and on top of that management would check on us regularly to make sure we were having a good experience. A few nights ago we went to Primal Steakhouse in The Colony. Its their second location with Vegas being the first and that one has great reviews. Having great reviews for a steakhouse in Vegas NOT on the strip...... We had high hopes. The menu isn't very large and several of the items were not available. The story was there was an influencer that showed up a few days earlier and posted something on social media and that caused the food items not being available. Since they had just opened in Feb we figured growing pains. It's loosely based on Game of Thrones. The decor is very medieval in a good way. It's dark and romantic with only flames as lighting except the glaring open door to the kitchen. It was my wife's birthday and everyone knew, staff members. My wife started with a drink called "The Red Wedding". It was delicious! Everything was very good except the steaks. They were not great. A lot of grisel. And OMG the dinner took forever. It started at 6:30 and we were leaving at 9:30. 30 minutes between courses was ridiculous. As we saw other people come and go, we were anxious and pissy by the end as we wanted to come home and have a birthday bonfire. As stated earlier, it was my wife's birthday, we saw others receive the birthday dessert with candle served with other desserts. After waiting about 20 minutes for our peach dessert to be delivered, that wasn't, I asked to speak with the mgr, Brandon. Brandon never came to the table, he sort of vanished from the floor and we explained the frustration to our server who we had to ask where our dessert was and ask for the birthday dessert. 40 years in customer service, if a client/customer ask to speak to a mgr and that mgr does not make an attempt, we have issues. We ordered the crap cakes for an appetizer (3/5). For dinner I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and hubby ordered the 16 oz prime smoked New York steak and mushrooms (5/5). I meet a friend that is a fellow yelper at Primal Steakhouse for happy hour. I was glad to get the invite because I hadn't heard about the place and it's close to my job. The ambiance is a dark moody medieval castle type feel. It's casual and welcoming. We arrived early for happy hour at 4:30pm and went to the bar. We were served by Hailey. She was wonderful explaining the drinks and they all came with a show. I decided to go with the drink similar to a smoky old fashioned, kings elixor. I enjoyed the smoky part of the presentation of the drink and the flavor that it left in the drink. It was strong and tasty and the perfect spin on an old fashioned. They served Texas toast with a roasted marinara jam sauce. It was delicious. I wish they would have brought a second serving of that. We got the crab cakes and the garlic shrimp. I thought both were ok but both could have been spicier and more flavorful. I think either could have taken a Cajun or more garlic spin and set them off. We decided to visit for my favorite HOUR. They offer great HAPPY HOUR specials on appetizers and cocktails. It was a pleasurable time. My HAPPY HOUR experience was so AMAZING! I was feeling happy and satisfied. Once I got use to the idea of dark and dim lighting. I met up with my SOUL sister a fellow yelper to share the NEW experience. We sat at the bar and ordered appetizers and cocktails. The bartender was GREAT. Hailey was so friendly, helpful, fun and polished. She also makes some of the best DAMN DRINKS! Her customer service skills are on point and her drink making skills are perfect. The drink presentations are FIRE! Definitely theatrical and photo/video worthy. I was impressed with all the drinks and presentations. Up first was the Viking Punch and it comes in a cool Viking horn glass. It's a mix of Ketel One Peach Orange Blossom, Black Infusions Apricot, Sour, OJ, Cranberry, Absinthe. It was FANTASTIC! Next was the Kings Elixor which has Bourbon, Cocktail & Sons Spiced Demerara, Lemon Bitters, Woodchip Smoke Infusion. It was DIVINE! My favorite was the RED Wedding Cocktail! It is made with Ciroc Limonata, Pallini Limoncello, Lemon Juice, Raspberry Puree. Down right heavenly and delicious. YUM! Honorable Mention is the Sangria. Presentation is cool with the fire, but this drink is STRONG. It's not your average Sangria. For food we tried the crab cakes first. They were tasty and full of crab meat. I appreciated that the crab cakes weren't full of fillers and had actual CRAB. It came with two sauces a mango salsa and a spicy dip. Next we tried the shrimp appetizer. The shrimp were HUGE. They lacked in flavor though. I didn't care for them. These need a revamp something is off with the sauce and seasoning. We also had some soft toast with the most scrumptious tomato bacon jam. The jam was smoky and unique. It was different, but really good. All of the staff were friendly. We met the manager and chef. They were all nice and welcoming. I had a wonderful time and will be back for drinks and to try an entree. They passed the testing phase for me. Wishing them much success! New spot just opened and we were ready to try it. We had been keeping an eye on it and finally made it in. I arrived a little early and there were a few guys waiting ahead of me. I'm not sure if there was some confusion, but I wasn't acknowledged at first. Thankfully another staff member came over shortly after, got me checked in, and was very kind. From there, things definitely turned around. I was seated first, and our server was incredibly polite and welcoming. They started us off with complimentary bread and a tomato jam that was a really nice touch and honestly delicious. Once my friend arrived, we ordered the bone marrow appetizer. It looked beautiful when it came out, but there wasn't much marrow to actually enjoy. It was a bit dried out, so while the presentation was great, it didn't quite live up to the price. For my main, I went with the Delmonico steak. It was a generous portion and definitely on the pricier side. It was cooked well, just not as flavorful as I had hoped for. The side sauces were a nice addition but for an extra charge. We also shared the lobster Mac and cheese- very rich and luxurious- $25, large bowl of it. Buttery, cheesy and divine. We wrapped things up with the peach cobbler. It was decent, but the peaches could have been softer to really make it shine. Where this place truly stands out is the service. Multiple staff members checked in on us throughout the meal, and everyone was attentive, friendly, and professional. The space itself is also really nice and has a great atmosphere. Primal Steakhouse has been going strong for 16 years in Vegas, but it is new to The Colony since January 2026. The gimmick is pretty cool with a viking theme. There were heavy swords and helmets up front where you can take pictures with them. The dripping taper candles gave the place an eerie feel. The drinks are cleverly named to match the theme. We had a variety of food and would come back to try other items. Here's my opinion on the food and cocktails we ordered: Emerald Serpent - If you like spicy drinks, this is the one for you. It'll give you chills up and down your spine. Viking Punch - This drink was fun - bubbly (possibly nitrogen or dry ice?), strong, and slightly sweet. I felt like a real viking drinking from the Gjallarhorn. Sourdough Toast and Bacon Jam - The absolute best part of the meal!! I still cannot believe the bread is sourdough because it was light, airy, and perfect. It tasted like a heavily buttered Texas toast. Is it really sourdough?? Yum! The Bacon Jam was good with it being slightly sweet. Ceviche - The fried plantains were nicely seasoned but clashed with the subtle fish ceviche. The ceviche needed more flavor - more salt, more lime, more of a kick. Lobster Bisque - The soup was extremely salty so I only had a couple of sips/bites. The lobster chunks were decent and the bread was good. 16 Ounce New York Strip (ran out of 24 Ounce Dry Aged Strip) - It was cooked perfectly medium rare, but the cut itself wasn't the most tender. Baked Potato - It was topped with REAL bacon and not bacon bits so that was a delight. It could have used more course sea salt on the outside. Brussel Sprouts - This was a fantastic side and I highly recommend it. Get your serving of veggies in, people! Risotto - I thought it was creamy, but the flavor was interesting. Not my favorite but my companion liked it the most. Bourbon Peach Cobbler - I liked the pecan ice cream but wished the cobbler had more dough sprinkled on top. The brown sugar was very present. French Macaron - It was a pink and green capped macaron (thought it would be watermelon flavor) but tasted like banana. Yum! The highlight of the night was the staff. I called to notify them we were running late for our reservation and they were accommodating. The hostesses were polite when we reached the host stand. Our server was spectacular as she checked up on us multiple times though it was obvious she was busy (packed house on a Saturday evening). Everyone helped out clearing our table including the manager. We were honest about the Lobster Bisque being too salty and they took care of it. Didn't expect it but that was a super sweet gesture. I received my steak but nothing else with it. No one at my table had anything yet. And so on until we had everything. I will say the smoked steak was good flavor wise but the cut was chewy in multiple places. I'm not sure if I got some tendon or what...and I received it on the Luke warm side. It was cold by the time everything else was served. I was surprised they charge $62 and not one side comes with the steak. I wouldn't buy the bone marrow again.. or the French onion soup. It was okay. The short rib was good, mashed potatoes were great. Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite. Brussels sprouts were great. It was my birthday! They give you a bite size birthday treat. It was awful tasting. I ordered two desserts. I had two different employees tell me their butter cake was the best. I ordered that and their lava cake. I'm not a picky person but it was really not pleasant. Dry and little flavor. Slightly sweet very dry cornbread with a couple berries on the side lol. I was surprised anyone would recommend that. Or maybe they just needed to sell it. The lava cake is advertised as homemade so I was excited but that wasn't great either. Edible at the least. No one ate the butter cake. I think this place has good potential and maybe they are working out some kinks with being fairly new. The guy they had playing live was phenomenal! We got the new york strip with the mash and the filet mignon with the pepper risotto. The crust on the new york was insane, and it was cooked perfectly; likewise for the filet. The highlight of my night was my roasted pepper risotto, so creamy and flavorful, wow! Didnt get to try the drinks but they looked great, I was jealous of people drinking out of a horn.. Would I recommend Primal Steakhouse for a small family dinner? Absolutely. The food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is really fun! However, we recently tried to celebrate my husband and daughter's birthdays there with a party of 12, and unfortunately, the large-party policies made the experience much more complicated and honestly absurd than expected. We were told we would need to place a $150 deposit, which I completely understand. We were then told there was an $80 minimum spend per person, regardless of age, that had to be met before tax and tip. I can absolutely understand requiring a deposit for a large party, and I can understand applying a higher gratuity for a group of this size. But requiring an $80-per-person minimum before tax and tip, on top of the large-party gratuity, feels excessive. This is especially difficult for families with children who may not need an $80 meal, as well as elderly family members who may regularly split meals due to medications that affect their appetite and make it difficult for them to eat a full meal. Unfortunately, these requirements make it very difficult to have a family celebration with 10 or more people. So while I would still recommend Primal for a smaller family dinner, I would definitely encourage larger parties to review the policies carefully before making plans. I am especially disappointed because my family was literally the first family to ever register for and partake in their brunch and the owner was absolutely exceptional! I have a feeling he is not aware that such restrictions are being placed, which are encouraging loyal patrons to seek celebrations elsewhere. We came here to celebrate my 25th birthday (aka my quarter of a century ) and it ended up being such a fun, memorable experience--especially since we were already in our medieval era for the Renaissance Fair! Ambiance The decor was really nice and fit the theme well--nothing over the top but still very thoughtfully done. The lighting was perfect too: dim enough to feel cozy and atmospheric, but you could still actually see your food (which I appreciate lol) Entertainment They had a live singer and she was absolutely lovely with such a beautiful voice! She sang a mix of older songs and newer ones, and it added so much to the overall vibe of the night! Food & Drinks The food was great across the board--everyone in our group of six loved what they ordered. Dallas has a new steak player in town, and the experience was primal. The ambiance was that of a medieval castle - dimly lit (with real wax candles), a little intimate, and a bit entertaining. I see this as a place you could take a date, a family, or a party. I was part of a bachelor party. I got my palate started with the French onion soup. For my steak, I chose the 12oz Capp steak. The quality of the steak was top notch and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I selected a baked potato for my side and my mind keeps going back to the smoky pieces of bacon in it. Our server was attentive and the overall service & experience met my expectations of a high-end dining establishment. I even got a bit of a chuckle when I got to select my steak knife. I had the opportunity to dine here on a Saturday night with a group of 4. The waitstaff did a great job the hostess on duty was very welcoming. I ordered the seafood gumbo, the smoked NY steak with brussels sprouts, and the Oreo tiramisu. The gumbo was tasty; unfortunately, it was very watery as if they were stretching it, but the steak made up for it, as it was very satisfying, along with the Brussels sprouts. I can only assume the tiramisu is their interpretation, as it came in an elegant presentation glass and was very loose, as if it had not had time to settle. It tasted like melted ice cream. it was very tasy but one again not what i expected. All in all, it was a good meal. I had seen that this place had recently opened its doors and couldn't wait for an opportunity to check it out. We ran the gamut from appetizer, soup/salad, entree, sides and dessert. The service was top notch and the food delicious. Most of what we ordered came presented table side either smoking or on fire The capp steak was succulent and melted in our mouths. The deconstructed banana split was inventive and fun (who doesn't like a scattering of gummy bears on their dessert? The service was top notch. The only area for improvement that I saw might have been a process that the people bringing food to the tables would know who ordered what and didn't have to ask when they got to the table. My husband and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Primal Steakhouse, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely exceptional. The staff was attentive, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had a great experience. It's rare to find service that feels this polished yet still warm and authentic. Our server Steve was absolutely incredible and recommended amazing dishes! Now let's talk about the food. It was incredible. We both ordered steaks, and they were cooked perfectly. Not just "good," but exactly the way a steak should be done. Both cuts were thick, plump, and unbelievably tender. Every bite was flavorful and juicy, and you could really tell the quality of the meat was top tier. I've seen a few reviews mentioning that the price point is high for what you get, but I completely disagree. When you consider the quality of the food, the preparation, and the outstanding service, the pricing feels justified. A great steakhouse experience is about more than just the plate in front of you, it's the entire experience, and Primal absolutely delivers on that. Fair warning though, they do it "Vegas style" meaning there is a 18% service fee NOT INCLUDING TIP. So be fair to warned of that. I don't think that will blow over well here in Texas but nonetheless, just be aware of that. Another thing I appreciated was that the menu has options for everyone. Whether you're a serious steak lover or just looking for a great meal out, there's something you'll enjoy. What makes it even more impressive is that they've only been open for about 25 days (give or take). If this is the level they're already operating at so early on, I can only imagine how great it will become as it continues to grow and settle in. We will absolutely be coming back, and I'm excited to watch Primal Steakhouse grow into what I believe will become one of the standout dining spots in the area. This was our first time going to Primal Steakhouse. Service was good not great. But okay. Our server Steve had no personality. The atmosphere was loud as a roadhouse and the chairs were horrible and uncomfortable to sit in. The $77 bone in ribeye I ordered medium was a tough as a shoe. My baked potato had been sitting in a warmer to the point of gumminess. It was not eatable. The 4 sprigs of asparagus for $11 Summing up the disappointment, I do not recommend this steakhouse. We will not be back. $255.42 dinner for 2. Waste of hard earned money. They have a lot of improvements needed to keep up with the surrounding Steakhouse competition.
