Delicious! We three arrived early on a Saturday evening without reservations. Although they were almost filled, John Carlos sat us in a lower level lounge, corner table- jokingly referred to as the "VIP table." Very comfortable. The whole place is very comfortable. We ordered menu cocktails and then an appetizer and three entrees. Each item had its unique taste. Papas bravas are addicting (Careful! Don't fill up!) Then chef sent out an amuse bouche- a taste of soup. Cappalletti- wild mushrooms, pecorino, & egg. The monk fish with mussels & mushrooms in a red sauce so good, I cannot describe it adequately. And lastly, the chicken with a sauce that is also too good to describe. Get co-owner Steven to tell you about the multi-day process to make it. Don't think twice. Probably the best brunch I've ever had. The cornbread was simultaneously tender, sweet, savory, and had the most delightful punch of jalapeno. The ceviche was so flavorful with the mix of nutty sunflower seeds, chili, coconut, and lime creating so many beautiful textures and flavor combinations. The french toast was light and airy (seemed like it was made with Japanese milk bread) and the caramelized bananas were wonderful. The pork collar was tender and appropriately fatty with an excellent bun and the pineapple, sauce, and peppers bringing some freshness. Even the papas were also delightfully crisp and smoky. Wow, every single plate I had here was excellent. The menu is definitely an homage to seasonality and all of the ingredients were elevated and harmonious and perfectly autumnal. I was just walking around Greenpoint looking for a place to eat when I noticed the dinner tables by the big open windows. The restaurant seems to be well set up for a well-ventilated indoor/outdoor dining experience. I wasn't in the market for a tasting menu with a wine pairing, but after trying a few dishes here, I'm confident I wouldn't have regretted the tasting menu. The truffle gruyere croquetas were super crisp on the outside with a creamy interior. The beet salad was plated beautifully with all kinds of fascinating textures from a cheese crisp to puffed grain bits, citrusy foam and multi colored beets. The rubataga soup was a sleeper hit. It had these soft-roasted delicata squash nestled in a creamy and flavorful rubataga puréed soup with fried brussel sprouts leaves as a topping. I loved the contrast of textures. The kurobuta pork came with a stuffed pepper and a stewed plum - mmm! The meat was juicy yet had a crisp, almost candied exterior. 10/10 would recommend and come back. Brunch review ONLY: Stumbled on this restaurant and wanted to try it because it looked super cute! Then my mom wanted to try it for brunch (I'm assuming she was interested in the souffle which seems to be dinner only) Anyways, we did the outdoor dining option and this is nothing on the restaurant but the corner seat furthest from the restaurant HAS THE MOST FLIES. The store front right next to that table looks like they leave garbage out there and the garbage drippings just stay on the floor and the flies love it. The whole entire time I was there, I was being terrorized by flies :( and I know it's not the restaurant's fault but it just made me have a terrible experience... I had to swat them away every few seconds Oysters - we did happy hour oysters (6 minimum) they were pretty good! Clean and fresh! Beautiful presentation. ($2 each during happy hour) Croquetas ($10 during happy hour/ $15 non happy hour price) - 5/5 these were amazing!! They were small fluffy balls of pure goodness! They had a slight truffle flavor but nothing too strong! I would totally recommend. Cornbread Madeleine were a solid 3.5/5. They had chunks of whole corn kernels that gave it some texture but I would have preferred it to be completely smooth Burger- 2/5 I realized that they never asked us for a preferred level of cooking or maybe we forgot to tell them but it came out super well done. The meat was dry and essentially felt like a hockey puck between bread :( the wedges were alright but the burger wasn't that special.. Side of bacon - can't go wrong with bacon! Agnolotti - 5/5 this was amazing compared to the burger, it was delicious and warm. Very comforting. Tbh the only why I would consider returning. Brunch left us unsatisfied but I would consider coming back here to try their dinner menu! If I could have given 10 stars I would. Where do I begin. From the moment we walked up to Madre, which is located in the lobby of The Franklin Guesthouse, we were treated like family. This sheik restaurants ambiance was very inviting and made us want to stay all night hanging out enjoying drinks. The menu here is not a big one but it is an impressive one. We literally tried almost everything on the menu and each item impressed us more and more. The cornbread Madelines were amazing and complimented w a honey butter. The Castelvetrano olives were perfect for picking. Now let's talk about Croquetas all I have to say is OH MY GOD. You could literally eat addicted in just one bite. The black truffle complimented the gruyer and exploded w flavor w every bite. Absolutely amazing dish. My wife and I love oysters and these were some of the best oysters I have ever had. The charcuterie board had lady Edison ham which was very good but the food gras and chicken liver moose were absolutely INSANE. Bravo guys this hit it out of the park. Now onto main courses. I'm a huge fan of grilled octopus and this was some outrageous grilled octopus. So tender it cut w a fork and the sauce they used w it was fire. The chicken was incredible and as per the chef takes 5 days to make. The Kurobuta Pork was also another home run by this very talented crew. Everything that came out of that kitchen was a culinary masterpiece. Chef Bryan also made us a tremendous US Wagyu Bone in ribeye. This was the evenings grand slam. This was the ultimate closer to an already amazing meal. Like I said everything that came out of the kitchen was made w love and pride tri masterpieces. Let's talk about service. The service was great. The wait staff was excellent. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Very attentive you didn't wait more then a few mins for a drink and always within an ear shot if you had a question. Food came to the table for n a timely manner the place isn't very bug so I'm sure that helped but still very good service. Our bartender was also a true master of her craft. Returned to Madre last night for a double date. Debated on doing outdoor dining because the weather was perfect, but opted for indoor. It ended up being the best of both because they have big windows which were opened letting in the fresh air. Servers were attentive and super knowledgeable. They offered great recommendations. The vibe was perfect. Tables were spaced nicely, music great and at perfect level. The food continues to be incredible. Come with an open mind, try as much as possible, and don't skip dessert. My husband brought me here for dinner to celebrate my birthday, and this place stole my heart. My husband had left his mask in the car, but the hostess made sure to give us one before we entered. The entire restaurant was maintaining covid protocols, all staff were masked up. The tables were distanced way more than 6ft with outside seating available. The menu was exquisite! After so many reels recommending their brunch, I decided to give it a try. Let me start by saying I was sadly not impressed by their French toast. I recommend to order a la mode to add some moisture because is super dry on the inside. Having said that - everything else was good! We ordered the dry aged burger which was superb! I've been to burger spots who don't get medium temp - this was perfection all through and so delicious. I would go back for the burger for sure. I did not take a picture but we also ordered their black truffle croquettes and the cornbread Madelines which were favorites. I did not like their sweet potato agnolotti - I can't really put a finger on why but I'll just leave it at sage is not for everyone. The service was good; some of the teammates were nice. We should have known when they did not want to define what type of cuisine they were. A vague "we have a pan Spanish-Latin inspiration but trip around the world is what we do" was very unsatisfactory. We nevertheless went by the reviews, likely from overly bored and privileged gourmands that have nothing better to do, and had dinner here. Not a single dish created a flavor experience or stroke an unusual note that any run-of-the-mill bistro of the cheapest NYC neighborhood could. This is hype as its worst and then some. We started with $10 worth of pork rinds with Cheetos powder that they called chicharrón and then it when from there to their mediocre end. Nothing was bad but everything was mediocre except for the price tag. Absolutely awful place because it does mislead with a fine dining experience and has nothing to show up for! HEYOOOO MA(DRE)! So... My wife had been talking about going to MADRE for weeks and when we finally made it over I had the same reaction I had as when I moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn... "WTF took me so long to come here..!" If you're someone that loves an explosion of different tastes that keeps you saying "omfg this is so good!" over and over again, this might be your new favorite restaurant... You can'y go wrong w/ anything on the menu, BUT please get the croquetes and have them in 1 bite, don't cut them up. Get one or both of the chicken liver and/or the foie gras (if you're with 3+ get both!). We got the chicken & the pork... Both were insane. We took half of the pork home because we were too stuffed and the pork on day 2 out of the fridge was equally, or maybe even more WOW in the mouth. Get the cornbread madeleines. Didn't take long for a few waitresses to gather with the hostess to discuss which guests they liked and didn't like. For the price of the food, you don't get much in terms of quality. There are better Tapas places to go to for much better food. Came on a busy Friday night, dining room was packed and it was definitely loud and hard to hear the staff. First thing I asked about was the soufflé and our server was very kind to reserve one before I even decided on my main courses. The food was unfortunately disappointing. Everything was incredibly salty, felt like I had two days worth of sodium in one meal. Heard great things about the fluke ceviche but found it too overpowering and salty. The sprinkle of chips on the side became soggy quickly. The tile fish was ambitious in its pairings of black lentil, fennel, buttermilk, harissa and mint but nothing worked in harmony. Each component was a salt bomb on their own and the greens were not enough to balance it out. Even the buttermilk was surprisingly salty. The madeleines were heavy and unremarkable and you guessed it...salty. Most disappointing part was the soufflé, which was banana and horchata flavor. I thought it was undercooked, but perhaps I was wrong to think soufflés should somewhat hold their shape. Like the table next to us commented, it looked like soup after eating the top layer. Our server explained soufflés are supposed to be like that but kindly offered another dessert. We declined and she ended up taking the charge off the bill. Returned of our 2nd visit since 5 months ago. This time was at a Sunday dinner after the busy New Year season. One would think a new eatery would fall off its initial high quality after its big bang start in 2019!!! To our surprise, its management and chef continued its pursuance of high standard of quality in food & service. My review this time is about the services we received from initial front check-in to the post dinner survey by the manager, Jose Carlos. With us arrived and hold for a quick table setup, we were greeted with attentiveness on coat check. Then arrived our hostess, Georgia, a bright smile pleasantness that started our evening. We decided to have Georgia in creating the evening menu for 5 of us in celebrating a birthday. Continued with its complement soup in opening our palate, next comes 2 different fresh salads. Started off with a dozen New Brunswick oysters, followed by 3 appetizers: scallops, croquettes, japanese squash & octopus. We were served with 3 main entrees, grilled chicken (PERFECTION MOIST!!!), cap ribeye steak (melted in mouth perfect) & a fish dish! While the food were served, both Georgia and other staff kept attending us with changing plates and utensils. At the tail end to our dinner, we were pretty stuffed with all the great dishes. Georgia & the pastry chef continued surprise us with their famous souffle (Concord grape) + a range of sweets to a perfect dinner. Throughout our dinner, Georgia continued of her charming smile in interacting with us, which made the dinner experience more charming! Last, their operating manager, Jose Carlos stopped by to survey on our experience and satisfaction of the evening; which emphasized their focus on customer experience and satisfaction. Had an absolutely fantastic dinner here on Saturday night. Service was exceptional and everything was delicious. Not one plate went back with anything still on it. There were six of us so we got to try a ton of different things and I really don't think I could pick a favorite. Off the top of my head, the croquettes, chicken liver mousse, oysters, madeleines, steak (a special), chicken and a soufflé dessert with a black sesame sauce were just ridiculous. Our dining experience at Madre was nothing short of spectacular. We began our meal with The Critical Beetdown: a unique, refreshing cocktail, elegantly garnished and perfectly mixed. Now, for the food. Where to begin? The croquetas were savory and rich, complimented beautifully by the arrangement of fresh heirloom beets. The scallops delivered a unique and awakening flavor, and the octopus was grilled to perfection. By the time our steak arrived we didn't expect anything to top what we had eaten, but we were wrong. The ribeye was cooked to perfection, served with a sweet and savory sauce that paired immaculately. Hands down, one of the best steaks I have ever had. What really defined our dining experience at Madre was the service. The staff was attentive, welcoming, and friendly, creating the atmosphere of a dinner back at home. Amazing - get the ceviche and the agnolotti. that ceviche was scrumptious and something special

Visiting Brooklyn for the first time after a dozen or more visits to Manhattan, we were obvious about our intentions; eat, drink and be merry. So, we found a great neighborhood, Greenpoint, and took a rest at the Franklin Guest House (4 stars) and meandered our way around Brooklyn for our first time. We opted to stop at Madre, which is connected to the Franklin Guest house for happy hour cocktails and appetizers. The cocktails were amazing. I ordered the Green Slipper, green apples and snap pea's, it reminded me of my breakfast green juice, with a hit of Gin and wife had a Pocket of Primrose, with mezcal, hibiscus, orange blossoms, vanilla and egg white and half & half. Watch the show after ordering that one. Both were smooth as glass... Cape Cod oysters were next and were as fresh and delicious. We just returned from 2 weeks on the Cape and two more in Maine, so fresh oysters are special treats for this midwesterner. Because we assumed we were only staying for happy hour, we also ordered the Croquetas (amazingly light and melted in your mouth). But--- After seeing the buzz beginning, we decided to stay for dinner, and boy are we glad we did. It was AMAZING. We fussed over what entree we should order, and were helped by two extremely nice ladies at the table next to us. After some small talk we learned she (Miki Agrawal) is a writer, and an owner and developer of a restaurant, Wild, in Manhattan, and this was her favorite place to eat in the neighborhood. Look her up, she has an amazing story and we're lucky to have been seated next to her and her friend. Thanks Miki for welcoming us to NY and helping us with our food choices! Back to the food.... We ordered, after seeing the Fluke Ceviche on the next table, and thanks to her recommendation, it was perfect. Yes, so perfect every ounce of sauce was finished after the fluke. It was the best ceviche I have ever experienced, and I love and order ceviche- a lot. After another recommendation from Miki, we opted for the normally 'boring' Fried Chicken, over potato salad and with salsa verde. The chef visited the next table and shared his unbelievable (yet very believable) 3 week effort from the arrival of the chicken (head on) to the blanching, to the drying to the cooking method he uses. Outcome = Perfect fried chicken. Perfection. The Charred Brussel Sprouts were fab with maple syrup and fish sauce. A perfect and unique sweet and salty mix! But, as fried chicken takes a while and we were slow to order, the chef sent us an order of Agnolotti, an eggplant, tomato and parmesan treat that in itself, we'd be over the top. Every bit was greeted with an 'oh my' or 'that's great' as we sampled the chef's creation. He also sent over the Cornbread Madeleines, gratis, because "they go so well with the Chicken" our server offered. And speaking of the servers, I am so impressed with this new generation and their love for food, drink and helping patrons be so well informed and happy. Kudos the all the servers at Madre and to Clark, thanks for making our evening special. You'd think, well, that's enough, but no. Here comes Chef Bryan Noury again, he pulls up a chair and asked us if we enjoyed our dinner. "Chef, we've been here for 3 hours, the food is amazing, the wait staff is best of class, this place is a fine-oiled machine." We loved every moment! "How about a glass of champagne?" he offers. And we sat for nearly another hour talking food, kids, food, golf, food, his amazing wait staffs and life. Chef Bryan is amazing. His staff loves their work. His bartender is top of the class. He molds them into a perfectly run restaurant. This is most likely the second best dinning experience I've ever had. First place still goes to Emeril's in New Orleans in 1993, a few years before he was discovered... That, Chef Bryan, is honored company! We went to Madre for Valentine's Day and a month later I am still dreaming of this place. Quite simply, it was one of the top five meals of my life. Everything sounded yummy, so as usual I over-ordered. We had croquetas, octopus, carpaccio, foie gras...all outstanding. My brioche toast was hard, but to be fair they warned me to eat it while hot and I was too busy stuffing my face. We had lobster tortellini in a delicious coconut/lime broth so good I drank it out of the bowl. The veal marsala was huge and had all the right mushroom umami goodness. It came with cornbread madeleines and honey butter and was even better for lunch the next day. But I'd say the real stand out was the "raw bar" plate. It wasn't raw at all. Each element was a perfectly composed seafood dish. There was razor clam salad, uni, an oyster, scallop, crudo...and in the center what looked like just a normal tin of caviar. Inside was the caviar and creme fraiche served with tiny homemade English muffins. A little touch like that makes you feel loved by the chef. I would eat this dish every day for the rest of my life. The service overall was wonderful, but the sommelier in particular was incredible. He was very knowledgeable, made perfect pairing recommendations and I could listen to him talk about the history of local wineries for hours. We stayed so long the restaurant had cleared out by the time we got our dessert and so the chef sat with us and flambeed our Baked Alaska right at the table! Just a magical evening. My only complaint is I wish they would put some of those specials on the permanent menu so I can go back and enjoy them again. read more

Visited Madre last night with my husband, after seeing @SisterSnacking's rave TikTok review of the place. And I have to say, it did not disappoint! For drinks we ordered Bring Me a Shrubbery (NA) and a rum cocktail with toasted coconut shavings along the rim (it isn't on the online menu, but I recall it had "Bravado" somewhere in the name), and both were very good. For apps and dinner, we shared the fluke ceviche, cheddar chicharron, papas bravas, cornbread madelines, octopus, and tile fish. The chicharron was underwhelming and similar enough to the standard pork rinds you'd get in a bag at the deli, but everything else was 10/10, absolutely divine! As for dessert, we were treated with complimentary chai creme brûlée, which was delicious, as well as the seasonal banana soufflé that comes with a black sesame sauce and strawberry ice cream. I did not particularly care for the soufflé, but my husband practically licked the plate clean. If you decide to order the soufflé, I'd recommend doing so at the start of your meal (which is what we did) because it took quite a while to come out after finishing dinner. The couple seated beside us ordered it at the start of their meal, at the same time as us, and they got there's well after we finished ours, forgetting they had even ordered it since it took so long and they had already asked for the check to leave. Tonight was mine and my husbands first night living in greenpoint - we were looking for an amazing restaurant in the area and saw that madre had great reviews and a very thoughtful and unique menu. We decided to give it a try and we had the absolute BEST experience - it far exceeded our expectations and was one of the most special dinners we have ever had - thanks to the amazing food and staff. They treated us like family - we met the general manager Giancarlo and the chef who came to our table and introduced themselves. Armando was our waiter who took the time to get to know us and explained all of the ingredients and components of the dishes we were served. We ordered the bravas, market salad, octopus and the pasta dish. We also tried the vegetable soup and the banana soufflé which was incredible, and had a great drink which was the perfect balance of every flavor. 10/10 experience and we will definitely be back. read more

I went last night on a Saturday to meet with a friend. Before going I checked for reservations, but there weren't any available for my time, so I thought to myself, no problem. I can wait at the bar and take it from there. Just like I would in any other establishment in NYC. The bar was empty and I asked if I can sit anywhere by the bar. The bartender told me to check in with the hostess first which was weird. The hostess then didn't appear to want to sit me without a reservation and asked me to wait while she got her boss. As the second hostess came in, she said I'm sorry but we are unsure if you can sit. Just as she was saying that, two couples walked in. Instead of finishing in assisting me, the hostess asked me if I can step to the side while she attends to the new arrivals before continuing to help me. I thought to myself...How rude! How complicated! How unfriendly! So I said sure, but left instead and met my friend in a restaurant around the corner who received me with open arms and friendly energy. Something MADRE lacked tremendously. I had a drink waiting for my friend. Then we had a great time eating dinner at the bar and ended up having a nice evening. MADRE had an open bar with plenty of room, yet they chose to treat me like I wasn't good enough to be in their establishment and treated me like a second class customer. That's not how you treat someone who just moved into the area. For as long as I live here, I will avoid this place for their unfriendliness. The food is good. Nice decor. Staff is attentive. Only issue is it smells like a pool in there. Smell is a huge factor while eating, it was hard to ignore. Thought it might have been a one time thing, but I walk by this place a lot & the scent of chlorine is always there. Would go back & eat outside. read more

Is the G Train problematic? Yes. Should we let it hold us back from good eats? Absolutely not. I recently visited @madre_nyc , a contemporary restaurant in the lobby of a boutique hotel in Greenpoint and was pleasantly surprised by just how delicious the food was. Admittedly unpretentious, MADRE is the quintessential, trendy neighborhood spot that aims to offer the Holy Trinity of hospitality: quality food, warm service, and a relaxed casual ambiance. From top to bottom, the food here is very well done and lives up to the restaurant's mission of offering elevated comfort food. For me, all of their small bites were impeccable from everyone's fave Croquetas, i.e., plush fried gruyère balls with sumptuous black truffle, to the undefeated Foie Gras Torchon, which was giving lush, buttery, rich goodness spread on a perfectly toasted slice of brioche bread, and to lastly the most precious, melt-in-your-mouth Cornbread Madeleines with a side of whipped honey butter. The Market Fish, accompanied by light seasonal vegetables and an herbaceous sauce "américaine," had a nice crispy skin and was an ideal entrée choice after fairly rich starters. Finally, the Strawberry Soufflé, with all of its theatrics, was a bit bland for my taste not gonna lie. I'm generally disappointed by soufflés though, since frankly I have a bias against light, airy pancake-adjacent desserts. Overall, I am placing MADRE in the cutesy date spot bucket. Exceptional food, service, staff. This is my 2nd time here and it did not disappoint. Happy hour was an added bonus on top of all the good food. Can't wait to be back when it gets a little warmer again so we can sit outside again. read more

Disappointing, we were a party of 4 adults and 3 children at brunch for Mother's Day. Very limited menu. I ordered the Pork collar sammy, big mistake. My bun was burnt black and it was just over cooked and tasteless. Please don't serve burnt food it just demonstrates how non caring a chef and restaurant are. The croquettes were mushy and bland. Our table ordered a variety of the menu. We all shared and each tasted great. I will say I would certainly come back for the mock tail we ordered, the fluke ceviche (truly all our favorites if we came back and had to order only one dish)- it's a mixture of flavor, and the soufflé. You can't go wrong with anything there but depending on your taste preference you'll certainly feel what speaks to you. We ordered the corn bread Madeline's (comes with four) and we each had one. They're served warm and the butter is divine. Highly recommend that! I'm a huge fan of octopus, though I don't think I would order it again. Ceviche definitely my number one here. The fluke was amazing! Honestly didn't want to share. The octopus was still tasty but it's best for those who like a more BBQ and crispy tentacle. I think a squeeze of lemon would have done the trick for me. The sauces on the plate were delicious. The pork was savory and the sauce sweet. Loved the part of the meat toward the fatty area the best. The stuffed cabbage was a nice addition. The agnolotti was fantastic, I recommend taking a spoon and scooping up the sauce with the ravioli and eating all at once. The flavors are seamless. For desert we tried the pot de creme (veryyyy thick and rich, I personally wouldn't order again but if you love a thick chocolate that's extremely rich, you would like it- for myself I'm used to a more "fluffy" mousse like pot de crème so this was not what I was expecting). The Calamansi sorbet was phenomenal ( I enjoy tart/tangy flavors), definitely a must try. The soufflé was warm and melted in my mouth, the mixture of the ingredients and taste was divine. The chefs know what they're doing! (Read some 1 star reviews: just want to say our experience was great but I do understand how some dishes might undershine others, so order a variety. Market Salad was very simple but it was nice to share and cleanse palette before other dishes arrived. Our group is from Greece, UK, and NY - and we landed here on a whim because I saw an image of the ceviche. I didn't read reviews prior. I usually order ceviche in America and find it quite bland or unthrilling. This place you can't go wrong, it's done differently than anywhere else. I do understand how not enough timely waiting on a table could affect the feel- it did take a bit to get orders going but if you have good company then you'll be ok. Perhaps they just need a bit more staffing- but basing the review on the food- great. We also enjoyed our waiter who was kind and friendly but clearly jumping from different tables.
