We decided to stop in Richmond while on the way to NC, and picked the perfect spot. Lulu's was delish! There is plenty of parking near by. We felt safe as they do follow the Covid guidelines! The restaurant does accept reservations but you may walk in as well. We stopped in mid day on a Friday, there wasn't a wait but there was a good amount of people dining but still 6 ft away from the other tables. The staff was pleasant and very nice. They worked together to ensure their guests were accommodated. The food was soo good! My boyfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros with crab, I had the lobster biscuit (think like a Benedict--more so English muffins than a biscuit but still very tasty!) with a side of grits, we shared the red velvet waffles and a pitcher of the peach mimosas. Everything came out timely... we were in and out. We finished all our food (I didn't eat both "biscuits"), we were full and satisfied. First and foremost: Book a reservation, especially for weekend brunch. I visited with my mom on a whim earlier this month and we got lucky. They were able to fit us in for a 2:15 pm slot, which translated to about a 45-minute wait. My fault for not checking in advance. Bar seats are first come, first serve, but I didn't see a single person budge the entire time we were there so don't count on that as a backup. The hostess was super friendly and kept us in the loop with our seating status. We were seated at a table right around the time she said. I ordered their peach mimosa, which came in a pint glass filled with ice and was quite tasty and fruit forward. Their whole brunch drinks menu looked awesome and I would definitely branch out on future visits. For my meal, I chose the chicken and biscuits (which is apparently a top seller). My mom teetered between a few options, but then the server led her to the chicken and biscuits too, which I knew would be too much food for her (and it was). And in typical fashion for my mom, she requested the gravy and​ honey on the side. Unfortunately, ​my dish came out looking just like hers. When it did, I told the server I didn't request nor want any modifications. Her response was to tell me to simply lift the chicken, pour the gravy, put the chicken back, and pour the honey on the chicken. Her tone and comment seriously rubbed me the wrong way. All she had to do was apologize, take the food back, and have the kitchen do that. Please don't punt that to me; I came to a restaurant to avoid food prep. Once I did set up the dish that way, I noticed it was low on gravy. She took so long to come back that I had to hail down another server to get some extra. At that point, ​I stopped interacting with her and let my mom do the speaking. A group of 5 of us went to check out this spot for a late brunch. We all ordered different food and ordered a Bloody Mary and two different pitchers of mimosas. The drinks were all great! Almost everyone was elated by there food but one in our party said there food wasn't good at all and the gravy that came with it was congealed. I'm not sure if it was because we were dining on the later side for them but even still that isn't okay. All and all I'm glad I tried it out and if someone suggested going here I would but probably wouldn't offer it as a suggestion myself because of that. Great brunch spot with a well deserved good reputation! The food is fantastic! Their menu has a variety of delicious versions of classic brunch items. Try the red velvet waffles just cuz they're amazing! We got some to share with the table, but there were so many good options we had to order other things for our meals. All our meals were well prepared and yummy. The cocktails were ok. I was a little disappointed in them, but they do have a good variety of options. Their decor is a little bizarre with antique doll art. It's a little creepy and apparently done by some local artist. I can't say it added much to the place, but it was a conversation piece as we sat and looked at the things around us. I didn't feel like it matched the name or vibe. Where do I begin? We arrive at Lulu's and see a ton of empty seats but we're told that there's at least a 40 minute wait for brunch. We get it and roam the area until a seat is ready. We continue to stand there only to be told we were supposed to follow this lady to our table which ended up being a plank at a window overlooking other people eat outside on the patio. Sighs...We ended up eating at the bar instead. Now the part that matters most, the food. This place is supposed to be known for their red velvet waffles. If they are, it isn't in a good way. I ordered the chicken and waffles which comes with scrambled eggs and then I asked for a side of sausage. My guy got the Atlantic omelet. My entire plate came out late and damn near ice cold which they quickly addressed but the chicken was unseasoned and the waffle was thick and bland. It was just poorly mixed flour mix with red food coloring in it. The only thing good on the plate was the seasoned hash and sausage gravy. Oh my $5 side of 2 sausages never came out either. Yeah $5 for 2 links. Let that sink in. If it wasn't for my brazilian mimosa, this place would've gotten just 1 star becausr of the lady at the bar's customer service. The hostess where AMAZING are reservation was at 12:15 but we came early and the got us a table at 11:45. Our server name was Whitley and she wasn't friendly at all she did come and check on us but it wasn't friendly. Then to top it off she had the NERVE to follow us outside and ask us "hey guys was everything okay with the service. " and she said that because our bill was $55.28 and we left her a $3.00 tip. To my surprise, I could basically order the same entree minus the massive amount by getting a side of gravy, a biscuit and a fried chicken breast. The gravy was delicious!!! Super creamy and flavorful, with a little spicy kick to it. I loved it, but the amount they gave was disappointing. It wasnt even enough for half of the biscuit. The fried chicken was seasoned well but it was a little dry. The biscuit was good. I like that they toasted it a little so it was able to hold up against the gravy and chicken. Now when it comes to reservations, they have got A LOT to work on. We had a 12:30 reservation but didnt get seated until 1:05. There is absolutely no where to stand, so everyone is just squished into a tiny little area where you can see the stress on the hostess' faces. It was heartbreaking to see people continuously going up and getting an attitude with this poor girl over and over again complaining and acting like they were the only people with reservations still waiting to be sat. It was giving me SO much anxiety being stuck in a crowd with such a bad energy and sour puss faces. This was my first time here so I dont know if that's how they normally handle reservations, but if so, they could avoid a lot of pissed off people by not overbooking reservations! It's been a while since I've been to Lulu's, went for my birthday and totally forgot about all the delicious items on the menu and how willing they are to accommodate any special requests I got the Crab Florentine, which was not on the menu, the server recommended it to me. Once the food arrived at the table we had no utensils and waited to try to get someone's attention, Finally someone from my party went to the hostess and asked for utensils, by then the food was cold.....I still dove in and ate like the food was nice and hot, my only other issue was I had a little crab shell as well as egg shell in my food, but that didn't prevent me from completing my meal (I guess it was my birthday surprise - an extra crunch - JK). LuLu's is a great spot for brunch, but I am sad to say it may have lost a bit of its charm the last time I went... and that's because of the food. We had a reservation for 7 on a Sunday at 10:45am. We failed to let them know we had two infants in tow. The hostess was very accommodating and helped make it work in no time. The restaurant was fairly busy, but still a good amount of tables available. I did not catch the name of our waiter (tall, dark brown hair with a beard... I know that may not help), but he was really efficient and kind. I ordered a jalapeño Bloody Mary and it had the perfect amount of twang and spice to it. I went with what I normally order for my entree which is the Shrimp & Stone-Milled Pimento Grits with a biscuit. Our food came out in no time and it all looked delicious. I wish I could say the same as to how my food tasted. It seemed a bit bland. My boyfriend who had the chicken and biscuit, says that everything tasted the same from the potatoes, chicken, gravy, biscuit as if everything had the same seasoning.
