I've been to this place a few times and I meant to to take the pictures but I accidentally deleted them so just settle with the two pictures I have while I talk about them lol but anyway here's my review of Village Cafe: Service 9/10: I don't have much to say about the service but the staff were pretty friendly and helpful. Inside 8.5/10: The inside has this chill and calming feeling but the booths feel a little bit small and tight but overtime I didn't mind. Food 10/10: And here we go. For the appetizer I ordered Pizza Cheese Fries and they were delicious and my Calzone was cooked amazingly well and cheesy. From my previous visits I ordered a Steak Burrito, Fried Chicken Club, Italian Sausage Sub and a Country Fried Steak with Eggs and 2 pancakes. Every single item was cooked to crispy and savory perfection. Overall, this is the perfect place for Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner and I highly recommend. 9.5/10 read more

Cute decor nothing fancy- Literally a diner with great energy and an incredible staff. Asked the server what were some of her favorites and this was a suggestion. Great sandwich and the spicy ranch that came with the onion rings was amazing. You could easily share the sub with someone but I did not and no regrets. We were hungry and in the area and decided to come check them out. We had to pay to park because it was street parking with a you better park and pay sign. Once inside, the place is very narrow, but it was packed. Looked like a local favorite. We sat at the end towards the right. They had a cozy little area with a few tables. Just be aware that the music speaker is in that room. Our waitress was very nice. She took our orders right away: 2 Reuben sandwiches. One with fries and the other with coleslaw and 2 coffees and a side of thousand island dressing. Food came out quick and the sandwiches had great crunch and flavor. I've been looking for a new neighborhood breakfast spot and I was excited to try the Village Cafe. The vibes here are great, it's cozy, well decorated and warm. I always order a standard breakfast of eggs, toast, hash browns and sausage, and for $10.50 it's not a bad deal for a local joint. The toast and hash browns were delicious however the sausage was dry and eggs came out cold. It also took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive which was disappointing. I was so famished after taking the train into the city, but I stumbled upon this late-night spot that had pescatarian options. I wasn't in the mood for anything too heavy, so I went with my favorite buffalo chicken sub with fries. The best part ... all subs can be made into wraps! I was thrilled that they had honey mustard and buffalo sauce, which made my decision even easier. My beau ordered the Salmon Pesto Pasta because he saw the large portion. Unfortunately, his dish was a bit dry. I was REALLY upset that my order was wrong, as I had asked for a wrap instead of a sub roll. I HATE sending food back, and at that point, I was feeling pretty hangry and ready to go. The staff was very accommodating and offered to fix my order, but I was hesitant to send it back. I trusted them the first time to get it right, and now I had to take a gamble that I didn't offend the kitchen staff when it was sent back. I think that's something that restaurant staff tend to forget. I struggled to get through it just to take the edge off my hunger. While I wasn't completely satisfied with the bartenders, I asked if they could give my boyfriend a shot for their F-UP, and they did so without hesitation. This place could not be more perfect. If you are searching for vibes look no further. Food- 10/10 Service-10/10 Ambiance- 200/10 Sausage was fire. Our server, Reilly, was giving really cool energy. This VCU staple has been around for years, not because of good food nor reasonable prices, but because it's convenient. Just went for dinner with a group of moms & students to less than stellar meal. We stopped in here for late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately in a cozy wooden booth for two. Waiter quickly brought us waters. Menu and drink menu were available in a box built into the wall. The place had a lot of personality -- one of the reasons husband wanted to go there was its long history. It was noisy in there -- had a beautiful tin ceiling but noise echoed. I ordered the chicken burrito bowl and husband the Italian sausage sub. Mine was a super Americanized version of a burrito bowl. It had peppers and onions like would be on a Philly -- heavy on the onions. Very basic salsa. Husband loved his -- sausage, peppers and onions with a red sauce. Fries were good as well. I wish I had gone with my first instinct and ordered breakfast. Waiter was a little hard to find to get our check. Did not order alcohol but I was impressed that their drink menu listed all draft and canned beers with sizes and prices which many restaurants don't. First time here! I have a goal to try two new restaurants a month and I saw this place on Yelp. Finding parking can be a challenge but once we got there we were greeted and seated immediately. The place is super casual which is fine by me. The menus at my table were super sticky so that was gross and annoying. Third menu was the charm. I ended up ordering the fried chicken club (i think that's what it's called) and my husband got Reuben. Food came out pretty quickly. Our server was nice. I got their lemonade signature cocktail and it was almost good. It reminded me of a melted slurpee and was a bit to syrup forward for me. Chicken was extremely thin and a little dry, but the bacon was well cooked. Fries were yummy! Husband said the Reuben was okay, same for the cobbler. Prices were reasonable. I got chipped beef on toast with fried apples asmr they were so yummy, right along with my pomegranate ginger beer mixed drink (can't remember the name, sorry lol). Needed a breakfast joint after staying at a nearby hotel. Internet pointed us here. Really liked the woodwork and the beautiful bar. Someone needs to take some care of the houseplants on the windows. I dusted off the pothos and the spider plant up front. (hint hint). Those are good babies. I ordered the cowboy burrito and one pancake as my side (I wanted pancakes but realized the size of 3 or so pancakes would put me in a carbohydrate coma. So pancake it was). I liked the sausage gravy on top of the burrito but maybe should have had salsa instead. My husband had an omelet, fried apples which were very tasty, and side sausage patties. He said the sausage patties were kind of dried out but the omelet made up for everything. The one weird thing I wasn't expecting was the pitcher of unsweetened iced tea and water that you drink with a straw. Kind of kitschy and cute, but that was way too much liquid. Ha. Two glasses to split the pitchers between ourselves would have been nice. Because we were hitting the road, I passes on Mimosas or breakfast cocktails, but I bet the bar is outstanding in mixology. The place just feels right. Next visit to RVA we'll be back. Oh - I didn't get our server's name - but he was super sweet and lovely. Apparently this place is a local fave for college students and was surprised because I never been. The inside was very loud and packed with people, you could tell it was a popular spot. I liked how the pancakes were customizable, def sets this place apart from other spots. I got the oreo pancakes, steak burrito, and cheese fries. To my surprise, the oreo pancakes were amazing! The pancake flavor was different from regular diners (which i appreciated) and the oreo and powdered sugar gave it just the right amount of sweetness. Sadly steak burrito was a super let down. The steak wasn't even real steak but more like pieces of ground beef. The rice inside was mushy and tasted like it was from a school cafeteria. On a good note, the cheese fries were amazing. You can't mess up cheese fries however they were better than expected! They were nice and crispy even tho they had cheese on it. 10/10 Overall, I wasn't expecting much since this is sort of like a bar/late night spot. But the breakfast and apps will keep me coming back! read more

I was in Richmond for Christmas, and I found a nice little present waiting for me on Grace St. This corner pub style eatery was highly rated (so thanks fellow yelpers). The building itself was deceptively big, a very long building with both a large bar, two person nooks and step down dining areas with more booth/table combinations. The food was excellent, I got the corn beef hash and it was incredibly flavorful. I added grits on the side, which was a great idea the creamy grits with the hash mixed in was the perfect combination. The meal in total was about 12.00 and I was very full. Decent customer service, the gentlemen was getting slammed so I understood. It was a you gotta catch him and give him your credit card, otherwise you might wait another 15 min just to sign the check. Pro Tip: They sell single pancakes! I often have an issue getting just one pancake, most breakfast places want to do a stack or nothing. This pancake was very large, and a great way to save money while not over eating. read more

I split a French toast which was among the best I've had and got a breakfast bowl where for $2 extra I was able to sub in veggie sausage, which is a wonderful option. Richmond has a good food scene but breakfast is seemingly not so beloved an institution here, but there are at least a few places, this included that are looking to prove otherwise. read more

My husband checked out this spot on a recent visit to Richmond. We absolutely loved the old school diner vibe with the wooden booths. Our service was everything you'd expect from a diner -- prompt, friendly, and to the point. We got a kick out of the pitchers for iced drinks. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with grits and my husband got the breakfast tacos platter. Everything was solid and the portions were huge. It was a great value for the price.
