I've been looking for a new neighborhood breakfast spot and I was excited to try the Village Cafe. The vibes here are great, it's cozy, well decorated and warm. I always order a standard breakfast of eggs, toast, hash browns and sausage, and for $10.50 it's not a bad deal for a local joint. The toast and hash browns were delicious however the sausage was dry and eggs came out cold. It also took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive which was disappointing. I must've come on an off day, but would be willing to retry this place again in the distant future. +1 Vibe +0 Taste +0 Presentation +0 Service +1 Value

I had a wonderful brunch at The Village Café. We had friendly service and delicious food. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting VCU or Richmond. I love the ambiance and the decor inside! The country fried steak was delicious and so were the pancakes.

Great local diner. I stopped in for a bite to eat one afternoon before heading to work, and was amazed by the prices and portions. The kitchen staff is exceptional because everyone was getting their food very quickly and the drinks were awesome. Great place to stop in for a bite to eat, but they also have seating for larger group

Cheeseburger Sub Special 5/24/25

Always a good time here, and fast service. The cheeseburger sub special was VERY good just like a cheesesteak but cheeseburger style. Heaping portion of meat. Quesadilla the size of your torso with very fresh toppings. Best fries in the city.

Great service and relaxed ambiance. The food was not great... Not seasoned at all. White toast is wonder bread-like but all pieces are different sizes and sone were burned when others underdone. Hash browns are just small potatoes roasted with onions. Their coffee if good, though. It might be better as a bar and bar food place rather than breakfast.

I was so famished after taking the train into the city, but I stumbled upon this late-night spot that had pescatarian options. I wasn't in the mood for anything too heavy, so I went with my favorite buffalo chicken sub with fries. The best part ... all subs can be made into wraps! I was thrilled that they had honey mustard and buffalo sauce, which made my decision even easier. My beau ordered the Salmon Pesto Pasta because he saw the large portion. Unfortunately, his dish was a bit dry. I was REALLY upset that my order was wrong, as I had asked for a wrap instead of a sub roll. I HATE sending food back, and at that point, I was feeling pretty hangry and ready to go. The staff was very accommodating and offered to fix my order, but I was hesitant to send it back. I trusted them the first time to get it right, and now I had to take a gamble that I didn't offend the kitchen staff when it was sent back. I think that's something that restaurant staff tend to forget. I struggled to get through it just to take the edge off my hunger. While I wasn't completely satisfied with the bartenders, I asked if they could give my boyfriend a shot for their F-UP, and they did so without hesitation. Overall, I'm sure that other diners, students, and the like will have an amazing experience here. For me, it wasn't the best and a total waste of my time and money!

This place could not be more perfect. If you are searching for vibes look no further. Food- 10/10 Service-10/10 Ambiance- 200/10 Sausage was fire. Our server, Reilly, was giving really cool energy. I aspire to have that effect on people. In addition, the portion of water was immaculate. It came in a beer stein and is what you crave during a Sunday brunch. During my whole experience and after leaving I felt a consistent flow of dopamine that overall has led to a great day. Will be returning.

We stopped in here for late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately in a cozy wooden booth for two. Waiter quickly brought us waters. Menu and drink menu were available in a box built into the wall. The place had a lot of personality -- one of the reasons husband wanted to go there was its long history. It was noisy in there -- had a beautiful tin ceiling but noise echoed. I ordered the chicken burrito bowl and husband the Italian sausage sub. Mine was a super Americanized version of a burrito bowl. It had peppers and onions like would be on a Philly -- heavy on the onions. Very basic salsa. Husband loved his -- sausage, peppers and onions with a red sauce. Fries were good as well. I wish I had gone with my first instinct and ordered breakfast. Waiter was a little hard to find to get our check. Did not order alcohol but I was impressed that their drink menu listed all draft and canned beers with sizes and prices which many restaurants don't. I'd definitely return for an evening meal and beer.

Yes please!!

Always love it here! Cool vibe with lots of wood, galley style restaurant with cozy booths. The food never disappoints and the staff is amazing. The breakfasts are huge, and as mentioned before, the pitchers of drinks served are so smart and convenient. Last time we were there we actually purchased 2 of their pitchers and use them all the time at home! One of our favorite spots. Parking can be a pain sometimes, but worth it!

I love that they serve breakfast all day!! Seated on a Saturday, upstairs. Kinda tight space but doable. Coffee was ok. Basic creamer cups on the table. The pancake was delicious. I'm happy I chose the potatoes as a side; they were seasoned so good!! And the spinach + feta omelet 5/5!!

The interior was nice but the food was overpriced and kind of awful. For the price it was not worth it

The cauliflower wings were HUGE and the whole table enjoyed them. My partner got the vegan artichoke ("GWARtichoke") burger with tofu ricotta and that was awesome too. Our friend got the tofu banh mi and enjoyed it as well. And there are several more vegan options we didn't get to try this time. Will definitely be back. The atmosphere is.. GWAR! Very neat. And they have a parking lot which is so convenient. Did not love the plastic silverware in little disposable packs. (For dining in, real metal utensils are much appreciated pleeeease). Service wasn't super friendly but maybe it's part of the GWAR schtick (they weren't mean at all, just not the most hospitable). We didn't mind anyway. The food came out fast and they got all our orders right. You order at the bar so it's not like you have a server anyway.

We actually wondered if it was supposed to be a "Dicks Last Resort " kinda vibe. (The waiter was just this side of rude). The food was ok. The only thing we couldn't get down was the pretzel. It was so salty just looking at it made blood pressure rise. Even with all that though you should still go. It's a fun vibe. Sit and have a beer and take in all the nostalgia.

The best thing I've tried here recently were what my friends ordered which were the bulgogi loaded fries and the bulgogi quesadilla. They have a fun time with fusion here! I got the shiitake mushroom savory udon noodles on my last visit and wished they had a bit more flavor. The time before that I got the japchae that was way too oily for me. My fiancé likes this spot a lot, so we do go a couple times a year.

Now let's talk food, because the wings and nachos here are absolutely to die for. The daiquiris during happy hour are hands down the best in all of Richmond. Refreshing, perfectly balanced, and dangerously easy to drink. Will be back again soon as our usual wing spot!
