Oh Lulu's, I've been coming here forever! We recently used their back room for a family event and we were able to custom our own menu to share with our guests instead of offering the entire menu. They have a very large menu which can be overwhelming for some. Their broasted chicken is a must and one of their top selling items. I usually stick with that as their breakfast isn't my personal favorite thing in the entire world. I prefer their lunch and dinner options! The service is always good when I come here and they are friendly and helpful with giving suggestions on the menu. They have a large parking lot so parking is never an issue. read more

This is my go-to place to eat when I want a nice quiet dinner in a comfortable place that's local and economical. Hospitality always on point!! Food is really good and the atmosphere adds the the experience. My favorite comfort food from here is the turkey dinner. Nachos and the BBQ tri-tip sandwich! The staff are so welcoming and attentive. Nice family and neighborhood restaurant just off Roscoe and Balboa Blvd. They have nice booths and friendly staff. I believe it's a family owned restaurant. I really enjoy going to Lulu's. It's a really great place when you want something casual not too expensive big menu and American diner type food. They have really improved in my opinion over the past year. The service can be a hit or miss but don't let that stop you from going. I've been coming here for several years and it's one of my favorite spots for breakfast/lunch/dinner in the SFV. The servers are terrific, the food is quality, of generous portions and delicious. This place is a ghost town and most closely resembles a converted Denny's. Furthermore, the food is what I like to refer to as "assembled". This means that none of the food is homemade or fresh from there. It is either fried from frozen or reheated. I have posted a pic so you may see. You see those "perfect" grill marks on the burger? Or the perfect flat edge? This is because it is from frozen. Unimaginative and assembled. To be honest, it wasn't terrible, but its not what you would expect for a $15 burger. Furthermore, the owner was very rude. When I was sitting in the bar he proudly declared that "this is a Chicago Bears" bar after I asked if he could put on another team's game. There was ONLY FOUR people in the bar area and at least 5 TV's. Instead he shuttled me to a back room where no one was, only to be served by a bitter old lady who appeared to hate her job. First time coming here and I really liked it!! I've always passed by and seen Lulus but never tried it. Well I'm glad we did. Silvia was our server and she was wonderfulll. Very caring and made me feel like I was talking to a friend. In general, the entire staff is so warm and welcoming. I felt like I was in a hallmark movie, stumbling into the small family owned restaurant. The inside of the restaurant was very cute as well. Designed with a bunch of airplanes and aviation themed. I do wanna add that this was probably a popular hang out spot when it first opened because all I saw were boomers, but service and food was great, so I see why. read more

Let me just tell you all I've always tried to get help with food prep for holidays , and I finally after all these years found my "GO TOO" , the food was SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! The best ever, I almost gave it almost only 4 stars cuz they added corn instead of the traditional green bean casserole but after I called them up and they told me that's only because they ran out they added the corn I was a bit cranky, but everything else was so amazing. How could I give them less than five stars? They were seriously the most tasting I've ever had and that's including honeybaked ham. We will be for sure using them for Christmas. read more

An institution. A feeling of home. A diner in a part of town that makes you feel fearful it exists. Lulu's is an anomaly in the best sense of it. Although rumors abound that this place will be closing in '23, I made it a point to visit this place and enjoyed a rather cozy nice meal with some apple pie a la mode to cap it off. They have an all day breakfast menu,which is what my family loves. Chicken and waffle is one of my favorite. Biscuit and gravy is a must. And if you like carrot cake,theirs is really good! I'd like to say first, I would normally give this restaurant anywhere from 4* to 5* for being that service is usually lacking in getting certain request but overall the food has always been good and savory. The problem we encountered was Thanksgiving. Hardly had to wait to be seated. Party of three. Informed the waitress that the third-party was gonna be there in about 20 minutes and they did arrive exactly 20 minutes later. We ordered early just in case they would run out of turkey. The third person ordered as our salad came, they placed their order and ordered the same. We ordered the turkey meals with an added salad. We were informed by the waitress that there were no roles, but did not give a substitution. I asked if we can order bread instead as a substitute we never received the bread though other patrons receive theirs, we asked again did not bring it. Of the two turkey meals one was cold and one was warm. I insisted cold one being returned. They were both covered with gravy, which is not how I normally get it, but it came that way and I guess maybe for a reason the dressing was not homemade. It was like Miss Cubbison's dressing. The mashed potatoes were not homemade like they normally have garlic mashed potatoes. These were like boxed mashed potatoes. The third dish was ordered with ham and again gravy was all over everything. They didn't bother asking if that's how we wanted it. Two of us had Arnold Palmer's, which is tea and lemonade. Asking if we wanted refills we said yes, they brought Sprite and lemonade. Yikes! Than the refills of what is a regular Arnold Palmer. The apple pies, which we all selected we're all different sizes, but the thing that they had in common that they were all undercooked and different size of dollop of whipped cream, location on one side, one on top, one had more than the other. Again, weren't uniformed. Way undercooked it wasn't even brown on the top. Now, the bill? They charged us for an extra turkey dinner because I guess, one was taken back because it was cold. They did take the fourth meal off. I will say this I will never go back for a holiday meal there. Otherwise I will go back to try it again and see if things have changed. I don't know if new management or new ownership has been changed or anything like that. But always worth and willing to give it another try. The person of the party of three is San Fernando Valley born and knows of Lulu's. He moved away, came back and was highly disappointed that I don't know if they would want to ever go back? Me, I'm willing to try it again one more time. This was a waste of $85.00+ of time and money. If the restaurant was not prepared or ready for a holiday on slot, maybe they should have not opened up and just left it for next year. read more

So as you can see, I rant and rave about this place, but not tonight. The appetizer sampler platter was disgusting.!!!!!! I mean truly horrible. If you can't tell how disgusting and soggy and frozen and slimey and undercooked the zucchini and mozzarella cheese sticks were.... thank GOD for you, because it was that bad! The wings were so spicy, and overcooked my son cried. The chicken tenders were shriveled up and the batter on everything seemed raw. Last but not least.... The turkey dinner.... Looks like it belongs at the shady pines nursing home with the Golden Girls. It definitely tastes like how a nursing home smells. The only thing they did right was add extra extra condiments, per requested. I'm so upset and expected more. The service was great. Kind, attentive... no complaints there. But the food?? I am sorry to say that it was the most disgusting meal I've had in a long, long time. I took it home and fed it to my dog. I am super disappointed because I checked the reviews before deciding to come and I was overwhelmingly let down. I ordered corn beef hash, 3 eggs, breakfast potatoes, with biscuits and gravy... and a coffee. The coffee was the only thing I could swallow without wanting to gag. in my opinion, it's pretty hard to ruin corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy.. and impossible to ruin eggs and potatoes. My family has been going to Lulu's for over 40 years and they have yet to disappoint. The food we had delivered last night was no exception. The food was hot and fresh and delivered within a half hour of placing the order. Portions were large and and the same size as they have always been. Mom couldn't make a dent in the Lulu's sampler she ordered. Layer upon layer of Fried zucchini, onion rings, chicken tenders, buffalo wings, potato skins, and mozzarella sticks. All were cooked perfectly and tasted just as good for lunch today as they did last night. I had the chili-cheeseburger. It had a half pound beef patty smothered in delicious meaty chili garnished with a few onion rings and cheese toast. The side of fries was crispy and was a large portion as well. read more

Good food - good value. I've been coming here since the early 80s, Mike and the ladies provide a comfortable atmosphere.

Went here last Sunday after a long walk at Balboa Park. We did not have to reserve and was seated as soon as we arrived. They have an outdoor seating and I remember bringing my pet dog here one time. Service was great and the food was really good! I highly recommend trying out the Corned Beef Hash and Egg because it's one of the tastiest meals we had during our visit. The serving is huge and make sure to ask for a box to go if you cannot finish it in one sitting. They're not lying when they called their Big Chocolate Cake big because the size of that slice was enough to fill me up until dinner. Highly recommend and will definitely come back. read more

Most racist restaurant ever. I went to grab a bite with my husband since he wanted to try out a new restaurant and overall new place to eat. Since the moment I walked in and I got seated none of the waitresses acknowledged me but they acknowledged people who were non people of color even seating them and taking their orders but not coming to talk to us at all. Me and my husband waited for about 15 minutes and while waiting during those 15 minutes we saw a bunch of people getting their orders taken who had came in way after us. Overall my experience was not a great experience and i would not recommend it to anyone. read more

It seems that Lulu's going down hill a little. The service is still friendly, even perky. But the food seems to be off. Abbe had breakfast: eggs and waffle and bacon, and she proclaimed it meh. I had my usual broasted chicken, and this time it was devoid of the juiciness I'd come to expect. Instead of fries, I ordered a double portion of roasted veggies, and they were atrociously undercooked. We'll have to think twice about returning to what used to be one of our favorite Valley joints. Order missing: Bacon, Onions, English Muffin, and hardly any avocado-two, tiny pieces. Instead, soggy, over buttered (couldn't tell what it was, odd yellow color) toast, tasteless egg and potatoes. I have been coming her for years no problem. Decent food convenient location. Today I was served the gluten free pancake combo. The pancakes were spoiled and sour. The combo came with fruit 2 eggs and sausage. I told the waitress my pancakes were rotten. I assumed it would be taken off the bill. Not the case I was charged for two eggs because I broke the yoke on one and a side of fruit. The fruit I ate to get the rotten taste out of my mouth. I am shocked I was charged. I asked if the waitress if the manager knew my pancakes were rotten, she said yes. I argued I didn't eat the eggs but it's not worth the aggravation. We paid the bill and left. $3.50 for 2 eggs $3.99 for fruit. Waitress Morena C argued I ate the eggs. Terrible customer service in my opinion. read more

I got an email with a birthday reward: buy one entree, get one free. Great! I clicked through to the Website. Then clicked to claim the reward. It gave me a code. I called to place an order and mentioned the email and code. He said to bring the code when I picked up the food and paid. Went there, showed the code on my phone and was told it didn't have my name or birthdate and that I needed that and had to show ID. I explained that I got the email and clicked through the links. But apparently this code was no good without my name. How is this my problem??? I pulled up the email and showed it. The email had my name. I offered to show my ID. He said it was okay and added the discount. Then he wished me Happy Birthday 4 times. But that's meaningless when you treated me like I was trying to scam you. You sent me the email. I clicked through the links, so how did I do anything wrong? Also I ordered broasted chicken to go and the website says it comes with biscuits. I mentioned that when I ordered. They called me back and said it comes with bread, not biscuits. Not according to your website! They decided to give me the biscuits instead of bread. Maybe familiarize yourself with the customer experience side of things and learn the system from that side so that you can treat your customers better. If it comes with bread, update your website. If the birthday offer is supposed to include name and birth date, fix your system. The broasted potatoes were scorched, but the chicken and biscuits were delicious. read more
