Jambalaya & Spaghetti
Gary I.

Upon closer inspection, Lulu reminds me of a Hobbit like structure with undulating roof line, round, red brick lined window, and organic, earth tone interior. It only needs a round door entrance. I would imagine Bilbo Baggins would dine here. Many different environments so you can sit on tall stools at the small bar, main dining with standard tables, banquet hall, outdoor patio. Theme is airplanes since Lulu sits near the edge of Van Nuys airport. The menu is mostly American diner fare. But what caught my eye was the Jambalaya on the menu. Thanks to Yelpers who took detailed photos to see if this Jambalaya were composed competently. We're not in Southern Louisiana in places like Lafayette, Duson. Rayne, Saint Martinville, but considering we were in Van Nuys, California, Jambalaya here is definitely a must get. The roux is not smokey, nor redolent with butter, but seems more of a vegetable oil and flour mix. The thickened, dark sauce, which may be fortified by soy sauce, has a good fond de cuisine Umami. The Cajun-Créole Mirepoix or the Aromatic Holy Trinity of onion, bellpepper, celery is well represented. Two, whole shrimp shell on, chicken breast strips which were meaty & moist. Traditionally there would be Andouille sausage, but what seems like dense, savory Italian sausage bits were there to add a bit more chaw with flavours of porkiness, fennel and black pepper. Standard is rice, which I have plenty at home. So the taciturn waitress suggesting linguine pasta, that was not quite al dente, was a good suggestion. Service is adequate. You don't get the feeling of a friendly small town diner. If you're a single diner, this isn't the place for even a bit of short, small talk. Basically, you're just a number. Only for the Jambalaya, Lulu gets a B- for effort. May be the best thing on the menu that has some culinary imagination instead of standard diner schlock. 4- stars

I've driven past this place for the past 6 years or so, and never bothered to check it out. So me and my family decided to try it this Friday for something new and comforting. And to say this place was comforting would be an understatement! Everything from the decor, to the servers and the food felt like we were all back in the 80s & 90s. Huge portion sizes, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere for a place that's been around since the 60s. For a first timer, I can definitely say I'll be back, either on my own, or with other family! This is a perfect place to build community and enjoy some great food

We came for Father's Day brunch and luckily there was no wait! The service and servers were pleasant and accommodating. There was a few hiccups with some sides missing but they fixed that right away. Restaurant is a little outdated but I guess that's the vibe with all the old school pictures and planes. The entrance is also not very welcoming. The food was good, standard no complaints really but nothing outstanding. Just a pretty good diner feed! I enjoyed the raisin French toast it was pretty good nothing crazy. Overall I'd come here again for a diner feed if I'm looking for something better than fast food!

Everything is good. I enjoyed everything. I also ordered a southwest chicken salad. The service was very good and I really enjoyed my meal.

Chicken tenders

I understand the authenticity of Lulu's as a locals diner and I've been here a handful a times but my recent visit... man. We were part of a group of about 16 people. Since it was earlier in the morning I wasn't too hungry so I thought ordering some chicken tenders would be a good idea. I have also been craving some nachos and shared that with my sister. The orders were all taken, everything was correct and the food was brought out in a timely manner. Things were great until the chicken tenders and the nachos arrived. The nachos were really sad looking. To me it seemed like someone just plopped some items over chips and called it a day. There wasn't enough cheese to even call it nachos, plus what little cheese that was there wasn't even melted correctly. Then we have the chicken tenders. I was confused if it was chicken tenders because it looked more like fish and chips. The batter was very bready and some parts were undercooked. Decided to tear through and just eat the chicken parts but that wasn't good either. I couldn't even tell you what kind of dipping sauce they provided was. Overall the service was great and I am glad that Lulu's is still around serving the locals. Maybe my choice of items was just the wrong moves while the other people in the party seem to have better dishes. Parking: med private lot VERDICT: One and done

Egg boogers and too much over easy egg yolk, because it's not over medium

Probably the worst restaurant in LA. Service is horrible and the food is even worse. Do not come here.

I have a small pug. It says that Pets are welcome, but does that mean for outdoor dining only?

Dogs are allowed on the patio only due to health codes.

I saw that desserts can now be ordered online. Can pies be ordererd as well?

Are u open on the 28th and how late. Aside from serving turkey, do u serve other food on that day. Sorry, I'm not into turkey, thanks?

We are open daily from 7:30 am to 10:00pm Sunday Thru Thursday and Friday and Saturday until 11:pm

We like to just enjoy the patio seating outside and Just watch the golfers on the putting green. Something mellow and quite relaxing. Positive note, they're pet friendly. If you come on Sunday, i guarantee theres always going to be some kind of sports on. The service has alway been great. All the staff are amazing and friendly. It's says a lot when you walk in and they know exactly what you want. Either I'm here too much or they know their regulars. It's a great way to unwind and just chill after a day of work or whatever. The golfers are all friendly as well. They're all here for the same reason. They use to have trivia night but I'm not sure if that still exists. Regardless, it's alway a great place. I hope they don't mind that I brought a fruit salad from one of the vendors to enjoy with my beer... LOL...

Had to make a reservation for 4 people for the Rams-Bears game, and we were sat right in the middle tables near the back, almost touching (and frequently bumped by other patrons) nearby, instead of the more spacious lounge-type 4 seaters that I wanted. The area is deafeningly noisy, stuffy, No A/C. As if a sports bar isn't loud enough, they have a DJ for what reason I don't know blasting music at every opportunity during timeouts and between games...yikes. Super packed inside, but outside seating is very bare and only 1 crappy TV in the corner. Absolute pandemonium inside, dogs, kids everywhere. Love both but just a bizarre scene. Food was passable, nothing more. The asada nachos we were told had beans but didnt come with it, and had a weird liquid white cheese melted and not enough of it to smother the chips. Very expensive too almost 30 bucks! Barely any pico, no guac. Wings are so-so meaty and hot but boring not seasoned. The garlic parm fries are not bad but a pool of oil on the bottom of the basket. The burger seemed to be the best item, I ate a chicken sandwich (fried) it was plain and boring as hell, but not bad. We couldn't make it past halftime it was just so insanely loud and uncomfortable from rubbing seats behind me, can't move vertically. Parking lot completely sold out sharing with the golf course, had to park a few hundred feet away in another small lot, and the icing on the cake as we left some weirdo woman approached the window startling us and asking for money handing out something. Bolted the fuck out, counted our blessings and...see you next lifetime. Did not feel safe walking back to the far-out lot, and another homeless person actually entered the bar and was walking around, barely holding it together to not show his genitals. There was a security guard near entrance, I guess the homeless man parachuted in cuz he got past him. Good grief.

Plus we were meeting early which also happy hour was still happening. I think it's from 3-6. Even at 5 in the afternoon, there was no parking in the lot. And the residential parking was pretty much packed. As I had my little pup with me, we needed a table outside. It's been a while since I was seated outside. Usually it's been in the bar area. They have a back gate at the patio but it was locked. First off, the place was packed. It's been a while since it's been like that. Or maybe I've only been coming during happy hour. Also, it's somewhat seems to be a thing where you have to ask for the happy hour menus. Anyways, their items are pretty decent for prices. Drinks specials and some of the food items are worth it. We alway get a pitcher of beer for the table to share. Food wise, a couple of the ceviche. Either fish or shrimp and that's served with a tostada chip. For 12.00, it's pretty decent in size and quite tasty. Between the fish or shrimp, I prefer shrimp better. Also, two street tacos for 5.00 with many choices of protein. Lastly, the loaded fried nachos for 12.00. Let's say when they mean loaded, it was loaded. That too comes with your choice of protein which I went with the al pastor. The food was great. Reasonable price and well portioned. Plus the chips and bean dip to start off. They also accommodate some salsas with chips which is nice. Before it would alway be the bean dips and you would have to ask for the salsa. If you want fresh guacamole, they have someone that will prepare it table side to your liking. This visit, there was also the mariachi band walking around asking people if that wanted any requests. The service was great, the staffs all are amazing and friendly. Some familiar faces which is nice.

She also had an ugly attitude. Price - 2/10 Honestly for pub food, it's way too overpriced. You're paying West Hollywood prices in the valley, probably more. I hate that each sandwich/burger is $15+ à la carte. Ridiculous! Cocktails - 2/10 Ordered an old fashioned multiple times & each time it was too heavy on the bitters. Gross!
